Why Helicopters and Tanks Lose Money in WARDOGS Season 2 (Break-Even Costs)

One r/WarDogs player posted the same complaint twice on 31 October 2026. First they asked anyone to show a clean profit from a minigun helicopter. Then they asked why non-combat work pays better in an FPS, and if they'd been playing Euro Truck Simulator this whole time. Both threads filled up fast, with close to 80 comments between them.

It isn't only a skill problem. The answer is in BULKHEAD's own Season 2 numbers, and the pattern is simple once you line them up.

Quick answer: Yes, losing Cash in armed vehicles is normal in WARDOGS Season 2. Update 0.2.0 raised armed vehicle deploy prices and set each destroy reward at about half that price. A $28,000 Havoc is worth $14,000 to the player who kills it, and a $22,000 L2A6 is worth $11,000. So a vehicle has to destroy about two of its own tier to pay for one deployment. In Season 1, a Havoc or L2A6 paid for itself with one. Anti-air pays far less too: a CIWS is now $1,200, down from $3,000. Logistics, FOB raids and cheap armed vehicles are the way out.

Updated 31 October 2026. Applies to WARDOGS Season 2, Update 0.2.0 (patch notes posted on Steam 14 October 2026, season live 15 October 2026). WARDOGS is BULKHEAD's 100-player, three-team Control Zone shooter. It is not the 2016 film, not a Warhammer 40,000 unit, and not a battle royale or extraction shooter. Prices and rewards come from the official Season 02 Patch Notes unless marked as a player report. No Steam announcement has changed them as of today.

Why do helicopters and tanks lose money in WARDOGS Season 2?

Three changes landed in the same patch, and each one hits vehicle players.

Deploy prices went up. The L2A6 went from $14,000 to $22,000 (+57%) and the Havoc from $18,000 to $28,000 (+56%). The Humvee [Minigun] more than doubled, from $4,500 to $10,000.

Destroy rewards went down or were split out. BULKHEAD wrote: "Every vehicle variant now has its own reward, so armed variants are worth far more than unarmed ones." That sounds generous, but the top end actually fell. The Havoc dropped from $18,000 to $14,000 and the L2A6 from $14,000 to $11,000.

Their damage dropped. The patch notes say the calibre reductions "also apply to vehicle weapons that fire those rounds, such as the Little Bird AH-6M Minigun, Z20 Lakota Minigun and Humvee Minigun." Heavy and Artillery turrets also lost hit-location damage against infantry. They now use "the same hit-location values as assault rifles and LMGs."

Put the first two together and you get the real story. In Season 1, the L2A6 and the Havoc each cost exactly what they paid out when destroyed. Kill one, cover one. In Season 2, you need two. Cheaper armed vehicles never had that one-for-one deal. For them, the problem is the bigger bill: a minigun Little Bird now costs $12,000 a deployment, up from $7,000.

How much does every vehicle cost to break even in WARDOGS?

This table lines up every combat vehicle that has both figures in the patch notes. The last two columns show what the same money looks like elsewhere: base Supply Pallet drops at $1,250, and assault-weapon kills at $2,000.

VehicleDeploy price (S1 → S2)Destroy reward (S2)Pallets to matchAssault-weapon kills to match
Kodiak [M249]$3,750 → $6,750$3,40064
Ural Defender$6,000 → $7,200$3,60064
Wolf-110 [M2 Browning]new, $7,800$3,90074
Humvee [M249]$3,750 → $8,500$4,25075
Ural Defender [M249]$6,750 → $9,500$4,75085
Humvee [Minigun]$4,500 → $10,000$5,00085
Little Bird AH-6M [Miniguns]$7,000 → $12,000$6,000106
Flakpanzer Gepardnew, $14,000$7,000127
Z20 Lakota [Miniguns]$8,000 → $15,000$7,500128
T-72B3new, $16,000$8,000138
Little Bird AH-6R [Rockets]$12,500 → $18,800$9,4001610
L2A6$14,000 → $22,000$11,0001811
Havoc$18,000 → $28,000$14,0002314

Every row sits at roughly 50%. That lines up so neatly across 13 vehicles that it looks deliberate, though BULKHEAD hasn't explained it. It also means your own vehicle is a payday for whoever kills it.

Three limits on this table. The SPH-2's $8,000 reward is published, but its deploy price isn't, so it's left out. BULKHEAD also hasn't published how a destroy reward splits across a crew, or what a kill pays when made from a vehicle weapon. Treat the table as a floor for what you need to earn, not a full profit calculation.

Can you make a profit by destroying anti-air with a helicopter?

Not from the anti-air alone. This is the part of the Reddit challenge that the numbers answer directly. That pilot asked for a match where someone destroys "all the CIWS, SAM sites, and Gepards" and walks away with a clean profit. Here's what those targets pay after Season 2:

  • Vanguard CIWS: $3,000 → $1,200
  • Talon 9K-SAM: $2,000 → $650
  • Flakpanzer Gepard: $7,000 (new)
  • Repair / Refuel Station: $400 → $200

Killing one of each of the first three pays $8,850, about 32% of a single Havoc deployment. Matching $28,000 would take 24 CIWS, 44 Talons or 4 Gepards.

The risk is lopsided too. BULKHEAD's 2 October hotfix said "The CIWS also now destroys the havoc in around 6 seconds as opposed to 12." That hotfix came before Season 2, but the point stands. You can burn a $28,000 aircraft to remove a $1,200 target. Our anti-air counter guide covers what that defence looks like from the ground.

Better targets do exist. A stocked FOB pays up to +$7,500 when destroyed, maxed at 25,000 supplies. BULKHEAD also says "Attack Vehicle rewards also increase the more kills they get," so an enemy attack vehicle that's been farming your team is worth more than its listed number. Those notes don't give the multiplier.

Why do players say logistics pays better than fighting in WARDOGS?

Because it puts far less at risk. A pallet drop pays $1,250 in the Control Zone, and streaks add +$250 per pallet in a row, up to 10. BULKHEAD doesn't say exactly how that bonus stacks. If it's a flat +$250, ten straight drops gross $15,000. If it climbs one step per pallet, they gross about $23,750 to $26,250. All of those are gross figures, because the notes don't say what the supplies cost you. One player in the thread says depositing bought supplies still nets a profit.

Transport is also cheap to lose. A plain Wolf-110, which BULKHEAD calls "a fast, light wheeled transport," costs $2,200 and pays an enemy only $450. Some vehicles spawn free for each team. The notes confirm "vehicles that spawn for free for each team" but don't list which ones.

So the Euro Truck Simulator complaint has a point. One comment in today's pilot thread put it bluntly: "Taxi and logistics is the only way to make money with the helis." That's a player report, and another reply preferred logistics because taxi work is unreliable. A third suggested doing both at once in a Lakota. BULKHEAD lists a delivered passenger at $100, or $350 from a ground vehicle, plus +$25 per player in a row, up to 25.

Our Season 2 money guide ranks every income source if you want the full list.

How much does your kit add to each death?

The vehicle isn't the only bill. If you die with it, your loadout goes too. Season 2 raised armor, helmets and the Basic Parachute, though the Sport Parachute and the big backpacks got cheaper.

ItemPrice per life (S1 → S2)
Level 3 Armor + Helmet$3,500 → $4,500
Level 4 Armor + Helmet$7,000 → $9,500
Sport Parachute$1,000 → $700
Basic Parachute$100 → $500
Arsenal Backpack + 2 Slings$5,000 → $4,000

A Havoc flown in a full Level 4 set is a $37,500 loss on any deployment you don't survive. Drop to Level 3 and it's $32,500. That's $5,000 back each time you lose both, and the Level 4 helmet also brings muffled audio and a restricted field of view. For the full trade-off, see our armor tiers guide.

How do you stop losing money in vehicles?

These are our recommendations from the numbers above, with player advice labelled.

  • Pull a vehicle for a job, not by default. Ask what it needs to earn before you pay. If the answer is two equal-tier kills and the enemy has working AA, stay on foot.
  • Start cheap. The Kodiak [M249] and Wolf-110 [M2 Browning] cost less than a third of a Havoc and put far less at risk. The T-72B3 is $6,000 cheaper per deployment than the L2A6, and our T-72 guide covers that trade.
  • Hunt armed variants, not trucks. A default Kodiak pays $500 and a default Ural $1,000. A Kodiak [M249] pays $3,400.
  • Hit FOBs before anti-air builds up. One reply in today's thread said to harass FOBs early, kill the CIWS first, then hunt spawn APCs. That's a player's routine, not a guarantee, but it fits the rewards. A hacker earns $2,500, and each teammate in the radius gets $1,000.
  • Repair instead of re-buying. Repair XP now goes to your Driver or Pilot track, so saving a damaged vehicle earns XP and avoids a fresh deploy price.
  • Set a walk-away number. We'd stop pulling a gunship when your balance can't cover three more deployments. A bad match in a Havoc can cost more than a good one earns.

Should you keep pulling vehicles before the Season 3 wipe?

Be selective. Season 3 is set for Thursday 12 November 2026, per a BULKHEAD developer reply on Steam. PCGamesN's 30 October report still lists it as "currently scheduled." That's 12 days from today, and no start time has been published. See our Season 3 date tracker for updates.

Cash resets at the wipe and converts to Gold Bars, so a lost Havoc costs you future cosmetics as well as today's balance. Our pre-wipe buying guide covers how to split the last 12 days.

Don't plan around Season 3 vehicle prices yet. That same report says the Season 3 preview devlog has slipped, quoting Community Manager Brian "L0ssy" McCrann: "We're making some big moves and want to get the information right before committing to camera." The only Season 3 vehicle detail so far concerns limited servers. A developer described them as having "no power weapons and no vehicles," while PCGamesN says they'll strip "top-tier vehicles such as tanks and artillery," so the exact rule is still unsettled.

Short on Cash for your next deployment?

Everything above is how to earn in the game: streak your logistics, raid FOBs, pick armed targets and keep your kit sensible. If you'd rather spend your evenings flying than trucking pallets, timesaver.gg offers a hand-played alternative.

Read the rules first. everplay group plc's WARDOGS EULA (§14.1) lists "boosting" and "the purchase, sale, or exchange of in-game advantages… for real-world value" as cheating. We don't claim BULKHEAD allows this, and the risk sits with your account, up to a permanent ban. What we control is our own side: hand-played orders, our delivery guarantee and our refund policy. Cash also resets on 12 November, so buy only what you'll use this season.

FAQ

Is it normal to lose money in helicopters and tanks in WARDOGS? Yes. In Season 2, armed vehicles pay out about half their deploy price when destroyed, and deploy prices went up. For the Havoc and L2A6, that's a drop from 100% in Season 1, so they now need about two equal-tier kills to cover one deployment.

How much does a Havoc cost in WARDOGS Season 2? A Havoc costs $650,000 to unlock and $28,000 per deployment, up from $500,000 and $18,000 in Season 1. An enemy who destroys one earns $14,000.

Are helicopters still profitable in WARDOGS? They can be, but not from destroying anti-air alone. BULKHEAD hasn't published what a kill pays from a vehicle weapon, so nobody can give an honest per-match figure. Players in today's threads point to logistics first, with taxi work less dependable.

Do you get your money back if your WARDOGS vehicle survives? The Season 2 notes don't describe a refund for a vehicle that survives, so don't count on one.

What pays the most for destroying a vehicle in WARDOGS? The Havoc at $14,000, then the L2A6 at $11,000 and the Little Bird AH-6R [Rockets] at $9,400. BULKHEAD says attack vehicle rewards rise with their kills, but it hasn't published by how much.

Does winning a match pay more than logistics in WARDOGS? BULKHEAD hasn't published win payouts. One player reports a contribution-based payout that's too small to justify wrecking your economy for it. Treat that as a single report.
