FC 27 Rivals Season 2 Reset: Where You Drop and the Promotion Worth 2 Divisions

FC 27 Season 1 ends on Thursday 22 October 2026, and almost nobody keeps their Division Rivals rank. In EA SPORTS FC 27 Ultimate Team, most players are dropped from the division they finish in, usually by two divisions. Only Divisions 9 and 10 stay put. That's why "is relegating 2 divisions too harsh?" became an r/EASportsFC thread on Sunday 18 October. The drop is not uniform, though. Some last-week promotions move your Season 2 start by two divisions. Others don't move it at all.

FC 27 is in the final week of Season 1. EA's Launch Rewards Pitch Notes list Season 2 as 22 October to 3 December 2026. Below you'll find the full finish-to-restart map, which promotions are worth chasing before Thursday, what the drop costs in coins and Champions Qualification Points, and how to climb back fastest in Season 2.

TLDR: FC 27 Rivals Season 2 reset in 30 seconds. Season 2 starts Thursday 22 October 2026. EA confirms everyone is "dropped from the Division that you previously finished in" but doesn't publish the size of the drop. The Season 1 restart map tracked by fifauteam: Elite → D2, D1 → D3, D2 → D3, D3 → D5, D4 → D6, D5 → D7, D6 → D8, D7 → D8, D8 → D9, D9 and D10 stay put. That's a two-division drop for most players. The best promotion to chase this week is D3 → D2, which moves your restart from D5 to D3. D2 → D1, D7 → D6 and D9 → D8 don't change your restart at all, although they do raise your final weekly reward. Your restart division also sets your Champions Qualification Points rate. Counting weekly Rivals reward CQP only, at Season 1 values, a D3 start reaches 1,000 CQP in 2 weeks. A D8 start without promotions takes 13 weeks, and Season 2 only has 6.

When does FC 27 Season 2 start, and when does Rivals reset?

EA's calendar is fixed. EA's FC 27 Launch Rewards Pitch Notes list:

SeasonDatesLength
Season 1: Ones to Watch17 Sept – 22 Oct 202635 days
Season 222 Oct – 3 Dec 202642 days (6 weeks)
Season 33 Dec 2026 – 14 Jan 202742 days
Season 414 Jan – 25 Feb 202742 days
Season 525 Feb – 8 Apr 202742 days

22 October is a Thursday, the same weekday the Rivals week ends. EA's Rivals help page says: "Rewards are released on Thursdays at 06:59 AM UTC."

EA doesn't publish an exact rollover time for the season itself. Trackers expect the ladder to reset alongside the Thursday reward drop, but that hasn't been confirmed. So treat Wednesday 21 October as your real last day: any promotion you need should be locked in before you go to bed that night. That's Wednesday night in Europe, or Wednesday evening in the Americas.

Your final Season 1 weekly reward is paid on your division and rank when that week closes. That makes the last week count twice: it sets your final reward and your Season 2 starting point.

How far do you drop in FC 27 Rivals at the start of Season 2?

Here's EA's exact wording from its live Rivals help page, EA's franchise-level Rivals documentation:

"When a new Ultimate Team™ Season starts, all competitors will be dropped from the Division that you previously finished in. You'll have the chance to climb back to the top."

That confirms the rule but not the size of the drop. The numbers come from the in-game reward screens. fifauteam's FC 27 Rivals Rewards page captured a "Season Restart" line for every Season 1 division:

Finish Season 1 inStart Season 2 inDrop
EliteDivision 2−2
Division 1Division 3−2
Division 2Division 3−1
Division 3Division 5−2
Division 4Division 6−2
Division 5Division 7−2
Division 6Division 8−2
Division 7Division 8−1
Division 8Division 9−1
Division 9Division 9none
Division 10Division 10none

Three things stand out:

  • Most of the ladder drops two divisions. Six of the eleven finishing positions lose two rungs.
  • There are three pairs of divisions that land in the same place. D1 and D2 both restart in D3. D6 and D7 both restart in D8. D8 and D9 both restart in D9.
  • Nobody restarts in Division 1, Division 4 or Elite. The best possible Season 2 start is D2, and only an Elite finish gets you there.

So the relegation is real, and for most players it's two divisions. It's a drop from where you finished, though, not a wipe back to Division 10. If you joined late and are sitting in D9 or D10, you lose nothing.

Which last-week Rivals promotion actually changes your Season 2 start?

This is where the map turns into a plan. Because of those three same-landing pairs, some promotions this week are worth two divisions next season and some are worth nothing:

Bar chart: Season 2 divisions gained per final-week FC 27 Rivals promotion, D3 to D2 = +2, D9 to D8, D7 to D6 and D2 to D1 = 0

Promotion before 22 OctSeason 2 start moves from → toValue for Season 2
D10 → D9D10 → D9+1
D9 → D8D9 → D90
D8 → D7D9 → D8+1
D7 → D6D8 → D80
D6 → D5D8 → D7+1
D5 → D4D7 → D6+1
D4 → D3D6 → D5+1
D3 → D2D5 → D3+2
D2 → D1D3 → D30
D1 → EliteD3 → D2+1

If you're in Division 3, this is the week to push. One promotion skips you past D5 and D4 next season. Those are the divisions where the weekly coin reward roughly halves, from 52,500 at D3 Upgrade to 22,500 at D5 Upgrade.

If you're in Division 2, getting to D1 won't help your Season 2 start. You land in D3 either way. The D1 push is only worth it for the bigger final reward (95,000 coins at D1 Upgrade against 72,500 at D2) or as a stepping stone to Elite.

If you're in Division 7 or 9, promoting is purely about this week's reward. It won't change where you start Season 2.

For Elite hopefuls, EA's help page adds one guarantee: "Once you reach the Elite Division, you'll compete there until the end of the active Ultimate Team™ Season." Reach Elite by Wednesday and you can't lose it before the reset, and you'll restart in D2 instead of D3.

What does the drop cost you in coins?

Season 2 reward tables aren't public yet. fifauteam's tracker shows them as "confirmed at a later time". The fairest benchmark is Season 1's tables, which line up with EA's own published D1 Upgraded Rewards line in the FC 27 Launch Update Pitch Notes: 95,000 coins, 4x 84+ and 5x 83+ Gold Players Packs, a 1-of-5 83+ pick, a Giant Gold Pack and a TOTW Player Pack.

D72,5000100
D8–D100080 / 60 / 50

Season 1 values per fifauteam. Weekly points: 3 per win, 1 per draw.

Here's what that means for the D3 → D2 push. Say you finish in D3 instead of D2, then hit Upgrade in your first Season 2 week without moving up a division:

  • Final Season 1 reward: 52,500 coins at D3 against 72,500 at D2, a 20,000-coin gap.
  • First Season 2 week: 22,500 coins at D5 against 52,500 at D3, a 30,000-coin gap. It keeps costing you every week you stay below D3.

If Season 2 keeps Season 1's reward values and you hit Upgrade both weeks, that's about 50,000 coins in eight days from one promotion, before you count the extra 84+ items. The bigger gap between divisions is deliberate. The Launch Update Pitch Notes say: "we're creating a more noticeable difference in rewards between Divisions, giving you more to play for as you move up the Rivals ladder." That's why a two-division drop hurts more in FC 27 than it did in FC 26.

How does your restart division affect FUT Champions qualification?

This is the hidden cost. In FC 27 you qualify for Champions with Champions Qualification Points (CQP), earned from Rivals, Squad Battles and Champions rewards. The Launch Update Pitch Notes put it plainly: "Higher Rivals Divisions will allow you to earn CQP faster, but your Division will no longer determine whether you can play toward qualification."

So your division no longer decides whether you can qualify. It decides how fast you get there:

Bar chart: weeks of FC 27 weekly Rivals reward CQP needed to reach 1,000 from each Season 2 restart division, 2 weeks from D2 or D3, 13 weeks from D8

Using Season 1's per-week CQP and the 1,000 CQP threshold that trackers report (EA hasn't published the number), here's how many weeks of weekly Rivals reward CQP only you'd need, starting from zero, if you never moved up:

  • Start D2 or D3: 2 weeks
  • Start D5: 3 weeks at Upgrade, or 5 weeks at Base
  • Start D6: 7 weeks
  • Start D7: 10 weeks
  • Start D8: 13 weeks
  • Start D9 or D10: 17–20 weeks

Season 2 is six weeks long. A D6 finisher who restarts in D8 and doesn't climb won't get there on weekly reward CQP alone. They'll need other sources too. fifauteam lists Bounties that award CQP, and EA added Squad Battles CQP in FC 27 ("Champions Qualification Points (CQP) can now be earned through both Rivals and Squad Battles"). EA hasn't said whether unused CQP carries into a new season. To be safe, check your CQP balance in-game after the reset and plan as if you're starting from zero.

Why does EA relegate everyone two divisions?

The r/EASportsFC thread that started this weekend's argument came from a player who gets three or four sessions a week. Their point: two divisions can take weeks to win back, so the reset wipes most of a season's progress. The replies split along predictable lines. One commenter called it a standard retention tool that also stops rank inflation. Another pointed out that win streaks can carry players above their real level. The sharpest criticism was that the season drop made more sense when you could only be relegated from the top divisions. In FC 27 you can be relegated from any division except Elite during the season anyway, so the automatic drop now stacks on top of normal relegation.

Both sides have a point, and the design does two things:

  • It spreads the ladder back out. Our Rivals matchmaking analysis showed how FC 26 legacy placement packed returning players into Divisions 6–8 in Season 1. Re-seeding from actual Season 1 finishes should ease that logjam.
  • It resets the checkpoints. fifauteam's FC 27 Rivals guide documents that Limited Checkpoints, the breakable kind that track your losses, "reset at the start of each Rivals season". A checkpoint you broke in Season 1 doesn't follow you into Season 2.

How do you climb back fastest in FC 27 Rivals Season 2?

Everything below uses EA's published ladder rules. The plan is ours.

1. Use win streaks, which are worth almost double. EA: two wins in a row start a Win Streak, and "for each additional consecutive win, you'll progress two Stages per win until you draw or lose." The basic streak math: an unbroken run of n wins (n of 2 or more) is worth 2n − 2 Stages, so 10 straight wins is 18 Stages. The same 10 wins mixed with losses can leave you where you started. Play your Rivals in focused sessions, not one tired game at midnight.

2. Play Bounties, especially Stage Skips. The Launch Update says Bounties "appear more frequently, giving you additional ways to earn Weekly Reward Points or accelerate your movement through the Rivals ladder." Many of them can be completed even in a loss. Our Rivals Bounties guide lists the types.

3. Remember that a streak doesn't multiply your weekly points. Points are still 3 per win and 1 per draw, and Bounties can add more. Upgrade needs 30 points, which is ten wins if you rely on results alone. Streaks move you up the ladder faster, but they don't add weekly points.

4. Get your Upgrade reward in week 1. Everyone above you dropped too, so the opposition is a reshuffle rather than a step up, and post-match coins pay every game either way. EA says Rivals and Champions have "the potential to reward several times more Coins" than FC 26's roughly 500–600 per match.

5. Don't spend Thursday morning looking for your rewards. The final Season 1 drop is due at 06:59 UTC and, per EA, "once the weekly competition ends, you can claim your Weekly Rewards in-game or on the Ultimate Team™ Web and the Companion Apps." See our reset-times guide for your local time, and note that the clocks change in Europe on 25 October.

If you want to know what else expires on Thursday, our Season 1 ending checklist covers the Season Pass, Champions entries and everything else. Our Season 2 coin plan covers the market side of the reset.

Short on time to win those divisions back before Season 2 rewards stack up? timesaver.gg's pro players can push your Rivals division and Champions run for you, or you can skip the grind and fund the squad directly.

FAQ

Does FC 27 Rivals reset to Division 10 in Season 2? No. EA says everyone is "dropped from the Division that you previously finished in". It's a drop from your finish, not a wipe. Per fifauteam's Season 1 capture, most divisions restart two lower, and Divisions 9 and 10 don't drop at all.

How many divisions do you get relegated at the end of an FC 27 season? Usually two. Elite, D1, D3, D4, D5 and D6 drop two divisions. D2, D7 and D8 drop one. D9 and D10 stay where they are. EA hasn't published the map itself. These are the in-game "Season Restart" values tracked by fifauteam.

What time does FC 27 Season 2 start? EA lists the date as Thursday 22 October 2026 but doesn't give an exact rollover time. Rivals weekly rewards are released Thursdays at 06:59 UTC, and trackers expect the reset around then. Finish any promotion by Wednesday night to be safe.

If I reach Elite before the reset, can I lose it? Not in Season 1. EA says once you reach Elite "you'll compete there until the end of the active Ultimate Team Season". You'll still restart Season 2 in Division 2.

Do my Champions Qualification Points carry over to Season 2? EA hasn't said. Plan as if they don't. Check your CQP balance in-game after the reset. Your restart division sets your weekly Rivals reward CQP, from 600 a week in D2 to 80 a week in D8 at Season 1 values, so a higher restart makes qualifying within the 6-week season much easier.

Are the Season 2 Rivals rewards the same as Season 1? They haven't been published yet. Trackers list them as "to be confirmed". EA's design goal is a bigger reward gap between divisions, so expect the D3-versus-D5 difference to matter just as much.
