Quick answer, as of 7 October 2026 (Version 7.1): a Crown of Insight is the one material you cannot farm. Its own item description defines it in a single line — it "Upgrades the selected character's Talent from Lv. 9 to Lv. 10." One crown per talent, three per character for a full set. Right now there are four crowns realistically in reach: one from Silverwing in Pursuit of the Moon, which closes 12 October 2026 at 03:59 server time; one from To Temper Thyself and Journey Far Cycle 5, open until 2 November; one from Paimon's Bargains for 50 Masterless Starglitter, which resets on the 1st of every month; and one from Imaginarium Theater Act 10 — but only if you have never cleared Act 10 before, because that crown is a one-time debut reward and not a seasonal one. Stygian Onslaught, the Spiral Abyss and the Battle Pass give zero crowns, no matter how many guides imply otherwise.
That is the whole decision. The rest of this guide is the detail behind it: the full permanent source list with exact levels, a discrepancy in the community's own crown count that nobody seems to have caught, and how to decide which talent actually deserves the crown you are holding.
What does a Crown of Insight actually do?
A Crown of Insight is a Character Talent Material, introduced in Version 1.1. It has exactly one use: it is the gate on the final talent level. Going from Lv. 9 to Lv. 10 on any combat talent consumes one crown, and nothing else in the game consumes crowns — not weapon refinement, not furnishings, not artifact work.
The item's own utility text is one sentence: "Upgrades the selected character's Talent from Lv. 9 to Lv. 10." Its listed sources are equally short — Events, Offering Systems and Paimon's Bargains. That is the entire supply chain, and two of those three are finite.
The cost of that single step, per the community wiki's talent-cost table, is 700,000 Mora plus 12 of the 3-star enhancement material, 16 Philosophies-tier talent books, 2 copies of the character's weekly boss drop and the crown itself, and it requires the character to be at Ascension Phase 6. So a "triple crown" character — Normal Attack, Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst all at Lv. 10 — costs three crowns and 2.1 million Mora in the final steps alone.
One rule that catches people: constellation levels do not help. The community wiki states it in the second line of its own entry, verbatim — "Additional talent levels from Constellations or Utility Passives do not affect the base level nor upgrade cost." A C3 character whose Elemental Skill displays Lv. 12 is still base Lv. 9 underneath, and still needs a crown to reach base Lv. 10.
Most permanent crowns are buried in regional offering systems like Inazuma's Sacred Sakura's Favor, which pays one at Level 45.
How many Crowns can you get in Version 7.1 right now?
Four, and three of them are on clocks. Here is the live inventory, checked against the in-game announcement notices on 7 October 2026.
| Source | Crowns | Deadline (server time) | Gate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silverwing in Pursuit of the Moon | 1 | 12 October 2026, 03:59 | 1,200 Festive Cheer, the final reward tier |
| To Temper Thyself and Journey Far, Cycle 5 | 1 | 2 November 2026, 03:59 | Daily and weekly goal stages, AR 14+ |
| Paimon's Bargains, October stock | 1 | End of October (no rollover) | 50 Masterless Starglitter |
| Imaginarium Theater, Act 10 | 1 | None | First clear only, ever |
Silverwing in Pursuit of the Moon is the urgent one. HoYoverse's notice for it says, verbatim: "Complete the various gameplay modes to obtain 'Festive Cheer.' Accumulate 'Festive Cheer' and reach the specified amounts to claim rewards including Silver Light (Sword), Primogems, Crown of Insight, and event-exclusive Weapon Refinement Materials." The crown sits at 1,200 Festive Cheer, the top rung of the ladder — you do not get it for showing up, you get it for finishing. Entry needs Adventure Rank 20 and Archon Quest Prologue Act III, and note that AR 20 is a higher bar than several other 7.1 events, which gate at AR 14 or 18. The event opened on 24 September and all three of its gameplay phases close together on 12 October at 03:59 on your own server clock.
To Temper Thyself and Journey Far is the one almost everyone forgets, because it is not an event you click into — it is the long-running login-and-resin track that has been live since 10 August and runs to 2 November. Cycle 5's reward pool includes one Crown of Insight among the stage rewards, alongside a Stella Fortuna. Its daily goal is claiming four Daily Commission rewards and spending 120 Original Resin; five of those in a week is a weekly goal, and the stage rewards unlock as weekly goals stack. If you have been doing dailies all patch you have probably already banked it. If you have not, you have under four weeks of weeks left, which is the real constraint.
Does the Imaginarium Theater give a Crown every season?
No — and this is the single most expensive misconception about crowns.
The Imaginarium Theater's crown sits on the Debut Performance track at Act 10, bundled with 250 Primogems, 80,000 Mora and 5 Hero's Wit. Debut Performance rewards are first-clear rewards: you get them once, the first time you finalise that Act, and never again. The repeatable per-season track — the one worth roughly 1,000 Primogems a season — contains no crown at all. The item page states it directly: one Crown of Insight is obtained "by reaching Act 10 in the Imaginarium Theater for the first time."
So if you cleared Act 10 back in, say, Version 5.x, the October 2026 season (Hydro, Cryo and Anemo, running 1 October to 1 November) pays you primogems and medals, and exactly zero crowns. If you have never pushed to Act 10, that is a free crown sitting in a mode you have already unlocked — go get it. The element and cast requirements for this run are in our Imaginarium Theater October 2026 guide.
Where do the permanent Crowns of Insight come from?
Everything above is time-limited. The permanent pool lives in the regional offering systems — the trees, statues and reputation devices you feed regional sigils and exploration progress into. These never expire, which makes them the first place a returning player should look.
| Offering system | Region | Crown at level | Crowns |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sacred Sakura's Favor | Inazuma | 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 | 5 |
| Vanarana's Favor (Tree of Dreams) | Sumeru | 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 | 5 |
| Fountain of Lucine's Accolades | Fontaine | 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 | 5 |
| Tona's Flame's Restitution | Natlan | 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 | 5 |
| Meeting Points (three sites) | Nod-Krai | 3 each | 3 |
| Frostbearing Tree's Gratitude | Dragonspine | 11 | 1 |
| Enhance the Lumenstone Adjuvant | The Chasm | 4 | 1 |
| Rainjade's Benediction | Chenyu Vale | 3 | 1 |
| Temple of Space: Memory Core | Mondstadt | 3 | 1 |
| Ancient Moon's Remnant | Nod-Krai | 3 | 1 |
| Meeting Point, Huntsman's Cabin | Snezhnaya | 3 | 1 |
| Shadow Realm Analyzer | Snezhnaya | 4 | 1 |
That totals 30 — and here is the part worth checking yourself. The community wiki's summary line reads, verbatim, "29 Crowns of Insight are permanently obtainable through Offerings," followed by an eleven-entry list. Those eleven entries do add up to 29, so it is not a typo. What the list leaves out is the Shadow Realm Analyzer, even though that system's own page states a Level 4 reward of 30,000 Mora and one Crown of Insight. The Analyzer lives in the Traveler's Train in Snezhnaya, arrived in Version 7.0 and levels with Shadow Wingdrop — it is new enough that the summary simply has not caught up.
If 29 is the number you planned around, you are one crown richer than you thought.
Two offering systems that look like they should pay out but do not: The Gift of Amrita in Vourukasha Oasis and Primal Flame Resonance at the Throne of the Primal Fire. Natlan has two offering systems and only the Tablet of Tona carries crowns.
Note that Snezhnaya carries two separate crowns from two separate systems, which is easy to miss: the Shadow Realm Analyzer at Level 4, and the Huntsman's Cabin Meeting Point at Level 3. Both are exploration rewards in disguise — you raise them by working through the region rather than by doing anything combat-related. If you are still filling in the map, our Snezhnaya teleport waypoint guide covers the route.
Can you buy a Crown of Insight?
Yes, with in-game currency only, and only one a month.
Paimon's Bargains stocks one Crown of Insight for 50 Masterless Starglitter, with a monthly stock limit of 1 and an Adventure Rank 4 requirement. The shop resets on the 1st of each month. This was added in Version 5.0, in August 2024, and it is the only genuinely repeatable crown source in the game — it is also the reason the lifetime crown count keeps ticking up by one every month. Treat the monthly stock as use-it-or-lose-it and buy it early in the month rather than banking on it carrying over.
Masterless Starglitter comes from pulling duplicate 4-star and 5-star characters and weapons, so in practice this converts wish overflow into talent levels. There is no real-money path to a crown, no trading, and no way to gift one — Genshin Impact has no player-to-player trading at all.
What does not give Crowns of Insight?
Worth stating flatly, because these three come up constantly:
- Spiral Abyss — no crowns, and never has had any. It pays primogems, Mora and talent books.
- Stygian Onslaught — the 7.1 run, Luminous Battlefront, runs 30 September to 3 November and pays Primogems, Dust of Enlightenment, Hero's Wit, Mora and the Radiant Phantasm weapon skins at Dire. No crown anywhere on the reward table. The full difficulty breakdown is in our Stygian Onslaught guide.
- Battle Pass (Gnostic Hymn or Gnostic Chorus) — the 7.1 Moontrace pass pays a 4-star weapon, Intertwined Fate, Mystic Enhancement Ore and Dust of Enlightenment. No crown, paid or free track.
Nor do the current web events. The Anniversary Memories Album and the Starlit Gala web event both pay primogems and cosmetics, not crowns.
How many Crowns of Insight exist in total?
The community wiki's headline figure, as of 7 October 2026, is 115 crowns obtainable since launch, with 88 of those from sources other than Paimon's Bargains. That 115 decomposes cleanly: 57 from expired limited-time events, 2 from the two events live right now, 29 from offerings, 1 from the Imaginarium Theater and 26 monthly Paimon's stocks.
Carry the Shadow Realm Analyzer correction through and the real figure is 116 (89 without Paimon's). And note that this number is not static even between patches — it gains one every time the calendar flips to a new month, because of Paimon's Bargains. There is no official HoYoverse total; this is a community-maintained count, so date-stamp it whenever you quote it.
At three crowns per fully crowned character, a launch-day account that has claimed absolutely everything can have crowned roughly 38 characters. Most accounts are nowhere near that, because the event crowns from four and five years ago are gone forever.
The historical rate is stable and useful for planning: the wiki records that "57 Crowns of Insight were obtainable from Limited Time Events, with 1× Crown of Insight available per event," and lists 2 more as currently obtainable — 59 event crowns across the game's life, of which 57 are already dead. One crown per flagship event was the rule for years; the reason Version 7.1 is a two-crown patch is that the recurring To Temper Thyself track now runs alongside the seasonal flagship.
Which talent should you crown first?
Crowns are permanent and unrefundable, so the only real mistake is crowning early. Three rules that hold up across almost every build:
Crown the talent that actually scales your damage, not the one with the biggest number. For most characters that is the Elemental Skill or the Elemental Burst, and Normal Attack is the first thing to skip unless the character is a genuine on-field auto-attacker. Our per-character build guides spell out the priority — the Nilou build guide, for example, notes that in Bountiful Bloom teams her talents barely matter at all, because the damage scales off team HP rather than her talent multipliers.
Do not crown a support whose contribution is a flat buff or a fixed-duration field. If the talent description has no scaling term that grows with level, the crown buys you almost nothing.
Wait until the character is Ascension Phase 6 and your artifacts are done. A crown on a character with unoptimised artifacts is a rounding error; the same crown on a finished build is the last 10 to 15 percent. If your real bottleneck is wish currency rather than talent levels, the faster lever is primogem income — see how to get primogems fast and the October 2026 code list.

FAQ
How many Crowns of Insight do I need per character? Three — one each for the Normal Attack, Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst, since each crown covers a single talent's Lv. 9 to Lv. 10 step. Constellation-granted talent levels do not reduce that cost.
Can I still get the Crown of Insight from the Silverwing event? Yes, until 12 October 2026 at 03:59 on your own server clock. It is the final reward tier at 1,200 Festive Cheer, so you need to finish the event's gameplay modes rather than dip in once. After that timestamp it is gone permanently.
Does the Imaginarium Theater give a Crown of Insight every season? No. The crown is a Debut Performance reward for clearing Act 10 for the first time ever. The repeatable per-season reward track contains no crown, so a player who has already cleared Act 10 gets none from the October 2026 season.
Do Crowns of Insight expire? Once a crown is in your inventory it stays there — it is an ordinary character development item with no duration. The deadline is always on the source, not the item: event crowns vanish when the event closes, and the Paimon's Bargains stock is capped at one per month and resets on the 1st, so a month you skip is realistically a crown you never buy.
Where is the easiest Crown of Insight I have probably missed? The regional offering systems, because they never expire. Sacred Sakura's Favor, Vanarana's Favor, the Fountain of Lucine and Tona's Flame each pay five crowns across levels 5, 15, 25, 35 and 45, and most players stop feeding them well before Level 45. The Shadow Realm Analyzer in Snezhnaya is the other commonly missed one, at Level 4.
Can I buy Crowns of Insight with real money? No. The only purchase path is Paimon's Bargains at 50 Masterless Starglitter, one per month, and Starglitter comes from duplicate pulls. There is no top-up, no bundle and no trading that produces a crown.
