Are these Season 2 healer rankings based on real data?
Straight answer first, because it matters more than the tier letters: Mythic+ Season 2 has not started, so there is no Season 2 Warcraft Logs data, no Raider.IO ladder, and no live keystone parses. Anybody publishing "Season 2 healer HPS rankings" on August 15 is either simulating or guessing.
What genuinely exists right now, and what this article is built from:
- Blizzard's official Curse of Ula'tek content update notes — the per-spec percentage changes, published on worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com ahead of the August 11 launch. These are facts, not projections.
- The 12.1 PTR tuning rounds — additional class tuning pushed after the first notes went out, including the Holy Paladin follow-up buff and the Restoration Druid Regrowth nerf.
- PTR testing and simulation by the theorycraft sites. Icy Veins' Mythic+ healer tier list for Patch 12.1 / Season 2 states its methodology plainly: rankings are based on PTR testing across healing throughput, personal damage, utility, mobility and survivability, and it was last updated August 9, 2026.
So treat the tiers below as a launch-day starting point, not a verdict. Tier sets, affix interaction and the first week of real keys will move things — as they always do. What will not change is the patch-note math, which is where we start.
What changed for healers in Patch 12.1?
The headline is not a spec change at all. Blizzard raised both sides of the equation at once. From the official content update notes:
"In Curse of Ula'tek, we've decided to increase player health and enemy damage by 25% for max level players... Our intent is for damage to be less spiky and for healing gameplay to be more satisfying. When healing is too bursty, enemies have to be tuned to deal spiky damage which requires quick reactions to survive, and we feel that leads to unsatisfying and more stressful gameplay."

Read that as a design thesis with a ranking consequence: steady, efficient, sustained healing is being favoured over reactive burst. Bigger health pools mean a global cooldown spent on a slow heal is less likely to be a global cooldown wasted on a corpse. Specs whose value was "I have the button that saves the pull from a one-shot" lose some of their edge; specs that pump consistent throughput and stay mana-positive gain.
Blizzard also shipped a healer quality-of-life change that is easy to skip in the notes: healers can now configure or hide the buffs shown on Raid Frames, "so the healing effects that matter most to you stay visible." For HoT-stacking specs this is a real gain in readability.

Two takeaways. First, Holy Paladin got the largest stacked buff of any healer in the patch — 19% then another 5%. Second, Mistweaver is the only healer with a flat nerf to all healing, and its compensating Mastery buff was partially clawed back when Morning Breeze was cut by 60% on the PTR. That is the whole story of why the two specs swapped places on most PTR lists.
The community read matched it immediately. On the official WoW forums' 12.1 healer changes thread, poster Enfers-3243064 summed up the surprise as "we're buffing disc and pres? HUH did i read that correctly." — while Plaguesqt-2994765 wrote that "Resto sham probably the one healer that got abandoned on the side of the road." The practical read for pugs: Holy Paladin and Restoration Shaman are the two lowest-friction picks. Holy Paladin because it brings Blessings, Aura Mastery and priority healing that fixes bad tank pulls; Restoration Shaman because Healing Stream and totem coverage does a lot of automatic work while you're moving, and Bloodlust is still the most requested buff in the game.
The read for organised keys: Preservation Evoker and Discipline Priest still win, because their damage contribution meaningfully shortens pulls, and a shorter pull is a smaller healing requirement. That is a group-composition argument, not a throughput one.

Raid healing rewards a different profile than keys: fewer, larger, scripted damage events; more value on raid-wide cooldowns; almost no value on 5-man utility. That flips the order.
This table is a projection, not a measurement. There are no Venomous Abyss logs — the raid is not open. It is built from the 12.1 patch-note changes above plus the PTR raid-testing consensus, and it will move once Mythic week one produces real parses.

Three honest recommendations, depending on what you actually want out of the season:
- You mostly pug keys and want the least stressful season: Holy Paladin. Biggest buff in the patch, best utility, and its weakness (low personal damage) barely matters below the top end of the ladder.
- You want to raid Mythic and heal the hardest checks: Preservation Evoker or Discipline Priest. Both are S-tier for The Venomous Abyss and both bring meaningful damage on top.
