When Does Fortnite Season End? Countdown, Downtime & What Comes Next

Quick answer (updated 29 October 2026): The current Fortnite season, Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override", ends on Sunday 1 November 2026. Epic's own Battle Pass page says the pass "Ends November 1, 2026 Eastern Time". That's 3 days away as of today, so Saturday 31 October is your last full day to play Override. The season ends with update v43.00. Epic hasn't published a downtime time yet. Early patch-note coverage expects servers to go down at 2 AM ET (07:00 UTC), and season changes usually keep the game offline for 4–6 hours. Next up is the Treasure Hunters mini-season. The Fortnite Wiki lists it ending on 5 December 2026, but Epic hasn't confirmed that. This page always covers the season that's currently live, and we update it every season.

Key takeaways

  • Override ends: 1 November 2026, Eastern Time (Epic Battle Pass page). Some countdown sites and wikis still show 31 October.
  • Season length: 20 August to 1 November 2026, about 73 days.
  • Downtime: expected around 2 AM ET / 07:00 UTC on 1 November. Epic hasn't confirmed it. Plan for 4–6 hours offline.
  • Clocks change: US daylight saving time ends that same morning, so 2 AM ET works out to 07:00 UTC, not 06:00.
  • Next season: Treasure Hunters (with One Piece) starts 1 November 2026. The wiki lists its end as 5 December 2026 (unconfirmed).
  • Fortnite OG runs separately: OG Chapter 1 Season X runs until about 4 December 2026.
  • Unclaimed pass rewards aren't lost. Epic grants rewards you've earned the next time you log in. Levels you haven't earned are gone.

When does the current Fortnite season end?

The live Battle Royale season is Chapter 7 Season 4, "Override". It launched with update v42.00 on 20 August 2026. It ends on 1 November 2026, when update v43.00 replaces it.

Epic's own wording is the source to trust here. The official Battle Pass page reads: "Ends November 1, 2026 Eastern Time." An Epic staff member also gave the date of the next update in a v42.40 known-issues thread on the official Unreal Engine forums, writing that a fix was "targeted for v43.00 (November 1)".

You'll still see 31 October on some countdown sites and in older articles, and early wiki entries listed that date too. We go with Epic's date. In practice it changes little, because Fortnite seasons end with the update downtime, which falls in the early hours of 1 November in the US. Treat Saturday 31 October as the last full day.

How many days are left in the Fortnite season?

On 29 October 2026 there are 3 days left. That's Thursday, Friday and Saturday, plus a few early hours on Sunday before downtime in the Americas.

The last week isn't quiet. Epic is running The Final Spritemare from Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 October, starting at 9 AM ET (13:00 UTC) each day. From Epic's announcement: "The Season's going out with a five-day send-off!" Every day of it gives 2x Sprite XP and 2x Sprite Dust, plus a daily login quest worth one Lucky Locator (five in total). The boost is for Sprites only. Epic hasn't announced a Battle Pass XP boost, so don't count on one for your last levels.

What time does the Fortnite season end?

Fortnite seasons don't end at a set countdown second. They end when Epic takes the servers down for the next season's update. For v43.00, Epic hasn't posted a time yet. It usually announces it on @FortniteStatus a day or two ahead.

The current expectation comes from early patch-note coverage. Beebom's Treasure Hunters early patch notes say downtime is "expected to begin at 2 AM ET on November 1, 2026", with servers back around 6 AM ET. Recent updates have started at 2 AM or 4 AM ET, and Override itself launched after a 2 AM ET downtime on 20 August. So 2 AM ET is a reasonable working assumption, but it isn't confirmed.

The clock-change trap. US daylight saving time ends at 2 AM on Sunday 1 November, the same morning as the update. That makes 2 AM ET 2 AM EST = 07:00 UTC, an hour later than it would have been a week earlier. The UK and Europe already changed their clocks on 25 October.

RegionIf downtime starts 2 AM ETIf downtime starts 4 AM ET
US East (ET)Sun 1 Nov, 2:00 AMSun 1 Nov, 4:00 AM
US West (PT)Sun 1 Nov, 12:00 AM (midnight PDT)Sun 1 Nov, 1:00 AM PST
UTC / UK (GMT)Sun 1 Nov, 07:00Sun 1 Nov, 09:00
Central Europe (CET)Sun 1 Nov, 08:00Sun 1 Nov, 10:00
Moscow (MSK)Sun 1 Nov, 10:00Sun 1 Nov, 12:00
India (IST)Sun 1 Nov, 12:30Sun 1 Nov, 14:30
Japan (JST)Sun 1 Nov, 16:00Sun 1 Nov, 18:00
Sydney (AEDT)Sun 1 Nov, 18:00Sun 1 Nov, 20:00

If downtime does start at one of those times, players in Australia and New Zealand keep Override for most of Sunday daytime, while in Europe it ends on Sunday morning.

How long will Fortnite be down? Season changes take longer than normal patches. The Fortnite Wiki's downtime log puts the 1 November 2025 season change at about 5 hours, and v42.00 in August was roughly 5 hours too. Plan for 4–6 hours. Epic switches matchmaking off shortly before downtime begins, so finish your last match early. For live status on the day, check our Fortnite server status page or status.epicgames.com.

When does the next Fortnite season start and end?

The next season is Treasure Hunters, and it starts on 1 November 2026 with v43.00. Epic revealed the name and date on 24 October in a short teaser that signed off "The greatest adventure of all! 11.1". On the same day it confirmed Fortnite x One Piece as part of the season. It's a mini-season, a shorter bridge season like the one we got this time last year: The Simpsons ran from 1 to 29 November 2025 (28 days) before Chapter 7 started.

When does Treasure Hunters end? Epic hasn't said. The Fortnite Wiki's Treasure Hunters page lists 5 December 2026, which would make it a 34-day season. Some outlets estimate around 30 November or 1 December. All of these are estimates or leaks. We'll put the official date here once the new Battle Pass page shows it on 1 November. For everything else about the new season, see our Treasure Hunters guide.

What about Chapter 8? The wiki describes Treasure Hunters as the final season of Chapter 7. Leakers have pointed to Chapter 8 arriving between late November and early December. Epic hasn't announced Chapter 8 or a date for it. Our Chapter 8 release date page tracks the leaks and labels them as leaks.

When does the Fortnite OG season end?

Fortnite OG has its own season calendar, separate from the main game. The current season is OG Chapter 1: Season X "Out of Time". It started on 3 September 2026 and is listed on the Fortnite Wiki to end on 4 December 2026, which would make it about 92 days. That end date comes from the wiki and countdown sites, not from an Epic announcement, so treat the exact day as provisional.

Override ending on 1 November does not end the OG season. If that listed date holds, your OG Pass keeps running into December.

What happens when the Fortnite season ends?

Battle Pass rewards you've earned but not claimed: You keep them. Epic Player Support says: "If you forget to claim rewards from the Passes in Fortnite before the season ends, you will receive them automatically the next time you log in." What you lose are the levels you haven't reached. You can't buy or progress a past pass after the season ends.

Your Battle Pass level: Seasonal pass progress starts from scratch with the new pass. Your account level carries on.

Pass cosmetics coming back: Since Chapter 5 Season 4, Epic has said Battle Pass cosmetics may return to the Item Shop at least 18 months after their pass expires. It isn't guaranteed. The first returns arrived on 29 June 2026, so Override items wouldn't come back before roughly mid-2028 at the earliest.

Sprites: Override's Sprites are a season mechanic. When Season 3 ended, Epic kept collected Sprites in the Sprite Garden and on the Collection page, and reset Gizmos and Sprite Dust. Epic hasn't said yet whether Sprites carry into Treasure Hunters. Our Sprites after Override explainer has the details.

Fortnitemares 2026: The Halloween event runs inside Override, so it ends when the season does.

Season recap: Epic's per-season recap at fortnite.com/recap went live on 26 October. If you want your Override stats, see our Fortnite Recap guide before the page switches to the next season.

What should you finish before the season ends?

Priority order for your last 3 days:

  • Battle Pass levels you still want. Each level is 80,000 XP. If you're one or two levels short of a reward, do your daily quests and use XP islands now, while the level still counts. Epic hasn't announced an XP event for the final week.
  • Story and character quests tied to this season. Override's quest windows close with the season. That includes the Geno styles, which need Battle Pass level 85.
  • Sprite mastery during The Final Spritemare. 2x Sprite XP runs through Saturday, and Saturday's finale has boosted variants all day.
  • Claiming rewards. It isn't urgent, since claiming is automatic, but checking your pass tab confirms what you've actually earned.
  • Fortnitemares quests and free rewards. These end with the season, not on Halloween night.

Don't spend money on pass levels in the final hours unless you really want a specific reward. Passes and pass levels can't be refunded through Epic's returns system, which covers eligible Item Shop purchases and pays back V-Bucks, not cash.

How long does a Fortnite season usually last?

Full seasons have run roughly 73 to 110 days in Chapter 7. Mini-seasons are about a month. Here's the recent calendar from the Fortnite Wiki's season pages, with length counted as days between the start and end dates:

SeasonStartEndLength
Chapter 6 Season 47 Aug 20251 Nov 202586 days
Chapter 6 Mini Season 2 (The Simpsons)1 Nov 202529 Nov 202528 days
Chapter 7 Season 129 Nov 202519 Mar 2026110 days
Chapter 7 Season 219 Mar 20265 Jun 202678 days
Chapter 7 Season 36 Jun 202620 Aug 202675 days
Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override"20 Aug 20261 Nov 2026~73 days
Treasure Hunters (mini-season)1 Nov 20265 Dec 2026*~34 days*

*Wiki listing, not Epic-confirmed.

There's a clear pattern. November has had a short mini-season two years running, and new chapters have launched in late November or early December. That's why a Chapter 8 launch in early December would fit the calendar, but a pattern isn't an announcement.

How to check when the Fortnite season ends yourself

  • In game: open the Battle Pass tab. The days remaining are shown on the pass.
  • Epic's Battle Pass page: fortnite.com/battle-pass shows the end date in Eastern Time. It's the source we use.
  • @FortniteStatus on X: posts the exact downtime start in UTC, usually 1–2 days before an update.
  • status.epicgames.com: shows the maintenance window as it happens.

Avoid countdown sites that convert time zones automatically during the week of a clock change. A countdown built on 06:00 UTC will be an hour early for the US East Coast.
