Zul'Aman Loot on TBC Anniversary: The 10 Drops Worth Your 3-Day Lockout (Ranked Before October 22)

Zul'Aman opens on the TBC Anniversary realms on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PDT / 23:00 BST, and it is the strangest loot table in the expansion: a 10-player raid whose best items are not on the bosses at all, but in four hostage chests that only open if your group beats a clock. Most of the boss loot is a catch-up tier that sits between Tier 5 and Black Temple. A handful of drops — two trinkets, three Zul'jin weapons and the 141 rings — are genuinely worth building your week around.

This is the ranked shortlist: what each drop is, who actually wants it, and which ones justify spending your 3-day lockout on Zul'Aman instead of another Black Temple night.

TL;DR — Quick answer

  • Zul'Aman is a level-70, 10-player raid with six bosses, no attunement and a 3-day lockout — confirmed by Blizzard's Phase 3.5 announcement.
  • Boss loot runs from item level 128 to 138 (warcraft.wiki.gg): the Hex Lord trinkets are 133, Zul'jin's weapons are 138.
  • The highest item level in the raid is in the timed-run chests: hostage rewards climb 128 (armor) → 132 (weapon) → 141 (ring), and the fourth chest, Ashli's Bag, is where the Amani War Bear comes from.
  • The timer is 20 minutes, plus 15 minutes for Nalorakk and 10 for Akil'zon — a hard 45-minute ceiling to kill the four animal bosses.
  • Top 3 drops: the Amani War Bear, the 141 hostage rings, and Hex Shrunken Head (caster) / Tome of Diabolic Remedy (healer).
  • After October 22 every Zul'Aman boss also drops Badges of Justice, so even a "dead" clear feeds your badge gear.

What item level is Zul'Aman loot on TBC Anniversary?

Zul'Aman was designed in patch 2.3 as the bridge raid, and its numbers show it. According to warcraft.wiki.gg's Zul'Aman (BC Classic) page, these are the loot sources and item levels on the Anniversary realms (stats below are the TBC tooltip values, cross-checked against Wowhead's TBC item database):

SourceItem levelWhat you get
Animal-boss drops (Nalorakk, Akil'zon, Jan'alai, Halazzi)~128–132Armor, one-handers, off-hands
Hex Lord Malacrass128–133Trinkets, three-socket helms, weapons
Zul'jin133–138Two-handers, caster swords, trinkets
Hostage 1 chest128Random armor piece
Hostage 2 chest132Random weapon
Hostage 3 chest (Kraz's Package)141Random ring
Hostage 4 chest (Ashli's Bag)—Amani War Bear

For context, community gear trackers put Tier 6 set pieces at item level 146 (expcarry tier-set breakdown). So Zul'Aman is not where a Black Temple raider finds upgrades in most slots — it is where a fresh or returning 70 closes the gap fast, and where specific trinkets and the 141 rings stay relevant even for geared players.

The 10 Zul'Aman drops worth your lockout, ranked

Ranked by how much each item matters on an Anniversary realm in the final weeks of Phase 3 — impact for the people who will actually loot it, not raw item level.

1. Amani War Bear (Ashli's Bag, fourth hostage)

Not a stat upgrade, but the only reward in the raid that historically became unobtainable. The bear needs level 70 and Journeyman Riding (warcraft.wiki.gg), and on the original servers it stopped being obtainable at patch 3.0.2 on October 14, 2008. Blizzard's own framing back then, from a May 2008 forum post by Tigole:

"The Zul'Aman bear mount is supposed to be an item of very high prestige." — Blizzard (Tigole), 2008

On Anniversary, the bear is obtainable for as long as the realms stay in TBC. Nobody has a confirmed date for what comes after, so treat every week of the Zul'Aman phase as a week you can get it — not a guarantee of how many you'll have.

2. The item-level 141 hostage rings (Kraz's Package)

The highest-item-level gear in the instance comes from the third hostage chest, not from any boss. The pool includes Signet of Primal Wrath (agility/physical DPS), Signet of the Last Defender (tank), Mana Attuned Band, Signet of Eternal Life and Signet of the Quiet Forest — one ring for nearly every role. Rings don't come from tier tokens, so a 141 ring can still be an upgrade for raiders who haven't had luck with Black Temple and Hyjal ring drops — check the stats for your spec, not just the item level. The catch: you only get it if your group kills three animal bosses inside the timer.

3. Hex Shrunken Head (Hex Lord Malacrass)

Item level 133 caster trinket: +53 spell damage and healing passively, plus an on-use +211 spell damage and healing for 20 seconds (2-minute cooldown). For Warlocks, Mages, Shadow Priests and Elemental Shaman it is one of the strongest caster on-use trinkets you can get outside Black Temple and Hyjal.

4. Tome of Diabolic Remedy (Hex Lord Malacrass)

The healer counterpart: item level 133, restores 18 mana per 5 seconds, and on use increases healing by up to 396 (and spell damage by up to 132) for 20 seconds (2-minute cooldown). Built-in mp5 plus a big healing burst makes it a strong pickup for Holy Paladins, Resto Shaman and Priests — and an instant best-in-bag trinket for a fresh-70 healer.

5. Jin'rohk, The Great Apocalypse (Zul'jin)

Item level 138 two-hand sword: 380–570 damage, 3.70 speed, +49 Stamina, +120 Attack Power, +45 haste rating. For a returning Warrior, Retribution Paladin or Hunter stat-stick who never saw a Tier 5 weapon, it is a big jump in one drop.

6. Blade of Twisted Visions (Zul'jin)

Item level 138 main-hand sword: +229 spell damage and healing, +21 spell haste rating, +33 Stamina, +21 Intellect. The best caster DPS weapon in the raid (sword-capable classes only); players already holding a Black Temple or Hyjal caster weapon should pass on it.

7. Dark Blessing (Zul'jin)

Item level 138 main-hand healing mace: +431 healing, +144 spell damage, +30 spell haste rating, +19 Intellect. This is a healer weapon — casters should leave it for the Holy Paladin, Resto Shaman or Priest it's built for.

8. Hood of Hexing (Hex Lord Malacrass)

Item level 133 cloth helm with red, yellow and blue sockets — 33 Intellect, 24 Stamina, +56 spell damage and healing, 31 spell hit rating and 24 spell crit rating. It matters because the October 22 patch also lets Magtheridon's Black Sack of Gems and Jewelcrafter's Brilliant Glass contain epic gems (Blizzard) — three sockets go further now.

9. Berserker's Call (Zul'jin)

Item level 133 physical-DPS trinket: +90 Attack Power passively with an on-use +360 Attack Power for 20 seconds (2-minute cooldown). Geared melee will compare it against their Black Temple trinkets; for a fresh 70 it is an easy upgrade.

10. Ancient Aqir Artifact (Zul'jin)

Item level 133 tank trinket: +45 parry rating and an on-use +2,500 armor for 20 seconds (2-minute cooldown). Parry does nothing for a Feral Druid, so this is a Protection Warrior or Protection Paladin pickup — handy if you're gearing a fresh tank alt before November 4.

How does the Zul'Aman timer actually work?

The timer is where the best loot hides, so the rules matter more than any boss strategy. Per the warcraft.wiki.gg timed-event page:

  • You start the event by talking to Harrison Jones, who opens the gate.
  • You get 20 minutes to kill the first animal boss of your choice.
  • Killing Nalorakk adds 15 minutes. Killing Akil'zon adds 10 minutes. Jan'alai and Halazzi add nothing.
  • That makes 45 minutes total to kill the first four bosses — and each must die before the timer expires; pulling isn't enough.
  • Each boss killed in time frees a hostage, and the chests escalate: armor (128) → weapon (132) → ring (141) → Ashli's Bag.

Blizzard's own description is blunt: "Rescue all the hostages before time runs out, and your raid will earn the rare Amani War Bear battle mount." That is why Nalorakk and Akil'zon are almost always killed first — they buy the time.

Is Zul'Aman worth your lockout over Black Temple?

It depends on where your character is — and in late Phase 3, the honest split looks like this:

Your characterRun Zul'Aman forSkip Zul'Aman for
Fresh or returning 70 (dungeon blues)Zul'jin weapons, Hex Lord trinkets, rings, badges—
Tier 5 raider141 rings, the bear, a trinket upgradeMost armor drops
Black Temple / Hyjal gearedThe bear and badgesAlmost every boss item

Two other October 22 changes push the math further toward "run it." First, Zul'Aman has a 3-day lockout instead of the 7-day lockout of the other TBC raids, so it doesn't compete with your BT week the way another 25-man would. Second, every Zul'Aman boss now drops Badges of Justice (Blizzard) — and G'eras in Shattrath is getting "more powerful wares" for badges, including Nether Vortex. Even a clear with zero useful boss drops pays you in badges. Our full October 22 patch breakdown covers the badge changes in detail.

Players have noticed the timing too. In the r/classicwowtbc Zul'Aman announcement thread, one commenter pointed out that Zul'Aman arrives exactly eight weeks after Phase 3, the same cadence as the original TBC Classic — and wished it had come sooner, since many guilds spent extra weeks in SSC and Tempest Keep without getting the loot they needed. Another in the same thread described losing a Black Temple trinket to a raider who hadn't shown up in three weeks — exactly the loot drama a short 10-player lockout with clear priorities avoids.

Who should get what? A simple Zul'Aman loot priority

Ten players and six bosses means loot disputes happen fast. A clean default order:

  • Bear: whoever the raid agreed on before the gong — never "roll for it" after a 45-minute run.
  • 141 rings: biggest real upgrade for the spec first; geared raiders defer to fresh 70s unless the ring beats what they already wear.
  • Trinkets: Hex Shrunken Head → caster DPS; Tome → healer with the weakest trinket set; Berserker's Call → physical DPS; Aqir Artifact → Warrior/Paladin tank.
  • Zul'jin weapons: Jin'rohk to physical DPS, the Blade to caster DPS, Dark Blessing to healers — whoever is still on a pre-raid or heroic weapon first.
  • Armor: to the alt/fresh-70 slots — geared mains pass.

How long do you actually have to farm Zul'Aman?

The raid is live from October 22, and WoW: Forever launches November 4, 2026 — a separate game that does not shut down or migrate your TBC Anniversary realm, but is widely expected to pull players away. That gives you roughly 13 days before Forever launches, and with a 3-day lockout that's roughly four Zul'Aman resets in that window, depending on your region's reset calendar. After that, timed-run pugs will likely be harder to fill — a forecast, not a certainty.

What's confirmed vs not:

  • Confirmed (Blizzard): October 22 launch, 10-player, six bosses, no attunement, 3-day lockout, badges from every boss, timed-run hostages and the Amani War Bear.
  • Not confirmed: any date for Phase 4 (Fury of the Sunwell), Arena Season 4 timing, or whether Anniversary moves on to Wrath after TBC. Ignore anyone giving you a firm date.

If you missed the bigger picture, our Zul'Aman and WoW Forever timing piece and the returning-player raid-ready plan cover it.

Should you buy a Zul'Aman carry or do it yourself?

If your guild still raids and has a reliable 10-player group, do it yourself — Zul'Aman is one of the most fun raids in TBC. A carry makes sense in two cases: you don't have a group that can reliably make the 45-minute timer, or you want specific Zul'jin and Hex Lord drops on a fresh 70 before the population thins out after November 4.

FAQ

What item level is Zul'Aman loot in TBC Anniversary? Boss drops range from item level 128 to 138, with Zul'jin's weapons at 138. The highest item level in the raid is the 141 ring from the third timed-run hostage chest.

Does Zul'Aman need an attunement? No. Blizzard confirmed that no attunement is required, so any level 70 can enter from October 22.

How long is the Zul'Aman lockout? Three days, instead of the seven-day lockout used by the other TBC raids, so you can clear it more than once a week.

How do you get the Amani War Bear? Kill all four animal bosses before the timer runs out — 20 minutes to start, plus 15 for Nalorakk and 10 for Akil'zon, for 45 minutes total — and loot Ashli's Bag from the fourth hostage. The mount requires level 70 and Journeyman Riding.

Do Zul'Aman bosses drop Badges of Justice? Yes. Starting October 22, all bosses in Zul'Aman drop Badges of Justice, along with Karazhan, Gruul, Magtheridon, SSC, Tempest Keep, Kazzak and Doomwalker.

Is Zul'Aman loot better than Black Temple? No. Tier 6 is item level 146, so Zul'Aman is a catch-up raid. Its value is the 141 rings, the Hex Lord trinkets, the Zul'jin weapons for fresh 70s, badges, and the bear.
