Quick answer: How many maps does MW4 have at launch?
Modern Warfare 4 ships with 12 Core 6v6 maps on day one, all brand-new and original to this game. As of the Open Beta, 10 of the 12 are officially named (Cachette, Coal, Lithium, Lotus, Mumbai, Munition, Rooftops, Sentry, Silkworm, and Transit 213). Two Core maps remain unannounced. On top of the 12 Core maps, launch also includes the modular Kill Block (Westbridge Training Facility) for Gunfight, two Ground War: Combat Outpost maps set in Hajin, and the new Warzone Resurgence map Zodiac. Six Core maps — Cachette, Lithium, Lotus, Rooftops, Silkworm, and Transit 213 — are playable in the Beta.
What maps are in the MW4 Beta right now?
The Open Beta (August 28–September 1) features six of the 12 Core 6v6 maps, plus Kill Block Gunfight, two Ground War maps, and Warzone Resurgence on Zodiac. Per the official Call of Duty Beta guide, the six Core Beta maps are:
| Map | Location | Playstyle |
|---|---|---|
| Cachette | French rail terminal | Tight, multi-level flanks |
| Lithium | Mexican lithium refinery | Industrial, mid-range |
| Lotus | Korean fishing village | Mixed close/mid |
| Rooftops | New York (Hotel Times West) | Vertical, elevated routes |
| Silkworm | South Korean shopping district | Grounded, close-quarters |
| Transit 213 | Western India bus depot | Open lanes with cover |
Activision describes the Beta as "a selection of the 12 Core 6v6 maps available at launch," so these six are your first hands-on look at the full roster.
All 12 MW4 Core 6v6 launch maps
Modern Warfare 4's Multiplayer "launches with a global set of grounded, visually unique environments spanning locations around the world," according to the official Call of Duty NEXT reveal. Every Core map carries "its own custom insignia and visual branding inspired by the location, operation, or conflict surrounding the environment." Here are the 10 officially confirmed Core maps, with Activision's own descriptions.
Cachette (Beta)
On the outskirts of a French rail terminal, an abandoned wine warehouse and derelict mechanic's garage have been converted into a covert armory. Cobblestone streets, shipping containers, rooftops, and compact interiors combine into a tightly connected arena packed with flanking opportunities and upper-floor routes.
Coal
Fight through the remains of an old Soviet coal processing plant in a remote, mountainous area — complete with a fallen smokestack, ore chutes, and processing buildings feeding into a slurry-filled river and polluted flood plain.
Lithium (Beta)
Deep within a rural Mexican state beneath the Sierra mountains, Corporación Mexicana de Litio's lithium processing refinery has come under attack, transforming the site into an active combat zone.
Lotus (Beta)
A Korean fishing village in the aftermath of an amphibious assault — its market, hostel, boathouse, gardens, and residential blocks left scarred by the fight to reclaim it.
Mumbai
A fugitive's hideout hidden inside a dense residential district centered around a Victorian market, with a rail line cutting through tightly packed residential blocks.
Munition
An active North Korean command facility with a large munitions depot, monitoring rooms, a linked skybridge, crane, water tower, and multiple hangars.
Rooftops (Beta)
The snow-lined rooftops of New York's "Hotel Times West" create combat across a rooftop greenhouse, HVAC platforms, boiler room, patio, skylights, pigeon coop, and laundry room.
Sentry
An assault on a North Korean military base under whiteout conditions sparks firefights across the maintenance garage, generator room, and substation surrounding a central command center and partly destroyed barracks.
Silkworm (Beta)
Infiltrate a dense, urban South Korean shopping district with alley access around perimeter apartments. The action centers on a well-stocked convenience store, gaming den, and central subway entrance.
Transit 213 (Beta)
An overgrown central parking lot in western India packed with brightly colored buses in various states of dereliction, flanked by a repair shop and small gas station and surrounded by construction projects and high-rise tenement blocks.
The two unannounced Core maps
That leaves two of the 12 Core maps still officially unnamed as of the Open Beta. Community trackers have floated additional names from the May reveal, but Activision has not yet detailed them — so we're treating them as unannounced rather than confirmed. Expect the final two to be revealed closer to launch or in the day-one playlist.
Bottom line: 10 named + 2 unannounced = the confirmed 12 Core maps. Anything beyond these names is speculation until Activision confirms it.
What is Kill Block in MW4?
Kill Block — officially the Westbridge Training Facility — is not a standard map. It's a modular battleground that reconfigures before every match. Per Activision, it's assembled from three modular sections (two outer areas and one central combat space), producing "more than 500 combinations," so "no two Kill Block deployments play out the same." Weather shifts between clear skies, rain, and snow, and Slabs feature recognizable elements from Modern Warfare favorites — including Crash, Highrise, and Shoot House — appearing in randomized placements.
In the Beta, Kill Block hosts Gunfight. At launch it supports 3v3 Gunfight and the new Gunfight 10v10 mode, with Search and Destroy and Domination already in testing and more Core modes planned after launch.
What are the MW4 Ground War maps?
Ground War returns as Combat Outpost, where you "establish Outposts to earn resources, then put those resources to work completing further objectives" across large play spaces combining vehicle and infantry combat. Two Combat Outpost maps are in the Beta, both set within Hajin:
- Imjin Farmland — open terrain and structures across a rural battleground.
- Wolves Stadium — a dense urban environment centered on a stadium, with multi-story buildings, transit lines, tunnels, rooftops, and surrounding hillsides.

Is there a new Warzone map with MW4?
Yes. Zodiac, built by Beenox, is a new Warzone Resurgence map arriving with the MW4 Beta and staying into launch. It brings a variety of POIs, familiar features, and one tactical addition: a train. Activision also confirmed the DMZ map Hajin is coming to Battle Royale — both Warzone maps arrive in Season 1. For the full crossover picture, see our MW4 and Warzone integration guide.
MW4 maps by playstyle: which are close-range vs long-range?
The launch roster is deliberately mixed so no single weapon class dominates. Based on Activision's official map notes:
- Close-quarters / grounded: Silkworm (street-level, minimal vantage points), Cachette (tight interiors with flank routes).
- Vertical / elevated: Rooftops (greenhouse, HVAC platforms, skylights), Cachette (upper-floor routes and rooftops).
- Mid-to-long lanes: Lithium (industrial refinery), Transit 213 (open lot with sightlines), Munition (hangars and skybridge), Coal (processing plant with open flood plain).
- Large-scale (Ground War): Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium.
If you want to learn each map's lanes, power positions, and rotations without getting stomped by day-one sweats, practicing in a low-pressure lobby is the fastest way to build map knowledge — which is exactly what our MW4 bot lobbies are built for.

What are all the confirmed MW4 maps? The 10 officially named Core 6v6 maps are Cachette, Coal, Lithium, Lotus, Mumbai, Munition, Rooftops, Sentry, Silkworm, and Transit 213. Two more Core maps are still unannounced. Kill Block, Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium (Ground War), and Zodiac (Warzone) round out the launch map lineup.
Which maps are in the MW4 Open Beta? Six Core 6v6 maps — Cachette, Lithium, Lotus, Rooftops, Silkworm, and Transit 213 — plus Kill Block Gunfight, two Ground War maps, and Warzone Resurgence on Zodiac. The Open Beta runs August 28 to September 1, 2026.
Are MW4 maps remakes of old Call of Duty maps? No. Infinity Ward confirmed all 12 Core maps are brand-new, original designs built for MW4. The only nods to classics are inside Kill Block, where "Slabs" reference elements from Crash, Highrise, and Shoot House — but they are randomized set pieces, not full remakes.
Is Kill Block a normal map? No. Kill Block (the Westbridge Training Facility) is a modular arena that reconfigures its layout, sightlines, and weather every round, producing more than 500 combinations. In the Beta it runs Gunfight; at launch it adds 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight, with more modes planned.
Will there be more maps after launch? Yes. Activision confirmed additional Core modes and Kill Block combinations are planned after launch, and two new Warzone maps (Zodiac and Hajin) arrive in Season 1. New maps typically drop with each seasonal update.
