Legendary Merchants are the best vendors in Palworld 1.0 — six specialist traders who carry the top-tier stock of ammo, cooked meals, medicine, farm seeds and Pal-drop materials in the game. The catch: they have no fixed location. They roll in as random visitors at your own base, and only if your base is high enough level. This guide covers exactly how to make them spawn, all six merchants and what each one sells, and the endgame trick nobody tells new players — you can capture a Legendary Merchant and keep it parked at your base forever.
Everything here is verified against Palworld 1.0.5 (build `1.102.999`, the current live patch as of September 2026). If a guide tells you to fly to a fixed "Legendary Merchant location" on the map, it's describing the ordinary fixed vendors — not these.
If the climb to 80 is the part you want to skip, our Palworld leveling service handles it on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, on your own world or a dedicated server.

Quick answer
Legendary Merchants spawn randomly as visitors at your base, not at fixed map locations. Get your base (Palbox) to Level 25+, place it in a wide, flat, open area, and wait — a visitor NPC (merchant, raid, or gift NPC) has a chance to appear roughly 2 minutes after the Palbox is created. There are six Legendary Merchants (Materials, Pharmacist, Gourmet, Grocer, Game Hunter, Ammo), each with a unique inventory. To force rerolls, destroy and rebuild your Palbox and turn off raids in World Settings. You can also capture a Legendary Merchant with Pal Spheres to keep it at your base permanently — but it flags you as Wanted.
What is a Legendary Merchant?
Palworld has a whole tier of visiting merchants — NPCs that wander into your base for a while, let you buy and sell, then leave. Most of them are ordinary Wandering Merchants. At the top of that system sit the Legendary Merchants: six specialists that carry the richest stock in the game.
They're worth chasing for two reasons:
- They bridge crafting gaps. Ran out of a cooked dish before a boss fight? Short on a specific ammo type for your Beam Launcher? A Legendary Merchant sells it outright, so you can skip the farm-and-craft loop entirely.
- They stock things that are a pain to gather. Pal-drop materials (Flame Organs, Ice Organs, High Quality Pal Oil), high-grade medicine and endgame ammo all show up on their shelves.
The single most important fact: Legendary Merchants do not stand in fixed settlements like the regular Pal Merchants, Black Marketeers and Wandering Merchants you meet out in the world. Instead, they drop in at your base at random as a visitor, and the game notifies you when a visitor arrives. Whether one shows up — and how often — is tied to your base level.
How to make a Legendary Merchant spawn
This is the part that trips people up. You don't travel to a Legendary Merchant; you build a base that attracts one.
1. Get your base to Level 25 or higher
Base level is the gate. Per IGN's merchant guide, Base Level 25 is the minimum, and your odds of a Legendary spawning climb the higher your base level goes. Below 25 you'll mostly get ordinary Wandering Merchants and other filler NPCs. So the first job is simply to level your base — complete the base's tasks, expand it, and keep Pals working.
Why level 25? The higher your base level, the better the odds each visitor roll produces a Legendary Merchant instead of a common one. This is a probability gate, not a hard unlock, so a higher base level just means fewer rerolls.
2. Place the Palbox in an open, flat area
Visitor NPCs need clear ground to walk in and stand on. Drop your farming Palbox in a wide, unobstructed clearing — the flatter and more open, the better. Cramped, cliff-locked or heavily built-up bases can block the spawn or make the merchant get stuck.
The community-favourite spot is a flat clearing near the starting area, precisely because it's easy to reach and reset. You don't need your main base for this — many players keep a dedicated, near-empty "merchant farm" base whose only job is to reroll visitors.
3. Wait ~2 minutes, then reroll
Once a Palbox is placed, a visitor (merchant, raid, or gift NPC) has a chance to appear roughly 2 minutes later, and NPCs generally show up within 2–4 minutes. If you hit the 5-minute mark with nothing, the roll has effectively failed for that cycle.
The fast way to force a fresh roll is to destroy and rebuild the Palbox. You do not need to leave and reload the game — just demolish the Palbox and place it again, and the visitor timer restarts. As one player farming them put it:
"Just destroy and build back the palbox. Usually within 5 min, either a random npc comes or a raid happens. If not, just destroy & rebuild. It is a grind though, cuz legendary merchants are rare."
4. Turn off raids so they don't eat your spawns
Here's the lever most guides miss. Raids and visitor NPCs share the same spawn slot. If a raid triggers, you don't get your merchant that cycle. On a single-player world (or a server you control), open World Settings and disable raid events while you're farming. That removes the biggest source of wasted rolls and leaves the slot free for a merchant to walk in.
All 6 Legendary Merchants and what they sell
There are six distinct Legendary Merchants, each with its own specialist inventory. You can't pick which one visits — it's random per spawn — so if you need a specific stock, keep rerolling until the right one arrives (or capture it; see below).
Legendary Materials Merchant — Pal-drop crafting materials, the stuff you'd normally have to grind mobs for: Wool, Leather, Bone, Horn and the various Pal organs (Flame Organ, Ice Organ, Electric Organ), plus High Quality Pal Oil and named Pal drops. Players call it the one that "sells all the needed Pal materials."
Legendary Pharmacist Merchant — the full medicine ladder for you and your Pals, from Low Grade Medical Supplies up through Medical Supplies, Recovery Meds and High Quality Recovery Meds.
Legendary Gourmet Merchant — fully cooked, buff-giving meals, so you can buy dishes outright instead of running the whole cooking chain.
Legendary Grocer Merchant — farming seeds and raw crops: berries, wheat, tomato, lettuce, potato, carrot and onion, along with their seeds and various mushrooms.
Legendary Game Hunter Merchant — dropped cooking meats and animal products (poultry, mutton, pork, venison, fish and more) — the raw ingredients you'd otherwise gather by hunting Pals.
Legendary Ammo Merchant — the one endgame players hunt for: it stocks nearly every round type in the game, from basic Arrows and Handgun Ammo all the way up to the high-tier rifle, launcher and energy cartridges. If you're running one of the best weapons in Palworld against the World Tree bosses, this merchant is your restock — and it's the last of the six most players manage to find.
The Ammo and Materials merchants are the two most players actively farm — ammo because crafting it in bulk is tedious, and materials because Pal-drop items gate a lot of high-tier gear.

How to capture a Legendary Merchant (and keep it forever)
This is the endgame trick. Just like Pals, you can capture a Legendary Merchant with a Pal Sphere. When one visits, throw a sphere at it — Ancient Pal Spheres are recommended because merchants have high effective capture resistance. Succeed, and you get to keep that Legendary Merchant permanently deployed at your base, so you can buy from its stock any time you want without rerolling.
There's a real cost, though:
- Capturing the merchant turns its bodyguards hostile — Legendary Merchants usually arrive flanked by several armed guards, and they'll open fire.
- It flags you as "Wanted" (a criminal). You'll likely need to visit a Negotiator NPC afterward to clear the status.
For a permanent, on-demand Legendary Ammo or Materials shop at your base, most players agree it's worth the hassle. Bring backup Pals for the guards, and have Ancient Spheres ready before you commit.
Legendary Merchants vs. the fixed merchants
Don't confuse Legendary Merchants with Palworld's ordinary fixed vendors. Regular Pal Merchants, Wandering Merchants and Black Marketeers do stand in set spots around Palpagos — settlements, towers and islands — and a popular one, the Eastern Wild Island Black Marketeer, is a community favourite precisely because you can drop a Palbox next to him for quick repeat visits. Those are great for buying specific Pals or selling loot, but they are not Legendary tier. If you searched "Legendary Merchant location" hoping for a map pin, that's the mix-up: the Legendary six come to you.
Levelling to base 25 fast
Since base level is the whole gate, getting to Level 25 quickly is the real prerequisite — and it's the same grind as levelling up fast and pushing your own character toward the Level 80 cap. Base tasks, working Pals and completing missions all feed into it. And once a Legendary Merchant is at your base, you'll want a stack of Gold Coins to spend — these vendors trade in Gold, not the Dog Coins that only the separate Medal Merchants accept. FAQ
Where do Legendary Merchants spawn in Palworld? They don't have fixed spawn locations. Legendary Merchants appear at random as visitor NPCs at your own base. The higher your base level, the more often one shows up — Level 25+ is the recommended threshold. Place your Palbox in an open, flat area and wait for a visitor notification.
How do I force a Legendary Merchant to spawn? Get your base to Level 25 or higher, then destroy and rebuild your Palbox to reroll the visitor timer (a visitor rolls roughly every 2 minutes after placement). Crucially, turn off raid events in World Settings while farming — raids and visitors share the same spawn slot, so raids eat your merchant rolls.
How many Legendary Merchants are there? Six: the Legendary Materials, Pharmacist, Gourmet, Grocer, Game Hunter and Ammo merchants. Each carries a different specialist inventory, and which one visits is random.
Can you capture a Legendary Merchant? Yes. Throw a Pal Sphere at one while it's visiting — Ancient Pal Spheres work best. Capturing it lets you keep that merchant permanently at your base, but it turns the merchant's bodyguards hostile and flags you as Wanted, so expect a fight and a trip to a Negotiator NPC afterward.
What base level do I need for Legendary Merchants? IGN's guide lists Base Level 25 as the minimum, and higher base levels improve your odds further. Below Level 25 you'll mostly get ordinary Wandering Merchants.
Do Legendary Merchants restock? They carry their full specialist inventory each visit, so a fresh one that walks in (or a captured one at your base) gives you access to that stock. If you need a different merchant's goods, you have to reroll for that specific one — or capture the merchants you use most.
