Genshin Escoffier Team Guide: Best Comps for Her Version 7.1 Rerun

Almost every Escoffier team guide opens with the same number: 55 percent resistance shred. Almost none of them tell you that against a standard enemy, going from three Hydro or Cryo party members to four is worth about 19 percent more damage, not 40.

Quick answer. Escoffier's second passive talent, Inspiration-Immersed Seasoning, reduces enemy Hydro and Cryo RES by 5, 10, 15 or 55 percent depending on whether your party contains 1, 2, 3 or 4 Hydro or Cryo characters. That is a cliff, not a curve — and because Genshin halves the benefit of negative resistance, the jump from the 15 percent tier to the 55 percent tier is a 19.5 percent damage increase against a 10 percent RES target, not a 40-point one. The reason you still take it is that the exact same party rule simultaneously switches on Skirk's third Death's Crossing stack (+41.7 percent to her Normal Attacks), a second Elemental Resonance, Skirk's party-wide Skill level bonus, and Escoffier's own Constellation 1. Stack those and the fourth Hydro or Cryo body is worth roughly 69 percent on a Skirk carry. Outside a Skirk team it is worth far less, and that is the part nobody says out loud.

Escoffier reruns on "La Chanson Cerise" from 2026/10/13 18:00 to 2026/11/03 14:59 Server Time, alongside Skirk's "Void Star's Advent", per HoYoverse in-game announcements 21888 and 21889. This guide applies to Version 7.1, "A Rekviem for the Underworld".

Why does every Escoffier team need four Hydro or Cryo characters?

Her second passive talent reads, verbatim:

"When there are 1/2/3/4 Hydro or Cryo characters in the party, Escoffier will decrease the Hydro RES and Cryo RES of any opponents hit by her Elemental Skill, Low-Temperature Cooking, or her Elemental Burst, Scoring Cuts, by 5%/10%/15%/55% for 12s."

Read the ladder carefully. The first three rungs are 5, 10 and 15; the fourth is 55. There is no smooth progression — 40 of the 55 points arrive in one step, and that step only fires when all four party slots are Hydro or Cryo. Escoffier is Cryo, so by plain reading of the talent she is one of the four. The practical constraint is that you need three more Hydro or Cryo characters next to her.

This is also why "Escoffier gives 55 percent resistance shred" is the most repeated half-truth about her. In a team with one Anemo support, she gives 15.

How much damage is the fourth Hydro or Cryo slot actually worth?

Resistance in Genshin does not convert into damage linearly. The game applies a RES multiplier in three intervals, documented on the Genshin Impact Wiki's RES page:

  • RES below 0: multiplier is 1 − (RES ÷ 2)
  • RES from 0 up to 0.75: multiplier is 1 − RES
  • RES of 0.75 and above: multiplier is 1 ÷ (4 × RES + 1)

The middle clause is the one everyone assumes applies. It does not, once you shred past zero. Below zero, resistance shred is halved. The wiki's own worked example makes this explicit: an enemy at 10 percent RES has a 0.9 multiplier, and swirling with Viridescent Venerer for −40 percent takes it to −30 percent RES, which yields 1.15 rather than 1.30.

Most enemies sit at 10 percent elemental RES — hilichurls, abyss mages, ruin machines, slimes and hypostases all share that figure on the wiki's enemy RES table, though slimes and hypostases are immune to their own element. Run Escoffier's ladder against that baseline:

  • No Escoffier: 10 percent RES, multiplier 0.90
  • 1 Hydro/Cryo member (5 percent shred): 5 percent RES, multiplier 0.95
  • 2 members (10 percent): 0 percent RES, multiplier 1.00
  • 3 members (15 percent): −5 percent RES, multiplier 1.025
  • 4 members (55 percent): −45 percent RES, multiplier 1.225

The honest numbers, derived from those multipliers:

  • Three members to four members: 1.225 ÷ 1.025 = +19.5 percent damage
  • No shred at all to the full 55 percent tier: 1.225 ÷ 0.90 = +36.1 percent
  • No shred to the 15 percent tier: 1.025 ÷ 0.90 = +13.9 percent

The step is real and large — 19.5 percent beats a good artifact piece — but it is not what "40 extra points of shred" implies. Any guide claiming the fourth slot nearly doubles your damage has skipped the halving rule.

Why does the element lock pay roughly double in a Skirk team?

The part that actually justifies the restriction has nothing to do with Escoffier. Skirk's fourth-ascension passive, Return to Oblivion, grants her a stack of "Death's Crossing" for 20 seconds whenever a nearby Hydro party member lands a Hydro attack, or a nearby non-Skirk Cryo party member lands a Cryo attack. The text caps it at 3 stacks, and each character can grant at most one. Each stack level sets her in-mode Normal Attack damage to 110 / 120 / 170 percent of its original value, and her Burst Havoc: Ruin to 105 / 115 / 160 percent.

Those are set-to multipliers, not additive bonuses, and the distribution is brutally front-loaded at the top. Going from two stacks to three is 170 ÷ 120 = +41.7 percent on her Normal Attacks and 160 ÷ 115 = +39.1 percent on her Burst. The first two stacks together are worth +20 points; the third alone is worth +50. Each stack also adds 10/20/40 percent ATK, which the figures below leave out.

Because each character grants at most one stack, the third requires three distinct Hydro or Cryo partners — the identical roster condition that unlocks Escoffier's 55 percent tier.

They stack multiplicatively. On a Skirk hypercarry, making the fourth slot Hydro or Cryo instead of anything else is worth:

1.195 × 1.417 = 1.693, or roughly +69 percent on her Normal Attack damage.

On her Burst the same swap is 1.195 × 1.391 = +66 percent. That is the real argument for the mono-Hydro/Cryo lock, and it is a Skirk argument, not an Escoffier one — see our Skirk build guide for how to kit her out for it.

What do you give up by slotting an Anemo support instead?

The standard objection is Viridescent Venerer: its 4-piece bonus cuts an opponent's RES to the swirled element by 40 percent for 10 seconds, so an Anemo unit swirling Cryo looks like a drop-in for Escoffier's fourth tier.

Grant that argument its most generous possible reading — assume Viridescent Venerer's 40 percent stacks cleanly on top of Escoffier's 15 percent tier, for the same 55 total. The resistance maths then comes out identical: 1.225 either way.

You still lose Skirk's third Death's Crossing stack. That is 120 ÷ 170 = a 29.4 percent cut to her Normal Attack damage, and the Anemo unit has to make all of it back through its own buffs and grouping before the swap breaks even. On most teams an Anemo flex is the correct call. On Skirk specifically, it is an unusually expensive one.

Which Elemental Resonance should an Escoffier team run?

This is where 2 Cryo + 2 Hydro quietly beats 3 Cryo + 1 Hydro, and almost no team guide mentions it.

The wiki's Team Bonus page states that Resonance effects "depend on the elements of the first four party members", that "each Resonance requires two or more characters of the same element among the first four party slots", and — crucially — that "having more than two characters of the same element does not further enhance the corresponding Resonance."

Escoffier and Skirk are both Cryo. That already satisfies Shattering Ice: "Affected by Electro for 40% less time. Increases CRIT Rate against enemies that are Frozen or affected by Cryo by 15%." A third Cryo unit adds nothing to it.

Make the remaining two slots both Hydro and you additionally collect Soothing Water: "Affected by Pyro for 40% less time. Increases Max HP by 25%." Two resonances for the price of one roster decision.

There is a third bonus hiding in Skirk's utility passive, Mutual Weapons Mentorship: "When all party members are either Hydro or Cryo, and if there is at least 1 Hydro and 1 Cryo character, your own party members' Elemental Skill Level is increased by 1." Note the second clause — a four-Cryo team fails this passive outright. You need at least one Hydro to collect a free party-wide Skill level.

And if you own Escoffier's Constellation 1, Pre-Dinner Dance for Your Taste Buds, it grants the party +60 percent Cryo DMG CRIT DMG for 15 seconds after her Skill or Burst — but only with 4 Hydro or Cryo party members, and only if her second passive is already unlocked. Same condition, fourth payout.

So the fourth slot is not buying you 19.5 percent. On a Skirk team with a Hydro unit in it, it is buying you the 19.5 percent shred step, the 41.7 percent Death's Crossing step, a second Resonance, a party-wide Skill level, and the entire value of C1.

What are the best Escoffier teams in Version 7.1?

Skirk / Escoffier / Furina / Citlali — the benchmark. Escoffier shreds and heals, Furina supplies the damage bonus and the Hydro body, Citlali adds Cryo and defensive shred. Three Cryo, one Hydro: full 55 percent tier, Shattering Ice, Skirk's Skill level passive.

Skirk / Escoffier / Furina / Vodyanitsa — the 2 Cryo + 2 Hydro version, available since Vodyanitsa's release on 2026-09-23. Same 55 percent tier, same Death's Crossing cap, but it also collects Soothing Water, which matters a great deal if Furina is driving your Fanfare stacks off Max HP.

Skirk / Escoffier / Shenhe / Furina — Shenhe's Cryo damage bonus is the biggest single buff available to a Cryo carry, at the cost of dropping to one Hydro.

Neuvillette / Escoffier / Furina / Citlali — the Hydro-carry version. Note that Escoffier's shred covers Hydro RES as well as Cryo, so Neuvillette benefits from the same ladder. The theorycrafting community is split: KQM's full English guide rates mono-Freeze below hypercarry, while its quick guide puts Freeze with Escoffier, Furina or Citlali on par with hypercarry and ahead in single-target at C0. The full guide still prints pre-Lunar passive text and never mentions Vodyanitsa, so treat the quick guide as current — but this is two credible readings, not settled consensus.

Free-to-play shell: Escoffier / Xingqiu / Diona / Layla or Charlotte — four Hydro or Cryo bodies from the 4-star pool. The 55 percent tier does not care about rarity.

Which 4-star characters can fill the last two slots?

Conveniently, the Phase 2 banners hand you the exact bodies you need. Announcements 21888 and 21889 both name the featured 4-stars as Dahlia (Hydro), Candace (Hydro) and Mika (Cryo) — all three Hydro or Cryo, and two of them the Hydro units that turn a 3 + 1 team into a double-resonance 2 + 2.

Beyond the banner, the reliable fillers are Xingqiu (Hydro, off-field Hydro application), Kokomi or Mona (Hydro), Diona (Cryo shielder and healer), Charlotte (Cryo healer), Layla (Cryo shielder) and Qiqi (Cryo healer). All count for the ladder, and none need to be built well — the passive checks party composition, not damage. Escoffier herself still does, and her artifacts and weapon are covered in our Escoffier build guide.

This is the cheap part of the comp, and community advice runs the other way. On an r/Genshin_Impact team-building thread this week the top replies were "remember kids, escoffier is a better investment compared to skirk signature weapon" and "Generally supports are more important than DPS" — with a third player telling someone without Escoffier to run "Skirk-Xingqiu-Mona-Qiqi" in the meantime. The element count is what the kit reads. Rarity is not.

When can you pull Escoffier in Version 7.1?

Her rerun wish, "La Chanson Cerise", runs 2026/10/13 18:00 to 2026/11/03 14:59 Server Time, per in-game announcement 21889. Skirk's "Void Star's Advent" runs in the same window, announcement 21888. Both are Server Time, so the window is reached at each region's own clock rather than as one global instant. Phase 1 — Vesna and Vodyanitsa — closes 2026/10/13 17:59.

Because both run concurrently, there is no sequencing trick: one Primogem budget, two banners, and you are choosing between them rather than planning around a gap. See our October 2026 Genshin banner schedule and Skirk or Escoffier: which to pull.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Escoffier's 55 percent resistance shred really worth 55 percent more damage? No. Against a standard 10 percent RES enemy the full tier takes you from a 0.90 damage multiplier to 1.225, which is +36.1 percent over no shred at all, and +19.5 percent over the 15 percent tier. Negative resistance is halved by the game's RES formula.

Can I run Escoffier with an Anemo support like Kazuha? You can, and on most carries it is fine. On Skirk it costs you her third Death's Crossing stack, which is a 29.4 percent reduction to her Normal Attack damage even if you assume Viridescent Venerer's shred stacks perfectly with Escoffier's.

Should my Escoffier team be 3 Cryo plus 1 Hydro or 2 Cryo plus 2 Hydro? Prefer 2 and 2 where the characters allow it. A third Cryo adds nothing to Shattering Ice, while a second Hydro adds Soothing Water's 25 percent Max HP on top. A four-Cryo team also fails Skirk's Mutual Weapons Mentorship passive, which requires at least one Hydro.

Does Escoffier work in a Neuvillette team? Yes — her passive reduces Hydro RES as well as Cryo RES, so a Hydro carry gets the same ladder. KQM's two Neuvillette guides disagree on how that Freeze shell ranks against hypercarry, so treat it as a live debate rather than a solved one.

Can a free-to-play account build a proper Escoffier team? Yes. The passive checks element, not rarity. Xingqiu, Diona, Charlotte, Layla and Qiqi all satisfy the ladder, and Dahlia, Candace and Mika are all rate-boosted on both Phase 2 wishes. Her own healing scales off ATK — Rehab Diet restores 138.24 percent of her ATK per second for 9 seconds after her Burst — so support slots cost you very little investment.
