Quick answer (TLDR). Yes — you can remove an Evolution in FC 27, including one that is still in progress, and EA confirms that if the card was tradeable before you started, removing all Evolutions makes it tradeable again. What you don't get back: the Evolution entry itself, the unearned upgrades on a cancelled Training Camp Evo, and — for Training Camp Evos, in EA's own words — the coins or FC Points you paid to access it. Removal is final and can't be undone.
EA SPORTS FC 27 has been fully live since 25 September 2026, we are in week 2 of Season 1 (Ones to Watch, 17 September – 22 October) with Destined for Glory running alongside it, and the most expensive mistake in most clubs right now is a card locked into the wrong Evolution.
That mistake used to be permanent. It isn't any more — and almost nobody is using the escape hatch correctly. Everything factual below is checked against EA's own help article, "EA SPORTS FC™ 27 Evolutions Player Item upgrades" (help.ea.com), re-fetched live on 27 September 2026, plus the FC 27 Evolutions tracker on FUT.GG read the same day. Where EA has published nothing, we say so.

Can you remove an Evolution in FC 27?
Yes. EA's FAQ is explicit, and it covers in-progress Evos too:
"Yes, you can remove an Evolution from a Player item, including an Evolution that's still in progress. You can only submit one Player per Evolution, and you can't withdraw your Player or forfeit the Evolution." — EA Help, EA SPORTS FC™ 27 Evolutions Player Item upgrades
Read that twice, because EA contradicts itself inside a single paragraph and the contradiction is the whole point. You can remove the Evolution from the card. You cannot withdraw the card from the Evolution. Those sound identical and they are not:
- Remove works on the player item. You open the card's action menu and strip the upgrades off it. The card comes back to your club.
- Withdraw / forfeit would work on the Evolution slot — taking your entry back so you could use it on a different player. That does not exist. The entry is spent the moment you submit.
So removal rescues the card, never the slot. Every guide calling this an "Evo undo" is half right. And one more EA line to read before you touch anything: "Removing an Evolution is final and can't be undone."
This is not new to FC 27, and we should be straight about that: Evo removal arrived in FC 26 — the community called it "Evo Undo" and the full reset — and carries into FC 27 (reported at the time by FifaUltimateTeam.it, widely discussed on r/EASportsFC). What is new in FC 27 is the surrounding economy: Repeatable Evolutions, Training Camp Evolutions and the FUT Gallery all interact with removal in ways FC 26 never had to explain.
How do you remove an Evolution in FC 27?
EA documents two granularities — strip the last one, or strip everything:
- Open the Player Item's action menu.
- Choose whether to remove the last Evolution or all Evolutions.
- View the downgrade details to check which upgrades will be removed.
- Hold the confirmation control to remove the Evolution.
Two details people miss. The downgrade preview in step 3 is not decoration — it's the only place you see which attributes, PlayStyles and Role familiarity drop off, and it's your last exit. And:
"After you remove an Evolution, the Player Item is sent to your Club. If it was in your squad, you'll need to add it to your squad again."
Expect a hole in your starting XI. Strip an Evo an hour before a Champions run and you kick off with ten men and a wrong chemistry read unless you rebuild the squad first.
Does removing an Evolution make the card tradeable again?
This is the money question, and EA answers it directly:
"If your Player Item was tradeable before you applied any Evolutions, you can trade it again after you remove all Evolutions."
Three conditions hide in that one sentence:
- "tradeable before" — if you evolved an untradeable card (SBC output, objective reward, untradeable pack pull), it stays untradeable forever. Removal restores the card's original state, it does not upgrade it.
- "all Evolutions" — removing only the last stage of a three-Evo chain does not unlock the transfer market. You have to strip the lot.
- The baseline rule it reverses: "Once a Player is submitted to a standard Evolution slot, they become untradeable."
Community reports on r/EASportsFC during the FC 26 cycle described last-Evolution removal as repeatable without a cap, which is what makes chain experimentation viable — but EA publishes no limit either way, so treat unlimited removals as community-observed, not guaranteed.
One bug report is worth knowing before you plan around this: on the EA Forums, an FC 26 player documented removing an Evolution and then being unable to re-apply that same Evolution to the same player. EA has never published the intended behaviour. Assume removal may burn that specific Evolution for that card.
What do you never get back?
Three things EA states outright, and one it leaves silent. Confirmed gone: the Evolution entry itself, the unearned upgrades on a cancelled Training Camp Evo, and any level you left incomplete when the timer ran out. Unconfirmed either way: the unlock cost of a paid standard slot.
EA's refund language exists in exactly one place, and it is about Training Camp Evolutions:
"You can also cancel Training Camp Evolutions, but you won't get any unearned upgrades. If you cancel, you won't get rewards for the remaining levels or receive back any FC Points or Ultimate Team™ Coins used to access the Evolution."
Note carefully what that does not say. EA has published no refund policy at all for a paid standard Evolution slot that you later strip off the card. The only statement on the record is the Training Camp one. Until EA says otherwise, price every paid Evo as a non-refundable purchase.
The live FC 27 price list — what a mistake actually costs
Read off the FUT.GG FC 27 Evolutions tracker on 27 September 2026, these were the Evolutions live in Season 1 and what they charge to enter:
| Evolution | Coins | FC Points | Ends at | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ones to Watch Retro 20 / 19 / 18 | 25,000 each | 200 each | No upgrades at all — OTW Retro rarity only | Cosmetic, no entry requirements |
| Creative Crossroads | 15,000 | 150 | 81 OVR, Shadow Striker+ | Pathway, max 79 CAM |
| Frontline Paradox | Free | — | 81 OVR, Advanced Forward+ | Pathway, max 79 ST |
| Pivot Shift | Free | — | 80 OVR | Pathway, max 79 CDM/CM |
| Fullback Fork | Free | — | 80 OVR | Pathway, max 79 LB/RB |
| Midfield Glow Up | Free | — | 79 OVR, Deep Lying Playmaker+ or Box Crasher+ | Training Camp, 1 day |
| Repeat Delivery | Free | — | 78 OVR, plus Skill Moves and Weak Foot | Repeatable — 2 entries, 1 day |
| Intro to Repeatable Evolutions | Free | — | Small OVR bump | Repeatable — 2 entries |
| Intro to Evolutions | Free | — | 79 OVR, Wingback+ | Linear, max 75 RB |
| Intro to Pathway Evolutions | Free | — | 80 OVR, max 3 PlayStyles | Pathway |
| Intro to Training Camp EVOs | Free | — | Fullback+ | Training Camp, 1 hour |
The number to stare at is 25,000 coins. The three Ones to Watch Retro Evolutions are the most expensive things in the list, have no requirements and no attribute upgrades whatsoever, and exist purely to stamp a retro OTW rarity onto a card. For context: when we re-derived the market for the FC 27 Item Score table on 26 September, base gold 85s were trading around 1,900 coins. One cosmetic Evo entry is roughly thirteen 85-rated cards, and removal hands the card back with nothing to show for the spend.
What are Repeatable Evolutions — and where is the payment trap?
Repeatable Evolutions are the mechanic EA documents most carefully in the FC 27 help article, and the expensive part is buried in the FAQ:
"If an Evolution slot requires payment, each repeat requires a separate payment. Paying for the slot gives you one entry, not every available repeat."
That is the trap in one line. A Repeatable Evolution showing two available entries is not a two-for-one. If it has an unlock cost, running a second player through it costs the unlock cost again. The two Repeatable Evos live right now — Repeat Delivery and Intro to Repeatable Evolutions, both showing 2 entries — happen to be free, so the trap is dormant this week. It will not stay dormant once paid repeatables land.
The second rule:
"Some Repeatable Evolutions can also have a cooldown. After completing the Evolution, you'll need to wait for the cooldown to end before starting it again."
And the eligibility rule, which is the useful half: "You can submit the same Player Item to the same Repeatable Evolution again if the Player Item still meets its entry requirements." Most Evos cap entry at a maximum OVR — so the rating Repeat Delivery hands out can push your own card out of its own entry requirement. Plan your Evo chain around the caps, not the upgrades; our day-one Evolutions and Pathways guide covers how the branching choices interact with them.

Does an Evolution help your FUT Gallery score?
No — and this is the FC 27 fact most likely to cost you coins this month, because the Gallery is where everyone is currently pouring their budget. EA is unambiguous:
"Yes. The Gallery counts the original version of your Player Item. […] If you apply an Evolution, the Evolution upgrades don't increase its Gallery Item Score or add another version of the Player Item to the Gallery."
So evolving a card cannot raise a Gallery Set's score and cannot give you a second Gallery entry for the same player. If your goal is Gallery Levels or Tokens, an Evolution is a pure sidegrade — and EA's FAQ adds that loan items don't count either. Our breakdown of which cards register and which quietly don't is in FC 27 Gallery Players Not Counting.
One honest caveat: EA's wording covers "the Evolution upgrades". The three Ones to Watch Retro Evos apply a rarity rather than an attribute upgrade, and EA has not published whether a rarity change registers as "another version" in the Gallery. Check the Set preview in-game before spending 25,000 coins on that theory.
Do Evolutions expire, and what happens to your progress?
Two separate clocks, and EA names both:
"Evolutions can have two separate time limits. Look for Get Within X Days and Expires In X Days in-game. Not all Evolution Slots have both time limits — they might have one, both, or neither."
- Get Within X Days = how long you have to activate the slot.
- Expires In X Days = how long you have to finish it.
If the second clock runs out: "you'll keep the upgrades from any levels you completed. You won't get upgrades from levels that are incomplete or partially complete." Partial progress on a level pays nothing. Finish a level or don't start it.
Training Camp Evos run on a different model — passive, no matches, and per EA they "can last from a few hours to more than 30 days", with rewards scaling to the wait. The current free trio sits at the short end; we listed them in the week 1 Evolutions guide.
Can you use an evolved player in SBCs?
Only once the Evolution is finished:
"You can't submit Evolution Players in Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) while they're still in progress. However, once a Player Item is fully upgraded and the Evolution is complete, you can use them in SBCs."
This is a real trap during a week like this one, when Season 1's Upgrade SBCs are eating fodder. An 84 sitting in a half-finished Evo is not fodder — it's frozen. Either complete the Evo, or strip it and submit the card.
When is removing an Evolution actually worth it?
Worth it — the base card is worth more than the upgrade. You evolved a tradeable special card early, the market moved, and the base version is now worth real coins. Strip all Evos, sell the original, buy the card you actually want. Strongest use of removal, and it only works if the card started tradeable.
Worth it — you picked the wrong Pathway branch. Pathways force a fork, and FC 27's PlayStyle+ cap of 3 per item means a wrong branch is genuinely wasted. Inside an unfinished level you don't need removal at all: "Rewards choices can be changed at any time, and your choice is only locked when you complete the Evolution level and claim its rewards." Removal is for branches you already claimed.
Worth it — the card is blocking an SBC or a chain. Frozen fodder, and cards that no longer meet a later Evo's entry cap, are cheaper to strip than to work around.
Not worth it — you're chasing Gallery score. Removal won't change your Item Score, because the Gallery was only ever counting the original card.

FAQ
Can you remove an Evolution in FC 27? Yes. EA confirms you can remove an Evolution from a player item, including one still in progress, via the item's action menu — either the last applied Evolution or all of them. Removal is final and cannot be undone.
Does removing all Evolutions make a card tradeable again? Only if it was tradeable before you started. EA's wording: "If your Player Item was tradeable before you applied any Evolutions, you can trade it again after you remove all Evolutions." A card that entered untradeable stays untradeable, and stripping only the last stage of a chain is not enough.
Do you get your coins or FC Points back? No. For Training Camp Evolutions EA states that cancelling returns neither the unearned upgrades nor "any FC Points or Ultimate Team™ Coins used to access the Evolution". For paid standard slots EA has published no refund policy at all, so treat every unlock cost as spent.
Can you take your player back out of a slot to use a different one? No. EA says you can only submit one player per Evolution and "you can't withdraw your Player or forfeit the Evolution". Removal returns the card, never the entry.
Do Repeatable Evolutions cost you twice? If the slot has an unlock cost, yes — EA: "Paying for the slot gives you one entry, not every available repeat." Some also have a cooldown, and your player must still meet the entry requirements, which the first run's OVR boost can break.
Does evolving a card raise my FUT Gallery Item Score? No. EA states the Gallery counts the original version of the player item, and Evolution upgrades neither increase its Gallery Item Score nor add another version to the Gallery.
