AION 2 Gear Transfer Explained: What Carries Over, Why It Fails, and the ilvl 70 Trap (October 2026)

Quick answer: In AION 2, Gear Transfer (also shown as Transfer / Global Transfer) moves the work you put into an old piece onto a new one. It carries over your Enhancement level and your Soul Binding lines — and nothing else. Manastones, Theostones and Potential do not transfer and have to be re-done on the new item. The old (donor) piece is consumed. Transfer unlocks at character level 45, and you cannot transfer between pieces soul-bound to different characters — which is the single most common reason players think transfer is "broken." None of the exact numbers below are published by NCSoft; they come from the live global build as reported by players and community wikis, and we flag every unconfirmed figure.

This guide applies to the global launch build as of October 2026 (launch: October 5). If NC publishes official transfer or enhancement rules, we will update it.

What Gear Transfer actually does

Think of an AION 2 gear piece as having two layers of investment stacked on top of its base stats:

  • Base stats — fixed by the item's item level (ilvl) and rarity. You do not control these; a higher-ilvl item simply has bigger base numbers.
  • Your investment — the Enhancement level (+1 to +15) you paid for and the Soul Binding sub-stat lines you rolled and raised.

Gear Transfer exists so that when a better item drops, you do not throw away hours of enhancement and soul-binding. The in-game feature is simply labelled Transfer. You put the new piece in the destination slot and the old piece (the source) in the donor slot, confirm, and your progression moves across. According to the Game8 walkthrough of the live global build, the Transfer window applies the source item's Enhancement, Amplification, and Soul Binding effects to the destination — and an item with fixed Soul Binding effects cannot be transferred into. The donor item is consumed in the process.

What moves, and what does not:

InvestmentTransfers?Notes
Enhancement level (+X)✅ YesCarries the full +X onto the new item
Soul Binding lines✅ YesLines and their bind rate move across
A skill/passive bonus line (e.g. +1 to a skill)✅ Yes*Only if the new item has the same number of lines
Potential❌ NoRe-roll on the new item
Manastones (socketed stats)❌ NoManastones are not inherited — re-socket on the new item
Theostones❌ NoRe-apply on the new item

Reported by players on r/Aion2, October 2026; NC has not published a transfer rules page.

Because Manastones are destroyed when removed (and a failed socket destroys the stone — see the socketing note below), the big planning takeaway is simple: do not sink expensive Manastones, Theostones or Potential into a piece you intend to replace. Transfer the enhancement and soul-bind work; re-earn the sockets.

The ilvl 70 trap: "I transferred to a better item but my stats didn't go up"

This is the confusion filling r/Aion2 right now, and the answer is subtle. When you transfer soul-bind lines, they keep the same binding level / percentage of max they had on the donor — they are not re-levelled to the new item. As one player put it after testing on the live build:

"The stats stay at the same soulbinding level when transferred... those numbers do not change based on the weapon's iLvl, just the soul bind level." — r/Aion2, October 2026

So why do veterans say a higher-ilvl item is better? Because a soul-bind stat is a percentage of that item's maximum. A line sitting at, say, 33% of max is worth more in absolute terms on an ilvl 70 piece than the same 33% on an ilvl 46 piece, since the ilvl 70 piece's maximum is higher. Add the item's larger base stats, and the upgrade is real — it just does not come from the transfer re-levelling your soul-binds. The transfer preserves your progress; the new item's higher ceiling is what makes it stronger.

Why your transfer is failing (the real reasons)

If the game won't let you transfer, it is almost never a bug. The reported eligibility rules on the live global build are:

  • You must be character level 45. Below 45, the option is greyed out ("Can't use until Lv. 45"). Several players only discovered the transfer feature existed once they hit 45, because it was locked on their alts.
  • Both pieces must be bound to the same character. If a drop soul-bound itself to your Ranger and you try to move it to your Chanter, the game shows "Soul bound to another character" and blocks it. Transfer is a within-character tool, not an account-wide gear-sharing tool.
  • Transfer is built around Unique equipment. Community guides note that ordinary Global Transfer is intended for Unique gear; an Epic is enhanceable to +10 but is usually a temporary piece you solve a problem with and replace, not a transfer donor.
  • The destination can't have fixed Soul Binding. Per Game8's walkthrough, an item whose Soul Binding effects are fixed cannot be transferred into — so some pieces simply aren't valid destinations.
  • Line count matters. Transferring a 4-line item (typical dungeon drop) into a 5-line item (crafted gear) rolls the extra fifth line for free. Go the other way — a 5-line into a 3-line — and only the first three lines port across, so you lose investment. Don't transfer a developed piece down into a lower-line item. (Community note: an extra Soul Binding line added by a Philosopher's Stone is reported not to transfer, even though the rest of the binding does.)

If you hit "ilvl 70 ring won't transfer to my crafted ilvl 70 ring," check the character-binding and line-count rules first — that pairing is exactly where both traps show up.

How Transfer fits the wider gear-progression loop

Transfer is one of four things you can do with old gear in AION 2, and knowing which to use saves a lot of wasted materials:

  • Transfer — carry Enhancement + Soul Bind onto a keeper upgrade (Unique gear).
  • Extract — break down white/green/blue gear. You get back the Enhancement Stones you invested in full, a transmog skin of that piece, and a little Kina. You cannot sell gear to NPC vendors in AION 2, so extraction is the default for levelling gear.
  • Soul Sync / Soul Bind / Reset — fix or raise the sub-stat lines on a keeper piece (Soul Bind raises values toward 100%; Sync swaps one bad line; Reset re-rolls the lot).
  • Substance Morph — turn dungeon duplicates into Potential Stones, Sync Stones and other endgame materials.

The practical order most launch-week players converge on: enhance your weapon first (roughly +3 to +5 while levelling, then toward +10 on a keeper), spread cheap enhancement levels across pieces to clear a dungeon gear-score requirement, and reserve the expensive final levels for gear you'll actually keep or transfer.

Enhancement caps and the risky +10 to +15 window

Transfer carries your Enhancement level, so it's worth knowing what that level can even reach. Reported caps on the global build, by rarity:

RarityEnhancement capSuccess through cap
Common / Rare+5Always succeeds
Epic+10Always succeeds
Unique+15+0→+10 always succeeds; +10→+15 can fail

Community-reported base success chances for the risky Unique window — not NC-published, treat as estimates:

AttemptReported base chance
+10 → +1165%
+11 → +1250%
+12 → +1335%
+13 → +1425%
+14 → +1520%

Reported behaviour: a failed attempt above +10 consumes that attempt's stones and Kina, leaves the item at its current level (it is not destroyed), and adds about +5% to the next attempt at the same step — a soft-pity mechanic. As a concrete-but-single example, one community guide priced taking a specific item-level-86 "Nuakum Helm" from +0 to +10 at roughly 30,920 Enhancement Stones and 775,100 Kina; that is one named item's bill, not the price of every helm, and NC has published no official costs. Because extraction refunds stones but not the Kina you spent, +10 is the sensible stopping point for any gear you don't plan to keep or transfer.

Crafted gear tiers (so you know what you're transferring into)

Crafted endgame gear is where most transfers land. The community tier shorthand on r/Aion2 maps to item levels like this (player-reported naming, October 2026):

TierNameCrafted ilvl
T1Star Dragon Lord62
T1.5Splendant Star Dragon Lord70
T2Dark Dragon Lord78
T2.5Splendant Dark Dragon Lord86
T3Ebony Dragon Lord94
T3.5Splendant Ebony Dragon Lord102

A common endgame plan: roll perfect sub-stats on cheap gold pieces, then transfer the finished stats into the crafted tier you intend to keep — which is exactly why the 4-line→5-line "free fifth line" rule matters when you move a dungeon drop into crafted gear.

FAQ

Does gear transfer upgrade my soul-bind stats to the new item's level? No. Soul-bind lines keep the same bind level/percentage they had on the donor; transfer does not re-level them. The new item is still stronger because its base stats are higher and the same percentage is worth more against a higher maximum — but the transfer itself preserves your progress rather than boosting it.

Why does it say "Soul bound to another character" when I try to transfer? Because the item is bound to a different character on your account. Transfer only works between two pieces bound to the same character — it is not a way to pass gear between your main and your alts. This is the most common reason a transfer is blocked, not a bug.

At what level does gear transfer unlock? Reported to unlock at character level 45. Below that, the option is greyed out ("Can't use until Lv. 45"), which is why many players don't find the feature until endgame.

Do my manastones transfer to the new item? No. Manastones, Theostones and Potential do not carry over — only Enhancement level and Soul Binding do. Re-socket manastones on the new piece, and remember a removed manastone is destroyed, so don't over-socket gear you plan to replace.

What happens when I transfer a 4-line item into a 5-line crafted item? The extra fifth line is rolled for free on the crafted item. Going the other way (5-line into a 3-line) only ports the first three lines, so you lose investment — don't transfer a developed piece down into a lower-line item.

Can I sell old gear instead of transferring or extracting it? No — AION 2 gear can't be sold to NPC vendors. Extract white/green/blue pieces (you get your Enhancement Stones back plus a transmog skin), transfer keepers, and Substance Morph dungeon duplicates.
