Crafting in AION 2 is not a side hobby — at the October 2026 global launch it is one of the two ways to build best-in-slot gear, and it runs on layered RNG that punishes every player who touches it. This guide covers the five professions, how the success-and-fail roll works, the separate Soul Binding stat-roll on finished gear, where materials come from, and what is (and is not) locked behind the $14.99 Membership. Every mechanic is checked against the live retail build and the official NC policy board; where only players have reported a number, it is flagged as such.
Quick answer: AION 2 has five crafting professions — Blacksmithing, Armorsmithing, Handicrafting, Alchemy and Cooking — all learnable on one character and unlocked around level 10 (open the menu with Esc → Crafting). Each craft is a success-or-fail roll that consumes materials on failure; standard gear crafting cannot hit 100%. Finished gear then goes through a second random step, Soul Binding, which rolls its bonus stats using Kina + Soul Codex. Crafting and gathering themselves are free; only the Market (listing and buying) sits behind Membership. The top crafted gear line, Dragon Lord, is best-in-slot endgame.
Applies to the AION 2 global PC launch build (Steam AppID 3393110), patched as of early October 2026. NC has not published official crafting odds, so every success-rate and cost figure below is attributed to its source and hedged accordingly.
How does crafting work in AION 2?
AION 2 uses a split profession system — five independent disciplines that you level one at a time, not a single unified "crafting" skill. All five can be learned on the same character, and each levels separately on its own track (Novice Rank 1–50, then Professional 1–50), per the Fextralife AION 2 wiki and Game Rant's full crafting guide.
| Profession | What it makes |
|---|---|
| Blacksmithing | Weapons — greatswords, longswords, daggers, maces, guards |
| Armorsmithing | Armor pieces and cloaks |
| Handicrafting | Accessories (rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets) plus staves and bows |
| Alchemy | Potions, scrolls, manastones |
| Cooking | Food buffs |
You unlock crafting at roughly character level 10, and the interface opens from Escape → Crafting (game8's professions guide). Because each discipline levels on its own, most players specialise early — pushing Handicrafting first is common, because accessories are where the big stat gains live.
The thing new players underestimate: crafting is a gamble, not a recipe. You do not simply spend materials and receive an item. You spend materials and roll for the item. That is the first of two RNG layers, and it is the reason r/Aion2 is full of threads like "This crafting system is unacceptably bad" in launch week.
The success-and-fail roll: why your craft fails
Each craft resolves as a success/fail roll. The in-game UI visualises it as two bars: as Game Rant describes it, "if the blue bar fills up, you will successfully craft… if the orange bar fills up, you will fail." A failed craft still consumes the materials. Moving or entering combat mid-craft forces a failure, so craft while standing still.
Critically, standard gear crafting cannot reach a guaranteed 100%. The Fextralife wiki reports a base success rate of roughly 74% when your proficiency matches the recipe, climbing toward a cap in the low-to-mid 90s% as your profession level outpaces the recipe — but never to certainty. NC has published no official success-rate table, so treat those figures as community-measured, not developer-confirmed.
⚠️ Live dispute: Some players on the Steam discussions report failing low-tier crafts repeatedly even at profession level 25+, arguing crafting level does not visibly move the needle. That contradicts the 74%→93% curve above. Until NC publishes real odds, assume high variance and craft with a buffer of spare materials.
There is also no documented pity or mercy mechanic. No trusted source describes one, and NC's own restoration policy explicitly states that "damage arising from a user's normal use of the game service, such as enhancement or crafting, is not subject to restoration" (AION 2 Operation Policies) — i.e. a failed craft is your risk, with no safety net and no support ticket. That is as close to an official "no pity" signal as exists right now, but NC has not said the words, so we won't put them in NC's mouth.
Soul Binding: the second RNG layer (stat rolls)
Getting the item is only half the fight. Once a piece of gear or an accessory is crafted, its bonus stats are not fixed — you roll them through Soul Binding.
Soul Binding "unlocks extra properties on a piece of gear, chosen at random from that item's list, using Kina and Soul Codices" (Fextralife). The two actions that matter:
- Reset — fully rerolls all stat lines on the item at once.
- Sync — rerolls a single stat line, so you can keep the good rolls and gamble only the bad one.
Each piece also tracks a Soul Binding Rate (the percentage bar in the screenshot above). Successful binds push that rate up as your stat bonuses mature; community guides report that once an item hits 100% Soul Binding Rate you can pay to unlock an extra Soul Binding slot — a step several guides price at around 1,000,000 Kina, and unlike the stat rolls the slot itself is granted rather than gambled (allthings.how, showgamer). That is the single biggest Kina sink in the whole crafting chain.
Because the pool is random, you cannot choose or guarantee a specific stat — you reroll until the line-up is acceptable. This is where launch-week horror stories come from: a player who crafted a Unique-grade earring and then burned reroll after reroll chasing the right stat spread. One r/Aion2 player summed up the stat target for a healer: "my heals are boosted by currently 28.4% of my atk, so I want as much attack as I can get" — which is exactly the kind of narrow, build-specific roll Soul Binding makes you fish for.
The reroll currency for accessories is the Soulstone (the accessory equivalent of the Manastones used on weapons and armor), spent alongside Kina and Soul Codex. Published per-attempt costs are modest on paper — community guides cite roughly 30,000 Kina plus a Soul Codex per bind and ~500–2,000 Kina to engrave by grade. But those are the sticker price of one pull, not the total.
⚠️ On the "10 million Kina" stories: Several launch-week players report sinking into the millions of Kina across long reroll chains (one thread cited a brutal "2 out of 33" success streak). No official odds table backs any specific figure, and the ~10M number almost certainly reflects cumulative spend — many failed rerolls, Soul Codex farming, and the ~1M-Kina extra-slot unlocks stacked together — not a single attempt. Treat big round numbers as anecdotes, not rates. If you want the deeper money math, see our AION 2 Kina farming guide.
One more trap: once an item is Soul-Bound it becomes bound to your character and can no longer be traded. Roll it before you ever consider selling it.
Where do crafting materials come from?
Three sources feed your professions:
- Gathering (Essence Extraction). AION 2's gathering skill pulls from roughly 27 node types in the global client — ore, gems, logs, herbs, cooking ingredients and Odyle (per space4games' crafting-and-gathering writeup). Gather while you level; it is the cheapest material stream.
- Dungeon and mob drops. Group PvE is the main source of the premium reagents — in particular Soul Codex, the Soul Binding currency, which drops from dungeons, Expeditions, Dimensional Invasion, the Shugo Festival, the Nightmare Shop, Hidden Cubes and the Trade Shop (games.gg). Our AION 2 dungeon guide covers the runs worth farming.
- Vendor reagents and the Market. Lower-tier reagents are buyable; higher-tier Balaur materials are often Bound (untradeable for everyone) and have to be farmed yourself.
Do you need Membership to craft?
No — and this is the single most misreported thing about AION 2 crafting. Crafting and gathering are free for every player. What the $14.99 / 30-day Membership gates is the Market: without it you can neither list items for sale nor buy from other players, and the Kina↔Quna Exchange is members-only (see our AION 2 Membership breakdown). Note the Market also unlocks at character level 45 even with Membership active, so it is strictly an endgame economy (allthings.how). On top of that, direct player-to-player trading was disabled at the global launch as an anti-bot measure, so the Market is the only player economy there is.
The practical upshot: a free player can craft everything, but can't buy missing materials or sell surplus. That turns gathering and dungeon farming from a convenience into a requirement — which is the real reason crafting feels so grindy on a free account. The common player claim that "gathering without a sub gives you bound mats" is a conflation of two separate truths: gathering itself is free, the Market is gated, and some high-tier mats are intrinsically Bound for everybody.
Crafted gear vs dungeon drops: which is better?
For the endgame, crafted gear wins. The top crafted line, Dragon Lord gear — reached through Transfer Crafting (Expert's → Artisan's → Dragon Lord Tier 1–3) — carries 5 Soul Binding slots versus the 3–4 on dungeon drops, plus a built-in upgrade path so it doesn't go obsolete. MMORPG.com's read is that crafted gear "routinely outclasses dungeon drops and can be traded on the Market."
Gear rarity runs Common → Rare → Epic → Unique, with enhancement caps of +5 / +5 / +10 / +15 (Unique can push to +20 through Amplified Enhancement), per the Fextralife and allthings.how progression guides. There is no "gold" or "legendary" tier in AION 2 — when players say they crafted a "gold earring," they mean a Unique-grade or Dragon Lord piece. For how enhancement stacks on top of all this, see our AION 2 combat power & gear guide.
| Gear source | Soul Binding slots | Tradeable? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crafted (Dragon Lord) | 5 | Yes, on the Market (until Soul-Bound) | Best-in-slot endgame |
| Dungeon drops | 3–4 | Varies; many bind on pickup | Fast early/mid progression |
A free player's crafting priority (launch week)
If you're starting out and want the least painful path:
- Pick one profession first — Handicrafting (accessories) gives the biggest stat payoff per craft.
- Gather constantly while levelling; it's free and front-loads your material bank (pair it with our leveling guide).
- Bank Soul Codex from dungeon runs before you start rerolling — Soul Binding eats it fast.
- Craft with spare materials, never your last set — the fail roll is real.
- Roll stats with Sync, not Reset, once you have one or two good lines, to protect the rolls you like.
- Don't Soul-Bind anything you might sell — binding makes it untradeable.
A note on buying Kina, mats or "cheap crafts"
AION 2's search results are flooded with sites offering cheap Kina, mats or "carry" services. Don't. NC prohibits real-money trading outright, runs a Trust Status System that restricts flagged accounts, and disabled direct player trading specifically to fight bots and RMT — so buying off a third party risks both your account and your payment. One launch-week player who threatened a chargeback was warned that "unless your account is entirely separate on the Purple launcher, you're going to get banned on Steam as well." Build your gear through in-game gathering, dungeons and the Market instead.
FAQ
How do you start crafting in AION 2? Crafting unlocks at around character level 10. Open the crafting interface with Esc → Crafting, pick one of the five professions (Blacksmithing, Armorsmithing, Handicrafting, Alchemy or Cooking), and start leveling it from Novice Rank 1. Each profession levels independently, so you don't have to commit to all five.
Why do my crafts keep failing in AION 2? Because every craft is a success/fail roll, not a guaranteed output. Standard gear crafting can't reach 100% success — community testing from the Fextralife wiki puts the base around 74% at matched proficiency, rising into the low-90s% at best. Failures consume your materials, and moving or fighting mid-craft forces a fail. NC has published no official odds, and there is no documented pity system, so always craft with spare materials.
What is Soul Binding in AION 2? Soul Binding is the separate step that rolls the bonus stats on a crafted piece of gear or accessory. The stats come at random from the item's pool and cost Kina plus Soul Codex. "Reset" rerolls every stat at once; "Sync" rerolls a single line so you can keep your good rolls. You can't target a specific stat — you reroll until it's acceptable, and once an item is Soul-Bound it becomes untradeable.
Do you need Membership to craft in AION 2? No. Crafting and gathering are free for all players. The $14.99/30-day Membership gates the Market (listing and buying items) and the Kina↔Quna Exchange, not the act of crafting. Direct player-to-player trading is disabled for everyone at launch, so free players craft fine but can't trade mats.
Is crafted gear better than dungeon gear in AION 2? At endgame, yes. The top crafted line, Dragon Lord gear, has 5 Soul Binding slots versus 3–4 on dungeon drops and an upgrade path that keeps it relevant. Dungeon gear is still the fastest way to gear up early and mid-game before you've leveled a profession.
How much Kina does Soul Binding cost in AION 2? Community guides put a single bind at roughly 30,000 Kina plus a Soul Codex, with engraving around 500–2,000 Kina by grade. The scary totals you'll see players quote — into the millions of Kina — are cumulative spend across many failed rerolls, not a per-attempt price. NC has not published official costs or odds.
The bottom line
Crafting in AION 2 is a two-stage gamble: roll to make the item, then roll Soul Binding for its stats, with no pity net and real material cost on every failure. It's also the path to the best gear in the game — Dragon Lord crafted pieces out-slot dungeon drops and keep their upgrade path. Gather relentlessly, bank Soul Codex before you reroll, protect good rolls with Sync, and keep your Kina inside the game.
