WARDOGS Gold Bars: How to Convert Your Cash Before the Season 2 Wipe

Quick answer: Convert it — but convert it smart. With WARDOGS Season 2 starting 15 October 2026, your Cash and XP reset at the wipe. Any Cash you are still sitting on is auto-converted into Gold Bars at the reset, and Gold Bars are the only currency that survives the wipe. So the losing move is to hoard a big Cash pile and let the game convert it for you on wipe day at whatever the exchange rate happens to be. The winning move in the roughly two weeks before 15 October is to spend Cash on the expensive loadouts and vehicles you'd never normally risk, then manually convert what's left into Gold Bars on a good exchange-rate day so you lock in permanent cosmetic value instead of leaving it to chance. Every mechanic below comes from BULKHEAD's own announcements; the one number that matters most — the exact Cash→Gold rate — has never been published, so this guide tells you how to read it in-game rather than quoting a fake figure.

This guide applies to Season 1 of WARDOGS (Steam Early Access, AppID 1867240, developer BULKHEAD), heading into the Season 2 wipe on 15 October 2026.

Do Gold Bars reset in WARDOGS? (No — and that's the whole point)

This is the single most misunderstood thing about the wipe, so it goes first. Gold Bars do not reset. Cash and XP do.

BULKHEAD spelled out the reset mechanic in its *WARDOGSEarly Access & Beyond* devlog (7 April 2026):

"At the end of a season, your cash and XP progression will reset with your cash auto converted into gold bars… Your gold bars and cosmetics from a season will stay permanently on your account across seasons."

So at the 15 October wipe, three things happen:

  • Your Cash resets and any surplus is auto-converted into Gold Bars.
  • Your XP and progression-track levels reset — you re-grind under what BULKHEAD calls, in the Season 1 changelog, "a different XP curve with different item orders."
  • Your Gold Bars and cosmetics stay on your account, permanently, across every future season.

That split is the entire decision: Cash and levels are temporary; Gold Bars and cosmetics are permanent. A tank you buy today is gone at the wipe. A cosmetic you unlock in the Gold Market with Gold Bars is yours forever. (New to the game's currencies? Start with how Gold Bars and the Gold Market work.)

On the launch-week r/WarDogs board more than one player had it backwards — worrying that grinding Cash for Gold Bars is pointless "because gold bars reset." They don't. Gold Bars are the one thing the wipe protects.

What are Gold Bars and where do they come from?

Gold Bars are WARDOGS' endgame cosmetic currency. BULKHEAD, in its WARDOGS – TOP QUESTIONS announcement (18 February 2026):

"Alternatively, exchange your cash profits for GOLD BARS — the endgame currency used to obtain cosmetic unlocks in the GOLD MARKET."

Three facts control everything about them:

  • You can only get Gold Bars by exchanging banked Cash. They are never sold for real money. BULKHEAD's Supporter Pack carries the pledge verbatim: "We will NEVER monetize in-game cash or gold bars, they must be earned through play." There is no premium currency, no battle pass and no cash shop in WARDOGS — the only paid item in Early Access is a $12.99 Supporter Pack.
  • Gold Bars buy cosmetics only, permanently, in the Gold Market. They do not buy weapons, vehicles or progression.
  • The Cash→Gold exchange rate fluctuates daily. BULKHEAD framed it as a market — "Do you invest now or do you buy in the dip?" The exact conversion ratio has never been published by BULKHEAD, so ignore any site that quotes you a precise "X Cash = 1 Gold Bar" number — it is invented. You read the rate in-game, at the Gold Market, on the day.

Why convert before the wipe instead of letting the game do it?

Here is the thing most players miss: the game will convert your leftover Cash into Gold Bars for you at the reset whether you act or not. So why convert manually?

Because you don't control the wipe-day exchange rate, and you do control the rate on a normal day. BULKHEAD built the Gold Market to swing — "invest now or buy in the dip." If you leave a huge Cash pile to auto-convert at 16:00 UTC on 15 October along with the entire playerbase, you take whatever rate the market is at that moment. If instead you watch the rate over the next two weeks and convert on a day the rate favours you, you bank more Gold Bars for the same Cash.

The second reason is opportunity cost. Cash left unspent before a wipe is Cash you never got to use. The smartest pre-wipe play isn't "convert everything today" — it's a sequence:

  • Spend first on things you'd never normally risk. Test-drive the expensive vehicles and big loadouts while losing them costs you nothing — it all resets anyway. (Our full pre-wipe spending guide ranks exactly what to buy.)
  • Then convert the remainder to Gold Bars on a favourable rate day, so the surplus becomes permanent cosmetic value instead of evaporating.

Do it in that order and nothing you earned this season is wasted: the fun money gets spent, the surplus gets locked in.

How to convert Cash to Gold Bars in WARDOGS

The exchange happens at the Gold Market, the endgame cosmetic storefront BULKHEAD names in its TOP QUESTIONS post. The in-game steps are straightforward:

  • Open the Gold Market from the progression/cosmetics menu.
  • Choose to exchange Cash for Gold Bars and check the current rate shown on screen — this is the live rate, and it moves day to day.
  • Decide how much Cash to convert based on that rate and on how much you still plan to spend in-match before 15 October.

Because the ratio is unpublished and dynamic, the only honest instruction is: look at the number in the Gold Market before you commit, and convert more on days the rate is generous. Don't convert your entire balance in one click early — you'll want spending Cash for your last two weeks of Season 1 deployments.

How much Cash should you convert vs. keep?

There's no single right number, but the framework is simple because of the two-gate economy. In WARDOGS you re-buy your loadout every life at an in-match vendor, and Cash persists match to match within a season. So you need a working balance to keep playing, and only the surplus above that is conversion fodder.

A practical split for the final two weeks of Season 1:

  • Keep a rolling deployment buffer — enough to re-buy your preferred loadout several lives over. You're still playing until 15 October; don't strip yourself to zero.
  • Spend the big discretionary pile on the expensive stuff you want to try before it's gone — a tank if you're near the gate, a Little Bird, high-tier scopes. These all reset, so "wasting" Cash on them loses you nothing.
  • Convert the leftover to Gold Bars on a good rate day.

Remember the gate numbers only matter until the wipe: in Season 1 the Artillery Tank sits behind Career level 90 and a $500,000 one-time unlock, the Z20 Lakota costs $35,000 and a Little Bird with miniguns $50,000 (all Season 1 vendor prices from the 9 September 2026 changelog). If you're nowhere near those level gates, there's no point banking Cash toward them — convert instead.

Is converting Cash to Gold Bars safe? (The rules you must know)

Converting Cash you earned through play into Gold Bars is a normal, intended part of the game — it's literally the feature BULKHEAD built the Gold Market for. What is not safe is how you earned the Cash, and this matters more than ever right now.

With Update 0.1.2 (30 September 2026), BULKHEAD hardened its stance on economy abuse, verbatim:

"…anyone who has been caught abusing Cash & XP exploits, or worse Real Money Trading, has had their cash and progression reset and risks being permanently banned… That leniency is now over. We have zero tolerance for economy abuse and players now risk being permanently banned without warning if caught abusing repeatable unintended exploits."

So: convert Cash you farmed legitimately — through teamplay, Hot Zone presence, revives, builds and objective play. Do not chase a "money glitch," and do not convert Cash that came from an exploit; both now risk a permanent ban on your Steam account, enforced by a kernel-level anti-cheat. WARDOGS is protected by the everplay group plc EULA and a kernel-level anti-cheat (listed on Steam as Elytra), and the ban surface is your own account. Legitimate earning, then a legitimate conversion, is the entire safe path.

The fastest honest way to build a convert-worthy Cash pile

If your goal is to go into the wipe with a stack of Cash to convert, the game rewards teamplay over kills. BULKHEAD, on the store page: "Every teamplay action you perform rewards cash. From reviving squadmates, transporting friendlies to the zone, or controlling the objective." The highest-leverage habits:

  • Live in the Hot Zone. The shifting Hot Zone inside the Control Zone pays double Cash and counts double toward control. It is the single best Cash multiplier in the game. (Details in the Hot Zone explained.)
  • Play the objective and support roles — reviving, building FOBs, hauling teammates — which out-earn raw kills.
  • Don't over-spend each life. Every dollar you don't sink into an over-kitted loadout is a dollar you can convert.

If you'd rather skip the two-week grind and go into Season 2 with your Gold Bars already banked, that's where we come in — see the save-time options at the end.

Save time before the wipe

Two weeks isn't long to build a convert-worthy Cash pile on top of everything else you want to do before Season 2. If you'd rather lock in your Gold Bars and go into the wipe ahead:

FAQ

Do Gold Bars reset at the WARDOGS Season 2 wipe? No. Gold Bars and cosmetics are permanent and carry across every season. Only your Cash and XP/progression reset. At the 15 October 2026 wipe, any leftover Cash is auto-converted into Gold Bars, which then stay on your account.

Should I convert all my Cash to Gold Bars before the wipe? No — spend first, convert the surplus. Keep a buffer to re-buy loadouts for your last two weeks of Season 1, spend the big discretionary pile test-driving expensive vehicles and gear you'd never normally risk (it all resets anyway), then convert what's left on a good exchange-rate day so it becomes permanent cosmetic value instead of auto-converting at whatever the wipe-day rate happens to be.

What is the Cash to Gold Bar exchange rate in WARDOGS? BULKHEAD has never published the exact ratio, and it fluctuates daily like a market — the dev framing is "invest now or buy in the dip." Check the live rate in the Gold Market in-game before you convert; ignore any site quoting a precise fixed number, because it's invented.

What can I buy with Gold Bars? Cosmetic unlocks only, permanently, in the Gold Market. Gold Bars do not buy weapons, vehicles or progression — those are bought with Cash at the in-match vendor and reset each season.

When does the WARDOGS wipe happen? Season 2 starts 15 October 2026, confirmed by BULKHEAD's official "WARDOGSSeason 02 Teaser" on Steam (22 September 2026). No launch time is published; Season 1 went live at 16:00 UTC. The wipe is when Season 1 Cash and XP reset.

Is it against the rules to buy Cash or Gold Bars for real money? The everplay group plc EULA (§14.1) names "the purchase, sale, or exchange of in-game advantages… for real-world value" as prohibited, and Update 0.1.2 (30 September 2026) added that Real Money Trading now risks a permanent ban. Convert only Cash you earned through play. We never sell Gold Bars directly — BULKHEAD has pledged they'll never be monetised — and our service is a time-saving, hand-played farm of Cash, not a currency sale that bypasses the game.
