Diablo 4 Season 15 Day 1 Checklist: What to Do First on Launch Day (Patch 3.2.0)

Diablo 4 Season 15 is expected to launch around September 15, 2026 — right after BlizzCon 2026 (September 12–13) — and it brings the most substantial overhaul to Diablo IV's endgame loot loop since the game launched. The Horadric Cube gets a direct specific-Mythic upgrade path ("the random factors are gone," per Blizzard), Soul Splinters turn your jewelry into high-risk/high-reward socketables, Challenge Dungeons offer free difficulty jumps from random Overland portals, and Rebirth lets you bring your favorite character's identity into the new season without starting completely fresh.

If you want to be farming Greater Lair Bosses on Day 1 while most players are still clearing the capstone dungeon, the checklist below covers exactly what to do — and in what order.

Quick answer (TLDR): On Diablo 4 Season 15 Day 1: Rebirth or create your character, skip the campaign, push to level 70, complete the capstone dungeon to unlock Torment, socket Soul Splinters into your jewelry the moment you find a ring or amulet, take every Challenge Dungeon portal for a free difficulty push, chain Initiate Lair Boss runs into Greater Lair Boss runs for Resplendent Sparks, and direct-craft a specific Mythic via the Horadric Cube once you have enough materials. Pre-launch priority: complete S14 Season Journey for Smoldering Ashes, master your gold-farming methods, and decide which Eternal character to Rebirth.

When Does Diablo 4 Season 15 Launch?

Based on the in-game Season 14 Reliquary timer math and multiple community trackers (Blizzard Watch, Incendar), Season 15 is expected to launch around September 15, 2026, the day after BlizzCon 2026 closes. Blizzard has not announced an official launch date as of August 2026. The Season 15 3.2.0 PTR ran August 4–11, and Blizzard confirmed some Season 15 content was held back specifically for a BlizzCon reveal. Expect further announcements September 12–13, 2026, with a live launch immediately after.

All mechanics in this guide are based on the 3.2.0 PTR (August 4–11, 2026) and are subject to change before the live launch. This guide will be updated on Day 1 with confirmed numbers.

Three Things to Do Right Now (Season 14 Pre-Launch Prep)

The month of Season 14 time remaining matters. Decisions made now directly affect how fast you ramp on Day 1 of Season 15.

Complete Your Season 14 Season Journey

The Season 14 Season Journey awards Smoldering Ashes across its 9 Ranks — Smoldering Ashes buy Season Blessings that grant XP, gold, and materials multipliers. These multipliers activate the moment Season 15 launches; players who've pre-purchased Blessings level noticeably faster in the first 48 hours. Finish as many Journey Ranks as you can before the season rolls over, especially Ranks 1–6 where the Ashes rewards are most concentrated.

Master the Most Efficient Gold-Farming Methods Now

Season 15's Horadric Cube direct-Mythic crafting system and Soul Splinter upgrading both consume significant gold alongside their material costs. Learn and run the fastest gold-farming routes in Season 14 now — you'll apply the identical methods immediately in Season 15 and start gold-capping faster than players who learn them cold. Your Season 14 seasonal gold won't transfer directly (all Season 15 characters start at zero), but the Season 15 gold farming guide covers the fastest routes, including the Splinter of Lies method (which grants +100% gold drops but keeps you permanently Weakened and Vulnerable — manageable once you have the right gear). Get efficient now so you hit the ground running.

Choose Your Rebirth Character

Rebirth is a confirmed Season 15 feature from the 3.2.0 PTR. It converts an Eternal-realm character into a seasonal character, preserving their name, appearance, and cosmetic loadout — but resetting them to level 1 with no gear. To use Rebirth, you must move or destroy all items the character is carrying before confirming; the game won't let you proceed with gear in the inventory. Identify which Eternal character you want to bring into Season 15 now, stash any gear you want to keep, and be ready to hit Rebirth immediately on Day 1 rather than spending 10 minutes sorting inventory.

Day 1 Priority Checklist

Step 1 — Rebirth or Create Your Character

Log in at launch and either Rebirth an Eternal character (for the cosmetic identity carry) or create a new seasonal character. Rebirth is the same power start either way — level 1, no gear. If you're undecided, the new Paladin and Warlock classes from Lord of Hatred expansion can be refreshed seasonal without Rebirth; both are solid S15 options for players who want a fresh experience.

Step 2 — Campaign Skip, Then Push to Level 70

If you've completed the Diablo IV main campaign on your Battle.net account, skip it on your seasonal character. Use War Plans (the Lord of Hatred endgame activities) and high-density leveling zones to push to level 70 — the point where the Paragon system activates. Don't sit in normal difficulty; enemies and rewards scale in a way that slows leveling. Push to Torment as fast as your gear allows. Our Season 15 leveling guide covers the PTR-tested fastest routes to 70.

Step 3 — Unlock Torment Difficulty

Complete the endgame capstone dungeon to unlock Torment difficulty. This is the single hardest gate on Day 1 — players who get to Torment first have access to Greater Lair Boss runs, Mythic drops, and Resplendent Sparks while others are still gearing through the capstone. Once in Torment, use the glyph leveling route via the Pit to push Paragon Glyph ranks, which dramatically increase your damage output and survivability.

Step 4 — Socket Soul Splinters Immediately

Soul Splinters are Season 15's flagship item type — unique socketables for jewelry (one per jewelry slot — each ring and your amulet). They drop from Challenge Dungeons and Overland Ambush encounters and are upgradeable via the Horadric Cube. Each of the 8 varieties comes in 5 rarities (Common, Magic, Rare, Legendary, Unique); higher rarities dramatically increase the potency of both the bonus and the drawback.

The moment you find a ring or amulet worth keeping, socket a Soul Splinter. Don't wait for "the right one" — any Splinter active is better than none:

Soul SplinterResistancePowerDrawback
AnguishFire+35% Crit Chance & Attack Speed+30% resource cost
SinLightning+40%[x] Max Health−30% Max Resource
LiesCold+100% gold/mat drops + 25% XPAlways Weakened + Vulnerable
Black SoulstoneAll Stats+50 All Stats; souls stack +5%[x] dmg+0.5% damage taken per soul stack
PainPoison+40% Damage Reduction−30% Move Speed
the MotherPhysicalUnhindered + Vulnerable-on-touchStun after touching 250 enemies
HellfireAll Elements+100%[x] damage0% Crit Chance
DamnationShadowElite-kill raises Monster Power (up to 25s)Difficulty escalation risk

Day 1 recommendation: Socket Splinter of Lies for farming efficiency (doubles gold and crafting material drops, fueling Horadric Cube crafting sooner). Swap to Splinter of Anguish or Splinter of Hellfire for boss kill speed once you need Resplendent Sparks.

Step 5 — Use Every Challenge Dungeon Portal You See

While exploring the Overland in Sanctuary, random portals spawn that transport you to a Challenge Dungeon. Inside, you face a scaled boss and can choose to fight at a difficulty up to 3 Torment tiers above your current global tier. That means better loot — including higher-tier Unique drops and potentially Lair Keys — without the risk of dying in the open world and losing progress.

On Day 1, every Challenge Dungeon portal is a free power-up. The portals are unpredictable in timing, but the boost when you find one is significant. Never skip a portal in the first 72 hours of the season.

Step 6 — Chain Lair Boss Keys Into Greater Lair Boss Runs

The material chain for Greater Lair Bosses:

  • Lair Keys — drop from War Plans, Helltide Tortured Gifts, World Bosses, and Tree of Whispers caches
  • Run Initiate Lair Bosses (Grigoire, Varshan, Lord Zir, The Beast in the Ice, Urivar) using Lair Keys → each kill drops a Greater Lair Key
  • Run Greater Lair Bosses (Duriel, Andariel, Harbinger of Hatred, Belial) using Greater Lair Keys → Mythic Unique drops and Resplendent Sparks

Note: Belial is the Exalted Lair Boss requiring 2× Betrayer's Husk (obtainable from Belial's Ambush encounters) instead of a Greater Lair Key — and has the highest Mythic Unique drop rate in the game, plus the unique mechanic of letting you choose your loot table from Duriel, Andariel, or Harbinger after clearing him. Save Betrayer's Husks as you find them.

Step 7 — Direct-Craft a Specific Mythic With the Horadric Cube

This is the Season 15 endgame milestone that replaces the old RNG-heavy Mythic hunt. As Blizzard stated in the official 3.2.0 PTR patch notes: "We've heard your feedback, and we're making further improvements to mythic uniques and iconic mythics," with the goal to "make the system simpler, offer more crafting choices, and give you far more control over that one major piece you'll need to carry your build into the highest levels."

Three Mythic crafting routes in Season 15:

MethodInputOutputCrafted Tag?
Horadric Cube direct upgradeSpecific Unique + materialsExact Mythic version of that Unique (keeps affixes)Yes (1 limit in PTR — confirm on launch)
Horadric Cube random2× Resplendent SparkRandom Mythic UniqueNo
Jeweler Rune Crafting2× Resplendent Spark + RunesRandom Mythic for chosen slot (class-specific)No

The direct-upgrade path is the one to prioritize. Identify your target Mythic based on your class and build, then focus Lair Boss farming on target-Unique drops. Once you have the specific Unique and enough crafting materials, convert it directly.

The 12 Iconic Mythic Uniques available at launch: Harlequin Crest, Andariel's Visage, Tyrael's Might, Shattered Vow, Heir of Perdition, The Grandfather, Doombringer, Ahavarion Spear of Lycander, Nesēkēm the Herald, Ring of Starless Skies, Shroud of False Death, Melted Heart of Selig.

Step 8 — Watch for Legacy Uniques and the New Charm Pool

Season 15 adds 9 Legacy Uniques pulled from Diablo I, Diablo II, and Diablo III: Leoric's Crown, Stone of Jordan, Arioc's Needle, In-Geom, The Furnace, Squirt's Blouse, Nemesis Bracers, Henri's Perquisition, and Messerschmidt's Reaver (4 universal/all-class, 5 class-specific). These were not testable in the PTR and will drop from the standard loot pool on Day 1. See our Legacy Uniques guide for stats and class restrictions.

Season 15 also introduces 16 new unique Charms based on previously un-charmed uniques. Charms can now roll at Mythic rarity — granting max-roll stats with a significantly buffed unique modifier. There is no crafting method for Mythic unique Charms; they must drop naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need the Vessel of Hatred or Lord of Hatred expansions to play Season 15? No — the base Soul Splinter system, Rebirth feature, Horadric Cube overhaul, Challenge Dungeons, and Legacy Uniques are all part of the 3.2.0 patch available to all players. Vessel of Hatred is required to access the Harbinger of Hatred Lair Boss (Nahantu region); Lord of Hatred is required to play the Paladin and Warlock classes. The core Season 15 loop is fully accessible without DLC.

Does Rebirth permanently delete my Eternal character? No. Rebirth converts your Eternal character into a seasonal character for Season 15. When Season 15 ends, seasonal characters return to the Eternal realm as always — you won't permanently lose the character. You do lose any gear left on the character at Rebirth time unless you moved it to stash or another character beforehand.

What is the best Soul Splinter to use on Day 1? For farming efficiency, Splinter of Lies (Cold) is the top Day 1 pick — it doubles gold and crafting material drops, which directly accelerates Horadric Cube crafting. The permanent Weakened + Vulnerable drawback is manageable with damage reduction. For boss-kill speed, Splinter of Anguish (Fire) offers +35% Crit Chance and Attack Speed at the cost of +30% higher resource use. See our Soul Splinters guide for a full class-by-class breakdown.

Will Season 14 characters and gold carry over to Season 15? Season 14 seasonal characters roll to the Eternal realm when Season 15 launches, and all seasonal-specific progression (Season Journey, Seasonal Reputation) resets. Season 14 seasonal characters' gold and items transfer to the Eternal realm on rollover — you can access them on your Eternal characters. Season 15 characters start at level 1 with zero gold.

How many Resplendent Sparks do I need for Mythic crafting? Based on Season 14 patterns (2 Sparks for a random Mythic via Blacksmith cache; 2 Sparks + Runes for Jeweler class-specific Mythic), expect the same floor in Season 15. The direct Horadric Cube upgrade path requires additional materials beyond Sparks — exact costs will be confirmed at live launch. Farm Resplendent Sparks from Greater Lair Boss kills throughout Day 1.

What is the BlizzCon reveal and how does it affect Day 1? Blizzard confirmed they're holding some Season 15 content back for reveal at BlizzCon 2026 (September 12–13). This means Day 1 will likely include content not testable in the PTR. Check the official patch notes on launch day before committing to a specific build or farming route — new content could change the optimal Splinter or Mythic crafting priority.
