What is Cutting Edge: Ula’tek?
Cutting Edge: Ula’tek is awarded for a Mythic Ula’tek kill while Season 2 is still the current season, and nothing else earns it. Like its Heroic sibling it is a feat of strength: once Season 2 closes it is gone from the game for good, which is why it is the single most durable status item on a raider’s profile. A Heroic kill awards Ahead of the Curve: Ula’tek instead, and Normal kills award neither.
How the achievement is earned
Cutting Edge: Ula’tek needs 1 kill — Ula’tek on Mythic, in the Tomb of Ula’tek wing — but in practice it needs the 7 bosses in front of him too, because Mythic progression is where the roster is built. All 8 Mythic bosses are open from week 1 of Season 2 and there is no attunement, so the only gate is execution. Ula’tek closes the raid with venom waves, egg spawns and a safe space that shrinks as the fight runs long, and The Coiled Altar in front of him is a long multi-stage encounter in its own right.

Loot and item level on Mythic
Mythic Venomous Abyss drops item level 318 to 344, and Ula’tek pays the top value of 344 — the highest item level available anywhere in Season 2, shared only with Mythic Coiled Altar. The Mythic curve runs 318, 321 and 324 through the raid before the last two bosses jump to 344. The Great Vault pays 334 from Mythic clears, or 344 when the reward comes from those final two bosses. Mythic raid is the only Myth Mistcrest source alongside high Mythic+ keys, at 20 crests per rank and a 100-per-week cap. Ula’tek also drops the Tier 36 omni-token and Font of Venomous Rage, while The Coiled Altar holds Hex Lord’s Dooming Idol. For partial Mythic progress instead of the achievement, take the Mythic Venomous Abyss run at 2/8 through 8/8.
The Primeval Skyfriend mount
Primeval Skyfriend is the mount that drops from Mythic Ula’tek, and Mythic is the only difficulty that awards it. It is a drop rather than a guaranteed reward, so the achievement and the mount are separate outcomes of the same kill — Cutting Edge: Ula’tek is guaranteed by the kill, the mount is a roll. The raid’s other mount, Crimson Venomfang, comes from the Glory of the Venomous Raider meta instead and is covered by its own service.
Season 2 timing and the deadline
Season 2 opened on 18 August 2026 in North America and 19 August 2026 in Europe, and Cutting Edge: Ula’tek is only earnable before Season 2 ends. No end date has been announced, and Mythic Ula’tek is always the last kill of a tier, so the safe assumption is that scheduling gets harder the closer the season gets to its close. Weekly resets fall Tuesday 15:00 UTC on US and OCE realms and Wednesday 04:00 UTC on EU realms.
Self-play, piloted or remote
Three completion methods are available, with self-play as the free default. Self-play puts you in the raid on your own character for the kill, and nobody logs into your account. Piloted costs the same and hands the character to a Mythic raider for the fight. Self-play remote adds 30% and lets you keep control through remote-desktop software while a raider guides the pull.
Requirements
You need a level 90 character and a free Mythic Venomous Abyss lockout. There is no attunement for Mythic, but self-play on a Mythic final boss is demanding: bring your Tier 36 set if you have it, full consumables and your best trinkets. If your gear is not there yet, Heroic Venomous Abyss and Tier 36 are the usual prep steps, or switch to piloted at the same price.
How long it takes
The kill takes 1 Mythic lockout, but scheduling is the real variable — a Mythic Ula’tek attempt needs a full progression roster assembled around your reset. The $1,439.10 package is the single kill; the $3,131.10 package clears all 8 Mythic bosses and runs across a longer schedule.
