Genshin Impact Nilou Build in Version 7.1: Artifacts, Weapons, Teams and the 74,445 HP Breakpoint

Nilou has not had a Character Event Wish rate-up since 17 July 2024 — her only appearance since was the Roving Chalice of Dewgrass Chronicled Wish, 10 to 30 September 2025. In Version 7.1 she is simply free — and that is the problem with most of the build guides you will find for her, because they were written for players who pulled her, not for players who were handed her at Lv. 60.

At Lv. 60 her signature passive runs at roughly half the multiplier it reaches at Lv. 90 on identical artifacts. That fact should reorder your whole investment plan.

This guide applies to Version 7.1, "A Rekviem for the Underworld," and every number below comes from live talent and stat values.

The quick answer

  • Nilou is a 5-star Hydro Sword character whose damage is not her own hits — it is the Bountiful Cores her 1st Ascension Passive creates in an all-Hydro-and-Dendro party.
  • Her 4th Ascension Passive gives +9% Bountiful Core DMG per 1,000 Max HP above 30,000, capped at +400%. The cap lands at 74,444.44 Max HP, so 74,445 is the number to build toward.
  • Scaling is linear, not stepwise — every point of HP between 30,000 and the cap pays you.
  • Best artifacts for Nilou herself: 2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith plus 2-piece Vourukasha's Glow (+20% HP each), with HP% on Sands, Goblet and Circlet. Flower of Paradise Lost belongs on your Dendro applier, not on her.
  • Best weapon: Key of Khaj-Nisut. With it, 2+2 HP sets, triple HP% mains and Hydro Resonance, you need about 39% HP from substats to hit the cap. Without it, the cap is effectively out of reach.
  • Lunar-Bloom changed her text, not her job. Her A1 and her C2 have both been rewritten to name the reaction, and every Lunar-Bloom enabler in the game is Hydro or Dendro — so her famously restrictive team rule now costs her nothing.
  • Talents are her lowest priority. Level the character, not the numbers.

Getting Nilou free in 7.1, and the Lv. 60 trap

The in-game event "Tabletop Troupe: A Gathering on Adventure's Eve" lets you invite one event-exclusive 5-star from a fixed pool: Tartaglia, Nilou, Baizhu, Chiori, Clorinde and Varesa. You may invite a character only once during the event, and the window closes on 3 November 2026, server time.

Eligibility is short: Adventure Rank 18 or above, and completion of Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act IV, "A Rekviem for the Underworld." The catch-up path almost nobody mentions — once you are AR 18 and have finished the Mondstadt prologue, travel to Snezhnaya and the game auto-accepts Chapter VII from Act I. Liyue through Nod-Krai can be skipped.

The event also hands over the Ascension Level-Up Materials to raise that character to Lv. 60, and that generosity is exactly where new Nilou owners get hurt: Lv. 60 is where her payoff passive is least effective. Choosing between the six is covered in our Version 7.1 free 5-star selector guide.

What Court of Dancing Petals actually does

Nilou's 1st Ascension Passive, Court of Dancing Petals, only switches on when every character in the party is Hydro or Dendro, with at least one of each. Finish the third dance step of her Elemental Skill and the party gains Golden Chalice's Bounty for 30 seconds.

Under that buff, two things happen. When a character carrying Golden Chalice's Bounty is hit by Dendro attacks, all nearby characters gain +100 Elemental Mastery for 10 seconds — not just the one that was hit. More importantly, triggering Bloom or Lunar-Bloom creates Bountiful Cores instead of Dendro Cores.

Bountiful Cores detonate 0.4 seconds after creation instead of lingering, and their blast radius is 6.5 metres rather than 5. The base damage is still ordinary Bloom damage, scaling off the Elemental Mastery of whoever triggered the reaction — what Nilou adds on top is a DMG bonus of up to +400% read off her own Max HP. They share the cap of five simultaneous cores with ordinary Dendro Cores, and crucially they cannot trigger Hyperbloom or Burgeon.

That last clause is the whole reason her team rule exists. The game's own wording is that Bountiful Core DMG counts as DMG dealt by Dendro Cores produced by Bloom, so Bloom-damage bonuses apply to it. Break the all-Hydro-and-Dendro rule and the buff is cancelled outright.

The Max HP math nobody shows you

Her 4th Ascension Passive, Dreamy Dance of Aeons, is the payoff: +9% Bountiful Core DMG for every 1,000 Max HP above 30,000, to a maximum of +400%.

Solve it and the cap sits at 30,000 plus 400 divided by 9, times 1,000 — 74,444.44 Max HP. Build to a displayed 74,445 and you are certainly capped. A displayed 74,444 usually clears it too, because the game rounds the shown figure down while the true value sits above the threshold.

Max HP in this game is base HP times one plus the sum of all HP% sources, plus flat HP. Nilou's base HP at Lv. 90 is 15,184.93, and her ascension stat is HP%, worth 28.8% at the sixth ascension. Stack Key of Khaj-Nisut's 66.2% HP% substat and its +20% HP passive, 2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith and 2-piece Vourukasha's Glow at 20% each, three 46.6% HP% main stats, Hydro Resonance's +25% Max HP, and a maxed 5-star flower's 4,780 flat HP.

That totals 319.8% before a single substat roll, for 68,526 Max HP — +346.7% Bountiful Core DMG, a 4.47x multiplier. Reaching 74,445 needs a further 38.97% substat HP, roughly eight HP% rolls, and takes you from 4.47x to 5.00x: about 12% more core damage.

Now hold that gear constant and drop her to Lv. 60, where base HP is 9,850.47 and the ascension stat is only 14.4%. The same build lands at 44,714 Max HP, which is +132.4%, a multiplier of 2.32x. Levelling her from 60 to 90 is worth roughly 1.9x her core damage before you upgrade a single artifact. That is the investment order.

Best artifacts for Nilou

The set that wins is not a 4-piece. It is 2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith plus 2-piece Vourukasha's Glow, because each gives a flat +20% HP, and no 4-piece effect in the game beats what raw HP does through that A4.

Main stats are blunt: HP% Sands, HP% Goblet, HP% Circlet. No Hydro DMG Goblet, no CRIT circlet at C0 — Bountiful Core damage is reaction damage and will not crit.

Substat priority is HP% first, then Elemental Mastery. The second one surprises people: her Skill's Tranquility Aura applies Hydro on her own Normal Attacks, so in practice Nilou triggers a share of the Blooms herself, and Bloom base damage reads the triggering character's Elemental Mastery. Energy Recharge matters only to the extent that you can land her Burst; flat HP is weak because it skips the multiplicative stack entirely.

Flower of Paradise Lost is still not her set. Its 2-piece is +80 Elemental Mastery and its 4-piece is a direct Bloom-family DMG bonus — genuinely useful numbers. The opportunity cost kills it: running it gives up two +20% HP set bonuses, and on Nilou every HP% source is multiplied again by a +9%-per-1,000-HP passive. Put it on your Dendro applier instead, where it beats 4-piece Gilded Dreams above roughly 376 base Elemental Mastery.

One widely misreported number: that 4-piece bonus caps at +80%, not +140%. Each of the four stacks adds 25% of the 40% base, not 25 flat points.

Best weapons for Nilou

Key of Khaj-Nisut is her signature and it is not close. It carries 542 base ATK with a 66.2% HP% substat, grants +20% HP outright, and its Grand Hymn effect converts 0.12% of Max HP into Elemental Mastery per stack, up to three stacks, then shares 0.2% of Max HP as Elemental Mastery with the party for 20 seconds. It is the only sword that both pushes her toward the breakpoint and feeds her Dendro partner.

The Dockhand's Assistant is the banner alternative at 510 base ATK with a 41.3% HP% substat. The same 2+2 build would need 83.87% substat HP to cap with it, which is not achievable; at a realistic 39% it lands around 67,630 HP, a 4.39x multiplier.

If you have neither, craft Iron Sting — 510 base ATK with 165 Elemental Mastery. At 39% substat HP it reaches roughly 61,359 HP and a 3.82x multiplier, about 76% of a capped build. That is a perfectly playable Nilou, and better than shelving her until her signature sword reruns.

Teams, and what Lunar-Bloom actually changed

The rule has not moved: only Hydro and Dendro, at least one of each. The standard shape is Nilou, a dedicated Dendro applier such as Nahida, a second Dendro like Baizhu, Yaoyao or Collei, and a Hydro healer like Kokomi or Barbara.

What changed is the wording of her own kit. Court of Dancing Petals now explicitly converts Lunar-Bloom into Bountiful Cores, and her C2 reads "after dealing Bloom or Lunar-Bloom DMG," cutting Dendro RES by 35% alongside its Hydro RES shred. Her kit was patched to recognise the new reaction family, not bypassed by it.

Here is the part no competing guide has run down. Only three characters convert Bloom into Lunar-Bloom — Nefer, Lauma and Columbina — and all three are Dendro or Hydro. Nilou's mono-element restriction, historically her biggest cost, therefore excludes zero Lunar-Bloom enablers.

One distinction to keep straight, because it is the most common mistake in this topic: a Moonsign character is not automatically a Lunar-reaction enabler. Every Moonsign Benediction Passive raises the party's Moonsign level by one, but only Columbina's and the Moon Wheel users' passives actually unlock the reactions. Aino is the clean example — Hydro, free from the Nod-Krai Archon Quest, perfectly legal in a Nilou party, and the cheapest way to push the party's Moonsign level up, yet she enables nothing on her own. Every other Moonsign unit is neither Hydro nor Dendro — Ineffa and Flins on Electro, Linnea and Zibai on Geo — so they were already illegal in her party for unrelated reasons.

Now the trap, and it is the opposite of what the "more Moonsign is better" instinct tells you. Nefer's 1st Ascension Passive converts Dendro Cores and Bountiful Cores into Seeds of Deceit, which never burst — but only at Ascendant Gleam, and only for the 15 seconds after she casts her Skill. Each Moonsign Benediction Passive adds one Moonsign level, and two of them reach Ascendant Gleam. So Nefer is perfectly safe alongside Nilou as the only Moonsign character in the party; the moment you add Aino, Lauma or Columbina to "buff the team," you promote the party to Ascendant Gleam and Nefer starts deleting Nilou's cores. Our Nefer build guide covers what she is actually built for.

Worth knowing too: at Ascendant Gleam — reached with two Moonsign units, and triggered when a non-Moonsign character casts a Skill or Burst, for a 20-second window — the party gains Lunar Reaction DMG scaling at 0.6% per 1,000 Max HP for Hydro, capped at 36% from 60,000 Max HP. A built Nilou clears that threshold trivially. But because Bountiful Core damage is Bloom damage and not Lunar-Bloom damage, that bonus boosts your enabler's output, not your cores. The full reaction hierarchy is broken down in our Lunar reactions explained guide.

Talents, ascension materials and farm days

Talent priority is Elemental Skill, then Burst, and Normal Attack essentially never. Her damage lives in a passive multiplier and a reaction, not in talent scaling, so talents are the weakest place to spend resin on her. Ascensions first, then artifacts, then talents.

Her Burst, Dance of Abzendegi: Distant Dreams, Listening Spring, costs 70 Energy and scales off Max HP, the one place her build does double duty. Her Skill runs an 18-second cooldown with a 12-second Tranquility Aura.

Full ascension costs 420,000 Mora, 46 Perpetual Caliber from the Aeonblight Drake, 168 Padisarah from Sumeru, Varunada Lazurite in the usual 1 / 9 / 9 / 6 split, and 18 / 30 / 36 Fungal Spores, Luminescent Pollen and Crystalline Cyst Dust.

Talents run on Praxis books from the Steeple of Ignorance, open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, plus 6 Tears of the Calamitous God and 1 Crown of Insight. Plan domain days around that window.

Four mistakes that cost the most

Building Elemental Mastery ahead of HP%. HP% is multiplied twice on her, so it always wins the main stats. Elemental Mastery is her second-best substat, not a dead one.

Taking a CRIT circlet at C0. Core damage does not crit. Her C6 is the only thing that converts Max HP into CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG, and most players will never see it.

Slotting an Electro or Pyro unit "for Hyperbloom." It cancels Golden Chalice's Bounty entirely. You get a worse team, not a hybrid one.

Leaving her at Lv. 60 because the free materials stopped there. That alone costs you nearly half her output.

FAQ

What are the best artifacts for Nilou in Genshin Impact? Two-piece Tenacity of the Millelith plus two-piece Vourukasha's Glow, each giving +20% HP, with HP% on the Sands, Goblet and Circlet. Flower of Paradise Lost is a better fit on her Dendro applier than on Nilou herself.

How much HP does Nilou need? 74,445 Max HP caps her 4th Ascension Passive at +400% Bountiful Core DMG. Scaling is linear below that, so there is no wasted HP between 30,000 and the cap, and no benefit above it.

Is Nilou still good in Version 7.1? Yes, in her own niche. Her damage ceiling did not change, but her kit text was updated to recognise Lunar-Bloom, and the three Lunar-Bloom enablers are all Hydro or Dendro — so her party restriction no longer locks her out of the newest reaction family.

What is the best free-to-play weapon for Nilou? Iron Sting, which is craftable. It reaches roughly a 3.82x Bountiful Core multiplier against 5.00x for a capped Key of Khaj-Nisut build — about 76% of the ceiling, for zero pulls.

Can Nilou use Hyperbloom or Burgeon teams? No. Bountiful Cores cannot trigger either reaction, and adding an Electro or Pyro character cancels her 1st Ascension Passive and the Golden Chalice's Bounty buff along with it.

How do I get Nilou for free right now? Through the Tabletop Troupe: A Gathering on Adventure's Eve event, which needs Adventure Rank 18 and Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act IV. The invitation is single-use and closes on 3 November 2026, server time.

The bottom line

Nilou's value sits behind one number and the free materials stop short of it. Get her to Lv. 90, stack HP%, keep the party strictly Hydro and Dendro, treat talents as an afterthought.
