WoW Forever Dual Spec and Respec Cost: Level 40 Unlock, Resets From 1g (Nov 8)

Updated Nov 8, 2026, 03:30 UTC: first published, four days after the November 4 launch. Built from Blizzard's class deep dives, the WoW Forever beta development notes, Blizzard's October interview with TechRadar and launch-week player reports. We'll update the dual spec price as soon as Blizzard or a trainer screenshot confirms it.

Quick answer: In WoW Forever, Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40 and you learn it from your class trainer in a major city, Blizzard confirms in every class deep dive. Blizzard has not published the dual spec price, and no screenshot we could find shows it yet, so ignore guides quoting 50 gold or 1,000 gold as fact. Respecs are live and cost real gold now: players report 1 gold for the first talent reset and 5 gold for the second. That's a big jump from the beta's 1 silver. Blizzard says the price will "climb quickly and only decrease once per week". Since Blizzard has scheduled class hotfixes for Tuesday, November 10, wait for them before you pay for a reset.

Last verified: Nov 8, 2026, 03:30 UTC against Blizzard's Hunter/Druid and Priest/Warrior class deep dives, the WoW Forever Beta Development Notes and Blizzard's Class Tuning Incoming - November 10 post.

TL;DR

  • Dual spec level: 40. Confirmed by Blizzard in its class deep dives.
  • Dual spec price: not announced. Classic Wrath charged 1,000 gold, but Forever's price is unknown.
  • Respec cost right now: 1g for the first reset, 5g for the second, per player reports since launch.
  • Beta price: 1 silver if you hadn't respecced recently. Blizzard called it "temporary for the Beta only."
  • Price decay: once per week, Blizzard says. In Classic Era it drops once per month.
  • Where: any class trainer in a major city. The reset also clears your Legacy talents.
  • Before you pay: class hotfixes land on Nov 10. Plan your build in the WoW Forever talent calculator first.

At what level do you get dual spec in WoW Forever?

Level 40. Blizzard says it the same way in each class deep dive. From the Hunter and Druid deep dive: "To change your talents (including Legacy talents), you'll need to visit a class trainer in one of the major cities. Dual Specialization also becomes available at level 40." The Priest and Warrior deep dive uses the same wording.

Players were still asking for a lower unlock level this week. On r/classicwow, a Paladin player asked on Nov 7 for dual spec at level 20, so healers could heal dungeons without having to respec out of Retribution. Another post on Nov 6 asked why dual spec isn't available at 30 for a small fee. Neither got a Blizzard reply, and nothing in the Nov 6 hotfix list changes it, so 40 is still the rule.

Blizzard has also ruled out more than two specs for now. In its interview with TechRadar on October 10, it said there are "no plans to go past that."

How much does dual spec cost in WoW Forever?

Blizzard hasn't said. TechRadar's report only says Dual Specialization "can be learned at level 40 for a cost." No Blizzard article, patch note or forum post we checked gives a number.

Here's what you'll find online and why we don't repeat it:

Claim you'll seeWhere it comes fromOur verdict

50 goldThird-party guides published Nov 5-7 with no screenshot or sourceUnverified

Most characters are only now reaching level 40, so the first trainer screenshots should appear in the next few days. Until then, budget for dual spec as an unknown on top of the 100 gold you'll already owe for riding at 40.

How much does a talent respec cost in WoW Forever right now?

Respecs are live, and they're no longer cheap. Two separate player reports from launch week agree on the first steps:

  • On r/wowforever on Nov 5, a player reported that resetting talents cost 1 gold the first time, at level 10.
  • On r/classicwow on Nov 8, a player complained about "1g to start, 5g to respec", meaning 1 gold for the first reset and 5 gold for the second.

Those two steps match the respec ladder from the original game, which Classic Era still uses: 1g, then 5g, then 10g, then 5g more each time up to a 50g cap. We haven't confirmed that Forever keeps the rest of that ladder. The chart below shows what repeat resets would cost if it does.

Total gold spent on 1 to 5 WoW Forever talent respecs in one week, compared with the 100 gold level 40 riding cost

The difference from Classic Era is how fast the price falls. Blizzard told TechRadar: "We do not want to have cheap respecs. The first re-spec every hour is temporarily cheap in the beta. When the game goes live, the price of re-spec will climb quickly and only decrease once per week. We want players' talent decisions to be meaningful." In Classic Era the price drops once a month, so Forever's weekly decay is the friendlier of the two.

Blizzard hasn't said how much the price falls each week, or what the floor is.

How did respec costs change from the beta?

The beta made respecs almost free so testers could try builds. Blizzard's beta development notes said: "If you have not recently changed your talents, the cost is now 1 silver to re-spec. This is temporary for the Beta only. After your first talent reset, the subsequent cost will be much higher, but it will drop to 1 silver after 1 hour has passed."

Beta (Sept 17 - Oct 21)Live (since Nov 4)
First reset1 silver1 gold (player reports)
Second reset"much higher," then back to 1s after 1 hour5 gold (player reports)
Price dropsAfter 1 hourOnce per week (Blizzard)
Dual specOut of reach, beta capped at level 30Level 40, price not posted

So if you got used to swapping builds every hour in the beta, that habit now costs real gold.

Where do you respec in WoW Forever?

At your class trainer in one of the major cities. Blizzard's deep dives say this covers your Legacy talents too, so one visit resets both.

If you play with the Legacy system, remember that a reset clears the points you spent there as well. Plan both before you pay. Our Legacy system guide covers how those points work.

Should you respec before the November 10 class changes?

Probably not, unless you're a Hunter, Warlock or Enhancement Shaman who needs to change now. Blizzard's Class Tuning Incoming - November 10 post says hotfixes on Tuesday, November 10 will:

  • make Hunter pets and Warlock Voidwalkers more durable, closer to Classic Era,
  • make Corruption, Siphon Life and Bane of Agony worth casting next to Wrack for Affliction Warlocks, without changing total damage,
  • make Strength the best stat for Enhancement Shamans.

Blizzard also told TechRadar to expect frequent balance changes in the first six months: "Initially, we plan this to be once per week." Paying 5g or more for a reset two days before a tuning pass you can't see yet is the most common way to waste gold this week. Our Nov 10 class changes breakdown will add the final numbers when Blizzard posts them.

How can you keep respec costs down?

  • Pick a leveling build and keep it. Check it in the WoW Forever talent calculator before you spend points. Every class has leveling builds there for all 27 specs.
  • Respec once, not twice. The second reset costs five times the first. If you're unsure, try the build for a full level before you pay again.
  • Let the price fall. If you've already reset twice, waiting for the weekly drop is cheaper than paying the next step.
  • Save dual spec for 40, not your first reset. Dual spec gives you a second saved build, so a healer or tank set for dungeons and a damage set for questing stops costing a reset every time.
  • Plan your level 40 gold. Apprentice Riding is 100 gold at 40, and dual spec comes on top. Our mount cost guide lists everything you'll pay for from 1 to 60.

Which spec pairs make the most sense for dual spec?

Once it's unlocked, dual spec is most useful for the classes that can fill two roles. These are the common pairs:

  • Warrior: Protection for dungeons, Arms or Fury for questing and PvP.
  • Paladin: Holy for dungeons, Retribution for questing. This is exactly the pain point behind the Nov 7 request for a lower unlock level.
  • Druid: Restoration or Feral tank for groups, Feral cat or Balance for solo.
  • Shaman: Restoration for groups, Enhancement for questing. Blizzard is changing Enhancement's stat weights on Nov 10.
  • Priest: Holy or Discipline for groups, Shadow for solo.

For pure damage classes like Mage, Rogue, Hunter and Warlock, the common pick is a PvE build plus a PvP build. Our talents guide for every class covers all 27 trees and the 31-point talents.

How much gold do you need at level 40?

At 40 you pay for Apprentice Riding (100 gold, with your first mount included), your level 40 class training, and, once Blizzard reveals the price, dual spec. Blizzard's November 2 development notes put class training at about 206-207 gold from 1 to 60 for every class. Add one or two respecs on the way and many players will hit 40 short. Check the WoW Forever gold price today before you buy anything big on the Auction House, because mid-level mat prices are still falling.
