Two weeks into EA SPORTS FC 27, the most-repeated question in Ultimate Team isn't about meta players or Evolutions — it's about money. Clips circulate showing 3,000, 4,000, even 6,000 coins after a single game; then you finish your own match and the screen reads 500. Nothing is broken: EA FC 27 pays Match Coins through a four-part formula, and only one part is affected by the multiplier everybody blames.
Published: 5 October 2026. Current phase: FC 27 Season 1, which runs 17 September – 22 October 2026, two weeks after the 25 September global release.
Quick answer: FC 27 Match Coins are calculated as `(Skill Rewards × DNF Multiplier) + Completion Award + Competition Reward + Coin Boost`. The DNF Multiplier only scales the Skill Rewards portion, which caps at roughly +550 — so even a multiplier of 0.25 costs you a few hundred coins, not thousands. The reason other players post 4,000+ is the mode-dependent Competition Reward: EA says Champions and Rivals have "the potential to reward several times more Coins" than the FC 26 baseline of roughly 500–600 per match, while Squad Battles only "will also see an increase".
Short version of the rest of this article:
- Skill Rewards are the only component the DNF Multiplier touches, and they max out at about +550 before deductions.
- The multiplier starts at 1.00, drops 0.25 every time you end a match early, and recovers +0.02 per completed match — so one quit needs 13 clean games to undo.
- The realistic worst case from a wrecked multiplier is roughly a 264-coin loss per match, not a 3,000-coin one.
- The Completion Award is the quiet earner: measured at 549–595 coins in completed Squad Battles matches, and it disappears entirely if you quit.
- Mode choice is the real lever. EA gave Champions and Rivals "the potential to reward several times more Coins" than the FC 26 baseline; Squad Battles got the smaller bump.

What exactly are Match Coins in FC 27?
Match Coins are credited to your club the moment a Football Ultimate Team match ends, shown on the results screen as "Match Coins Awarded" next to "SP Awarded" for Season Points. They are separate from weekly Rivals rewards, Champions rank rewards, objectives, Bounties and Transfer Market sales.
The confusion is presentation, not mechanics. Ultimate Team has paid coins after every match for years; FC 27 raised the numbers and put them on a louder results screen next to Season Points, which made it look new. Our FC 27 end-of-match rewards breakdown covers how that fits next to weekly rewards — this article is the arithmetic underneath the number.
EA set the baseline itself in the FC 27 Launch Update Pitch Notes:
"Compared to the roughly 500 to 600 FUT Coins typically earned from a match in EA SPORTS FC™ 26, Champions and Rivals will have the potential to reward several times more Coins, while Squad Battles will also see an increase." — EA SPORTS, FC 27 Launch Update Pitch Notes
Read that carefully, because it explains most of the complaints. 500–600 coins per match was last year's normal. If that is what you are seeing in FC 27, you are earning the FC 26 rate — which almost always means you are playing the mode that got the smallest increase.
How is a Match Coins payout calculated?
The payout is built from four components, and they do not behave the same way:
`Match Coins = (Skill Rewards × DNF Multiplier) + Completion Award + Competition Reward + Coin Boost`
The formula is community documentation, mapped across FIFA and FC releases by fifauteam — EA has never published it. What matters is the structure: the multiplier sits in brackets around one term. Everything after the bracket is paid at face value.
Which actions actually pay? The FC 27 Skill Rewards table
Skill Rewards are earned in-game for what you do on the pitch, with per-category caps. These are the values documented for FC 27:
| Action | Value | Cap |
|---|---|---|
| Goal scored | +40 | 5 goals (+200) |
| Clean sheet | +75 | 1 (+75) |
| Shots on target | +5 | 10 (+50) |
| Corners won | +5 | 10 (+50) |
| Successful tackles | +1 | 20 (+20) |
| Pass accuracy % | +1 per % | 80 (+80) |
| Possession % | +1 per % | 60 (+60) |
| Man of the Match | +15 | 1 (+15) |
| Goals conceded | −20 | 4 (−80) |
| Fouls committed | −5 | 4 (−20) |
| Cards | −10 | 8 (−80) |
| Offsides | −1 | 15 (−15) |
Add the positives and the ceiling is +550 Skill Reward points in a single match — and that requires five goals, a clean sheet, Man of the Match, 80% pass accuracy, 60% possession, ten shots on target, ten corners and twenty tackles. In the same match the deductions can only take −195 off. A normal 3-1 win with decent passing lands somewhere around 250–350.
That single number — a ceiling of 550 — is why the DNF Multiplier cannot be responsible for the gap you are seeing.
What is the DNF Multiplier and why is mine below 1.00?
DNF stands for Did Not Finish. It is a per-account coefficient that scales your Skill Rewards, and it exists to make rage-quitting expensive rather than free.
How it moves:
- It starts at 1.00 for a new club.
- Every match you end prematurely subtracts 0.25.
- Every match you complete without interruption adds 0.02, up to that mode's maximum.
- Documented values in circulation include 0.25, 0.36, 0.42, 0.50, 0.60, 0.63, 0.88, 0.93, 1.00 and 1.13.
Two details catch people out. First, it is an online mechanic, and Squad Battles difficulty also changes the value that applies — so one club can see different multipliers in different modes. Second, disconnects count as quits: closing the game or losing your connection mid-match is recorded like a deliberate exit, which is why connection problems and "my coins dropped" reports arrive together. Our FC 27 lost connection and EA server error guide covers the actual causes.
One myth worth killing: if your opponent quits, your multiplier is unaffected. That match's own rewards get pro-rated because it ended early, but nothing attaches to your account.
How much can the DNF Multiplier really cost you?
Here is the maths nobody on the subreddits is doing. Take a realistic 300-point Skill Reward game and run it through the documented range:
| DNF Multiplier | Skill Rewards paid | Lost vs 1.13 |
|---|---|---|
| 1.13 | 339 | — |
| 1.00 | 300 | 39 |
| 0.88 | 264 | 75 |
| 0.63 | 189 | 150 |
| 0.50 | 150 | 189 |
| 0.25 | 75 | 264 |
The entire swing between a perfect multiplier and the worst documented one is about 264 coins. Even at the absolute Skill Rewards ceiling of 550 the gap only widens to roughly 484. A ruined multiplier is a real cost — but it is a rounding error against the 3,500-coin difference between a 500-coin game and a 4,000-coin game.
So if your multiplier is the only thing you have been trying to fix, you have been optimising the smallest term in the formula.
So why do some players earn 4,000+ a match?
Because of the two components that sit outside the bracket.
The Competition Reward is mode-dependent, and this is where EA's increase landed unevenly. Only Champions and Rivals carry the "several times more Coins" wording; Squad Battles was given an unspecified "increase". EA has never published a per-mode figure, so the honest reading is directional, not exact: two players can play equally well, post identical Skill Rewards, and end up far apart per match purely because of the mode they chose.
The Completion Award is the one almost nobody accounts for. In FC 27 testing across three completed Squad Battles matches that all finished 2-1, the Completion Award paid 549 coins in the first match and 595 in the next two. That variation matters for two reasons: it is a large, fairly flat payment that has nothing to do with how well you played, and the older community formula of `325 × minutes played ÷ 90` no longer reproduces it, so it should not be used as an FC 27 calculation.
Crucially, this is the part you forfeit by quitting. Leave on 80 minutes and you are not only shaving your multiplier for future games — you are dropping ~550 coins in that one.
Finally, Coin Boost. Boosts from the EAFC Hub or Season Pass add a flat amount on top, which is why a clip can show a number nobody else can reproduce. The old claim that boosts add 500–1,000 coins per match has not been confirmed for FC 27, so treat any coins-per-hour figure sourced from a boosted clip as inflated. For a sober mode-by-mode comparison, see our FC 27 coins per hour breakdown.
What does one quit actually cost you?
Repair arithmetic: a quit costs 0.25 and a completed match returns 0.02. That is `0.25 ÷ 0.02 = 12.5`, so 13 completed matches to get back to where you were. The ratio holds whatever mode coefficient applies, because both the penalty and the recovery scale together.
Thirteen games to undo one tap of the dashboard button — that is the real price, not the coins lost in the match you quit. And if you are quitting Rush because "it doesn't count", check that assumption: players have reported the multiplier moving after a single quit in a mode they assumed was exempt.

Does your Division or rank increase Match Coins?
Not right now. Your Division affects your weekly Rivals rewards — which pay out Thursdays at 06:59 UTC, as covered in our FC 27 Rivals rewards by division guide — but it does not scale the per-match number.
We know this from how EA phrased its own plans:
"Based on your feedback after launch, we'll also look for opportunities to expand post-match rewards further, including increased rewards for players in higher Divisions and additional reward types such as Tokens." — EA SPORTS, FC 27 Launch Update Pitch Notes
A future opportunity is not a live feature. EA repeated the point in the FUT Developer Launch Update on 1 October: "What you're seeing today is the starting point, and we have more ways to reward playing matches planned for later in the year." Expect this answer to change — in Season 2, which starts 22 October 2026, or later.
That dev update is also the source of the stat doing the rounds: "Coin balances are more than 50% higher than at the same point last year." Note what it measures — total balances across the player base, not your per-match rate. Market consequences: FC 27 coins are 50% higher.
Why do Champions rewards look like coins only?
A related weekend complaint: Champions Finals paid coins and tokens, no packs. That is intended for Season 1 — every win tier from 1 to 15 pays coins and Champions Tokens, topping out at 250,000 coins and 450 tokens for 15 wins at Elite I, with packs moved into the Token Store. Full table in our FC 27 FUT Champions Finals rewards guide.
How do you repair a bad multiplier fast?
- Stop quitting, including dashboarding a losing game. One exit undoes 13 games of recovery.
- Fix disconnects before you grind. Wired connection, no background downloads — and if EA's servers are the problem, wait rather than feed the counter.
- Rebuild in Squad Battles. Completed offline matches bank +0.02 repeatedly and still pay the Completion Award.
- Finish losing matches. The Completion Award (~550) plus salvaged Skill Rewards beats zero, and it moves the multiplier the right way.
- Then switch modes for income. With a healthy multiplier, Rivals and Champions are where EA put the biggest Competition Reward increase. Rivals Bounties stack on top, per match, win or lose.
What we still don't know
Honest limits, because the half-answers are what keep this question alive:
- EA publishes no complete FC 27 table of which DNF value applies to each mode or difficulty, so the mode-specific maximums circulating online are estimates.
- No per-mode Competition Reward figure is published either — "several times more" is the only magnitude EA has given.
- The Completion Award's precise trigger is unconfirmed; 549–595 is measured, not official.
- Coin Boost values for FC 27 are unconfirmed.
Anyone quoting one exact coins-per-match figure for your club is guessing. The structure is solid, though — and the structure is enough to show where your coins are going.

FAQ
Why am I only getting 500 Match Coins per game in FC 27? Almost always the mode. 500–600 coins was the FC 26 baseline EA quoted, and Squad Battles received the smallest increase this year. Check your Competition Reward by playing the same quality of match in Rivals and comparing the total — if the number jumps, your multiplier was never the issue.
Does the DNF Multiplier affect all my Match Coins? No. It only multiplies the Skill Rewards portion, which caps at about +550 before deductions. The Completion Award, Competition Reward and any Coin Boost are added afterwards at full value.
How many games does it take to fix my DNF Multiplier? Thirteen completed matches per quit — a 0.25 penalty recovered at +0.02 per clean game.
Do disconnects count against my DNF Multiplier? Yes. A dropped connection or a closed game is recorded like a quit, which is why connection problems and falling coin totals show up together.
Does it hurt my multiplier if my opponent quits? No. That match's rewards are pro-rated because it ended early, but your account multiplier is untouched.
Do higher Divisions pay more Match Coins in FC 27? Not currently. Division affects weekly Rivals rewards, and EA has described Division-scaled post-match rewards as something it is looking at for later in the year.
