Applies to: Battlefield 6, Season 5: Siege of Vegas, which EA's season page dates to October 13, 2026. Trial windows, platforms and conditions below come from EA's "Season 5 Roadmap: The Siege of Vegas Begins" (October 9, 2026) and the legal text on battlefield.com/disclaimers, both read October 12, 2026. Live build at the time of writing is Game Update 1.4.3.5.
Quick Answer
- There are two different sets of trial dates, and EA published both. The roadmap advertises "the Battlefield 6 Full Game Trial from October 15 to 19". EA's legal page gives platform-specific windows that do not match it.
- PlayStation starts first, on October 14 at 15:00 UTC, and runs to October 19 at 20:00 UTC. That is 5 days and 5 hours, and it opens a full day before the advertised October 15 start.
- Steam starts October 15 at 17:00 UTC and ends October 19 at 17:00 UTC — exactly 4 days, and 26 hours after PlayStation's window opens.
- EA's disclaimer lists only two platforms: "PlayStation, and Steam". Xbox is not in it. Xbox players get a different route instead — Battlefield 6 joins Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on October 13.
- Your progress is not throwaway. EA's trial guide states that progress "carries over to the full Battlefield 6 experience upon purchase".
- It is one bite per account. The disclaimer closes with "Trial can be played once per EA account."
- EA has not published a Season 5 trial guide yet. No playlist list, no map list, and no clock time for the Season 5 update itself on any of EA's four Season 5 pages.
This is a strange week to be a Battlefield 6 shopper. Inside a single week the game arrives on Game Pass, its biggest season goes live, a mode gets deleted, and the full game becomes free on two storefronts — and the dates for that last part are published in two places that disagree with each other. Here is what EA has committed to in writing.
When does the Battlefield 6 free trial start?
EA's marketing copy and its legal copy give different answers, so here are both.
The roadmap's closing line reads: "The battle begins October 13, with even more players joining the fight during the Battlefield 6 Full Game Trial from October 15 to 19". The double asterisk points at battlefield.com/disclaimers — a page whose heading reads "Battlefield 6 Season 5 Free Trial Oct 15-19" and whose body then contradicts that heading:
"Limited time free trial available on PlayStation, and Steam platforms. Trial runs from October 14 15:00 UTC to October 19, 2026 20:00 UTC on PlayStation; trial runs from October 15 17:00 UTC to October 19, 2026 17:00 UTC on Steam platform."
Both are EA's words on the same subject. The legal page is the more specific of the two, and it is the one the roadmap defers to, so these are the windows worth setting an alarm for.
| Platform | Opens | Closes | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation | October 14, 15:00 UTC | October 19, 20:00 UTC | 5 days 5 hours |
| Steam | October 15, 17:00 UTC | October 19, 17:00 UTC | 4 days 0 hours |
| Xbox | Not listed in EA's disclaimer | — | — |
| EA app / Epic | Not listed in EA's disclaimer | — | — |
Those lengths are our arithmetic on EA's published timestamps, not figures EA states. The consequence is blunt: a PlayStation player who takes "October 15 to 19" at face value loses the whole of October 14 from a five-day trial.
EA hedges in the same paragraph — "Trial time is subject to change and may vary by platform; see retailer site for details" — so check your own store page before planning a week around it.
Which platforms get the Battlefield 6 free trial?
EA's disclaimer names exactly two: "PlayStation, and Steam platforms". Xbox, the EA app and Epic are all absent from it.
That is not an oversight, and not a snub either. October 2026 is the month Battlefield 6 lands on Microsoft's subscription instead. Xbox Wire's October wave-one post lists "Battlefield 6 (Cloud, Xbox Series X and S, and PC) – October 13" on "Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass" — the day before the PlayStation trial opens, and on tiers rather than a countdown clock. Reading the exclusion as a deliberate split is our inference; EA has published no statement explaining it. It is the only reading that fits both documents.
The three free-or-cheap routes into Battlefield 6 this week are genuinely different products:
- The Full Game Trial is time-boxed, free, needs no subscription, and is limited to PlayStation and Steam.
- Game Pass is a paid subscription with no end date, arrives October 13, and covers Cloud, Xbox Series X and S, and PC on the Ultimate and PC Game Pass tiers only. Our Battlefield 6 Game Pass release date breakdown covers the tier split.
- EA Play is a third thing again. EA prices it at $5.99 a month or $39.99 a year, with EA Play Pro at $16.99 a month or $119.99 a year, and advertises "up to 10 hours of select new games before launch" as its trial benefit. Battlefield 6 does appear on the EA Play games list, but that page renders per-tier entitlements in the browser and serves nothing usable to a direct fetch — so check your own store rather than trusting anyone's claim about which tier includes what. Xbox Wire confirms one overlap: "Game Pass Ultimate subscribers get EA Play included, plus 10% off eligible EA digital purchases."
One condition catches console players: the trial disclaimer warns that "Access on console platforms may require a premium console account or subscription (sold separately)". A free trial on PlayStation still expects PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer.
How do you actually download the free trial?
EA has not published a Season 5 trial guide. It did publish a full one for the Season 2 trial in March 2026, and the access mechanism described there is structural rather than seasonal:
"To access the Free Trial, simply download the free-to-play Battlefield: REDSEC experience on your preferred gaming platform."
The same guide spells out the step most people miss: there is "no need to purchase Battlefield 6 in order to access the trial", because once REDSEC is installed and patched "the Battlefield 6 Free Trial will appear as a section of the main menu".
So the trial is not a separate download, a code, or a store coupon — it is a menu entry inside the free battle royale client. If you already play REDSEC's battle royale modes on PlayStation or Steam, the only things between you and the trial are the Season 5 update and the clock.
Treat that as the Season 2 precedent, not a Season 5 promise. EA has repeated the pattern across several trials, but has published nothing confirming it for this one.
What progress carries over from the free trial?
This is the part worth reading before you spend the window. From the Season 2 Free Trial guide:
"If you already play REDSEC, all your progress - Career Rank, Hardware Unlocks and Levels, Customization items, etc. - carries over to this Free Trial. All that progress also carries over to the full Battlefield 6 experience upon purchase; this Free Trial is your opportunity to try before you buy and keep everything you earn when it's over."
And if you never buy, the floor is still not zero: "after this date, you can continue playing Battlefield REDSEC for free, keeping any unlocks you earned during the free trial period."
The same page publishes the one real asterisk on trial XP, in its description of the Casual Breakthrough playlist: "Full Career XP, Weapon XP, and Battle Pass XP Progression, with reduced XP from Bot-related actions (e.g. downing a bot rather than a player)", on teams of "16 real players (8 per team) with 32 bot teammates/enemies (16 per team)". A second line names what does not stick: "Ability to complete Challenges, but Accolades, Dogtags, and Career Stat Updates won't be tracked."
Two things follow, and both are mistakes our readers make all year. Career XP and Weapon XP are separate economies, which is why days of rank-chasing leave your guns untouched — the full argument is in our Battlefield 6 weapon unlocks guide. And bot-heavy playlists pay less per kill, so farming bots inside a four-day window is the slowest possible use of it.
What is in Season 5 to play during the trial?
The trial lands one to two days into what EA's roadmap calls "our biggest season yet". The launch slate is live from October 13:
- Two new maps. Vegas Strip and Area 51. EA's developer guide names ten objectives across them, broken down in our Battlefield 6 new maps guide.
- Four new weapons. The Mk 24 assault rifle, RSPR submachine gun, Z84M light machine gun and ELR-40 bolt-action sniper rifle, which EA describes as having "the best bullet drag performance and the furthest sweet spot in its weapon archetype". Our Season 5 new weapons breakdown covers what EA has and has not published about unlocking them.
- Rapid Royale, in Trios and Solos. A condensed battle royale with "smaller player counts, high-value loot, and a relentless Ring of Fire".
- A new Ranked BR season, plus REDSEC's Open Series and multiplayer Leaderboards.
- A Dead Space crossover for Halloween, which EA calls the Convergence Event. It is announced, not detailed: "More details will be revealed as the event draws closer, but one thing is certain: some discoveries are best left buried."
And one deletion with a hard deadline. EA is explicit: "With the launch of Season 5, Gauntlet will leave Battlefield 6", and it "departs on October 13". If Gauntlet was on your list, the trial is too late — that door closes the day before the PlayStation window opens.
How much can you realistically unlock in four or five days?
Less than you want, and the reason is structural rather than a matter of effort.
A Battle Pass runs the length of a season. EA dates Season 5's phases at October 13, November 10 and December 8, so the season runs at least eight weeks from launch to its final phase — which makes a 4-day Steam window roughly 7% of it, and that is a ceiling, because EA has published no end date. Career XP and Battle Pass XP are earned together at a 1:1 ratio, so a trial sprint moves both tracks at once, but across a ladder built for two months.
Weapon progression is worse. Hardware XP only accrues on the specific gun in your hands, so four days spread across four brand-new weapons leaves four partial unlock tracks rather than one finished one — and attachment access, not ownership, is what makes a new gun usable.
The honest shape of the week: the trial is excellent for deciding whether you like Battlefield 6, and far too short to reach the full game with a competitive loadout.
Kept your trial progress and want to stop starting from behind? Everything you earn carries into the full game — these pick up where the window ran out.
- Battlefield 6 Account Leveling — Career XP and Battle Pass XP move together, so this is the track that unlocks functional hardware.
- Battlefield 6 Weapon Leveling — Hardware XP is per-gun. This is how the Mk 24, RSPR, Z84M and ELR-40 get their attachments.
- Battlefield 6 Career Rank Boost — for the rank-gated unlocks and Assignment thresholds a short trial cannot reach.
- Battlefield 6 Campaign — EA's Season 2 trial listed only multiplayer playlists, and pointed trial players at the campaign only after buying.
- All Battlefield 6 services — the full list, including vehicle leveling and bot lobbies.
What has EA not published yet?
We swept the four Season 5 pages EA has published for a clock time — the season page, the roadmap, the October 1 preview "Battlefield 6/REDSEC: Looking Ahead To Season 5 And Beyond", and the Siege of Vegas community update. There are none. Across all four, EA has published no hour, no UTC stamp and no regional time for the Season 5 update itself. The only clock times EA has published in this window are the two in the trial disclaimer.
There is also no Season 5 free trial guide. EA shipped a dedicated one for Season 2 with playlists, maps and tips; the equivalent Season 5 page returns a 404 today. So nobody can currently tell you which playlists the trial includes, whether Vegas Strip and Area 51 are in it, or whether Rapid Royale is. Any article that does is guessing.
Players are filling the gap themselves. On r/Battlefield6 one poster asking what time Season 5 goes live was told "It's not today. It's tomorrow and the time was always 12 PM UTC" — and that number has a real pedigree rather than being invented. EA's Game Update 1.4.3.0 notes split the last seasonal launch into two stamps: "At 8:00 UTC, the update becomes available to download across all platforms", then "At 12:00 UTC, Season 4: Tidal Strike content goes live". EA's Season 2 free trial also opened at 12 p.m. UTC. So an 8:00 UTC download and a 12:00 UTC content unlock is the pattern, and another player reported the in-game screen simply says October 13. Treat 12:00 UTC as a well-founded inference from EA's own last season launch, not as a figure EA has published for this one.
What happens after the trial ends?
The season does not stop at October 19. EA has dated both later phases:
- Casino Heist, November 10. A limited-time event moving the fight inside the European Casino, which EA calls "a new infantry-focused battleground where close-quarters combat takes center stage".
- Frozen Aces, December 8. Operation High Roller, plus Platoons and Server Browser, reworked versions of Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City, and the B-81 Cavalry.
If you convert after the trial, that is what you are buying into — two more dated content drops, not just the two launch maps you sampled.
FAQ
Is the Battlefield 6 free trial actually the full game? EA calls it the "Full Game Trial" on the roadmap and the "Free Trial" in its legal text. Its Season 2 guide restricted the trial to three multiplayer playlists rather than opening the whole game, and steered trial players toward buying in order to play the campaign. EA has published no playlist list for the Season 5 trial, so assume multiplayer access rather than literally everything.
What time does the Battlefield 6 free trial start in my timezone? Convert from the two UTC stamps EA published. PlayStation opens at 15:00 UTC on October 14 — 11:00 a.m. Eastern, 8:00 a.m. Pacific, 6:00 p.m. Moscow. Steam opens at 17:00 UTC on October 15 — 1:00 p.m. Eastern, 10:00 a.m. Pacific, 8:00 p.m. Moscow. EA adds that the trial time "is subject to change and may vary by platform".
Can I play the free trial on Xbox? EA's disclaimer lists only PlayStation and Steam, so no Xbox trial has been announced. Xbox players have a separate route: per Xbox Wire, Battlefield 6 joins Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on October 13, a day before the PlayStation trial opens.
Does free trial progress carry over if I buy the game? Yes, per EA. Its trial guide states that all progress "also carries over to the full Battlefield 6 experience upon purchase". Unlocks stay usable in the free REDSEC client even if you never buy. Accolades, Dogtags and Career Stat Updates are the documented exceptions in bot-backfilled playlists.
Can I play the trial twice, or on a second account? Not on the same EA account. The disclaimer ends with "Trial can be played once per EA account." EA does not say whether a second EA account qualifies.
Do I need PlayStation Plus for the free trial? Probably. EA's disclaimer states that "Access on console platforms may require a premium console account or subscription (sold separately)" — the standard way of saying online multiplayer needs the platform's own paid tier.

Trial lengths of 5 days 5 hours and 4 days 0 hours, the 26-hour gap between the two platform openings, the roughly 7% share of an at-least-eight-week season and the timezone conversions are our arithmetic on EA's published timestamps.
