Almost every Wesker guide online is quoting numbers Behaviour Interactive replaced in April 2026, including the page most of them copy from. We screened all 300 Steam news posts Behaviour published for Dead by Daylight between 12 July 2024 and 17 September 2026, cross-checked them against the community wiki's Albert Wesker page, and found eight values there that no longer match the live game on Patch 10.1.2a. This guide is the corrected version, and every number below traces to a dated Behaviour patch note.
Quick answer. On Patch 10.1.2a, The Mastermind is a 115 percent, 4.6 m/s Killer with a 40-metre Terror Radius and two Bound tokens. Patch 9.6.0 on 28 April 2026 buffed him three ways: Virulent Bound recovery dropped to 2.7 seconds, charge time per token dropped to 5 seconds, and the Chain Bound window grew to 2.5 seconds. Loose Crank now gives 15 percent, and Egg (Gold) now gives 20 percent. The widely-copied wiki page still lists 6-second recharge, a 2-second chain window, 8 percent Loose Crank, 50 percent Egg (Gold), 8-metre Superior Anatomy and 20/25/30-second Terminus. All six of those are wrong.
What did BHVR actually change about Wesker in 2026?
Two patches did the work, six weeks apart.
Patch 9.5.0, 17 March 2026. No numbers moved. The entire power was rebuilt underneath. Behaviour's note reads, verbatim:
Refactor done in the Virulent Bound power. This specifically tackles the desync issues found while using the power. Will also improve responsiveness for most of his power usage. As well changed how we detect a collision with other characters (Survivors, Killers, Zombies) while grabbing a Survivor. It will now properly detect the size of the character collision size.
That is why old Wesker footage feels wrong now. Grabs that used to whiff on a Survivor's edge collision connect, and grabs that used to register through a vault do not. The same patch shipped 16 Mastermind bug fixes in one go, his largest single-patch cleanup ever.
Patch 9.6.0, 28 April 2026. Three basekit buffs and two add-on buffs:
| Value | Before | On 10.1.2a |
|---|---|---|
| Virulent Bound recovery time | 3 seconds | 2.7 seconds |
| Charge time per Bound token | 5.5 seconds | 5 seconds |
| Chain Bound window | 2 seconds | 2.5 seconds |
| Loose Crank (Uncommon) speed boost | 8 percent | 15 percent |
| Egg (Gold) (Rare) chain window bonus | 50 percent | 20 percent |
Egg (Gold) reads as a nerf, but the basekit window it multiplies got longer, so it went from mandatory to optional.
Before those, Patch 8.4.0 on 28 November 2024 cut the power cooldown to 5.5 seconds from 6 and dropped Leather Gloves to 8 percent from 10. Behaviour has called that same timer a cooldown, a recovery time and a charge time per token across three patches, so we quote their wording rather than reconcile the labels.
Why is every Wesker guide quoting the wrong numbers?
Because the reference page they all lean on stopped tracking him. The audit, item by item:
- It calls him "one of 41 Killers currently featured in Dead by Daylight." The live roster is 44, and the same wiki's roster page says 44.
- Its Power Trivia box lists a Power Recharge time of 6 seconds per Charge. Behaviour has cut that timer twice since, in November 2024 and April 2026.
- It lists the Chain Bound Window duration as 2 seconds. It is 2.5.
- Loose Crank is shown at plus 8 percent. It is 15.
- Egg (Gold) is shown at plus 50 percent. It is 20.
- Leather Gloves is shown at minus 10 percent. It has been 8 since November 2024.
- Superior Anatomy is shown at 8 metres with a 30-second cooldown. Patch 9.0.0 on 17 June 2025 raised it to 12 metres and cut the cooldown to 25 seconds.
- Terminus is shown at 20/25/30 seconds. The same patch raised it to 35/40/45.
The structural tell is the Change Log at the bottom of that page. It records Patches 6.2.1, 7.0.1, 7.1.2, 8.0.0 and 8.4.0, then stops — no 9.5.0 refactor entry, no 9.6.0 buff entry. All three of his perks still carry the banner "This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 6.2.0," a patch that went live on 30 August 2022.
How does Virulent Bound actually work on Patch 10.1.2a?
Wesker holds two Bound tokens. Each regenerates in 5 seconds, 0.5 seconds faster per Infected Survivor in the trial — four Infected means a 3-second token.
Charging drops him from 4.6 m/s to 3.68 m/s; the dash moves at 14 m/s. The first Bound lasts 0.5 seconds, the second 1 second, and a Bound will not initiate under 1 metre. After the first there is a 2.5-second Chain Bound window in which the second can fire, and during it he walks at 2.76 m/s.
What happens on contact depends entirely on what the Survivor is doing:
- Interacting with something, or protected: he swipes with his tentacle. Interaction cancelled, no carry.
- Anything else: he grabs and carries them for 0.86 seconds, then throws them.
- Thrown into an obstacle: damage applies.
- Thrown into open space: no damage from the throw itself.
The infection layer stacks on top. An uninfected Survivor takes damage and becomes Infected, an Infected one takes damage, and a Critically Infected one takes double damage and goes down outright from healthy. Virulent Vault means colliding with a dropped pallet or window auto-vaults it, the tech that makes him a loop-breaker rather than just a chase Killer.
The forgotten detail: Exit Gates are blocked for the full duration of a Bound and stay blocked 5 seconds after he releases. In an endgame with gates powered, a chained Bound near a gate buys nearly 7 seconds of denial.
How does Uroboros infection work?
Collision adds 20 Charges. Infected Survivors then gain 0.8 Charges per second passively, and that ticking stops only while hooked or dying. Getting hooked resets them to 1 Charge. At 100 Charges they become Critically Infected: a permanent minus 4 percent Hindered until cured.
The cure is a First Aid Spray, and there are exactly 6 Supply Cases on the map, each holding one spray with 2 uses. Their auras are permanently visible to Infected Survivors. Using a spray triggers Killer Instinct for 4 seconds, so every cure tells Wesker where you are.
Do not confuse this with Nemesis, who uses 4 cases with single-use Vaccines. Both licensed Killers appear in our full breakdown of every Resident Evil chapter in Dead by Daylight, with the survivors and skins that came with them.
Which Wesker add-ons are worth running in 2026?
His 20 add-ons split cleanly into three groups.
Power modifiers, the ones that change chases. Loose Crank is the standout after its buff to 15 percent movement speed during the chain window. Uroboros Tendril adds 5 percent charge speed. Chalice (Gold) extends a Bound by 50 percent after it connects. Unicorn Medallion lengthens the first Bound 20 percent and shortens the second 20 percent, a trade rather than a buff. Lion Medallion throws grabbed Survivors 30 percent further. Leather Gloves cuts recharge 8 percent. Egg (Gold) adds 20 percent chain window and is now a comfort pick.
Infection accelerators. Green Herb adds 30 percent infection per mid-Bound collision. Video Conference Device cuts the infection timer by 30 percent. Red Herb adds 2 seconds to spray healing time. Iridescent Uroboros Vial starts every Survivor infected and Exposes them for 30 seconds on Critical Infection, which is the closest thing he has to a snowball add-on.
Information and punishment. Helicopter Stick reveals auras for 8 seconds after a spray is used. Uroboros Virus reveals auras for 4 seconds on Critical Infection. Dark Sunglasses gives Undetectable for 20 seconds on Critical Infection. Maiden Medallion applies Blindness for 60 seconds on Critical Infection. Bullhorn applies Oblivious for 30 seconds after a spray. Portable Safe applies Haemorrhage until fully healed when injured by the power.
Lab Photo is the most misunderstood add-on in his kit. It lets a mid-Bound collision break Breakable Walls and Pallets, but it removes pallet vaulting entirely. You are trading his best loop-shortening tool for map pressure. Run it on maps with dense breakable walls, nowhere else.
Are Wesker's three perks still worth a slot?
Awakened Awareness reveals the auras of Survivors within 16/18/20 metres while you carry someone. It has never been changed and is still a solid anti-swarm perk.
Superior Anatomy and Terminus were both buffed on 17 June 2025, in a patch Behaviour's dev update framed as targeting perks with lower pick and kill rates. Superior Anatomy now triggers on a rushed vault within 12 metres with a 25-second cooldown. Terminus now leaves Broken lingering for 35/40/45 seconds once a gate opens, and Patch 9.5.0 made it fire earlier so it blocks simultaneous healing.
Superior Anatomy is changing again. In the 10.2.0 PTB posted on 15 September 2026, Behaviour reworked it: "Whenever a Survivor medium or fast-vaults within 12m of you, the next time you basic-vault a Window, you basic-vault Windows 30/35/40% faster for 10s. Cooldown: 20s." Behaviour has not published a live date for 10.2.0, so treat that as a preview. We track the full list in our rundown of all 58 perk changes in the 10.2.0 PTB.
How is Wesker different in 2v8?
He is in the rotation right now. 2v8 returned with Patch 10.1.2 on 8 September 2026 alongside The Xenomorph, Nostromo Wreckage and a chest count raised from 20 to 27, and the mode runs through 29 September.
His 2v8 version is deliberately weaker than his 1v4 version. Patch 9.6.1 on 5 May 2026 reads: "The core changes to Mastermind are now applied in 2v8. The time it takes to gain a Bound token has been increased to maintain balancing," from 5 seconds to 5.5. His Innate Skill in the mode also increases token gain time by another 0.5 seconds. If his power feels sluggish in 2v8 compared to a normal trial, that is not placebo. Our 2v8 September 2026 guide has the full Killer roster and the mode's other rules.
How do you counter Wesker?
Force the 1-metre minimum. He cannot initiate a Bound below 1 metre. Hugging a tight wall corner denies the dash entirely and forces an M1.
Do not pre-drop pallets. Virulent Vault means a dropped pallet is a free auto-vault for him. Hold the pallet and stun him out of the charge instead.
Use the 40-metre Terror Radius. He was the first Killer released with a 40-metre base Terror Radius, so you hear him from further out than almost anyone. It also makes him weak on the indoor Raccoon City maps, where his dash has nowhere to go. See where each realm sits in our list of every Dead by Daylight map and realm.
Cure early, not late. Uroboros ticks at 0.8 Charges per second and only stops on hook or while dying. Curing near 100 means curing at the worst moment, and the spray broadcasts you for 4 seconds. Cure at a low count, at a case you already know.
Respect the gate block. Blocked gates persist for 5 seconds after his Bound ends. If he dashes at a powered gate, wait it out rather than running into a wall.
Break line of sight during the chain window. He moves at 2.76 m/s during those 2.5 seconds, slower than you at 4 m/s. That is the only part of his power where you are faster.
What the patch record says about his bug history
Across those 300 Steam posts, 56 distinct live-patch bug-fix entries name The Mastermind or Virulent Bound. Only 7 lines are balance-value changes. He is not the most bug-fixed Killer in the game — The Animatronic, The Knight, The Nurse and The Houndmaster all have more — but 44 of his 56 fixes, 79 percent, landed in or after the 9.5.0 refactor, and fixes were still shipping in 10.1.1 and 10.1.2. The refactor exposed a long tail and Behaviour is still working it.
Behaviour's own stats explain the investment. The January to March 2025 stats post said, "Looking at both MMR groups, The Mastermind and The Blight were both winners, leveraging their high mobility to land in the top 5." The global stats post from 29 July 2026 added, "Our European players show a preference for The Mastermind when it comes to killing." Where he sits against the rest of the roster is in our Killer tier list for September 2026.
Frequently asked questions
How fast is Wesker in Dead by Daylight? 4.6 m/s at 115 percent base. He drops to 3.68 m/s while charging Virulent Bound, moves at 14 m/s during the dash itself, and walks at 2.76 m/s during the 2.5-second Chain Bound window.
How long is Wesker's power cooldown? A Bound token takes 5 seconds to charge on Patch 10.1.2a, reduced by 0.5 seconds for every Infected Survivor in the trial. Recovery after using the power is 2.7 seconds. Both numbers come from Patch 9.6.0, dated 28 April 2026.
What are the best Wesker add-ons? Loose Crank is the clearest pick after its buff to 15 percent. Uroboros Tendril and Chalice (Gold) extend the power, Green Herb and Video Conference Device accelerate infection, and Iridescent Uroboros Vial is the snowball option. Skip Lab Photo unless you specifically want breakable-wall pressure, because it removes pallet vaulting.
How many Supply Cases does Wesker have? Six, each with one First Aid Spray holding 2 uses. Their auras are always visible to Infected Survivors. Nemesis is the one with 4 cases and single-use Vaccines.
What happens at Critical Infection? The Survivor takes a permanent minus 4 percent Hindered penalty until they use a First Aid Spray, and a Bound collision on a Critically Infected Survivor deals double damage, which downs them from healthy.
Can you outrun Wesker's Bound? Not in a straight line at 14 m/s. You can deny it by staying inside the 1-metre minimum distance, by breaking line of sight during the slow chain window, or by holding a pallet instead of dropping it.
What perks does Wesker teach? Awakened Awareness, Superior Anatomy and Terminus. Superior Anatomy and Terminus were both buffed on 17 June 2025, and Superior Anatomy is being reworked again in the 10.2.0 PTB.
How much does Wesker cost? 500 Auric Cells for the Killer on his own, or 11.99 US dollars and 1,500 Auric Cells for the full CHAPTER 25: Resident Evil PROJECT W DLC, which released on 30 August 2022 and also includes Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers. He is licensed, so there is no Iridescent Shard price.
Was Wesker buffed or nerfed in 2026? Buffed. Patch 9.5.0 refactored the power for responsiveness and desync, and Patch 9.6.0 shortened his recovery and token charge times while lengthening the chain window. Nothing has nerfed him since. The 10.2.0 PTB carries a Superior Anatomy rework plus two more Virulent Bound bug fixes, but Behaviour has published no live date for it.
