Applies to: Battlefield 6 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Season 5: Siege of Vegas launches October 13, 2026. Objective names, dev tips and design notes are taken from EA's "Vegas Insider: A Developer's Map Guide to Vegas Strip and Area 51", published October 9, 2026, and the "Season 5 Roadmap: The Siege of Vegas Begins", published the same day. Live build at the time of writing is Game Update 1.4.3.5.

Quick Answer

  • Two new maps arrive at Season 5 launch on October 13: Vegas Strip and Area 51. A third, the European Casino, arrives with the Casino Heist update on November 10.
  • EA has named ten objectives across the two maps — four on Vegas Strip and six on Area 51 — in its own developer map guide. That is our count of the headings in EA's Battle Breakdown sections.
  • Area 51 is not simply the vehicle map. Three of its six named objectives are stacked inside The Crater, underground, in close quarters. The desert above it is the part that belongs to armour and aircraft.
  • Vegas Strip is a vertical map, not a street map. EA's routes into its first objective are a valet area, staff entrances, ziplines to a rooftop, and a drop through a collapsed dome.
  • One objective changes state mid-match. The Aircraft Control Tower on Area 51 starts as a sniper nest and can be brought down, which moves the fight into the rubble.
  • EA has published no size figure for either map. Neither article states a dimension, an area, or a comparison to an existing map, so every bigger-than-Tsuru-Reef claim circulating right now is a guess.
  • Gauntlet leaves the game the same day, October 13, and a free Full Game Trial runs October 15 to 19.

These two maps are opposites. One is a dense vertical city where the fight happens inside buildings and under the street; the other is a combined-arms desert with a close-quarters warren hidden beneath it. The same loadout will not carry you across both.

EA did something unusual in the run-up: it published a developer map guide two days before launch, with named objectives, design rationale and tips from the teams that built each map. Below is every objective it named, and what each one implies for the gun and the vehicle you should bring.

How many new maps does Season 5 actually add?

Three across the whole season, and only two on October 13.

EA's September 30 community update set the count plainly: "three new maps taking us to Vegas across the whole season (including two ready for action right at launch)". The October 9 roadmap confirms the split — "The action begins at launch with Vegas Strip and Area 51, with another new map arriving later in the season" — and names the third. It is the European Casino, arriving with the Casino Heist update on November 10, described as "a new infantry-focused battleground where close-quarters combat takes center stage".

Worth stating precisely, because the season holds two other map-shaped items that are not new maps. The Frozen Aces update on December 8 "introduces Operation High Roller along with several highly requested features, including Platoons and Server Browser" — EA never calls Operation High Roller a map anywhere on the page. The same paragraph says players "can also return to Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City, both of which have been updated based on community feedback", which makes those two reworks, not additions.

The honest count: three new maps, two reworked, one unlabelled item in December.

Vegas Strip: all four objectives

EA frames the whole map around variety rather than scale: "One moment you're fighting through a hotel lobby, the next you're pushing through storm drains beneath the boulevard or trading shots from an upper-floor hotel room."

Olympus Pools. An infantry objective built around vertical combat. EA's route list is the most specific thing in the guide: "Players can enter through the valet area, push through staff entrances, or use ziplines to reach the rooftop before dropping through the collapsed dome overhead." Four approach vectors, three of them above ground level.

Note a wrinkle in EA's own guide here. The objective heading reads Olympus Pools, but the first line of the body describes "The Olympus Lobby". EA's own screenshot of the area shows a pool deck with a seated trident-bearing statue and a fountain, so the pools are real. Expect both names in circulation until the update notes settle it.

Crater and Storm Drains. The centre of the map, and effectively two objectives in one. Above ground it is "exposed streets and debris fields" around the wreckage of a destroyed PAX convoy. Below it, "storm drains and tunnels create a completely different experience, with tight corridors and close-range engagements that offer a safer route through the middle of the map." The dev tip is explicit that the wreck is usable: "The destroyed PAX convoy can provide valuable cover when moving through the center of the map."

Karat Plaza. A public square with fountains and vegetation, and the map's one destructible objective feature: "A destructible casino sign sits at the center of the objective and can dramatically change how the area plays once it comes down." EA puts most engagements here at medium range, with longer sightlines developing around the edges.

Art Deco. A hotel whose centre has been torn out. "Heavy battle damage has ripped through the center of this hotel, leaving a collapsed interior filled with rubble." Ground vehicles pressure the outside while the infantry fight stays inside the structure.

What should you run on Vegas Strip?

Three of the four objectives are interiors or sub-street tunnels, and the fourth is medium-range. That weights the map hard toward close-quarters primaries and against bolt-actions. Our SMG rankings by recoil and velocity and shotgun breakdown both matter more here than the sniper tier list does.

For vehicles, the roadmap's description of the map names two types and not a third: "helicopters weave through skyscrapers overhead and armored vehicles tear through the city below". The dev tip reinforces the air half — "Helicopters can use the city's skyline to reposition quickly and attack from unexpected angles" — which is the same repositioning logic behind our attack helicopter and Little Bird guide.

The team's own warning is the most quotable line in the guide, and it is about movement rather than aim: "Don't charge straight down the Vegas Strip. Use cover, alternate routes, and squad support whenever possible." Two of the six Vegas tips are route advice, one is about securing rooftops before pushing, and one is about using vehicles purely to cross ground. None of them is about a weapon.

Area 51: all six objectives

Area 51 splits in two. The roadmap puts it bluntly: "tanks, helicopters, and jets dominate the desert above while fierce infantry fights unfold below."

The Comms Area. On a hill overlooking the battlefield, centred on a communications building and parking lot, with "strong sightlines across nearby approaches" for defenders and aerial combat over the top of it.

Crash Site. A downed aircraft has made this stretch of road "a major vehicle combat zone". Ground vehicles clash around the wreckage while nearby hangars give infantry cover to challenge armour from.

Helipad. Built into the mountainside as an overwatch position. Its elevation "provides clear sightlines toward several objectives", which EA says makes it popular with Recon and useful as an anti-air platform.

The Crater. The infantry heart of the map, and the single most important thing to understand about Area 51: "A massive impact has exposed sections of the underground facility, creating a network of tunnels, garages, abandoned laboratories, and defensive positions beneath the desert surface. Three objectives are packed into this area, which keeps infantry in constant close-quarters combat as teams fight for control of the underground."

Aircraft Control Tower. The only objective EA describes as changing over the course of a match: "At the start of the match, the upper floors serve as a powerful sniper nest overlooking much of the battlefield. Leave it standing and defenders can lock down large sections of the map. Bring it down, and the fight shifts to the rubble below."

Climate Testing Hangars. Two hangars with opposite characters. "The Hot Climate Hangar creates a constant battle between infantry and armored vehicles" around a central platform, while "The Cold Climate Hangar narrows the focus with an infantry-heavy objective built around a testing facility filled with experimental aircraft."

Why Area 51 is not the map you think it is

Count the objectives by terrain and the picture inverts. Of six, The Crater holds three on its own, underground, in tunnels and laboratories. The Climate Testing Hangars are interiors. That leaves the Comms Area, the Crash Site and the Helipad genuinely exposed to vehicles — and the Aircraft Control Tower stops being a sniper position the moment someone drops it.

Area 51 is therefore a vehicle map on the surface and an objective-dense infantry map underneath, built that way deliberately: "The crater received particular attention throughout development. The team continued refining its tunnels, labs, and interior routes to create a connected infantry experience at the center of the map while keeping it closely tied to the larger battle happening above."

The dev tips split along the same line — "Pilots should make use of the surrounding mountain range when moving around the battlefield" and "Engineers are especially valuable here, helping slow armored vehicle pushes and defend key objectives" above, versus "Keep pressure on the underground objectives. Holding the crater network can give your team a strong foothold in the center of the map" below.

What should you run on Area 51?

Two loadouts, not one, because the surface and the Crater ask for opposite things.

Above ground, the long open sightlines are the reason EA pointed its new sniper rifle at this map specifically: the ELR-40 "features the best bullet drag performance and the furthest sweet spot in its weapon archetype, making it particularly well suited for the open sightlines of our new map, Area 51." If you intend to hold the Helipad or the control tower, the sweet-spot and velocity numbers for every bolt-action are the table to read first, and the full Season 5 weapon list covers what EA has and has not published about unlocking the ELR-40.

Underground, none of that applies. Three objectives in a tunnel network is PDW and shotgun territory, with Engineer gadgets doing the work at the garage entrances.

For the desert itself, Engineer is the named answer and the counter-armour kit is the deciding factor, which is exactly the matchup in our anti-vehicle loadout guide. If you are flying rather than shooting down, the jet changes shipping with Season 5 are covered in our jets guide.

The grind the new maps create

Two maps with opposite demands means two sets of hardware you may not have levelled. Attachments in Battlefield 6 are earned per weapon through Hardware XP, not through Career Rank, so arriving at Area 51 with an unlevelled bolt-action — or at the Crater with an unlevelled PDW — means playing without the optics and barrels that make those guns work at those ranges. Vehicle unlocks sit behind the same per-vehicle track.

If you would rather spend Season 5's opening week learning two new maps than farming the hardware to play them properly, we handle the hardware:

What EA still has not published about these maps

Three things, and they all matter for the launch-week discussion.

No size or scale figure. We searched both October 9 articles for every dimension token — size, kilometre, acre, largest, square. The only hit in either article is Karat Plaza's "large public square", which is a place rather than a unit of area. Neither article states a dimension, and neither compares either map to an existing one. The scale threads currently running on the Battlefield subreddits, including the ones measuring Area 51 against Tsuru Reef, are reading screenshots rather than published numbers.

No per-map vehicle list. EA's prose names tanks, helicopters and jets for Area 51, and helicopters and armoured vehicles for Vegas Strip. That is a description, not a whitelist, and no per-map vehicle table exists for either one.

No start time. The roadmap states the date, October 13, three times, and never states a time. Based on EA's commitment that "Update Notes go live the day before the season goes live", the full breakdown should land around October 12.

Launch week calendar

  • October 13 — Season 5: Siege of Vegas begins. Vegas Strip and Area 51 go live. Gauntlet leaves Battlefield 6 the same day, which our Gauntlet removal guide covers in full. Rapid Royale Trios and Solos join REDSEC.
  • October 15 to 19 — the free Battlefield 6 Full Game Trial. Five days to play both new maps without owning the game.
  • Halloween — the Convergence Event, a limited-time Dead Space crossover that EA ties to "a dark discovery beneath Area 51" and a Marker hidden in the facility. EA has published no date for it.
  • November 10 — Casino Heist, which adds the European Casino as the season's third new map.
  • December 8 — Frozen Aces, bringing Operation High Roller, Platoons, Server Browser, and updated versions of Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City.

FAQ

How many objectives do Vegas Strip and Area 51 have? EA's developer map guide names four on Vegas Strip (Olympus Pools, Crater and Storm Drains, Karat Plaza, Art Deco) and six on Area 51 (the Comms Area, Crash Site, Helipad, The Crater, Aircraft Control Tower, Climate Testing Hangars) — ten in total, counted from EA's Battle Breakdown headings. EA has published no flag count per game mode, so what you see in a Conquest match may differ.

Is Area 51 bigger than Tsuru Reef? Nobody can answer that from published information. EA states no size, area or dimension for either new map, and makes no comparison to any existing map. Anyone quoting a figure before October 13 is estimating from screenshots.

Will the Season 4 jets still be usable in Season 5? EA's Area 51 description names "tanks, helicopters, and jets", so jets are present in Season 5 content. EA has published no per-map vehicle list, so whether a specific Season 4 aircraft appears on a specific map is not officially confirmed.

Is Olympus Pools the same place as the Olympus Lobby? They appear to be the same objective. EA titles the section Olympus Pools and opens the body with "The Olympus Lobby is an infantry-focused objective centered around vertical combat." The screenshot shows the pool deck and statue, and the objective includes a rooftop and a collapsed dome — a labelling inconsistency rather than two points.

Can I play the new maps without buying Battlefield 6? Temporarily, yes. The Full Game Trial runs October 15 to 19, 2026, and the game also reaches Game Pass on October 13, covered in our Game Pass release guide. Both are subject to EA's conditions and restrictions.

Which class should I bring to the new maps? Engineer is the only class EA names in its Area 51 tips, for slowing armoured pushes and defending objectives. Recon is named on both maps for elevated positions and intel. Vegas Strip's tips otherwise talk about routes, cover and rooftops rather than classes — fitting a map where three of four objectives are interiors.
