Quick answer (updated November 1, 2026): No, GTA 6 hasn't been delayed again. Rockstar's official page still says "Coming November 19, 2026", which is now 18 days away, and no Rockstar or Take-Two statement moves it to 2027. On October 29, Rockstar North's Rob Nelson told Edge: "It's ready." Rockstar hasn't announced that the game has gone gold, so one formal step is still unconfirmed. The next official checkpoint is Take-Two's earnings call on November 9. Our read is that a delay is very unlikely, but not impossible.
"GTA 6 delay" pulls about 74,000 US searches a month on Google's Keyword Planner, and the fear is understandable. Rockstar has already moved this game twice, and the second move came as a shock even to its own publisher's CEO.
So here's what is known as of November 1, where the 2027 talk stands, what "gold" would and wouldn't prove, and what to do with your pre-order in the meantime.
Is GTA 6 delayed right now?
No. The official record hasn't changed:
- Launch date: November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, per Rockstar's GTA VI page, checked November 1.
- Preload: November 12, per the Rockstar Store.
- Date age: Rockstar set November 19 on November 6, 2025. It has now stood for 360 days.
The launch trailer on October 15 kept the same date. Take-Two's last public financial statement did too. On August 7, CEO Strauss Zelnick said: "With these positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, we are reiterating our Fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion."
Is GTA 6 delayed to 2027?
Nothing official says so. IBTimes UK reviewed the claims and found no announcement confirming a move to 2027 as of October 28. We repeated the check on November 1 and found the same.
The same report makes a fair point: the date is still a schedule, not a guarantee. "Not delayed" is the honest answer. "Can't be delayed" isn't.
Two things are regularly mistaken for a delay:
- PC: it was never on the November 19 list, so nothing has slipped. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC date.
- Online: GTA 6 launches as a single-player game, and multiplayer has no official date.
What did Rockstar actually say about the game being ready?
The strongest on-record statement came from Edge's cover feature, published free on GamesRadar+ on October 29. Rob Nelson, Rockstar North's co-studio head, played the game unscripted for 90 minutes for the magazine. Edge writes that the number of things developers are allowed to change now shrinks each day. Then Nelson says:
"It's ready. It ceases to become ours, and it becomes everybody's." — Rob Nelson, Rockstar North, Edge 430
Read that carefully. It's a strong statement, but it comes from an interview. It isn't a formal milestone, and the same passage shows work was still being locked down.
Two weeks earlier, Phil Hooker told Bloomberg, as quoted by Notebookcheck: "The game's never completely settled... Even within the last few months, we've changed things." Some delay posts lean on that line. Notebookcheck's own conclusion was the opposite: late changes are normal and don't signal another delay.
Has GTA 6 gone gold?
Not officially. We found no Rockstar or Take-Two announcement that GTA 6 has gone gold. "Gold" means the final version has been approved for release.
At least one site claims Rockstar announced gold on October 1. We couldn't find that announcement anywhere official. Polygon was still waiting for one on October 8, and Notebookcheck reported the game hadn't gone gold on October 17. That article also talks about global disc replication, yet the boxed GTA 6 is a download code, not a disc. Treat it as unverified.
The precedent cuts both ways. Rockstar publicly announced GTA V had gone gold about three weeks before launch. GTA 6 is already inside that window, so a post could come any day. But Rockstar has no obligation to make one, and silence alone means little.
Reported review codes are a useful stand-in. Insider NateTheHate said in late October that codes had started going out, with reviews due November 18. That's reported, not announced. If it's accurate, Rockstar has a near-final build in outside hands.
Could GTA 6 still be delayed this late?
Yes, and there's an uncomfortable precedent with the same date on it. Cyberpunk 2077 was due on November 19, 2020. CD Projekt Red had said it had gone gold and told a fan "Full confirmation!" about the date. The next day, 23 days before launch, it moved the game to December 10, as Ars Technica reported on October 27, 2020. Its explanation:
"'Going gold' means the game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it. But it doesn't mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar... This is the time period we undercalculated." — CD Projekt Red, via Ars Technica
So neither "it's ready" nor a gold notice is proof. Rockstar's own history is more reassuring, though:
| Game | Delay announced | What moved | Stated reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA III | September 2001 | About 3 weeks, to late October | 9/11 and a content review |
| Vice City | 2002 | 1 week | More discs for launch demand |
| San Andreas | 2004 | 1 week | Extra polish |
| GTA IV | August 2, 2007 | October 2007 to April 2008 | Technical problems |
| GTA V | January 31, 2013 | Spring to September 17, 2013 | Polish |
| Red Dead 2 | February 2018 | Spring to October 26, 2018 | Polish |
| GTA VI | May 2, 2025 | Fall 2025 to May 26, 2026 | More time to finish |
| GTA VI | November 6, 2025 | May 26 to November 19, 2026 | Polish |

The pattern matters more than the count. Rockstar delays a lot, but it tends to delay early. Every long delay in that table either replaced a vague window or came at least two months out. The second GTA VI move came 201 days before its fixed date. The late slips were short, one to three weeks, and all three date from the PS2 era.
Why did Rockstar delay at all? Rob Nelson's explanation to Bloomberg was that you judge the schedule "when you get within striking distance". When it did need a second delay, Jennifer Kolbe, Rockstar's head of publishing, had to phone Zelnick. Her memory of his response: "You're kidding. Please tell me you're kidding." That shows two things. Take-Two will accept a delay when Rockstar makes the case, and the second request surprised even Zelnick.
Does the marketing make a delay less likely?
It doesn't prove anything, but it raises the price of changing course. In the last few days, r/GTA6 users have posted dated ads from around the world. A billboard in Germany reads "19. November 2026", a corner building in Osaka carries the date in Japanese, and Serie A pitch-side boards show "November 19" during Milan against Inter.

A publisher doesn't usually print a date on buildings in Germany and Japan if it expects to change it. Nobody outside Rockstar can verify what's booked or what could be cancelled, so this is inference, not evidence. Cyberpunk had a full marketing campaign running too.

What dates should you watch before November 19?
There are four left, and each one narrows the risk:
| Date | Checkpoint | What it would tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Nov 9, 4:30 PM ET | Take-Two Q2 earnings call | Whether management repeats the date ten days out |
| Nov 12 | Preload opens | A build reaching consumer consoles would make a delay very hard |
| Nov 18 (reported) | Review embargo | Published scores would mean critics have finished a real build |
| Nov 19 | Launch | The end of the question |
November 9 is the one to circle. Results come out after the market closes, and it's the last scheduled earnings update before launch. Take-Two will have to state its outlook in public, and that outlook leans on GTA 6.
How will you know a GTA 6 delay is real?
Check the source, not the headline. Both GTA VI delays were announced by Rockstar directly, and the November 2025 one went on Rockstar Newswire and Rockstar's X account.
A screenshot, an anonymous "insider", a retailer placeholder or a video thumbnail isn't an announcement. If a delay post doesn't link to Rockstar or Take-Two, ignore it. Scams feed on the same confusion, like paid "early access" offers.
What should you do with your pre-order?
Nothing, unless you already wanted out. A rumor isn't a reason to cancel, and on the evidence above we think a date change is very unlikely. That's our judgment, not a Rockstar statement.
One deadline does matter. On PS5, starting the download affects your refund, and automatic downloads can start it for you. Our cancellation guide has the PS5 and Xbox rules. If you're undecided, settle it before November 12.
Otherwise, use the 18 days. Clear your storage and finish whatever you still want from GTA Online.
