FC 27 Player Not Eligible for Evolution? Every Requirement That Blocks Your Card — and the 4 Traps You Can't Undo

You found the perfect Evolution. You open the player list, scroll your club, and the card you bought it for is simply not there — greyed out, filtered away, or flatly refused. Nothing in the UI explains why.

It is almost never a bug. FC 27 Evolutions check eight separate classes of entry condition, your card has to clear every single one, and four of them can be broken permanently by upgrades you already applied yourself.

Quick answer (TLDR): FC 27 Evolutions gate on up to eight things at once — max and min OVR, exact position, excluded positions, attribute ceilings, PlayStyle count, rarity/item type, club/league/nation, and prior Evolution history — and your card has to clear every one. The live Flank Identity Evo (hero image) shows five gates on a single free slot: Overall Max. 79, Position LM or LW, Must not be ST/CDM/LB, PlayStyles Max. 7, Pace Max. 85. Position lines read every listed position, so a multi-position card gets refused by a "Must not be" rule even when its primary position is right. Four blocks are self-inflicted and waiting won't fix them: a previous Evo pushed OVR above a max, a branch choice added an excluded position, a Pathway added a PlayStyle past the cap, or a Repeatable Evo's own upgrade broke its re-entry gate. Removing Evolutions is the only rollback, and per EA "Removing an Evolution is final and can't be undone." Watch both clocks — Get Within X Days to activate and Expires In X Days to finish — which EA says a slot "might have one, both, or neither" of.

This guide walks the full requirement list, shows you exactly how to read the Player Requirements panel before you commit, and ranks the four self-inflicted blocks by how expensive they are to fix.

Current FC 27 phase: Season 1 — Ones to Watch — running 17 September 2026 to 22 October 2026, per EA's Launch Rewards Pitch Notes. Season 2 begins 22 October 2026. Evolution line-ups rotate with the Season, so the specific Evos named here are the Season 1 set.

What does "not eligible" actually mean in FC 27?

There is no single "not eligible" error dialog. FC 27 hides ineligible cards instead of explaining them, which is why the state feels like a bug. You will see one of three things:

What you seeWhat it means
Card missing from the submit listIt fails at least one entry condition; the list is pre-filtered to eligible items only
Card visible but not selectableUsually an active-Evolution slot conflict, not an entry-condition failure
Evolution greyed out entirelyIts Get Within X Days activation window closed, entry cost unpaid, or you have no eligible item at all

EA's own support article is explicit that the check happens before submission, and that reading it is on you: "Check the Evolution requirements and any unlock cost before continuing" (EA Help — How EA SPORTS FC Ultimate Team Evolutions work).

The important half of that sentence is requirements, plural. A card is eligible only if it satisfies all of them simultaneously. One failed line hides the card, and the UI does not tell you which line failed.

What are all the FC 27 Evolution entry requirements?

Across the Season 1 Evo line-up, entry conditions fall into eight classes. Any individual Evolution uses some subset — Flank Identity uses five, the free Repeat Delivery training Evos use almost none.

Requirement classTypical wordingWhy it blocks you
Maximum OVR"Overall: Max. 79"The most common block by far — any prior upgrade can push you over
Minimum OVR"Overall: Min. 45"Rarer, used to exclude bronze filler from campaign Evos
Required position"Position: LM or LW"Reads the card's listed positions, not just the primary one
Excluded position"Must not be: ST, CDM or LB"The multi-position killer — see below
Attribute ceiling"Pace: Max. 85"Caps a stat so the Evo can't create an outlier; blocks premium fodder
PlayStyle count"PlayStyles: Max. 7"Special cards and evolved cards blow through this
Rarity / item typeRare, Gold, non-special, non-loanLoan items and some special rarities are excluded outright
Club / league / nation / genderLeague, nation or club lockCampaign and squad-themed Evos only

A ninth, quieter class sits on top: previous Evolution history. Some Evos refuse any item that has already been through a specific Evolution, or through any Evolution at all.

The community reference sites document the same taxonomy — FIFPlay's FC 27 Evolutions breakdown lists entry requirements as "Maximum or minimum overall rating… Required position or alternate position… Maximum values for selected attributes… Maximum number of PlayStyles or PlayStyles+… Specific rarity or item type… Club, league, nation, or gender requirements… Previous Evolution history", and adds the rule that matters: "A player must satisfy every listed condition before they can be submitted."

Why does a card with the right position still get refused?

This is the single most reported eligibility complaint on r/EASportsFC this week, and the answer is the "Must not be" line.

Look at the hero image above. Flank Identity asks for Position: LM or LW — and then separately states Must not be: ST, CDM or LB. Those are two different checks. A card listed as LW / ST passes the first line and fails the second. Its primary position is perfect. It is still ineligible.

Because FC 27 hands out extra positions freely — Position Evolutions exist specifically to add them, and all special items now carry Role++ familiarity in primary and secondary positions — the average card in your club has more listed positions than it did in FC 24. More listed positions means more surface area for a "Must not be" line to catch. One player summarised the frustration bluntly on r/EASportsFC on 1 October, calling the current Evos a waste of time because of how many have disqualifying positions when most cards have multiple positions.

That is a real design consequence, not a bug: the versatility FC 27 gives you is the same versatility that locks you out.

EA FC 27 Evolution player-selection screen for a Season 1 campaign Evolution showing the grid of eligible club players and an Overall Min. 45 entry gate

Note the gate on this Season 1 campaign Evolution: "Overall: Min. 45" — a minimum, not a maximum. Minimum-OVR Evos are the one case where a weak card is the problem rather than a strong one.

Which attribute ceilings catch people out?

Attribute caps are the second-biggest surprise, because nothing about a card's rating hints at them. Flank Identity's Pace: Max. 85 is the clearest live example: it exists so the Evo can hand out sprint speed without creating a 99-pace monster, and the side effect is that most of the obvious premium wide fodder is excluded before you start.

We measured this when the Evo launched: the 85 pace cap locks out a large share of the cards you would instinctively reach for, which is why the LM/LW 75–79 OVR band — over 350 eligible base cards at launch week per fut.gg's listing — is where the Evo is actually aimed. If you are shopping the market for an Evo target, filter on the capped attribute first, not on OVR.

Which blocks can you fix, and which are permanent?

Here is the honest split. Four of these you can solve with coins or patience. Four you cannot solve at all without destroying the upgrades you paid for.

The 4 traps you can't undo

1. Your own OVR upgrade locked you out of the next Evo. Every Evo that raises OVR moves your card toward the next Evo's maximum OVR ceiling. A 76 card evolved to 80 is permanently outside every "Max. 79" Evo for the rest of the year. This is the most common self-inflicted block in FC 27, and it compounds: the better your Evo chain, the smaller your future Evo pool.

2. A branch choice added a position you didn't want. FC 27's branching upgrade choices — EA calls the branching ones Pathways — frequently offer a new position as one side of the fork. Taking it is sometimes strictly worse than refusing it, because the position you gain can appear on a future Evo's "Must not be" list. EA's own Pathways example forks between dribbling plus a Technical PlayStyle and defensive awareness plus Jockey; forks that add positions carry the hidden cost.

3. A Pathway pushed you past the PlayStyle cap. FC 27 cut the maximum PlayStyle+ per item from five to three, and Evos hand out PlayStyles routinely. An Evo with "PlayStyles: Max. 7" will refuse a card you have already stacked. Count before you claim.

4. A Repeatable Evolution broke its own re-entry requirement. Repeatable Evos let you resubmit the same item, but EA's FC 27 Evolutions FAQ is conditional about it: "You can submit the same Player Item to the same Repeatable Evolution again if the Player Item still meets its entry requirements." When the Evo's own reward is an OVR bump and the Evo caps entry at a maximum OVR, the first run can push the card out of its own gate. Two more things EA spells out there: "Some Repeatable Evolutions can also have a cooldown", and on paid slots, "Paying for the slot gives you one entry, not every available repeat."

The rollback in all three destructive cases is the same, and EA is blunt about its finality: "Removing an Evolution is final and can't be undone." You can remove the last Evolution or all of them — including, per EA's FAQ, "an Evolution that's still in progress" — and the item returns to your Club — and the one genuine consolation is tradeability: "If your Player Item was tradeable before you applied any Evolutions, you can trade it again after you remove all Evolutions."

How do you check eligibility before you commit?

FC 27 gives you a real preview system. Use it; it is the difference between planning a chain and bricking a card.

  • Open the Evolution, don't open your club. Read the Player Requirements panel line by line. Note every "Max.", every "Min.", and especially every "Must not be".
  • Check both clocks by their in-game names. Get Within X Days is how long you have to activate the slot; Expires In X Days is how long you have to finish it. EA notes a slot "might have one, both, or neither", and if the expiry runs out you keep the levels you already completed and lose the rest.
  • Use Preview Evolution, then chain it. Select the Evo, select a player, hit Preview Evolution, then add another Evolution to the preview. Per EA: "When you add another Evolution to the preview, available Evolutions are filtered using the Player Item's resulting stats. This helps you check which Evolutions remain eligible and compare potential upgrade paths." That sentence is the whole answer to trap #1 — the preview tells you what you are about to lock yourself out of.
  • Don't claim the branch yet. Reward choices "can be changed at any time, and your choice is only locked when you complete the Evolution level and claim its rewards." Leave the fork open until you have previewed what each side does to your future eligibility.
  • Remember submission makes the card untradeable. "Once a Player is submitted to a standard Evolution slot, they become untradeable." Only full removal restores trading.

For the Season 1 specifics — which Evos are live, what each costs, and which cards clear the gates — see our FC 27 best Evolutions for Season 1 and the Flank Identity requirements and upgrade paths breakdowns. If you need the rollback mechanics in detail, how to remove an Evolution and make a card tradeable again covers the downgrade screen. Passive Evos have their own rules in the Training Camp Evolutions guide, and paid entry costs are compared in Evolution Store: coins vs FC Points.

What should you do differently for the rest of Season 1?

Three rules, in order of how much they save you.

Keep a fodder band, not a fodder pile. The Evos that matter in FC 27 cluster their max-OVR gates in the 75–82 range. Hold un-evolved cards inside that band rather than evolving everything you own the moment a free Evo appears. An un-evolved 78 is an option; an evolved 81 is a finished product.

Treat every OVR bump as spending eligibility. Before you claim a level that raises OVR, ask what it costs you in future entry. This is the trade-off nobody sees until it has already happened, and the chain preview is the only tool that shows it in advance.

Filter on the capped attribute first. When an Evo caps pace or physicality, that cap — not OVR — is what disqualifies the cards you would otherwise buy. Set the market filter to the cap before you shop.

Season 1 ends 22 October 2026, and the Evo line-up rotates with it. Any Evo you are holding a card for has a hard clock.

Short on coins to source a card that actually clears the gates? Sourcing an eligible 75–79 base card in the right position band is pure market work — and that's what we do.

A note we will always make plainly: EA's User Agreement prohibits buying, selling or transferring coins for real money, and enforcement can include coin removal, a transfer-market ban or an account ban. We use Comfort Trade with paced delivery and no bots, cheats or injectors — there is no such thing as zero risk, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something.

FAQ

Why is my player not showing up in the Evolution list in FC 27? Because the list is pre-filtered to eligible items and your card fails at least one entry condition. Work down the Player Requirements panel line by line, and check the "Must not be" positions line specifically — a card whose primary position is correct can still be excluded by a secondary position it also carries.

Can an Evolution make my player ineligible for other Evolutions? Yes, and this is the most expensive mistake in FC 27 Evos. Raising OVR can push the card past another Evo's maximum rating, a branch choice can add an excluded position, and stacked PlayStyles can exceed a PlayStyle cap. Use Preview Evolution and chain a second Evo into the preview — EA confirms the preview filters available Evolutions using the item's resulting stats, so it shows you what you are about to lose.

Can I undo an Evolution if I picked the wrong upgrade? You can remove the last Evolution applied or all of them, but EA states that "Removing an Evolution is final and can't be undone." You lose the upgrades. Before confirming, open the downgrade details to see exactly which upgrades disappear. Reward branch choices, by contrast, stay changeable until you complete the level and claim.

Does a card become tradeable again after I remove an Evolution? Yes, if it was tradeable to begin with. Per EA Help: "If your Player Item was tradeable before you applied any Evolutions, you can trade it again after you remove all Evolutions." Removing only the most recent Evolution is not enough — it has to be all of them. Note also that submitting a card to a standard Evolution slot makes it untradeable immediately.

Why does an Evolution have a minimum OVR instead of a maximum? Minimum-rating gates exist to keep bronze filler out of campaign Evolutions. The Season 1 campaign Evolution in the screenshot above asks for Overall Min. 45. These are much rarer than maximum-OVR caps, and they are the only case where your card is too weak rather than too strong.

Do Evolution requirements change when the Season rotates? The requirements of a given Evolution do not change, but the line-up does. Season 1 runs 17 September to 22 October 2026 and Season 2 starts 22 October, both EA-confirmed. Each Evolution can also carry two separate clocks — Get Within X Days to activate and Expires In X Days to finish — so an Evo can stop accepting new players well before it stops accepting progress. EA notes a slot might have "one, both, or neither".

Can I put an evolved player into a Repeatable Evolution again? Only if the item still meets the entry requirements after the first run. When the Evo's reward raises OVR and the Evo itself caps entry at a maximum OVR, the first completion can push the card out of its own gate — and some Repeatable Evos add a cooldown on top. Plan to use a fresh card for the second run.
