FC 27 There Was an Error Creating Your Game Session: 6 Fixes to Try (Daily Knockout, Rivals)

"There was an error creating your game session. Please try again." is FC 27 failing at the exact moment it tries to build your match, not when it connects you to Ultimate Team. Your menus load, your club loads, you press Play, and the match is refused. In EA SPORTS FC 27 the same dialog has hit Division Rivals, Squad Battles, the Ultimate Scream live event and, this week, the new Season 2 Daily Knockout Tournament. The good news: the only version EA has publicly fixed was caused by one specific player item in the squad, and that is something you can test yourself in a few minutes.

This guide is written for Season 2 of EA FC 27 (22 October to 3 December 2026), with Title Update 1.1.0 live since 27 October and the first gameplay update, 1.2.0, expected mid-November. It covers which modes are affected, the six fixes in the order worth trying, and how to protect your Daily Knockout and Rivals rewards while the error is active.

TLDR: the FC 27 game-session error in 30 seconds. The error means match creation failed, not that you are banned or offline. Fix 1: fully quit FC 27 and relaunch (not just back to the main menu). Fix 2: start the same mode with a plain test squad. If that works, an item in your main squad is the trigger. EA fixed exactly this for Curtis Jones earlier in FC 27. Fix 3: find the bad item by halving the squad, which takes 5 attempts for 32 suspects instead of up to 31 one-by-one swaps. Never quick sell or discard the item to test it. Fix 4: if only the Daily Knockout fails and "Your progress" says "No entries", back out of the tournament and re-enter it. Fix 5: restart the console or PC and router, and on PC repair the game files. Fix 6: report it to EA with the time, mode and squad items. The Daily Knockout objective needs 7 of 8 challenges for Olga Carmona, so a lost day is recoverable.

What does "There was an error creating your game session" mean in FC 27?

EA doesn't document what happens behind the Play button, but the wording and the reports point one way. Roughly, Ultimate Team checks your squad is valid for the mode, asks EA's servers to create a game session, and then matchmakes you. This error looks like that middle step failing. That is why it feels so random: your coins, club and Transfer Market can all work while every Rivals or tournament match is refused.

It is not the same problem as two other FC 27 errors people mix it up with:

• "Connecting to Football Ultimate Team is not possible at the moment" stops you getting into FUT at all. That is a connection or server problem (see our FC 27 can't connect to EA servers guide).
• "Only the player associated with the current Ultimate Team account may start a game session" is an input-device problem, usually a keyboard or second controller (see our fix for that exact error).

If your error says "error creating your game session," you are in the right place.

Which FC 27 modes are hitting the error right now?

The reports cluster in a pattern, and the pattern is the most useful clue you have.

On the PS5 bug report, a player says the Daily Knockout refuses every match with the game-session error, and when they check "Your progress" it shows "No entries" (EA Forums, FC 27 Bug Reports). On the Ultimate Team board, a Steam player describes the same Daily Knockout error "for hours," and another reply says they can play Rush, Squad Battles, tournaments and Online Seasons but not Rivals (EA Forums, FC 27 Ultimate Team). On 30 October an r/fut player hit it in the cup that unlocks Olga Carmona while Rivals and Squad Battles started normally, and said they met the team requirements (r/fut).

What that pattern suggests: when one mode fails and the others start, your internet is unlikely to be the problem. The two most likely explanations are that something in your squad doesn't sit right with that mode's session, or that your entry in that event is stuck. Fixes 2 to 4 below target exactly those two causes.

Has EA fixed the FC 27 game-session error before?

Yes, once, and the cause is the most important fact in this article. Early in FC 27, a PC player who had just bought the Ultimate Edition reported that Rivals, Squad Battles and other modes all failed with this error (EA Forums thread 13725957). The thread includes this reply from EA's community team:

"Hey folks, I've got some great news! You should now be able to have Curtis Jones in your squad and play a game as normal." (EA community team reply, EA Forums FC 27 Ultimate Team board)

In other words: one player item in the squad was breaking session creation, and EA fixed it on their side. An Xbox player on r/EAFC described the same kind of thing with a different card. Their match failed at session start until they worked out that an Ayyoub Bouaddi item in their squad was the cause (r/EAFC). That is a player report, not EA confirmation, but it fits the same pattern.

Two more things are worth knowing:

• EA has not published a fix line for this error. We checked every FC 27 patch note on ea.com. Title Update 1.1.0 lists 147 fixes and none of them names it (EA, Title Update v1.1.0). The closest line is a matchmaking-queue fix: players who lost connection while queuing "may remain stuck on the queue screen indefinitely without receiving a notification." The Curtis Jones fix was server-side, so it never needed a patch note.
• It happened last year too. In FC 26's launch window, the Early Access Elimination tournament threw the identical message for days after a daily reset, across several EA Forums threads. Tournament-style events that keep your progress between days seem especially prone to it.

How do you fix "There was an error creating your game session"? (Fixes 1 to 3)

Work down the list. Each fix is cheap, and none of them risks a card.

Fix 1: Fully quit FC 27 and relaunch. Not "back to main menu," and not resuming a suspended game on console. Close the application and start it again so FUT creates a brand-new session. The only reply on the 30 October r/fut thread said exactly this worked for them after being kicked at kick-off several times in a row. It is the right first step because it costs one minute.

Fix 2: Try the same mode with a plain test squad. Build a new squad from ordinary gold items: no promo cards, no evolved players, no loans, no freshly claimed SBC or objective rewards. Then start the failing mode with it. Some modes and events have squad requirements, so make sure the test squad meets them. If that squad gets into a match, the problem is in your main squad, not your connection.

Fix 3: Find the bad item by halving, not by swapping one card at a time.

Count the special items in your main squad, including subs and reserves. In the Curtis Jones case the item only had to be in the squad, not starting. Swap half of them for plain golds and press Play:

• Match starts? The bad item is in the half you removed. Put back half of those.
• Error again? The bad item is in the half still in the squad. Remove half of those.

Each attempt halves the suspects. With 8 suspects that is 3 attempts, with 16 it is 4, and with 32 it is 5. Swapping cards one at a time could take 31 attempts for the same 32 suspects. The method assumes one item is causing the error every time, that your replacement golds are known to work, and that each test squad still meets the mode's requirements. In the reports, a failing attempt is refused before matchmaking, so it costs no match. A test that works will start a real match, though, so for Rivals either play it out or test in a mode where a result doesn't matter to you.

When you find the item, park it in your club and keep playing without it until EA fixes it. Report it with its exact name and version (Fix 6), because that is exactly what EA needed for Curtis Jones.

Should you quick sell the card that causes it?

No. One player in the EA Forums launch thread said an EA live-chat agent told them to discard the item. Don't. The Curtis Jones fix shows the problem was on EA's side, and the card was playable again afterwards.

How do you fix it in the Daily Knockout Tournament? (Fix 4)

The Daily Knockout Tournament is new for Season 2. EA describes it as "the PvP Daily Knockout Tournament. Take on other players in knockout competition as Season 2 brings back another piece of Ultimate Team history" (EA, Season 2: FC Heritage). Because it is a knockout, your entry carries state: which round you are in, whether you were knocked out, and which daily run you belong to. That is where the "No entries" reports point.

Fix 4: Reset your tournament entry.

• Open the Daily Knockout Tournament and check Your progress.
• If it says "No entries" or shows a round you already played, back out of the event fully, return to the Live Events hub and re-enter.
• If the event offers to leave or forfeit the current run, only do that when you are already knocked out in practice, because a forfeit can count as a loss.
• Relaunch once more (Fix 1), and if it still fails, try again after the next daily content refresh.
• Still blocked? Run Fixes 2 and 3 with the Daily Knockout itself, since a squad-item problem can show up in one mode first.

The FC 26 Early Access Elimination precedent is the reason for step 4. Players stuck in that event were sitting on a tournament run that had straddled the daily reset, and the error only cleared once a fresh run could start. We can't confirm FC 27 behaves identically, and EA hasn't commented on the Daily Knockout reports yet, so treat it as the most likely explanation, not a guaranteed fix.

Are your Daily Knockout and Rivals rewards lost?

Mostly no, if you get the error cleared this week. Here is what is on the line. EA's announcement doesn't spell out the requirements, so these are the in-game objectives as tracked by fut.gg (Daily Knockout group, Weekly Play, Completionist):

All of these rewards are untradeable. The 7-of-8 rule matters: as one r/EASportsFC commenter pointed out, you don't need the 50-match tier at all to claim Olga Carmona. So a few days of errors don't kill the card, as long as the group stays live. Division Rivals is more time-sensitive. EA's Rivals help page says you "win a set number of points before the end of each week" to earn your rewards (EA Help, Rivals). Wins score most, draws also score (per community trackers), and EA's Launch Update says Bounties give "additional ways to earn Weekly Reward Points" (EA, FC 27 Launch Update). A squad-item block that eats your Rivals week costs you those points, the rewards that come with them and Champions Qualification Points. Fixes 2 and 3 are the fastest way back. What if nothing works? (Fixes 5 and 6)

Fix 5: Rule out your device and network. If every FUT mode fails, including Rush and Squad Battles, a device, network or server problem becomes more likely. Run Fix 2 first anyway, because the Curtis Jones bug also broke every mode. Then:

• Restart the console or PC and the router. A full power cycle, not rest mode.
• PC: repair or verify the game files in the EA app or Steam, close overlays (Discord, GPU overlays, Afterburner), and run the launcher as administrator.
• Check EA's server status and @EAFCDirect before you spend an hour troubleshooting. A service problem can break match creation while the menus still load.
• If you see "connection unstable" in matches as well, work through our FC 27 ping-spike fixes.

Fix 6: Report it to EA with the details they act on. The Curtis Jones fix happened because players gave EA a squad-specific pattern. Post in the FC 27 Bug Reports board or contact EA Help with:

• Platform, and whether it's crossplay on or off
• The exact mode (Daily Knockout, Rivals, a named live event) and which modes still work
• The date and time of the failed attempts
• The special items in your squad, including subs and reserves, and the item you isolated in Fix 3

Will Title Update 1.2.0 fix it?

Nobody knows yet. EA's 28 October Gameplay Developer Notes preview the first FC 27 gameplay update for mid-November and list five gameplay changes: fullback positioning, offside awareness, attacking AI, kick-off goals and loose-ball switching (EA). None of those is a session or matchmaking fix, and the full 1.2.0 patch notes aren't out. Our TU 1.2.0 breakdown will be updated when they land. Squad-item failures like Curtis Jones are usually fixed on the server without a patch, so a fix could arrive any day without a patch note.

Until then, the halving test is the most reliable thing in your control. It is also why we would not rebuild a whole squad or sell a promo card on a hunch: in the one case EA confirmed, the card was fine afterwards.

FAQ

Is "There was an error creating your game session" a ban? No. A ban or Transfer Market restriction comes with its own message. This error means the match couldn't be created. Your club, coins and items are untouched, and other modes usually still work.

Why can I play Rush and Squad Battles but not Rivals or the Daily Knockout? Different modes create sessions differently, so one can fail while the others start. That pattern points to your squad or your event entry, not your internet. Run the plain test squad (Fix 2) in the mode that fails.

Which player causes the FC 27 game-session error? The only card EA has confirmed is Curtis Jones, and EA says that one is fixed. Players have also linked an early Ayyoub Bouaddi item to a similar failure. If it happens to you, halve your squad (Fix 3) to find your own culprit rather than trusting a list.

What does "No entries" mean in the Daily Knockout Tournament? The game has no active tournament run for you, so it can't build a match. Back out, re-enter the tournament and relaunch. If it persists, try again after the next daily content refresh.

Do I need all 50 Daily Knockout matches for Olga Carmona? No. The group asks you to complete 7 of 8 challenges, so you can skip the longest tier.

Will I lose Rivals progress while the error is active? Only the weekly points you can't earn. Rivals rewards come from points earned inside the weekly window (wins, draws and Bounties), so fix the error before the window closes rather than waiting for a patch.
