TL;DR: is Warzone Agent bannable now?

Running it gets you locked out; getting around the block can get you banned. From Season 1 (live at midnight ET on November 6, 2026, which is 9 PM PT on November 5), RICOCHET Anti-Cheat detects Warzone Agent when you launch or open Warzone and tells you to close it. If you leave it running, you're locked out of Multiplayer modes; Campaign still works. Anyone who tries to get around that block "may face temporary or permanent account and/or hardware bans." Activision started acting on November 5 and says the tool "violates our Terms of Use." It hasn't announced bans for past use. The free, rule-safe routes to softer lobbies this season are the Casual playlists, Rally Point and, for new players, the protected first-time Resurgence queue. Private Match is off for all of Season 1.

Key numbers from the official pages:

  • 3 enforcement steps: a close-the-app warning, a Multiplayer lockout, then possible account or hardware bans for anyone who works around it.
  • November 5, 2026: the day Activision says it "began taking action", one day before Season 1 went live.
  • 0 Warzone Private Matches in Season 1. Raven says Private Match "returns in Season 2."
  • 20 players in Rally Point, the new no-gas Resurgence mode on Zodiac.
  • 390 average monthly US Google searches for "warzone agent", per our Google Keyword Planner check on November 8, 2026.

What is Warzone Agent, and why did Activision block it?

Warzone Agent is a paid lobby checker. You type in the lobby ID shown while the match loads, and it returns the average K/D of the players in your warm-up lobby. If the number looks too high, you back out and queue again. That's "lobby shopping", and it's exactly the behaviour Activision named.

Here's how Raven Software describes it in the Season 1 notes:

"Warzone Agent is an unauthorized, paid third-party application that enables 'lobby shopping,' allowing players to assess lobby skill levels during pre-match warm-ups and avoid more competitive matches in favor of easier ones. While Warzone Agent does not provide traditional cheating functionality, such as aimbots or wallhacks, it creates an unfair advantage, undermines competitive integrity, and violates our Terms of Use." (Raven Software, Warzone Season 1 Patch Notes)

The same paragraph sits in the Global section of Infinity Ward's MW4 Season 1 notes, so it isn't a Warzone-only footnote. Our MW4 patch notes explainer covers the rest of that update.

Call of Duty's own account explained why on X on November 6: lobby shopping "allows users to cycle through live warm up lobbies to find easier matches and avoid tougher competition, creating a disadvantage for everyone else looking for a match." A follow-up post added that the company is acting "to protect legitimate players from those willing to pay for underhanded methods of gaining an edge."

This isn't the first round. In August 2024 CharlieIntel reported that Activision had cut off "the ability to use apps like WZ Agent" in Warzone. The tool kept going anyway. The difference in Season 1 is that enforcement now runs through RICOCHET on your own machine, with a lockout and ban warnings, instead of only cutting data access.

What happens if you run Warzone Agent in Season 1?

The patch notes spell out three steps. This is everything Activision has published, word for word where it matters:

StepWhat happensOfficial wording
1. DetectionLaunching or opening Warzone with the app running triggers a notice to close it"will receive a notification instructing them to close the unauthorized software"
2. LockoutLeave it running and Multiplayer modes stay locked. Campaign is not affected"will be prevented from accessing Multiplayer modes. Campaign access will remain unaffected"
3. BansTrying to get around the block can end in an account or hardware ban"may face temporary or permanent account and/or hardware bans"

Two things the notes don't say. They don't say anyone gets banned just for having used Warzone Agent before Season 1, and they don't say how RICOCHET recognises it. WarzoneAgent's own site, checked on November 8, still sells a web-based checker with "no software to install" and calls it "100% undetectable". Treat that as a sales line. Activision's November 6 post says RICOCHET "will block players attempting to load the software," and our RICOCHET and Secure Boot explainer covers what the anti-cheat can see on PC.

Can you get banned for using Warzone Agent?

Yes, once you work around the block. That's the line the notes draw, and Activision's general policy shows what it means in practice:

  • The account owner carries the risk. "The account holder is responsible for any infraction on the account. We apply penalties no matter who was playing at the time." (Security and Enforcement Policy)
  • Hardware bans stick to the PC or console, can apply "across titles, including past, present, or future Call of Duty games", and "are not eligible for appeal."
  • Only permanent account bans can be appealed. Temporary bans just run out.
  • Limited Matchmaking is a separate penalty. Accounts in that state get matched with similar accounts and "may not earn progression" there, and your party can be pulled in with you.

The policy also lists Circumventing Security ("any attempt to circumvent our security systems") as its own infraction, so any "bypass" sold to get around the Season 1 warning puts you in a second category of trouble. If the reason you lobby shop is to protect your stats, a hardware ban that can also cover future Call of Duty games is a bad trade.

Does the block also hit VPNs and lobby-KD websites?

Not by name. Warzone Agent is the only tool the Season 1 notes call out. The wider policy is broad, though:

  • Spoofing is "any attempt to hide, disguise, or obfuscate your identity or the identity of your hardware devices." The policy doesn't mention VPNs, but that's the clause people point to. WarzoneAgent bundles a VPN subscription with its plans, which ties the two together. Our guide to getting bot lobbies in MW4 tests the VPN route and explains why it rarely pays off.
  • Unauthorized software covers "any code and/or software not authorized by Activision that can be used in connection with the game."
  • Raven's closing line keeps the door open: "We'll continue taking action against tools and behaviors that compromise the integrity of Warzone."

Ordinary stat sites that only show your own post-match numbers aren't mentioned anywhere. The target is anything that shows other players' skill before the match starts so you can dodge them.

Why do Warzone players lobby shop in the first place?

Because skill-based matchmaking is how Season 1 feels for a lot of players. Three Reddit threads from this week show the mood. In paraphrase:

  • In an r/CallOfDuty thread on November 8, a player said MW4 Multiplayer plays well but feels too sweaty because of SBMM, to the point that they never feel like they're improving.
  • In an r/CODWarzone thread the same day, a college student who plays an hour or two of Resurgence a night and averages 4 to 5 kills asked whether the new Warzone will keep getting sweatier.
  • In an r/CallOfDuty thread on November 6, a player who dislikes SBMM asked people who like it what they actually get out of it compared with open matchmaking.

Infinity Ward hasn't explained how MW4 matchmaking works. Multiplayer creative director Joe Cecot told IGN: "Though we're not talking about exact specifics on matchmaking, our end goal is that every match is a good match." With no SBMM toggle, a lobby-KD checker looked like the only lever. As of Season 1, using it costs you Multiplayer access. For the matchmaking background, see our MW4 SBMM and Open Matchmaking breakdown.

What are the free, rule-safe ways to get easier Warzone lobbies in Season 1?

None of these needs third-party software or breaks any rule. They're ranked by how much they soften your games:

OptionWhereCostWhat you getRisk
BR Casual / Resurgence CasualHajin and ZodiacFreeLower-stakes Warzone that still counts for Grind for RoyaltyNone
Rally Point20 players on Zodiac, no gas, unlimited Resurgence, drop-in/drop-outFreeRelaxed fights, an exclusive Blueprint and 2 camos (it's an LTM, so no Grind for Royalty progress)None
First-time ResurgenceNew and returning players only, if eligibleFreeA protected intro queue before regular playlistsNone
Private MatchDisabled—Not available until Season 2—

Casual playlists. Raven's notes confirm Casual queues exist and that Grind for Royalty progress counts in "both Casual and Regular playlists." In week 1 that means BR Casual Quads on Hajin and Resurgence Casual Quads; the Season 1 playlist breakdown has the full rotation.

Rally Point. The notes describe 20 players, "no Gas Circle, unlimited Resurgence, and drop-in/drop-out functionality." It's the closest Warzone gets to a low-pressure mode right now, and the rewards are real: one Weapon Blueprint and two Weapon Camos.

First-time Resurgence. Season 1 refreshed the onboarding so that "eligible players can opt into a new protected Resurgence experience" before moving to regular playlists. You can't choose to be eligible, but if the game offers it, take it.

What about paid bot lobbies? They're not on this list on purpose. timesaver.gg sells them, so here's the straight answer: Activision's boosting rule covers "exploiting the game for the purpose of gaining XP, prestige, game score, weapon level, or in-game unlock," which means a paid session is a risk you choose to take, not a rule-safe alternative, and no provider can honestly promise zero risk. It's also a different method from a lobby checker: nothing runs on your PC to read other players' stats. Our MW4 bot lobbies explainer goes through that trade-off in full.

What should you do if you still have Warzone Agent?

  • Close it before you launch Warzone. The detection runs at launch and when you open Warzone. Campaign keeps working either way, so a Campaign launch isn't proof you're in the clear.
  • Don't hunt for a bypass. That's the step that moves you from "locked out" to "may face temporary or permanent account and/or hardware bans."
  • Cancel the subscription if you only bought it for Warzone. The VPN bundled with it is no help for this.
  • Check your account status on Activision's ban appeal page if anything looks off. Only permanent bans can be appealed.
  • Spend your Season 1 time where it counts. Camo unlocks are now shared between Warzone and every other mode, and Casual playlists count toward Grind for Royalty (limited-time modes like Rally Point don't). Warzone Mastery challenges still have to be done in Warzone. Season 1's other Warzone changes are in our Verdansk and Rebirth Island guide and Zodiac map guide.

FAQ

Can I buy this loadout instead of farming it? Yes: this loadout costs $32.61 on Timesaver, and a Timesaver pro completes it by hand within 4 hours. How handover works and what happens if something goes wrong: account safety.

Is Warzone Agent bannable in MW4 Season 1? Leaving it running gets you locked out of Multiplayer until you close it. The ban risk starts when you try to get around that block: players who "attempt to circumvent these restrictions and continue using the software may face temporary or permanent account and/or hardware bans."

Will I get banned for using Warzone Agent before Season 1? Activision hasn't announced retroactive bans. The published enforcement starts with Season 1 and focuses on people who keep running it or try to get around the block. That's the official position as of November 8, and it can change.

Does Warzone Agent still work? Its website still sells the service and calls it undetectable. Activision says RICOCHET blocks players who load the software and locks them out of Multiplayer until they close it. Paying for it now means risking your account for a tool the publisher is actively shutting down.

Is lobby shopping against the rules even without an app? Backing out of a lobby isn't named as an infraction in Activision's Security and Enforcement Policy. What Activision calls out is the paid software that shows other players' skill so you can dodge them, which it says "violates our Terms of Use."

What's the safest way to get easier Warzone lobbies now? Play the Casual playlists or Rally Point, and take the protected first-time Resurgence queue if the game offers it. Private Match is off until Season 2. Paid bot lobbies carry policy risk; our bot lobbies guide explains the trade-offs.
