DBD Abandon, Surrender and End Trial: Every Condition and MMR Result in Patch 10.2.0

Patch 10.2.0 went live on 6 October 2026, and the change nobody put on the trailer is the one the subreddit spent the next twenty-four hours arguing about. The single Abandon button is gone. In its place are three options with three different ratings outcomes — and two of the conditions that used to trigger it have been deleted outright.

That second half is the part that matters. If you have spent the last year holding a dead match together by downing yourself twice to unlock the leave button, or by stalling a Killer into an automatic exit, those routes are closed. Below is every live condition, lifted from Behaviour's own patch notes, plus the 2025-to-2026 history that explains exactly what you lost.

Quick answer: what can you actually do now?

  • Abandon — available to a Survivor when every other Survivor is a bot, and to the Killer when every remaining Survivor is a bot and at least one of them is not in the Dying State. Counts as an MMR draw.
  • Surrender — available to Survivors when all Survivors are in the Dying State at the same time. This is the option that used to be called Abandon. Counts as an MMR loss.
  • End Trial — Killer only, brand new, available when every remaining Survivor is a bot and in the Dying State. All remaining bot Survivors are Sacrificed and the MMR outcome depends on the total match results.
  • Deleted: a Survivor repeatedly recovering from being downed no longer unlocks anything, and the Killer no longer gets an exit when generator progress stalls for a long stretch.

Every line above is from the live 10.2.0 patch notes, published to Behaviour's knowledge base on 6 October 2026 and pushed to Steam the same day at 14:33 UTC.

What is the difference between Abandon, Surrender and End Trial?

The three options are not three names for the same button. They unlock under different conditions, they are offered to different roles, and they settle your rating differently. This is the whole table:

OptionWho gets itConditionMMR result
AbandonSurvivorAll other Survivors are botsDraw
AbandonKiller (new)All remaining Survivors are bots and at least 1 is not DyingDraw
SurrenderSurvivorsAll Survivors are in the Dying State simultaneouslyLoss
End TrialKiller (new)All remaining Survivors are bots and in the Dying StateDepends on total match results

Two things in that table are easy to misread.

First, Surrender is a rename, not a new feature. Behaviour's notes say so explicitly: the all-Survivors-Dying scenario was "previously Abandon". So if you remember that button as a draw, re-read it — it has counted as a loss since a bugfix patch in May 2025, and 10.2.0 only changed what it is called.

Second, the Killer side is genuinely new. Before this patch the Killer had no bot-based exit at all. Now there are two, and which one appears depends on a single detail: whether any of those bots is still standing. One bot crawling and one bot running gives you Abandon and a draw. Every bot on the floor gives you End Trial, four Sacrifices, and a result scored off the match as a whole.

Which conditions did BHVR remove in 10.2.0?

Two, and both of them were load-bearing. The dev note in the live notes names them directly:

"We removed two existing conditions that could promote negative gameplay behaviours or cause players to leave prematurely. The conditions that were removed are: Survivor Condition - If a Survivor repeatedly recovers from being downed; Killer Condition - If no Generator has been completed or worked on for a prolonged window."

The Survivor one arrived in Patch 9.2.0 Sinister Grace on 23 September 2025, worded as: "After recovering or being healed from the Dying State twice, the option to Abandon becomes available the next time you are downed." That is what "repeatedly" meant — twice. Thirteen months later it is gone.

The Killer one is older. Patch 8.7.0 Steady Pulse, 6 May 2025 introduced it as: "Added a new Killer scenario: 10 minutes after the last generator is completed, the Killer has the option to Abandon." The 10.2.0 notes restate the condition as a "prolonged window" without a duration, so treat the ten-minute figure as the 8.7.0 wording rather than a current spec — Behaviour has not republished a number for it.

Why are players saying they can be slugged forever now?

Because, in the narrow case both conditions used to cover, they can.

The loudest thread on the subreddit in the twenty-four hours after launch put it as a one-liner: with these changes a Killer can now force everyone to bleed out, and a Survivor can force the Killer to wait. A second thread the same day framed the Survivor side of it — you can be left on the ground, unable to leave, surrender, or abandon.

Walk the logic. Surrender needs all Survivors Dying at the same time. A Killer who downs three and deliberately leaves the fourth alive and healthy never satisfies that condition, so nobody gets the button, and the three on the floor wait out the bleed-out timer. Previously the Survivor who had already been picked up twice had a personal exit. That exit is the condition 10.2.0 deleted.

The mirror case is the Killer's. A Survivor who never touches a generator and never dies no longer runs down any clock that hands the Killer an exit, because the stalled-generator condition is the other deleted one. Both of these are now a waiting game rather than a button.

One widely upvoted comment in those threads summed up the sentiment on both halves: that Survivors can hold the Killer hostage by hiding because ten minutes with no generator progress is no longer an abandon condition, and that both of the deleted rules felt like common sense.

Worth being precise about what this is and is not. Behaviour did not add a way to trap players in a match. It removed two escape hatches that existed specifically to cover these scenarios, and the bleed-out timer is unchanged. The feature's stated goal, per the same notes, was to make leaving produce clearer outcomes for both roles and to reduce how often players abandon a live match — and on the bot-filled-lobby case it plainly does. The edge case is the cost.

Was this on the Public Test Build?

Yes, and this is the most common piece of misinformation in the launch threads.

The options block — Abandon, Surrender, End Trial, with the same conditions — is in the 10.2.0 PTB patch notes published on 15 September 2026, three weeks before launch. Anyone saying BHVR slipped it in without feedback is wrong on the facts.

What is new in the live notes is the documentation. The PTB write-up gave three generic dev bullets — clearer outcomes for both roles, removing conditions that encourage negative behaviour, lowering how often players leave an ongoing match — and stopped there. It did not name the two conditions being removed, and it did not state the MMR result of any of the three options. Both of those appeared for the first time in the live notes on 6 October. So the mechanics were testable for three weeks; the consequences were not spelled out until launch day. That is a real complaint, and it is a different complaint from the one being made.

If you want the rest of what moved between the test build and launch, the perk-by-perk diff is in our 10.2.0 PTB to live changes breakdown, and the original test-build coverage is in DBD patch notes 10.2.0.

How does this interact with bots and the new Intent system?

Heavily, and it is the half of the change that is actually good.

Three of the four live conditions are gated on Survivors being bots. That makes this a disconnect-and-afk cleanup patch more than anything else: the moment your lobby is you plus three bots, you get a draw and an exit instead of a ten-minute solo chore. The Killer version is the first time that role has had any equivalent.

The same patch also made the bots meaningfully less useless. From the Bot Improvements section of the live notes, verbatim: "Bots now listen to Intent messages sent by players, and will change their goals accordingly." So the messages shipped alongside this in the Survivor Intent System are not only for humans — you can redirect a bot and then decide whether the match is still worth playing. Those two features landed together and read like one design.

One more 10.2.0 line is relevant to the slugging argument, because it is the patch's only anti-slug lever: Knock Out now applies 20% Hindered for 2/3/4 seconds in the live build. It is a pallet-punish perk now rather than the aura-suppression tool it used to be, and it is not a counter to a Killer who simply refuses to pick anyone up. Full perk list in our 10.2.0 perk changes rundown.

Where do you report this now that the forums are closing?

This is the part most coverage is going to miss.

Behaviour announced on 21 September 2026 that it is shutting the official forums down. The community manager's wording, verbatim:

"we've made the decision to close the Official Forums at the end of October 2026 and transition to supporting you, the Community, on the other platforms namely the official Discord server, Steam Discussions and the r/DeadbyDaylight subreddit."

The stated reason was that "user activity and engagement on our Official Forums has been steadily and substantially declining year over year". Forum members get an email invite to the Discord along with a special role, and Behaviour says a dedicated channel for long-form threaded discussion will exist there.

The practical effect for anyone hunting bug information: the Known Issues board and the knowledge-base patch notes both live on a domain with weeks left on it. Archive any page you plan to rely on. And note that the official Known Issues section of the 10.2.0 notes contains exactly one acknowledged entry — a prompt for The Slasher's Throw Spike ability lingering for the rest of the trial after one throw. Nothing about indefinite bleed-out has been acknowledged by Behaviour, so treat that as player-reported rather than confirmed.

The full change history, in order

Five first-party entries, which is the whole lifespan of this feature:

  • Patch 8.7.0 Steady Pulse, 6 May 2025 — adds the Killer scenario, worded as the option appearing ten minutes after the last generator is completed.
  • Patch 8.7.2 Bugfix Patch, 26 May 2025 — a Survivor abandoning while all remaining Survivors are Dying is changed from a draw to a loss.
  • Patch 9.2.0 Sinister Grace, 23 September 2025 — adds the Survivor scenario after recovering or being healed from the Dying State twice.
  • 10.2.0 PTB, 15 September 2026 — the three-option split is testable; the removed conditions and MMR results are not documented.
  • 10.2.0 live, 6 October 2026 — ships with both removals and all three MMR outcomes written down.

If someone tells you Surrender used to be a draw, point them at entry two. If someone tells you the split was unannounced, point them at entry four.

FAQ

Does using Abandon hurt my MMR? No. Abandon is an explicit draw in the 10.2.0 notes, for both the Survivor and the new Killer version. Surrender is the one that counts as a loss.

What happened to the Abandon option after I got downed twice? It was removed in 10.2.0. It had existed since Patch 9.2.0 on 23 September 2025, and Behaviour removed it as one of two conditions it says could "promote negative gameplay behaviours or cause players to leave prematurely".

Can I still leave if the Killer refuses to hook me? Only if every Survivor is in the Dying State at the same time, which gives you Surrender and a loss. If one teammate is alive and healthy, no leave option is offered to anyone. This is the scenario players are complaining about.

What is the difference between End Trial and Abandon for the Killer? Both need every remaining Survivor to be a bot. Abandon appears when at least one of those bots is not Dying and gives you a draw. End Trial appears when they are all Dying, Sacrifices them, and scores the result off the whole match.

Was the abandon rework in the PTB? Yes. The options and their conditions were in the 10.2.0 PTB notes on 15 September 2026. What was missing from the PTB write-up were the two removed conditions and the MMR outcomes.

Did BHVR acknowledge the indefinite bleed-out problem? Not as of the live 10.2.0 notes. The official Known Issues section for this patch lists a single item, and it concerns The Slasher's Throw Spike prompt.

Which patch am I reading about? 10.2.0 Mid-Chapter, live since 6 October 2026. This article was written on 7 October 2026 against the live notes, not the test build.

Bottom line

10.2.0 turned one vague button into three precise ones, which is good, and then removed the two conditions that covered the matches people actually wanted out of, which is the problem. The bot cases are clean — a draw and an exit instead of a solo slog. The human cases are worse than they were a week ago, and Behaviour has acknowledged nothing about them yet.

Play it accordingly: Abandon when the lobby is bots, Surrender only when the whole team is already down and you accept the loss, and expect no button at all when a Killer leaves one Survivor standing on purpose.
