Valheim Trinkets Tier List 2026: All 15 Ranked + Recipes (Patch 1.0.20)

Trinkets are the most misunderstood gear slot in Valheim. They arrived with the Call to Arms combat update (patch 0.221.4, September 9, 2025) as 13 brand-new items. Valheim 1.0 added 2 more on September 9, 2026, for 15 trinkets in total. Every one of them runs on Adrenaline, a resource most players never actually look at. Pick the wrong trinket and it barely fires. Pick the right one and you get a free tier of armor, a stamina refill, or two minutes of near-endless swimming every few fights.

This guide ranks all 15 trinkets and lists every recipe, adrenaline cost and duration. It also covers the adrenaline maths behind the rankings and the trinket-swap trick that lets you stack several effects at once. Everything here is checked against the live build, patch 1.0.20 (released October 15, 2026), with Valheim out of Early Access and the Deep North biome live.

Quick answer: The best Valheim trinkets are Neckstabber (Deep North: 100 health + 20 armor + 20% health regen for 65 adrenaline), Evasion Mantle (Plains: −50% block stamina, +50% parry bonus and +20 Dodge for a full 120 seconds at 60 adrenaline) and Iron Brooch (Swamp: 50 health + 20 armor at 65 adrenaline, the best early pick). You can only equip one trinket at a time. It triggers automatically once your adrenaline bar fills. You fill it by parrying (+5), perfect-dodging (+5), staggering enemies (+3), landing hits and using a Forsaken Power (+10). Every trinket recipe needs a creature trophy, and patch 1.0.20 made trophies drop more often from starred monsters.

What are trinkets in Valheim?

Trinkets are an equippable item type that grants a short, powerful buff in combat. Iron Gate's own Call to Arms patch notes describe them in one line:

"Trinkets: Equip these items to gain adrenaline during battle, and thus unlock temporary perks." — Iron Gate, Patch 0.221.4 (Call to Arms) notes on Steam

The rules that matter:

  • One trinket at a time. You can only wear one, and it has its own slot. Iron Gate's 0.221.4 notes confirm the equipped trinket and the equipped utility item (belt, Wishbone) "are now visible on the character at the same time". So a trinket never competes with Megingjord.
  • No adrenaline without a trinket. Iron Gate states "you will only gain adrenaline as long as you have a Trinket equipped."
  • It fires automatically. When the bar reaches the trinket's adrenaline cost, all adrenaline is spent and the effect triggers. Filling it again while the buff is up refreshes the timer. It does not stack the same buff twice.
  • Every trinket weighs 2.0 and is crafted at level 1 of its station. Trinkets up to the Plains tier use the Forge. Mistlands, Ashlands and Deep North trinkets need the Black Forge. Iron Gate moved trinket crafting off the Workbench in the 0.221.4 test cycle.

How does adrenaline work in Valheim?

Adrenaline is the orange bar on your HUD. The trinket you equip sets how full it has to get. Per the Valheim Wiki's adrenaline page, these are the sources:

ActionAdrenaline
Activate a Forsaken Power+10
Parry (perfect block)+5
Dodge an attack (perfect dodge)+5
Stagger an enemy with an attack+3
Block with a weapon or tower shield+2
Block with a one-handed shield or bow+1
Primary hit with a two-handed weapon, bow or crossbow+2
One-handed sword or club secondary attack+3
Trollstav / Dead Raiser / Staff of Protection cast+12 / +10 / +6
Fader's Forsaken Power active+100% from all sources

Two details decide which trinket fits you:

  • Adrenaline drains. After 6 to 10 seconds without gaining any, the bar starts to fall at 1 to 4 points per second. The fuller the bar, the shorter the delay and the faster it drains. A 100-cost trinket in a short fight often never fires.
  • Skill beats damage. Hits give a fixed amount by weapon class, regardless of damage. Parries and perfect dodges give the biggest payout of any combat action. A player who parries well fills a 60-cost trinket in about 12 parries. One who face-tanks needs far longer.

Since patch 0.221.4, a perfect block no longer costs stamina, so the parry loop is both free and the fastest way to fill the bar. That one change explains most of this tier list.

Valheim trinket tier list (patch 1.0.20)

Valheim trinket tier list built from the real in-game icons: Neckstabber, Evasion Mantle and Iron Brooch in S tier; Witch Crown, Bronze Pendant, Jörmundling and Resounding Shackle in A; Fins of Destiny as the utility pick.

The rankings weigh three things: how strong the effect is, how fast the adrenaline cost fills in a normal fight, and how long the buff lasts once it fires. To compare them, we used seconds of buff per adrenaline point (duration ÷ cost). It is the simplest single number for how efficiently a trinket turns combat into uptime.

Stat lines are from the Valheim Wiki trinket table and checked against patch 1.0.20. Iron Gate does not publish per-trinket numbers in its patch notes, so treat them as community-documented.

S tier: why these three win

Neckstabber is the strongest trinket in the game. It does everything Iron Brooch does, twice as hard: 100 health instead of 50, the same +20 armor, plus +20% health regen and −10% run and attack stamina for 30 seconds. Same 65 cost. If you are fighting in the Deep North, this is your default.

Evasion Mantle has the best uptime of any combat trinket by a mile. A 120-second buff for a 60-point cost means one activation covers most of a fight, and the next parries refresh it. Its +50% parry bonus directly raises your block armor when you parry, which matters more than flat armor for anyone using a shield. It also halves the stamina of regular blocks, the ones that still cost stamina.

Iron Brooch is the community favourite for a reason. One r/valheim player summed it up: 20 armor "is basically a tier skip" in whatever biome you are in. It is available from the Swamp, and that keeps it relevant all the way to the Plains.

Armor and parrying are different numbers. A common mistake is stacking Iron Brooch to make parries safer. Armor only reduces damage from hits that actually land. Parries and blocks are decided by block power, parry bonus and max health, because max health sets your stagger limit. Iron Brooch is a "when things go wrong" trinket. Evasion Mantle is a "make parries better" trinket. Pick the one that matches how you fight.

A tier: the specialists

  • Witch Crown is the Deep North hybrid pick. It gives an instant 50 stamina and 50 eitr plus a 10% regen boost to all three bars, which makes it the best choice for battlemages swapping between a melee weapon and a staff.
  • Bronze Pendant is the best early trinket. Its 50 cost is the lowest of any combat trinket and it gives 60 seconds of +25% stamina regen. Many players never take it off before the Plains.
  • Jörmundling is the pure mage trinket: 100 eitr and +20 to both magic schools. It is built for our Valheim magic guide's staff builds. Pair it with a Dead Raiser (+10 per cast) and it fires almost on cue.
  • Resounding Shackle gives a 100 stamina refill plus +10% slash damage. It is excellent for swords and axes from the Mistlands on.

B and C tier: fine, but outclassed

Crystal Heart's 25% physical resistance is strong on paper. But it costs 80 adrenaline, and the wiki notes it does not stack with Bonemass's Forsaken Power, which most melee players already run. Brimstone is the weakest buy: 100 adrenaline, the highest cost in the game, for a one-off heal with no duration at all. A Major Healing Mead does the same job without the wait. Nimble Anklet's movement speed is great for kiting but only lasts 30 seconds.

How do you get every trinket? (all 15 recipes)

Every recipe needs a trophy from a specific creature. That is why patch 1.0.20 matters for trinket hunters:

"Trophy drop chance is now increased by star level of monsters" — Iron Gate, Patch 1.0.20 notes (October 15, 2026)

The same patch says pseudo-random drop logic "will no longer be reset between player sessions," so bad-luck streaks on rare trophies no longer restart every time you log off. If you have been farming a Hexen or Seeker trophy without luck, hunt starred versions now.

How do you get the Deep North trinkets?

A Valheim rider on a Moose under the northern lights — the Moose trophy is one of the three ingredients for the Neckstabber trinket.

Iron Gate's 1.0 launch notes list exactly two new trinkets, Neckstabber and Witch Crown. Both need 5 Bloodgold, which puts them behind the full Bloodgold chain: a petrified Gammeltroll, Ember Charges and a Blast Furnace. Our Valheim Bloodgold guide walks through it step by step.

  • Neckstabber: Long Claws drop from the Eyeless One, which lives in the Winding Tunnels (1 claw at 0 stars, 2 at 1 star, 4 at 2 stars). You need five, so a 2-star Eyeless One saves you a lot of runs. The Moose Trophy comes from the Deep North's Moose.
  • Witch Crown: Nornathread and the Hexen Trophy both come from Hexen, one of the Deep North's new enemies. See our Deep North enemies guide for how to fight them safely.

Best trinket for every build

  • Shield and one-handed melee: Evasion Mantle → Neckstabber in the Deep North. Parry-heavy play fills both fast.
  • Two-handed melee (sledges, greatswords, battleaxes): Iron Brooch early, Resounding Shackle in the Mistlands, Neckstabber at endgame.
  • Clubs and maces: Bracelets of the Brave is the only trinket with a Club skill bonus. Use it only if you fight long enough to reach 85.
  • Archers and spear users: Wolf Sight (+20 Bow and Spear, +10% pierce), the only ranged-skill trinket.
  • Mages: Pulsating Earrings → Jörmundling → Witch Crown for hybrids.
  • Explorers: Fins of Destiny, always (see below).

For the weapons themselves, see our Valheim weapon tier list. Our Forsaken Power tier list covers which boss power pairs best with each trinket. Fader's +100% adrenaline doubles every number in this guide.

Can you stack trinket effects in Valheim?

Yes, with a swap. Unequipping a trinket does not cancel an effect that has already triggered, and it does not reset your adrenaline. So you can fire one trinket, swap to another, and fire that one too. A common pattern is to trigger Bronze Pendant (cheap, 60s) early in a fight, then swap to Iron Brooch or Evasion Mantle for the big fight. Remember that each swap changes the bar's target, and the bar drains whenever you stop gaining.

The Fins of Destiny swim trick is the best trinket combo in the game. Fins cost only 10 adrenaline, and activating any Forsaken Power gives exactly +10. Pop Eikthyr's power (−60% stamina for swimming) and the Fins trigger on the spot, giving +50% swim speed and −80% swim stamina for two minutes. Players on r/valheim report chaining this with two Staff of Protection casts (+6 each) to swim island to island without a boat.

FAQ

How many trinkets are in Valheim? There are 15. Call to Arms (patch 0.221.4, September 2025) added 13, and Valheim 1.0 (September 9, 2026) added Neckstabber and Witch Crown.

What is the best trinket in Valheim? Neckstabber is the strongest overall at endgame. Evasion Mantle has the best uptime at 120 seconds per activation. Iron Brooch is the best early pick from the Swamp onward.

Can you equip more than one trinket? No, only one at a time. But an effect that has already triggered keeps running after you swap, so you can stack effects by triggering one trinket, swapping and triggering another.

Do trinkets trigger automatically? Yes. Once your adrenaline reaches the equipped trinket's cost, all of it is spent and the effect fires on its own. There is no button to press.

Why is my adrenaline not filling? You only gain adrenaline with a trinket equipped. It also drains after 6 to 10 seconds without gaining any. Parries, perfect dodges (+5 each) and staggers (+3) fill it much faster than regular hits.

Where do I craft trinkets? At a level 1 Forge for Black Forest to Plains trinkets, and at a level 1 Black Forge for Mistlands, Ashlands and Deep North trinkets.
