The Far-Forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit stops more Hideouts than almost any other item. You need exactly one for Intelligence Center level 3, you can't buy it on the Flea Market, and you can't stash it in your secure container on the way out. One player on r/EscapefromTarkov posted this week that 15+ Labs raids had turned up six Advanced Current Converters and no GPS. Here's where it actually spawns, and the quick way around the grind.
Quick answer: The Far-Forward GPS (GPSA) spawns as loose electronics loot on The Lab. That's the only location the wiki lists. Players most often report it in the Yellow, Violet and Red keycard rooms and the weapon testing area. The guaranteed route is Lightkeeper's quest Following the Bread Crumbs, which rewards 1 GPSA. The Mechanic barter only unlocks after that same quest. You need 1 for Intelligence Center 3, and on a Season 1 character it doesn't need to be found in raid.
Facts here were checked on November 2, 2026 against the official wiki, on patch 1.3.0.0 during Season 1: KORD BREACH. Spawn spots are player reports, because BSG doesn't publish spawn rates. We've marked which is which.

Where does the Far-Forward GPS spawn?
The wiki gives one location: The Lab, under Electronics spawns. No fixed spot, no named container. It's loose loot that can land on a floor, a desk or a crate, which is why people run past it or never see it.
It's a small 1x1 box weighing 0.44 kg, and the short name you'll see in game is GPSA. It's dark and easy to lose against a dark floor, so slow down when you check a room.
Player reports cluster around these spots. Room codes come from the official Lab map and the wiki's keycard pages:
| Spot | Level | What you need | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow room (alarm control panel, by Y21) | Second | Yellow keycard | Multiple threads |
| Violet room (security post, R23) | Second | Violet keycard | Multiple threads |
| Red room (security arsenal, R23) | Second | Red keycard | Multiple threads |
| Weapon testing area (O11) | First | Weapon testing area key | Two finds in one thread |
| Server rack section near weapon testing | First | None reported | One report, on PvP |
| Office with the cat statues | Unknown | None reported | Wiki screenshot, plus one player report |
| Conference room desk near Administration | Second | No keycards, per the player | One report |
Three threads back that table: the recent one above, a longer Far Forward GPS loot thread and an Intelligence level 3 discussion. One reader in that last thread bought the weapon testing key on another player's tip and found the GPSA on the floor inside. Another reported more than 70 Labs raids without ever seeing one.
So treat this as a list of where to look, not a promise. A useful rule from the same threads: if a spot gives you an Advanced Current Converter or a Microcontroller board, it's worth rechecking for a GPSA, because players describe them turning up in the same places. That's community pattern-spotting, not a confirmed shared loot table.
The two screenshots here are from the wiki and date from older builds. They show how easy the item is to miss. It can also sit on top of a crate, like this:
Does it spawn anywhere other than Labs?
Probably not in any way worth farming. The wiki lists The Lab only. Tarkov.help's item page shows spawn points on Reserve, Customs, Interchange and other maps, but those counts sit under a broad Military electronics category, not GPSA-specific finds. One player who has found Advanced Current Converters in Reserve's newer room said they hadn't seen a signal amplifier there.
Our call: run Labs for this. Don't spend raids hunting it on Reserve unless you're there anyway.
Infected Lab is the interesting exception right now. In the same thread that opened this guide, one player said they ran the zombie version on PvP looking for a converter and pulled six GPSAs instead. That's a single report, so don't plan around it. But the Halloween event gives you a second place to try while it lasts. Infected Lab still needs a Labs keycard and has no insurance, and BSG hadn't announced an event end date as of November 2. Our Tarkov Halloween 2026 guide covers how the event maps work.
Is there a guaranteed way to get the Far-Forward GPS?
Yes, one. Lightkeeper's quest Following the Bread Crumbs rewards 1 Far-Forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit plus a Substation marked key. It's the only source on the wiki that doesn't depend on loot luck. One tracker disagrees: Tarkov.help's quest page lists a Lighthouse island stash key instead of the GPSA. The wiki's quest and item pages and TarkovHead all list the GPSA, and a player in this week's thread pointed to the Lightkeeper quests for it, so we're going with those.
The catch is getting there. You need Lightkeeper first (our Lightkeeper unlock guide covers that), then these steps:
- Finish Provocation on Interchange.
- Wait 10 hours. Following the Bread Crumbs unlocks after that timer.
- Kill any 20 targets on The Lab.
- Search the weapon testing area and the human experiment room. These objectives only appear after the kills are done.
- Get the Secured tape from the conference room on the second floor and bring it to Lightkeeper.
You'll need the weapon testing key and a Black keycard for those rooms, per the wiki's quest page. The manager's office key is optional: it opens 3 of the tape's 8 possible spawns. The quest also sends you through the same area where GPSAs get reported, so you may find one before you turn it in.
Can you buy it or barter for it?
Not in a way that helps with your first one. The wiki and Tarkov.help both list it as banned from the Flea Market, and no trader sells it for roubles. There's a single barter at Mechanic LL4, and it only unlocks after Following the Bread Crumbs, the quest that already gives you a GPSA.
| Barter ingredient | Count | Tarkov.help Flea price, Nov 2 | Subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Military gyrotachometer | 5 | 64,000 ₽ | 320,000 ₽ |
| Military cable | 10 | 28,899 ₽ | 288,990 ₽ |
| Military COFDM Wireless Signal Transmitter | 8 | 110,000 ₽ | 880,000 ₽ |
| UHF RFID Reader | 5 | 109,999 ₽ | 549,995 ₽ |
| Total | about 2.04M ₽ |
So the barter is a roughly 2M ₽ second GPSA, not a shortcut around the first. You'd only want a spare for the Workbench 3 craft that turns one GPSA into 4 Microcontroller boards in 14 hours, and that craft needs the quest Spotter done. Don't feed your only GPSA into it before Intelligence Center 3 is built.
The other rumour is Cultist Circle. One player in the loot thread said they got theirs from a sacrifice, and another doubted that it works. It isn't a method we'd spend roubles on.

How do you get it out of the raid?
This is where most finds die. The wiki states the item can't be put in a secure container, so finding it doesn't count until you extract. The Lab doesn't return insured gear either. Your GPSA rides in your rig, pockets or backpack, and it's gone if you die.
Three habits help:
- Leave once you have it. Your raid goal is done. Don't go for one more room with the item that's been blocking your Hideout for weeks.
- Plan the extract first. Know which Labs extract you can trigger before you loot. The Tarkov Labs guide goes through the options.
- Bring a duo if you can. On a Season 1 character, Black Division replace Raiders on The Lab, and the wiki warns that activating an extract switch can draw Raiders to it. Each player needs their own keycard, because the access card is used on entry.
Keycards add up fast, so check your access. The single-use Labs access keycard comes from Therapist or Ref at LL3, or from Intelligence Center 2's craft, which turns 1 UHF RFID Reader and 1 Intelligence folder into 3 cards in 40 minutes. On Season 1, crafting times are cut in half.
What does Intelligence Center 3 need, and is it worth it?
The GPSA is the hardest part, but it isn't the whole list. Here's what the wiki and TarkovForge show for level 3:
| Requirement | Amount |
|---|---|
| Far-Forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit | 1 |
| Military COFDM Wireless Signal Transmitter | 2 |
| VPX Flash Storage Module | 2 |
| Secure magnetic tape cassette | 2 |
| Military cable | 8 |
| Military flash drive | 8 |
| Workbench | Level 3 |
| Generator | Level 3 |
| Build time | 24 hours |
Tarkov.help lists 5 cables and 5 flash drives instead of 8, so check the module screen in your own Hideout before you buy extras.
Found-in-raid rules depend on your mode. The wiki flags only the COFDM transmitters as found in raid. On Season 1 even that goes away. As the Seasons page puts it: "Hideout zones do not require items to be found in raid."
It's worth the trouble. Level 3 cuts your Scav cooldown by another 20%, for 35% in total, and cuts Flea Market commission by 30%. It unlocks crafts for Graphics cards, Military flash drives, Intelligence folders and the Green, Red and Violet keycards. It also opens the radio check that starts the Boreas story chapter, which leads to Icebreaker. If you already run profitable hideout crafts, the new recipes add more options.
Season 1 ends on December 7, 2026, so a seasonal character has about five weeks left to get value from the upgrade. That's the real question for seasonal players: if you're only a few raids from level 3, push it now. If you're just starting Labs, compare it against the rest of your Hideout priority list first.

FAQ
Where do you find the Far-Forward GPS in Tarkov? On The Lab, as loose electronics loot. Players mostly report it in the Yellow, Violet and Red keycard rooms and the weapon testing area, and sometimes on floors in unlocked offices.
How many Far-Forward GPS units do you need? One for Intelligence Center level 3. It's the item's only Hideout use on the wiki. The only other use listed is the Microcontroller board craft.
Can you sell or buy the Far-Forward GPS on the Flea Market? No. It's banned from the Flea Market, and you can't put it in a secure container either.
Does the Far-Forward GPS need to be found in raid? The wiki doesn't mark it as found in raid for Intelligence Center 3, only the COFDM transmitters. On a Season 1 character, no Hideout item needs that status.
Which quest gives the Far-Forward GPS? Following the Bread Crumbs from Lightkeeper. It rewards 1 unit and unlocks the Mechanic LL4 barter for more.
Is the Far-Forward GPS the same as the Advanced Current Converter? No. The converter is for Solar Power, and the GPSA is for Intelligence Center 3. Both are Labs electronics that can't go in a secure container, which is why players often hunt them together.
