Most Dahlia build guides tell you to stack Max HP. That is correct and it is also useless, because the single most important number in his kit is a ceiling, not a slope. His fourth ascension passive stops paying out at a specific Max HP value, and almost nobody states what that value is.
This guide works it out. Every talent number below is quoted from Dahlia's in-game talent text; every total is arithmetic on top of those numbers and is labelled as derived. It applies to Version 7.1 Phase 2, which HoYoverse revealed on October 8, 2026.
Quick answer: build Dahlia for Max HP, but only up to 40,000 Max HP — that is where his Prayer of Well-Wrought Joy passive hits its 20% ATK SPD cap and stops scaling. At Level 90 with 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith and HP% on sands, goblet and circlet, he reaches 40,272 Max HP with zero useful substats, so the cap is free. Past 40,000 the ATK SPD is done, but Max HP still grows his shield, which absorbs Hydro damage at 250% effectiveness. Both Version 7.1 Phase 2 banners feature a Cryo five-star, which is the whole reason Dahlia is reprinted now.
Who is Dahlia and why is he on both Phase 2 banners?
Dahlia is a four-star Hydro sword user from Mondstadt, affiliated with the Church of Favonius, titled "Ode and Oblation." His in-game role tags are Off-Field and Survivability — he is a shielder and a party buffer, not a damage dealer.
HoYoverse's own event wish announcement for Version 7.1 Phase 2 lists him on both banners at once. "Void Star's Advent" boosts the drop rate of "Void Star" Skirk (Cryo), and "La Chanson Cerise" boosts "Tasteful Excellence" Escoffier (Cryo). Both announcements carry the identical line: the four-star characters "Ode and Oblation" Dahlia (Hydro), "Golden Vow" Candace (Hydro), and "Coordinates of Clear Frost" Mika (Cryo) will receive a huge drop-rate boost.
Both wishes run 2026/10/13 18:00 – 2026/11/03 14:59 server time.
That pairing is not a coincidence. Dahlia's first ascension passive pays out on Frozen reactions, and Frozen needs Hydro plus Cryo. Putting him on two Cryo banners is HoYoverse telling you what the team is.
What does Dahlia's kit actually do?
Three pieces matter, and they chain.
Elemental Burst — Radiant Psalter. Deals area Hydro damage, grants party members Favonian Favor, and summons a Shield of Sacred Favor. The shield's absorption is based on Dahlia's Max HP and it absorbs Hydro damage with 250% effectiveness. Energy cost 60, cooldown 15s, Favonian Favor duration 12s.
Benison stacks. While Favonian Favor is active, one Benison stack is consumed to re-summon a shield when the current one breaks. Dahlia gains a stack when the active character lands 4 Normal Attacks under Favonian Favor, or from his first ascension passive. He can hold a maximum of 4 Benison stacks per Favonian Favor duration.
Elemental Skill — Immersive Ordinance. Tap or hold to place a Sacramental Shower. Cooldown 9s. It applies 1 Gauge Unit of Hydro; the Burst applies 2 Gauge Units.
First ascension passive, The Wind's Gentle Grace. Characters under Favonian Favor who trigger Frozen grant Dahlia 2 Benison stacks, once every 8s.
Fourth ascension passive, Prayer of Well-Wrought Joy. The active party member under Favonian Favor gains ATK SPD scaled on Dahlia's Max HP: every 1,000 Max HP gives 0.5%, up to a maximum of 20%.
That last sentence is the build. Twenty percent divided by half a percent per thousand is forty thousand. The cap is 40,000 Max HP. Derived, but it is one division.
How much Max HP do you need, exactly?
Dahlia's base HP at Level 90 is 12,506, and his ascension bonus stat is 24% HP at maximum ascension. A five-star Level 20 flower rolls a flat 4,780 HP main stat, and a five-star Level 20 HP% main stat on sands, goblet or circlet is 46.6%.
Three HP% main stats is therefore 139.8% before anything else. Here is what each common setup lands on. All totals below are derived from those published main-stat maxima and assume no substats at all.
| Setup | Total HP% bonus | Max HP | Caps ATK SPD? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4pc Tenacity of the Millelith, 3 HP% mains | 183.8% | 40,272 | Yes, with zero substats |
| 4pc Noblesse Oblige, 3 HP% mains | 163.8% | 37,771 | No — 2,229 short |
| 4pc Noblesse + The Dockhand's Assistant | 205.1% | 42,936 | Yes |
| 4pc Tenacity + Key of Khaj-Nisut | 250.0% | 48,551 | Yes, with headroom |
The Tenacity of the Millelith two-piece bonus is +20% HP, which is exactly the margin that makes the difference. On Tenacity you clear 40,000 before you have rolled a single good substat. On Noblesse Oblige you need roughly 17.8% HP% from substats — about three maximum HP% rolls — or an HP% weapon, which is why the weapon choice below is not interchangeable.
This is the practical rule: on 4-piece Tenacity, stop caring about Max HP once you are past 40,000 and spend remaining substats on Energy Recharge. On any other set, keep stacking HP% until you clear it.
Which artifacts should Dahlia use?
4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith is the default, and it is better on him than it looks. The two-piece +20% HP does the breakpoint work. The four-piece, when the Elemental Skill hits an opponent, gives all nearby party members +20% ATK and +30% Shield Strength for 3 seconds — and that Shield Strength line stacks on top of his own shield, which no other common support set does.
There is an honest caveat here that most guides skip. The Tenacity four-piece requires the Elemental Skill to hit an opponent. Dahlia's Sacramental Shower only detonates when an opponent or a party member touches it, so the four-piece buff is placement-conditional — it is not guaranteed uptime the way it is on a character who throws a skill directly at a target. If your rotation keeps leaving the Shower untouched, the four-piece is doing nothing and you are effectively running a two-piece.
4-piece Noblesse Oblige is the alternative when you want the party-wide +20% ATK and you can feed him enough HP% substats or an HP% weapon. It does not reach the breakpoint on its own.
Main stats in all cases: HP flat on flower, ATK flat on plume, HP% or Energy Recharge on sands, HP% on goblet, HP% on circlet. Substat priority: Energy Recharge, then HP%, then nothing else matters much — he has no damage role to optimise for.
Which weapon is best for Dahlia?
He is a sword user, and the only weapon statline that interacts with his kit is HP%.
Key of Khaj-Nisut (five-star, 66.2% HP% at Level 90) is the ceiling, and if you own one it is already on a different character. The Dockhand's Assistant (four-star, 41.3% HP%) is the realistic pick and it single-handedly solves the Noblesse Oblige shortfall. A Favonius Sword is the Energy Recharge answer instead of the HP answer — it does nothing for the breakpoint but it helps him actually have his Burst up.
Version 7.1 Phase 2 also runs an "Epitome Invocation" weapon wish featuring Azurelight (Sword) and Symphonist of Scents (Polearm), per the official announcement. Azurelight is a damage sword and is not a Dahlia weapon; mentioning it here only so you do not pull the weapon banner thinking it supports this build.
How big is the shield, really?
At Burst talent Level 9, the Shield of Sacred Favor absorbs 5.71% of Max HP + 658. Running that against the Max HP totals above gives these derived figures:
| Max HP | Shield absorption | Versus Hydro (250%) |
|---|---|---|
| 40,272 | 2,958 | 7,395 |
| 42,936 | 3,110 | 7,775 |
| 48,551 | 3,430 | 8,575 |
Those are not enormous numbers in isolation — and that is the point people miss. The shield is not meant to be a single large wall like a five-star shielder's. It is meant to be re-summoned, which is what Benison stacks are for. Four stacks per Favonian Favor duration means up to four extra shields inside a 12-second window.
This is also why Max HP past 40,000 is not wasted, it is just differently valuable: the ATK SPD is capped, but the shield keeps growing linearly, and against Hydro it grows at 250%.
What are Dahlia's best teams?
The Phase 2 answer is the obvious one, and for once the obvious one is correct: Dahlia plus a Cryo damage dealer.
Dahlia applies Hydro from his Skill and Burst, the Cryo character freezes, Frozen triggers The Wind's Gentle Grace, and Dahlia gets 2 Benison stacks on an 8-second internal cooldown. Favonian Favor lasts 12 seconds, so a Frozen trigger at t=0 and another at t=8 fits inside one window — 2 triggers × 2 stacks = 4 stacks, which is the per-duration maximum, with zero Normal Attacks required. Derived from the stated 8s cooldown and 12s duration.
That makes Skirk and Escoffier, the two Phase 2 five-stars, his natural partners. It also makes Mika, the other featured four-star on both banners, a budget Cryo body you are pulling anyway.
The honest caveat: Dahlia's Hydro application is bursty, not sustained. One gauge unit on a 9-second skill cooldown and two on a 15-second burst cooldown is not an aura. Your Frozen uptime depends on the Cryo character's own application rate, not on Dahlia's. If your Cryo unit applies poorly, you will not hit two Frozen triggers per window and the passive loop quietly halves.
If you are deciding between the two Phase 2 five-stars first, our Skirk vs Escoffier comparison covers that call, and the individual pages are Skirk build and Escoffier build.
Which constellations are worth it?
Dahlia is a four-star, so constellations arrive as a byproduct of pulling for the five-star, not as a target. Ranked by what they actually change:
C4, Collect of the Assembly — Favonian Favor lasts 3 more seconds. This is the one that matters. Favonian Favor's base duration is 12s and the Burst cooldown is 15s, which leaves a 3-second gap at C0. C4 closes it exactly, taking him to 100% uptime. Derived, but it is a subtraction.
C1, Infallible Procession — 2.5 Elemental Energy per Benison stack gained. At the 4-stack maximum that is 10 Energy per rotation against a 60-cost Burst, which meaningfully loosens his Energy Recharge requirement.
C2, Revelation of Mercy — +25% Shield Strength for 12s on the shielded character after a Benison re-summon. On the 40,272 build that turns a 2,958 shield into 3,698.
C6, You Shall Go Out With Joy — +10% ATK SPD on top of the capped 20%, plus a once-per-15-minutes revive at full HP.
C3 and C5 are talent level increases, which is why C4 rather than C6 is the real target.
Should you pull for Dahlia?
No — and this is not a close call.
There is no four-star pity in Genshin Impact. Four-star copies are a byproduct of pulling the banner, not something you can aim at. The community consensus on this is blunt; one of the most upvoted replies in the Version 7.1 Phase 2 discussion thread put it as "Dont pull for a 4 star if you dont want the 5 star on banner."
Pull for Skirk or Escoffier if you want them. Dahlia will arrive on the way, and if he does not, he is not worth the primogems on his own. If you are unclear on how the guarantee works, we wrote the pity system explained, and the full Phase 1 and Phase 2 timings are in the October 2026 banner schedule.
What do you need to ascend him?
Ascending Dahlia from unascended to maximum costs 420,000 Mora in ascension fees, 46 Secret Source Airflow Accumulator (his boss material), 168 Calla Lily (Mondstadt local specialty), and the Varunada Lazurite gem line — 1 Sliver, 9 Fragment, 9 Chunk, 6 Gemstone — plus the Arrowhead drop line: 18 Firm, 30 Sharp, 36 Weathered.
Calla Lily is the bottleneck for most players, since 168 of them is several respawn cycles. Start farming before the banner opens on October 13 rather than after. If you are short on resin funding generally, how to get primogems fast covers the income side.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Max HP cap for Dahlia's ATK SPD passive? 40,000 Max HP. Prayer of Well-Wrought Joy gives 0.5% ATK SPD per 1,000 Max HP up to a maximum of 20%, and 20 divided by 0.5 is 40.
Does Max HP past 40,000 do anything for Dahlia? Yes, but only for the shield. The ATK SPD buff is capped, while the Shield of Sacred Favor's absorption keeps scaling with Max HP — and absorbs Hydro damage at 250% effectiveness.
Is Tenacity of the Millelith or Noblesse Oblige better on Dahlia? Tenacity, in most cases. Its 2-piece +20% HP is what pushes him past 40,000 Max HP on main stats alone. Noblesse Oblige needs roughly 17.8% HP% from substats or an HP% weapon to reach the same breakpoint.
What is Dahlia's best weapon? Key of Khaj-Nisut if you own one, otherwise The Dockhand's Assistant for its 41.3% HP%, or a Favonius Sword if your problem is Energy rather than Max HP.
Which banners is Dahlia on in Version 7.1 Phase 2? Both of them. He is a featured four-star on "Void Star's Advent" (Skirk) and "La Chanson Cerise" (Escoffier), running 2026/10/13 18:00 to 2026/11/03 14:59.
Is Dahlia worth pulling for? Not on his own. There is no four-star pity, so you cannot target him. Pull the banner for Skirk or Escoffier and treat Dahlia copies as a bonus.
What is Dahlia's best constellation? C4, Collect of the Assembly. It adds 3 seconds to Favonian Favor, which exactly closes the 3-second gap between its 12-second duration and his 15-second Burst cooldown.
