FC 27 Ultimate Team Guide for Late Starters: What to Do First in October (Before Season 1 Ends 22 Oct)

TLDR: starting FC 27 Ultimate Team late

Phase right now: FC 27 has been out worldwide since 25 September 2026. We're in the last 6 days of Season 1: Ones to Watch, which EA ends on Thursday 22 October 2026. New account: finish The Journey Begins → First Team Dreams → Rising Through the Ranks in Objectives. That one chain now unlocks both the Transfer Market and Champions, with access arriving within 24 hours on console or 48 hours on PC (EA Help). Returning player: if you earned Web App market access in FC 26, FC 25 or FC 24 before 1 August of that year, you probably skip the lock. FIFA 23 and older don't count. Today (16 Oct) EA delivers the Pre-Season Completionist carryover drop, and the last drop lands 23 Oct. Don't buy the Season 1 Premium Pass this week. The SP cap makes it close to useless. Spend these 6 days unlocking the market, banking coins in Squad Battles and Rivals, and claiming everything before the rollover.

EA SPORTS FC 27 is three weeks old, and the subreddits are filling with the same post in different words: haven't played since FIFA 20, haven't played since 22, never played FIFA, my partner got me into football, where do I start? If that's you, the launch-week guides won't help much. They were written for a game with an empty Transfer Market and a full season ahead. You're arriving with 6 days left in Season 1, prices already inflated, and an unlock process EA has quietly rewritten since launch.

This guide covers the order to do things in, checked against EA's own pages as of 16 October 2026: the rewritten Graduated Access help article, the Web and Companion App market rules, EA's own FUT for Beginners guide and the Launch Rewards Pitch Notes.

What changed for new FC 27 accounts since launch?

The unlock path changed. In launch week, EA's help article named a different set of Foundations objective groups as the Transfer Market gate, and our own Transfer Market locked guide was written against that version. The current article (header: "Updated 2 weeks ago") gives a cleaner three-step chain, and it now gates Champions too:

"If you're new to FC, you have to complete specific Objective Groups to access the Transfer Market and Champions." — EA Help, Graduated Access

FC 27 new account unlock path: The Journey Begins, First Team Dreams, Rising Through the Ranks, then a 24-hour or 48-hour wait

The steps, in EA's order:

  • Ultimate Team → Objectives → The Journey Begins. The first objective is to play a match of any type.
  • First Team Dreams unlocks once The Journey Begins is done.
  • Rising Through the Ranks unlocks once First Team Dreams is done. Finish it and the Transfer Market and Champions unlock.

Then comes the wait EA builds in: "you'll be granted full Transfer Market access within 48 hours if you play on PC, or 24 hours on other platforms." During that window you can list items but not search, bid or Buy Now. That's useful: list your tradeable duplicate golds and spare fodder while the timer runs, so they're selling by the time you can buy.

Champions works slightly differently. EA says you get access within the same 24/48 hours "if you've already met the other Champions entry requirements, including Division Rivals progression and Champions Qualification Points." In FC 27, CQP comes from Rivals and Squad Battles. EA's Launch Update Pitch Notes say "Squad Battles will also award Champions Qualification Points, giving PvE players a new way to work toward Champions qualification," and "The Division 6 requirement for Champions qualification has been removed." EA doesn't publish the CQP threshold, so read it off your own Champions tile.

The timing trick: start Rising Through the Ranks today. On console the 24-hour clock then runs out before the weekend, and you'll be buying with full access on Saturday. That leaves four days of real trading before Season 1 closes.

Do returning players skip the FC 27 Transfer Market lock?

Probably, if your last FUT season is recent enough. EA now publishes the FC 27 eligibility rule outright. Until recently it only existed as an FC 26-era line:

"You might be eligible for Transfer Market access on the Web and Companion Apps when FC 27 launches if: your EA Account is in good standing [and] you previously earned access in: FC 26 before August 1, 2026, FC 25 before August 1, 2025, FC 24 before August 1, 2024." — EA Help, Web & Companion Apps

The Graduated Access article adds that "If you're an eligible returning user in good standing, you can skip these steps—you'll already have access."

Which FC 27 returning players skip the Transfer Market lock: FC 26, FC 25 and FC 24 before 1 August cut-offs

Your last FUTDid you have Web App market access before...What happens in FC 27
FC 261 August 2026Likely skip both locks
FC 251 August 2025Likely skip both locks
FC 241 August 2024Likely skip both locks
FIFA 23 or older onlyn/a, not listed by EAEarn access from scratch
Never played FUTn/aEarn access from scratch

So the "haven't played since 22" crowd is in an awkward spot. If "22" means FIFA 22 or FIFA 23 and nothing since, EA's list doesn't cover you, and you go through the new-account path above. If it means you dropped FC 24 or FC 25 mid-year, check whether you had Web App market access before that 1 August cut-off.

If you earn it from scratch, there are two locks, not one. Finishing the objectives opens the in-game market only. EA says plainly that "Completing Graduated Access doesn't automatically unlock access on the Web and Companion apps." The app market runs on active days: three full Ultimate Team matches plus a Web or Companion App login in the same UTC calendar day. EA's examples are two active days for a clean account that's the only one on its device, and at least four if other UT accounts have been used on that device. Playing more than three matches a day doesn't speed it up. Log in to the app every day this week even if you never use it.

What should a late starter do in the first 6 days?

This is the order we'd run, ranked by what disappears first.

6Plan for the Season 2 PassA fresh track starts 22 Oct

1. Claim the carryover drop. If you played FC 26, today is a delivery day. EA's Launch Rewards table lists Pre-Season Completionist I–IV (an 81+ x3 Pack plus 10k coins) and the Pre-Season Completionist Group Reward (20k coins and an 83+ tradeable 1 of 3 Player Pick) for 16 October. If each of the four Completionist objectives pays its own 10k, a club that finished everything collects 60,000 coins today, plus the tradeable pick. EA's table lists I–IV as a single row, so check your own objectives. The final wave, 23 October, carries the Final Whistle rewards: a Base Anticipate PlayStyle Evo, a Base Pinged Pass PlayStyle Evo, a Shadow Striker++ Role++ upgrade for a CAM (max 83 OVR), another 81+ x3 pack, a tradeable 1 of 3 82+ Player Pick plus 10k coins and a 1 of 2 Base Hero loan pack. EA's rule: "log in to FC 27 Football Ultimate Team using the same EA Account and platform family you used to earn them in EA SPORTS FC 26." PlayStation rewards stay on PlayStation. Full background is in our FC 27 carryover rewards guide and the original FC 26 to FC 27 carryover list.

2. Pick your Starter Pack without overthinking it. New clubs open on a Choose Your League screen, and EA's beginner guide says "we recommend not sweating your Starter Pack choice." It does matter a little more than EA admits: it fixes your Foundations reward pool for that club, and the choice is permanent for the account. Pick the league pairing you actually want to build around (Premier League + WSL, LALIGA + Liga F, Bundesliga + Frauen-Bundesliga, or Ligue 1 + Arkema Première Ligue). Our starter team guide has the squad-building side.

3. Live in Squad Battles this week. EA recommends it for new players. It's also the most efficient mode for a late starter, because one match pays three currencies at once: post-match coins, Season Points and, new for FC 27, CQP. EA's beginner guide notes you can replay the Featured or TOTW squad "as many times as you wish" without burning a weekly competition match, and that Squad Battles counts for "most general Objectives", including the Academy Grind Evolution.

How many coins can you realistically earn before Season 2?

More than in any recent FUT, but the market is more expensive too. Both halves come from EA.

On earnings, the Launch Update says: "Compared to the roughly 500 to 600 FUT Coins typically earned from a match in EA SPORTS FC 26, Champions and Rivals will have the potential to reward several times more Coins, while Squad Battles will also see an increase." EA never published the multiplier, so treat any per-match figure you read online as a community estimate.

On prices, the FUT team wrote this in its Developer Launch Update:

"Coin balances are more than 50% higher than at the same point last year and we're seeing plenty of Transfer Market activity. We're also seeing a higher share of Starting XI players being acquired directly through the Transfer Market." — FC FUT Development Team

That's the late starter's problem in one quote. Everyone who started on 18 or 25 September has had three weeks of those bigger payouts, and meta cards are priced for those bigger balances. We broke down what that does to prices in FC 27 Coins: EA Says Balances Are 50% Higher. The practical rules:

  • Don't buy the meta striker first. Buy the cheap links that make your packed players playable, and let the expensive slot wait for a promo dip. Our weekly market cycle guide covers the days prices usually soften.
  • Sell before you SBC. EA's beginner guide says "putting a Player Item in an SBC is just like selling it". If a card sells for more than the SBC reward is worth to you, sell it.
  • Use the Gallery instead of hoarding. EA confirms that a sold item still counts: "Even if you wind up putting a Player Item on the Transfer Market or quicksell it, it will remain as a part of your club's history for use in the FUT Gallery." You don't need to keep cards to grade Sets. See our FUT Gallery explainer.

Should you buy the Season 1 Premium Pass now?

No. Six days are not enough to use it. EA caps match Season Points: "between 15 & 100 Season Points per eligible match depending on result and mode, up to 850 Season Points per day." Six days at the cap is 5,100 SP. Levels cost roughly 1,000 SP each (community-tracked; EA doesn't publish a per-level figure), so match play alone moves a brand-new pass about five levels before it resets on 22 October. Objectives add more, but a late starter is not reaching the late-tier Premium rewards in time.

The Season 2 pass starts fresh on 22 October and runs to 3 December 2026, which gives you six weeks instead of six days. If you want a Premium Pass, that's the one to buy. Our Season 1 SP math shows how tight Season 1 was even for players who started on day one.

What is worth finishing before Thursday: any Season 1 objective you can clear in one or two sessions, since unfinished objectives expire, and your Rivals weekly target. Season 1's last Rivals payout is the division you finish in, and EA says that at season end "all competitors will be dropped from the Division that you previously finished in." Our Season 1 rollover guide lists everything that expires.

What are players getting wrong in week 4?

Three patterns from r/EASportsFC and r/fut this week (paraphrased, no handles):

  • "My carryover didn't arrive." In today's Pre-Season rewards thread, several players who finished FC 26's season said they never received the 9 October wave (82+ x7 plus the Base Quick Step Evo), while others got it the previous Friday. One commenter thought claiming level 30 in-game rather than on the Web App might be the difference; nobody confirmed it. Another pointed out that FC 26's Season 10 page and FC 27's Launch Rewards table show different dates for the same items. Use the FC 27 Launch Rewards table, since it's EA's newer source. EA itself warns "It may take some time for all eligible rewards to appear in your account", so give it a day before you raise a ticket.
  • "I forgot what I did in FC 26." Very common. Carryover only pays for objectives you actually finished, so a missing reward is often one you skipped.
  • Returning players expecting their old club. FUT clubs don't carry between titles. Carryover rewards and Rivals legacy placement do. EA: "When you first start playing Rivals, you'll begin in Division 10, but if you played the previous EA SPORTS FC title, your previous legacy placement will be taken into account."

What's coming in the next week?

  • Fri 16 Oct: Pre-Season Completionist carryover drop (EA-dated). Future Stars Team 2 is widely expected at 17:00 UTC, the usual promo slot. EA hasn't dated it, so treat the time as community-reported. Our Future Stars Team 2 breakdown covers the leaked names and the upgrade caps.
  • Thu 22 Oct: Season 1 ends and Season 2 starts (EA-dated). Rivals weekly rewards release at 06:59 UTC that morning.
  • Fri 23 Oct: Final Whistle carryover drop (EA-dated).

For free upgrades to the cards you already own, check the Evolutions tab before you spend coins. Our best Evolutions this week ranks the live ones, and the Unfinished SBC guide explains what you get back if you stall on a big SBC.

Starting three weeks behind? If you'd rather be competitive this weekend than spend Season 1's last six days grinding Squad Battles, our FC 27 team can top up your club with coins at a safe, paced rate, clear Evolutions for you, or play your Champions run.

What hasn't EA published?

  • The CQP threshold for Champions Play-Offs, and how many CQP a Squad Battles or Rivals match pays.
  • A per-level Season Point cost. The ~1,000 SP figure comes from community trackers.
  • A carryover claim deadline for FC 27. The "redeem within one month" rule comes from EA's FC 26-era wording. Claim the moment rewards land.
  • An exact Season 1 rollover time. EA gives the date (22 October) only. Community trackers put the flip at the Thursday 06:59 UTC weekly reset.

FAQ

Is it too late to start FC 27 Ultimate Team in October? No. FUT runs five seasons through 8 April 2027, and EA's beginner guide says the Foundations objectives walk you through "most of the Ultimate Team experience" while paying packs, players and coins. You'll miss the last of Season 1's rewards, but Season 2 starts fresh on 22 October.

Why is my FC 27 Transfer Market still locked? On a new account you need to finish The Journey Begins, First Team Dreams and Rising Through the Ranks, then wait up to 24 hours (48 on PC). The Web and Companion App market is a separate lock that needs active days: three full UT matches plus an app login in the same UTC day.

I played FIFA 22 or FIFA 23. Do I skip Graduated Access? Not according to EA's current list. It covers market access earned in FC 26, FC 25 or FC 24 before 1 August of each year, so older titles don't qualify.

Does Squad Battles count towards FUT Champions in FC 27? Yes. EA's Launch Update confirms Squad Battles awards Champions Qualification Points. The Division 6 requirement is gone, though higher Rivals divisions earn CQP faster.

When do FC 26 carryover rewards arrive in FC 27? EA lists 2, 9, 16 and 23 October 2026. Today's wave (16 Oct) is the Pre-Season Completionist set, and 23 Oct is the Final Whistle set. Same EA Account and platform family only.

Should I buy the FC 27 Season 1 Premium Pass now? No. With 850 SP a day as the match cap and six days left, a new pass moves about five levels. Buy the Season 2 pass on 22 October if you want one.
