Genshin Candace Build: Best Artifacts, Weapons, Teams and the Burst Level Trap

Nearly every Candace build guide tells you to take her Elemental Burst to level 9. That advice is wrong, and her own talent table proves it.

Quick answer. Candace's Burst grants a flat 20 percent DMG Bonus at talent level 1 and the same flat 20 percent at level 13, so levelling it only raises her personal chip damage, never the party buff. Build her for Max HP instead: her fourth ascension passive scales with Max HP and carries no printed ceiling. Run 4-piece Noblesse Oblige with a Black Tassel, HP percent on Sands, Goblet and Circlet, and no Crown of Insight.

Every talent number below comes from her in-game talent text; totals built on them are derived.

Why Candace is worth building on October 9, 2026

Candace is a featured 4-star on both Version 7.1 Phase 2 Event Wishes. HoYoverse's in-game announcements 21888 and 21889 list "Golden Vow" Candace (Hydro) on "Void Star's Advent" ("Void Star" Skirk) and on "La Chanson Cerise" ("Tasteful Excellence" Escoffier), alongside Dahlia (Hydro) and Mika (Cryo).

Both wishes run from 2026/10/13 18:00 to 2026/11/03 14:59 Server Time. That is a per-server local time, not a single global instant, so use the live countdown in your own client. Announcement 21888 also states that "the wish guarantee count for 'Character Event Wish' and 'Character Event Wish-2' is shared" — see our pity system explainer.

One caveat separates Candace from the other featured 4-stars: she has been in the Standard Wish Wanderlust Invocation (indefinite) since Version 3.2. You do not pull for Candace, you accumulate her — these banners just boost her rate for three weeks, the cheapest window in months to finish her constellations. What Candace's talent text actually says

Candace is a 4-star Hydro Polearm user from Aaru Village, Sumeru, released on September 28, 2022, and listed as an Off-Field Support.

Elemental Skill, Sacred Rite: Heron's Sanctum. Tapping rushes forward for Hydro DMG. Holding raises a barrier that "absorbs DMG based on her Max HP and absorbs Hydro DMG 250 percent more effectively". It generates 2 Elemental Particles pressed and 3 held. Press CD 6 seconds, Holding CD 9 seconds.

Elemental Burst, Sacred Rite: Wagtail's Tide. AoE Hydro DMG based on Max HP, plus Prayer of the Crimson Crown for the party: increased Elemental DMG with Normal Attacks, a rippling wave on each character switch-in for a limited number of instances, and Hydro Infusion for Sword, Claymore and Polearm wielders only. Duration 9 seconds, Wave Instances 3, CD 15 seconds, Energy Cost 60.

Fourth ascension passive, Celestial Dome of Sand. Worth quoting in full, because the second half is what nobody budgets for:

"Characters affected by the Prayer of the Crimson Crown ... will deal 0.5 percent increased DMG to opponents for every 1,000 points of Candace's Max HP when they deal Elemental DMG with their Normal Attacks."

Two conditions: the damage must come from Normal Attacks, and it must be Elemental. Note also what is absent — no cap. Compare the Dahlia build on the same banner, whose fourth ascension passive stops paying at a hard 20 percent ceiling. Candace's keeps climbing for every HP substat you add.

The Burst level trap: 20 percent is flat at every level

Here is Candace's published Burst scaling, level 1 through 13:

Talent level1591013
Skill DMG (% Max HP)6.618.7611.2411.914.05
Wave Impact DMG (% Max HP)6.618.7611.2411.914.05
DMG Bonus20%20%20%20%20%
Duration9s9s9s9s9s
Wave Instances33333
CD15s15s15s15s15s

Four of the six rows never move: DMG Bonus, duration, wave count and cooldown are identical at level 1 and level 13. Talent levels buy only Candace's own percent-of-Max-HP damage.

Now price that: taking one talent from level 1 to 10 costs 1,652,500 Mora, 6 Faded Red Satin, 22 Trimmed Red Silk, 31 Rich Red Brocade, 3 Teachings plus 21 Guide plus 38 Philosophies of Admonition, 6 Tears of the Calamitous God and 1 Crown of Insight. The Tears come from the Level 70-plus Magatsu Mitake Narukami no Mikoto trounce domain — weeks of weekly-boss runs.

Derived: at roughly 40,700 Max HP (the number we reach below), the Skill DMG instance is about 2,690 at level 1 and about 4,580 at level 9 — with three Wave Impact instances, roughly 10,800 to 18,300 per cooldown. Real, but chip damage on a support, while the thing your team actually feels does not shift by a point.

The practical rule. Level her Burst if you have spare Admonition books. Never give her a Crown; we ranked who deserves one in our Crown of Insight guide. Her Elemental Skill is the talent that rewards levels: shield absorption climbs from 12 percent of Max HP plus 1,155 at level 1 to 21.6 percent plus 2,542 at level 10.

Best Candace artifacts: 4-piece Noblesse Oblige, not 4-piece Tenacity

Most pages default Candace to 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith. Read the set text and her cooldowns together and the recommendation inverts.

Tenacity of the Millelith 4-piece reads: "When an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, the ATK of all nearby party members is increased by 20 percent and their Shield Strength is increased by 30 percent for 3s. This effect can be triggered once every 0.5s ... even when the character who is using this artifact set is not on the field."

That buff lasts 3 seconds, against a 6-second Press CD and a 9-second Holding CD. Derived: best case 3 seconds in every 6, so 50 percent uptime; the Hold version gives 3 in every 9, so 33 percent. Constellation 4 lifts Hold to the same 50 percent ceiling.

Noblesse Oblige 4-piece instead raises party ATK by 20 percent for 12 seconds on Burst, against a 15-second Burst CD. Derived: 80 percent uptime for the same 20 percent ATK figure, farmed in Clear Pool and Mountain Cavern.

The switching cost is calculable. Dropping Tenacity's 2-piece HP plus 20 percent takes our worked build from roughly 40,700 to 38,600 Max HP, moving the ascension passive from about 20.4 to 19.3 percent. You trade 1.1 percentage points of Normal Attack damage bonus for a 20 percent party ATK buff live four seconds in every five.

One correction worth carrying: Noblesse Oblige's 2-piece bonus is Elemental Burst DMG plus 20 percent, not HP — near dead weight here, another reason to run the full 4-piece rather than mixing halves.

Main stats. HP percent on Sands, Goblet and Circlet. A Hydro DMG goblet only amplifies her own small Burst instance; HP percent feeds the passive that buffs your carry. Substats: HP percent, then Energy Recharge, then flat HP. Crit is not a Candace stat, which matters next.

Best Candace weapons: the Favonius Lance trap

Announcement 21890 puts the matching Epitome Invocation alongside the two character wishes: 5-star Azurelight (Sword) and Symphonist of Scents (Polearm), with Sturdy Bone, Sacrificial Greatsword, Favonius Lance, The Widsith and Sacrificial Bow as the event-exclusive 4-stars.

Favonius Lance official weapon render, a polearm with gold and silver crossguard

Favonius Lance is the obvious pick and a trap on a Candace built this way. Its stats suit her — Base ATK 44 to 565 and Energy Recharge 6.7 to 30.6 percent, useful against a 60-cost Burst. But its Windfall passive triggers on CRIT hits: a 60 to 100 percent chance by refinement to generate particles worth 6 Energy, once every 12 seconds down to 6. A full-HP Candace runs base CRIT Rate, so derived, the passive almost never fires. Making it work means a CRIT Rate circlet, costing a 46.6 percent HP main stat and roughly 5 percentage points of her ascension passive — a bad trade for a support whose entire job is that passive.

The best-value weapon is a 3-star. Black Tassel carries Base ATK 38 to 354 and HP 10.2 percent to 46.9 percent, the highest HP percent sub-stat available to a polearm, and you almost certainly own several copies.

Skip Symphonist of Scents despite the banner: its Seasoned Symphony passive keys off ATK and off healing (plus 32 percent ATK for 3 seconds after healing), and Candace heals nothing.

How much Max HP can you actually reach?

Candace's Base HP at 90/90 is 10,874.91, her sixth ascension grants HP percent plus 24 percent, and a maxed 5-star HP percent main stat is 46.6 percent. The totals below are derived from those figures, before substats.

  • Budget — 6-star ascension, Black Tassel at 90/90, 2-piece Tenacity, flat-HP flower: about 25,500 Max HP, roughly 12.8 percent DMG bonus.
  • 4-piece Noblesse — 6-star ascension, Black Tassel, HP percent on Sands, Goblet and Circlet, flat-HP flower: about 38,600 Max HP, roughly 19.3 percent.
  • Maximum HP — the same with 2-piece Tenacity instead of the Noblesse 4-piece: about 40,700 Max HP, roughly 20.4 percent.

The jump from budget to three HP percent main stats is worth more than six percentage points of party damage — her single biggest upgrade. And with no printed cap, every HP percent substat keeps paying.

Who actually benefits from Candace's buff?

Both halves of her package share one requirement, narrower than it looks: Elemental DMG dealt with Normal Attacks. The Hydro Infusion that creates it for a physical attacker covers Sword, Claymore and Polearm wielders only. Derived consequences, in order of how often people get them wrong:

  • Bow users gain nothing. Bow Normal Attacks deal Physical damage and bows are not on Candace's infusion list, so those attacks never become Elemental DMG and neither buff applies.
  • Catalyst users keep the DMG Bonus but get no infusion. Catalyst Normal Attacks are already Elemental and satisfy the condition on their own.
  • Converting a Physical carry cuts both ways. Hydro Infusion switches both buffs on, but takes those attacks out of range of Physical DMG bonuses and resistance shred. Check what your carry amplifies first.
  • Her infusion has a documented pecking order. Candace's gameplay notes state it overrides Bennett's and Diluc's, but not Chongyun's.

The checklist: an on-field Normal Attack carry wielding a Sword, Claymore or Polearm, not relying on Physical DMG scaling. Narrow but real — the honest reason Candace sits where she does on tier lists. For how 7.1's new supports slot in, see our Vesna team guide.

Candace ascension and talent materials

Ascending Candace from 0 to 6 stars costs 420,000 Mora, 46 Light Guiding Tetrahedron, 1 Varunada Lazurite Sliver, 9 Fragments, 9 Chunks, 6 Gemstones, 168 Henna Berry, 18 Faded Red Satin, 30 Trimmed Red Silk and 36 Rich Red Brocade.

Henna Berry is the real gate. It is a Sumeru Local Specialty whose item page states these "only grow on cacti found throughout the Great Red Sand, Sumeru", no shop sells it, and 168 of them compete with Faruzan's claim on the same plant — start the route before October 13. Light Guiding Tetrahedron drops from the Level 30-plus Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network; its item page states no region. Mora-constrained? Our primogem and resource guide covers the efficient loops.

Constellations, ranked by what they change

  • C6, The Overflow — teammates dealing Elemental DMG with Normal Attacks unleash AoE Hydro equal to 15 percent of Candace's Max HP, once every 2.3 seconds, counted as Elemental Burst DMG — derived, roughly 6,100 per proc at 40,700 Max HP.
  • C4, Sentinel Oath — shortens the Hold CD to the Tap CD, making the Hold shield and its 3 particles sustainable.
  • C2, Moon-Piercing Brilliance — Max HP plus 20 percent for 15 seconds on Skill hit, feeding the Burst and the passive.
  • C1, Sacred Rite — Prayer of the Crimson Crown duration plus 3 seconds, taking the window from 9 to 12 seconds.
  • C3 and C5 — plus 3 talent levels each. C5 raises shield absorption; C3 raises the row that does not matter.

Constellations arrive whether you want them or not, and this three-week double-feature is when they arrive fastest. Deciding where your Fates go instead? Our Skirk or Escoffier comparison covers the 5-star side of these banners.

What this guide does not assert

  • No pull rates. The notices state a boosted drop rate and a shared guarantee count, with no percentage in the text we read.
  • No timezone conversion. The banner window is per-server local time. Use your in-game countdown.
  • No shield multiplier arithmetic. The barrier "absorbs Hydro DMG 250 percent more effectively", and the text does not define how that stacks.
  • No boss region for Light Guiding Tetrahedron. The item page gives a level gate, not a location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I level Candace's Elemental Burst? Only for her personal damage. The 20 percent DMG Bonus, the 9-second duration, the 3 wave instances and the 15-second cooldown are identical at talent level 1 and level 13. Level her Elemental Skill first — shield absorption actually scales.

What is the best Candace weapon? Black Tassel, a 3-star polearm, because its HP percent sub-stat tops out at 46.9 percent and feeds her ascension passive directly. Favonius Lance looks better on paper but needs CRIT hits, which a full-HP Candace does not produce.

Should I run 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith? 4-piece Noblesse Oblige holds its 20 percent party ATK buff for 12 seconds against a 15-second Burst cooldown, about 80 percent uptime. Tenacity's buff lasts 3 seconds against a 6-second Skill cooldown, so about 50 percent at best.

When is Candace available in Version 7.1 Phase 2? She is a featured 4-star on both Event Wishes, running 2026/10/13 18:00 to 2026/11/03 14:59 Server Time per announcements 21888 and 21889. She is also permanently in the Wanderlust Invocation standard pool.

Do bow characters benefit from Candace's buff? No. Her Hydro Infusion covers only Sword, Claymore and Polearm wielders, and both bonuses require Elemental DMG from Normal Attacks. Bow Normal Attacks stay Physical, so neither triggers.

The short version

Stack Max HP with no cap, run 4-piece Noblesse Oblige for uptime over Tenacity for theory, hand her a free Black Tassel, point her at a Sword, Claymore or Polearm Normal Attack carry, and keep your Crown.

Three weeks of boosted rate on a standard-pool 4-star is the cheapest constellation window she gets. Farm Henna Berry now and let the pulls arrive on their own.
