Quick answer: EA SPORTS FC 27 players are reporting that the Streamlined (Simplified) SBC selection list can render the wrong card — a cheap bronze appears in the slot while the game actually submits a far more valuable Player Item from your Club. The tell is an Item Score that does not match the rating on the card: a 48-rated bronze showing 21,000 score is not a jackpot, it is a mis-drawn row. And EA's policy is unambiguous — "SBC submissions are final, and EA Advisors can't restore submitted Player Items." If a row's score looks impossible, back out of the SBC entirely and re-enter before you select anything.
This is the most expensive bug currently live in FC 27 Ultimate Team, and expensive in a specific way: it does not break your game, it silently converts a seven-figure card into a Gold Pack.
Current FC 27 phase: full release (worldwide launch 25 September 2026), Season 1 live, Destined for Glory running to 9 October 2026, Title Update 1.0.1 the newest patch.

What exactly are players reporting?
The report that surfaced this went up on r/EASportsFC late on 28 September 2026 and became the most-discussed thread on the subreddit within hours (original post, 84 comments and 57 upvotes at the time of writing). Paraphrasing, with no handles quoted:
The player opened a club-specific Player SBC to farm Gallery score. The eligible-items list opened sorted ascending; they switched it to descending. A 48-rated bronze sorted to the very top of that list carrying a displayed contribution of 21,000 Item Score. Assuming a display quirk tied to that one obscure card, they added it plus one gold and submitted — having inspected the player profile first, which still showed the bronze.
Back in the Club, the bronze was still there. Missing instead was a 90-rated ICON the player values at roughly 3 million coins. Nothing in the submission flow — card design, rarity colour, player details — had indicated a different item was being exchanged.
A second player in the thread described the same behaviour independently, and gave the workaround away for free: a bronze keeps appearing in the list until you switch tabs, at which point the row resolves into the real card. They said they nearly lost an Ones to Watch Bouaddi the same way.
That second account is the important one. It reframes this from "one unlucky player" into a rendering desync in the eligible-items list — the row you see is stale, the item the server has selected is not.
Why does a 48-rated bronze show 21,000 Item Score?
This is where the numbers give the bug away.
Item Score is not arbitrary. EA's Launch Update Pitch Notes set out the formula: "Every Player Item in Football Ultimate Team™ has an Item Score based on its OVR, Rarity, and Holographic status. This same scoring system is used across both Streamlined SBCs and Gallery." Each OVR has a base score; rarity and Holographic bonuses multiply it.
Community trackers — EA publishes no numeric Item Score table anywhere, so every value below is community-captured and should be checked against your own cards — have mapped those multipliers precisely. Campaign rarities (Ones to Watch, Destined for Glory) run at 1.25× base, ICONs at a clean 1.5×, and bronze/silver items sit in a 20–35 point band. Run the reported card through it:
| Item | Base score | Rarity multiplier | Item Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular gold 90 | 14,000 | 1.0× | 14,000 |
| Campaign 90 (OTW/DFG) | 14,000 | 1.25× | 17,500 |
| ICON 90 | 14,000 | 1.5× | 21,000 |
| 48-rated bronze | ~20–35 | 1.0× | ~20–35 |
21,000 is the exact community-tracked Item Score of a 90-rated ICON — not a corrupted number, not a placeholder, and roughly 700 times what a low bronze contributes. The score field was already reporting the ICON while the card art, name and player profile still drew the bronze.
So the single most useful rule here: in the Streamlined SBC list, the Item Score is the honest field and the card is the liar. If the number is impossible for the rating you are looking at, the row is mis-drawn. Stop.

What does one mis-submission actually cost?
1. Against the efficient route. At the FC 27 market floors captured on 26 September, the 80–84 gold band was compressed onto a 600–650 coin floor while an 84 carries 830 base Item Score — making the 84 the cheapest score in the game at roughly 0.78 coins per Item Score point. Reaching 21,000 score with 84s takes about 26 cards, roughly 16,900 coins.
| Route to 21,000 Item Score | Cards | Coin cost | Coins per score point |
|---|---|---|---|
| 84-rated gold fodder | ~26 | ~16,900 | 0.78 |
| One 90 ICON (reported value) | 1 | ~3,000,000 | ~143 |
That is a 177× overpay — about 2.98 million coins of club value destroyed to do a job 16,900 coins does better.
2. Against the reward. EA documents partial-completion payouts for Simplified SBCs you never finish, banded by score submitted:
| Item Score submitted | Partial completion reward |
|---|---|
| 3,501 – 10,000 | Gold Pack |
| 10,001 – 25,000 | Small Gold Player Pack |
| 25,001 – 50,000 | Large Gold Player Pack |
| 50,001 – 100,000 | Jumbo Gold Player Pack |
A 21,000-score ICON banked into an SBC you then abandon lands in the 10,001–25,000 band. A 3 million coin ICON becomes one untradeable Small Gold Player Pack. EA also states plainly that "The Player Items you've already submitted aren't returned to your Club" — and that submitted items leave your Club immediately on partial progress, so the card is gone the instant you confirm, not when the challenge completes.
Will EA give the card back?
No — and this is not an advisor being unhelpful, it is written policy. EA's Squad Building Challenges help article, updated within the last week, says it twice — once in the body and again in its own FAQ ("Can I recover Player Items submitted to an SBC? No."):
"Any Player Item you submit is permanently removed from your Club. SBC submissions are final, and EA Advisors can't restore submitted Player Items."
So a support ticket asking for a restore has a documented answer before you open it. That changes the route:
- File it as a bug report, not a restore request. EA runs a dedicated FC 27 Bug Reports board on the EA Forums. A report naming the symptom — eligible-items list rendering a stale card, Item Score mismatched to rating, submission taking a different item — with your platform, the SBC name and a clip is worth far more than a ticket asking for coins back.
- The precedent is a fix plus goodwill, not a rollback. On Web App day, 16 September 2026, FC 27 shipped a different wrong-item bug: players opening packs received incorrect Player Items. Per The Mirror's reporting it was fixed roughly five hours later, with EA saying affected players would be granted the correct items in the following days. That is the realistic shape of a resolution — a global server-side fix plus a compensation grant, not a per-account reversal.
- Do not wait on it. Treat the card as gone while you report it.

How do you stop this happening to you?
Six steps. The first three cost nothing and stop the reported failure mode; the rest are structural.
1. Read the score, not the card. Before every submission, check each row's Item Score is plausible for its rating: bronze and silver in the low tens, an 84 gold at 830, a 90 ICON at 21,000. A mismatch is a mis-drawn row, full stop.
2. Force a redraw before you select — and don't trust the profile. Two independent reports say the phantom bronze resolves into the real card after switching tabs. Open the SBC, switch tab or back out and re-enter, then start selecting; never select on the first list your sort change produces. And note the original reporter inspected the card profile before confirming and it still showed the bronze — profile inspection is not a safety check here. The Item Score is.
3. Avoid the descending sort on a club with valuables in it. Both reports involve a high-value item surfacing where it should not. If your fodder plan is cheap golds, sort ascending and fill from the cheap end — your best cards never reach the screen.
4. Park your untouchables in an Evolution. The only hard lock EA documents: "You can't submit Evolution Players in Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) while they're still in progress." Know the cost first — "Once a Player is submitted to a standard Evolution slot, they become untradeable", and "Removing an Evolution is final and can't be undone." A Training Camp Evolution is the softer version, benching the player for a time EA says "can last from a few hours to more than 30 days." Our Training Camp Evolutions guide covers the lock-out windows, and how to un-Evo a card what you never get back.
5. Consider transfer-listing your best cards while you grind SBCs. Long-standing FUT behaviour is that the SBC item picker draws from your Club, not your transfer list. EA does not document this as a safety feature, so treat it as a community habit, not a guarantee. It is still free.
6. Treat the overshoot warning as a stop sign. EA: "If your selected Player Items greatly exceed the required Item Score, you'll get a warning before completing the submission." If it fires when your selection looks cheap, something is wrong with the selection — cancel, do not confirm. EA's pre-submission checklist belongs next to it: "review every Player Item you're exchanging" and "make sure you want to permanently exchange the selected Player Items."
Does it happen on the Web App and Companion App too?
Mostly not yet. EA's Launch Update is explicit: "Streamlined SBCs will be available on console and PC at launch and are intended to release in the Companion App later in Season 1." So for most of launch week the format has been in-game only — which is why every report of this bug describes a console or PC session.
On 28 September a community post reported Streamlined SBCs appearing in the Web App. EA has published nothing confirming a Web App or Companion App rollout as of 29 September 2026, so treat that as unconfirmed — and if it is live for your account, a brand-new surface for a brand-new format deserves more caution with high-value cards, not less. (If your Web App is misbehaving for other reasons, our Web App error guide covers every message in circulation.)
Which SBCs are actually worth the risk right now?
Risk is a function of how many valuables sit in your eligible pool, not of the SBC itself. But targets matter, because overshooting a repeatable SBC is pure waste — leftover score does not carry between completions. Live Season 1 Streamlined targets, captured 26 September 2026 (community-tracked; verify in-game):
| SBC | Item Score target | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze / Silver Re-Roll | 500 | repeatable |
| Gold Re-Roll | 1,250 | repeatable; 2× 78+ Gold Players Pack, untradeable |
| Ones to Watch Bouaddi (83 OTW) | 20,000 | one-off |
| Antonio Nusa Destined for Glory (85 LW reward) | 75,000 | one-off; trackers price the set at 65,400–71,700 coins |
Note the overlap: the Bouaddi OTW challenge at 20,000 sits almost exactly where a mis-submitted 90 ICON lands at 21,000. A target that size means filling with 25-plus cards — precisely the grind where people sort descending to save clicks. Don't.
EA has also said the numbers can move: "We'll continue monitoring Item Scores throughout EA SPORTS FC™ 27. If adjustments are needed based on player feedback or live data, we'll provide significant advance notice before making any changes." Any table, ours included, is a snapshot. For which challenges pay back more than they cost, our Season 1 Upgrade SBC coin-return breakdown does the per-SBC math.

FAQ
Can EA give me back a player an SBC took by mistake? No. EA's help article states it directly: "SBC submissions are final, and EA Advisors can't restore submitted Player Items." Report it on the EA Forums FC 27 Bug Reports board with your platform, the SBC name and a clip — a server-side fix plus a compensation grant is the only realistic outcome.
How do I know if a card in the SBC list is mis-drawn? Compare its Item Score to its rating. Bronze and silver track in the 20–35 point band, an 84 gold at 830, a 90 ICON at 21,000. Any row whose score is wildly wrong for the card shown is stale — back out of the SBC and re-enter before selecting anything.
Is there any way to make a card impossible to submit? Yes, one EA documents: put it in an Evolution. "You can't submit Evolution Players in Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) while they're still in progress." A standard Evolution makes the card untradeable and removal is final; a Training Camp Evolution only benches it for a set period, from a few hours to more than 30 days.
What happens to a card I submit if I never finish the SBC? It is gone, and you get a banded consolation pack — a Small Gold Player Pack for 10,001–25,000 Item Score, the band a mis-submitted 90 ICON falls into. EA confirms "The Player Items you've already submitted aren't returned to your Club."
Are Streamlined and Simplified SBCs the same thing? Yes. EA's Pitch Notes call the score-based format Streamlined SBCs; EA Help articles call the same feature Simplified SBCs. Both are official EA terminology for the format that replaces squad-building with an Item Score target.
