Ronova has been a cutscene for two years. In Version 7.1 she becomes a health bar — the Genshin Ronova weekly boss.
HoYoverse said so in writing on 12 September 2026, in the press release announcing the update, and that paragraph is still the only first-party written statement about her as a fightable boss — the Version 7.1 Special Program broadcast on 12 September was the reveal venue, and the 39 notices live in the in-game feed this morning, maintenance preview included, do not name her once. There is no drop list, no domain name, no location pin. What there is — and what nobody seems to be writing down — is everything the Trounce Domain system already fixes in advance: the Resin bill, the weekly reset, the quest gate HoYoverse published yesterday, and the exact shape of the reward table she will inherit.
Quick answer: Ronova becomes a new Weekly Boss when Version 7.1 "A Rekviem for the Underworld" launches on 23 September 2026, after maintenance that begins 22:00 UTC today, 22 September and is estimated at five hours. HoYoverse has not published the Trounce Domain's own unlock condition, but it has now published the gate on the quest that stages the fight: Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act III and Act IV need Adventure Rank 18 and a completed Chapter VII: Act II "Wraith's Nocturne". Expect the standard Trounce Domain terms: 60 Original Resin per claim, cut to 30 for the first three claims each week from a shared pool across all Trounce Domains, resetting Monday at 4:00 AM server time, one reward per domain per week. Her three Character Level-Up Materials have not been published — and neither have Vesna's or Vodyanitsa's. HoYoverse's official skill showcases displayed both characters' talent and ascension materials as unlabelled icons, and yesterday's Event Wish notices for both carry no material data either, so nobody outside HoYoverse knows yet whether either 7.1 character needs a Ronova drop. Treat week-one Ronova as a lore priority until the drop list is live.
Article status: written 22 September 2026, hours before the servers go down. Every mechanic below is quoted from in-game text; the Ronova statement is quoted from HoYoverse's own press release; the quest gate and the maintenance window were read this morning from the live in-game announcement feed. Anything unpublished is labelled as unpublished rather than guessed. No leak, datamine or beta build is used anywhere on this page.
Is the Genshin Ronova weekly boss confirmed for Version 7.1?
Yes, and the sentence is unambiguous. HoYoverse's Version 7.1 press release, dated Singapore, 12 September 2026 and carried on the GamesPress newswire, states:
"Players will head to the front lines and fight alongside Snezhnaya in a climactic battle against Ronova. The Ruler of Death will also appear as a new Weekly Boss, giving players the chance to confront her overwhelming power firsthand. Completing the new Archon Quest will grant Primogems ×620."
Three facts sit inside that: she is a Weekly Boss, the climactic battle against her is part of the new Archon Quest, and that quest pays 620 Primogems. Note what it does not say — it never states that the Weekly Boss itself is unlocked by the quest. The release date comes from a separate official post, the Version 7.1 Benefits Overview published on 12 September 2026 at 21:30, which opens with the line that "Genshin Impact Version 7.1 'A Rekviem for the Underworld' launches on September 23!" One correction worth making, because it is widely miscounted: the Intertwined Fate ×10 and Primogems ×1,600 in that post are not a separate login bonus. They are part of the single anniversary package the press release describes.
What the release does not say is where she lives, what she drops, what her domain is called, or which difficulty tiers she offers. Any page giving you those right now is reading a beta client, not an announcement. The timing, at least, is now fixed: the Version 7.1 Update Maintenance Preview published on 21 September puts maintenance at 2026/09/23 06:00 (UTC+8) — 22:00 UTC on 22 September — for an estimated five hours, with Primogems ×300 compensation. Our Genshin 7.1 maintenance time guide breaks that down per server, and the 7.1 release date guide covers the version timeline. The detail that matters for this page is buried at the end of that notice: the Version Update Details notice, the one that finally carries drop tables and domain names, is scheduled for 2026/09/23 07:00 (UTC+8). That is the hour Ronova's reward table stops being a structural inference and becomes a published list.
How do you unlock a Weekly Boss in Genshin Impact?
Weekly Bosses live in Trounce Domains, and Trounce Domains are quest-gated. In every case so far the domain opens once you finish the story content that introduces the boss — which makes the new Archon Quest the overwhelmingly likely gate, even though the press release does not actually say so.
That quest, at least, stopped being a guess on 21 September. HoYoverse published an in-game notice titled "Complete the Archon Quest 'A Rekviem for the Underworld' Within the Specified Duration…", and it prints the prerequisites in plain text:
"After the Version update, Archon Quests Chapter VII: Act III and Act IV will be permanently available. Meet the unlock criteria to unlock said Archon Quests. […] Archon Quest Unlock Criteria: Adventure Rank 18 or above. Complete Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act II 'Wraith's Nocturne.'"
So the story gate is low and it is published: Adventure Rank 18 and a cleared Chapter VII: Act II. Two things follow that most pages have not connected. First, this is a two-act run, not one — Act III and Act IV both arrive in 7.1, and Archon Quest acts unlock in order. The notice names Act IV "A Rekviem for the Underworld", the act the version itself is named after, which makes it the likely home of the climactic Ronova battle the press release describes — though HoYoverse has not said which act stages the fight, so budget an evening for both. Second, there is a deadline attached that has nothing to do with the boss: the reward bundle for finishing the quest inside the window, and the Epilogue that unlocks afterwards, both expire 2026/11/03 14:59 (UTC+8), and the notice calls the Epilogue "a time-limited quest." The Weekly Boss will still be there in December. The Epilogue will not.
One caution on reading that notice too eagerly: it is the unlock criteria for the Archon Quest, not for the Trounce Domain. HoYoverse has never published a separate gate for Ronova's domain, and on every previous boss the domain opened on story completion rather than on a rank. Treat AR 18 plus Act II as the floor to reach the fight, not as a promise that a fresh AR 18 account can farm her.
There is also one system-level shortcut with a rank requirement, printed in the in-game Adventurer Handbook: "When you reach Adventure Rank 40, you can, in Single-Player Mode, use your Adventurer's Handbook to challenge Trounce Domains you have yet to unlock." Read that precisely, because it gets misquoted constantly. AR 40 is the floor for the handbook's Quick Challenge shortcut into a domain you have not unlocked — it is not the gate on fighting a Weekly Boss. The entrance itself opens on story completion, and each domain then runs its own Adventure Rank ladder across its difficulty tiers: Confront Stormterror offers AR 25/30/35/40/45/50; the Binding Field of Universal Nirvana, False Moon Institute, Unresolved Chess Game and Stone Stele Records start at AR 35; Scattered Ruins starts at AR 40. Ronova's ladder has not been published.
So the day-before checklist is short and it is all pre-update work:
- Push your Adventure Rank up. AR 40 unlocks the handbook Quick Challenge and is also the rank that opens the Lv. 70 difficulty tier — the lowest one that pays a talent material; the tiers that pay more than one sit at AR 45 and AR 50.
- Clear Chapter VII: Act II "Wraith's Nocturne" tonight if you have not. It is the published prerequisite for both new acts, and doing it now means Act III opens the moment the servers return instead of costing you the first evening.
- Bank Original Resin — see the arithmetic in the next section.
- Keep your three weekly half-price claims unspent going into update week.
That last point is the one most players get wrong, and it is worth a section of its own.
What does the Ronova Trounce Domain cost in Resin?
The in-game Trounce Blossom text has read the same way for years: "Revitalizing the Ley Line Blossom requires 60 Original Resin. Three opportunities will arise every week to halve the Original Resin cost of revitalizing these Trounce Blossoms."
Here is the part the wikis phrase loosely and players routinely misread. Those three half-price opportunities are not three per boss. They are a single shared weekly allowance spent across every Trounce Domain in the game. The Adventurer Handbook prints the counter at the top of the Trounce Domain tab, and it reads "Remaining cost-halving opportunities this week: X/3" — one counter, not one per domain. You cannot stack them on a single boss either, because only one reward can be claimed per domain per week — so it takes three different bosses to drain the pool. Spend all three on Dvalin, Azhdaha and Childe and Ronova costs you the full 60.
The practical maths, then:
- First three Trounce Domain claims of the week: 30 Original Resin each.
- Every claim after that: 60 Original Resin.
- One reward per Trounce Domain per week, reset every Monday at 4:00 AM server time — which is also when the three half-price claims come back.
Condensed Resin does not apply here; it is a Ley Line and domain convenience, not a Trounce Blossom one. And because the counter reset on Monday morning while 7.1 lands on a Wednesday, anyone who already ran their usual weekly boss circuit yesterday, Monday the 21st, will walk into Ronova's domain with zero half-price claims left and pay the full 60. If you have not spent them yet, that is the single most valuable thing you can protect today: hold all three until the drop list is live.
Where will Ronova's Trounce Domain be?
Unpublished — but the map tells you something interesting about how unusual this is.
Genshin currently has 13 Trounce Domains, holding 13 of the game's 14 Weekly Bosses — Andrius, the lone open-world exception, has no domain at all. Here is the full map as of Version 7.0:
| Region | Trounce Domains |
|---|---|
| Mondstadt | Confront Stormterror · Unresolved Chess Game |
| Liyue | Beneath the Dragon-Queller · Enter the Golden House |
| Inazuma | End of the Oneiric Euthymia · Narukami Island: Tenshukaku |
| Sumeru | Binding Field of Universal Nirvana · Joururi Workshop · The Realm of Beginnings |
| Fontaine | Scattered Ruins · Shadow of Another World |
| Natlan | Stone Stele Records |
| Nod-Krai | False Moon Institute |
| Snezhnaya | — |
Snezhnaya has none. The region opened with Version 7.0 and shipped without a Weekly Boss of its own — 7.0's Update Details notice adds three ordinary domains and never uses the words "Weekly Boss" or "Trounce" once. If Ronova's arena sits in Snezhnaya, she is the first Weekly Boss the Fatui homeland has ever had, closing the one regional gap on the Trounce Domain map. The press release places the fight "alongside Snezhnaya" and on "the front lines" rather than naming a location, and yesterday's Archon Quest notice lists "Snezhnaya regional specialties" among the rewards for the two new acts — so the quest is certainly in Snezhnaya. Treat the region as strongly implied and the map pin as unknown.
What does Ronova drop?
Her three specific materials have not been published. Everything structural around them has been, because Weekly Boss reward tables are one of the most rigid systems in the game.
Each Weekly Boss drops three of the items the game files under Character Level-Up Materials — the talent materials — and only that boss drops them. Across the 14 bosses live today that comes to 42 distinct materials, a ratio that has held for every boss added since 1.0, which is why "Ronova will add three" is a safe structural read even though the names are not out. Their only use is levelling certain Combat Talents beyond base Level 6 — levels 1 through 6 never touch them, which is why a brand-new Weekly Boss matters only to players already deep into a build.
One tier rule decides whether you get one at all: the talent material drops from the Lv. 70+ difficulty tier and upward only. A cheap low-tier clear pays Artifacts, Mora and EXP and no talent material, so a 30-Resin claim is only worth spending on a tier you can actually beat.
Alongside the talent material, a Trounce Blossom claim pays:
- Adventure EXP ×300 and Mora, plus Companionship EXP.
- Character Ascension Materials and Artifacts, scaling to the difficulty tier you picked and to your World Level.
- A weapon billet at a 12% chance, from one of three families — Northlander Billet in Mondstadt, Liyue and Inazuma, Midlander Billet in Sumeru and Fontaine, Borderland Billet in Natlan and Nod-Krai — each existing in five weapon-type variants. Which family a Snezhnayan boss uses has never been published.
- Dream Solvent at a fixed 33% chance, independent of World Level.
There is also a one-time bonus most players forget: clearing the highest available difficulty of a Weekly Boss for the first time awards one of each of that boss's materials, claimed through the Adventurer Handbook. On a brand-new boss that is a free head start on whoever eventually needs her drops.
Two combat notes carry over to every Weekly Boss and will almost certainly carry to her: they are immune to displacement and to being Frozen, and they have high interruption resistance. Crowd-control teams that trivialise open-world bosses do considerably less here.
Do Vesna or Vodyanitsa need Ronova's materials?
Nobody outside HoYoverse knows yet — and that is the most important caveat in this article.
HoYoverse has published a Character Skill Showcase for each 7.1 character, and both showed the talent and ascension materials as unlabelled icons: art, no names, no source boss. Yesterday's Event Wish notices — "When Warm Winds Cavort" for Vesna and "Surging Ballad" for Vodyanitsa, both running until 2026/10/13 17:59 (UTC+8) — list the characters, the 4-star line-up and the guarantee rules, and not a single material. With the servers going down tonight, the 7.1 talent-material list is one of the last details still unpublished, alongside Ronova's own drop table. Any named list circulating right now is a datamine, not a source.
That leaves one sane play for update week: bank the Resin. A Trounce Domain claim is once per domain per week and the half-price window is only three claims wide, so a claim spent on a guess cannot be taken back until Monday. Wait for the in-game drop list, then spend.
Our Vesna build guide and Vodyanitsa build guide track each character's materials as they are confirmed, and the 7.1 banner breakdown covers the wish side.
One thing worth knowing about the pattern: a new Weekly Boss's materials do not always wait for a later character. Version 2.1 shipped Narukami Island: Tenshukaku and Raiden Shogun, who consumes its Molten Moment, in the same update. So Ronova supplying a 7.1 character is entirely possible — it is simply not published.
How does Dream Solvent work with a new boss?
Dream Solvent is the reason a wasted Ronova claim is never fully wasted. It drops at a fixed 33% rate from Trounce Blossom claims, and it converts one Weekly Boss material into another — with one hard restriction: only between drops from the same boss. One Dream Solvent converts one material, at the Crafting Bench under Conversion, filtered to "Transfigured Dreams", and it costs no Mora. The same menu also converts forging Billets, at a different price and with its own restriction: two Dream Solvent per billet, and only between billets of the same weapon type.
So the three materials Ronova drops will be interchangeable with each other and with nothing else. Pull the wrong one of her three, convert it. Pull one of hers when you needed Dvalin's, and no amount of solvent will help. Be careful with names here — two different Weekly Bosses are titled Il Dottore, the Exalted Master of the Heretical Path in Sumeru and the Heretic of the False Moon in Nod-Krai, and their material pools do not convert into each other either. Plan your claims by boss, not by material.
What else is landing in the same update?
Ronova is one line of a dense patch, and several of the other items compete for the same Resin and the same evening. From the same press release: Rhinedottir, the Ruler of Life, enters the story — a narrative beat, not a wish debut; players come face-to-face with the Tsaritsa; the Tsaritsa's Confidential Secretary special assignments begin; and the Moonchase Festival returns to Liyue after five years, at Yilong Wharf, with three new mini-games and a new 4-star Sword. The release also names the second-phase wish line-up directly — Skirk and Escoffier returning after Vesna and Vodyanitsa in phase one.
The anniversary rewards tie straight back to the Archon Quest gate. That same anniversary package — the ×1,600 Primogems and ×10 Intertwined Fate above, not a second helping of them — also carries a free event-exclusive 5-star from a select line-up, claimed after completing the latest Archon Quest, plus a free standard 5-star. In other words the quest that unlocks Ronova is the same quest that unlocks your free 5-star — so the story run is mandatory for anyone claiming the anniversary reward, whether or not they care about a new boss. Our 7.1 events calendar tracks what expires alongside it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ronova confirmed as a Weekly Boss? Yes. HoYoverse's Version 7.1 press release of 12 September 2026 states that "the Ruler of Death will also appear as a new Weekly Boss." That is a first-party confirmation of the boss, not of her drops, domain name or location — none of which have been published.
When can I fight Ronova? After the Version 7.1 update on 23 September 2026, and, almost certainly, after completing the Archon Quest that stages the fight — HoYoverse has published the quest's unlock criteria but not the Trounce Domain's. Those criteria are Adventure Rank 18 and a completed Chapter VII: Act II "Wraith's Nocturne", after which Chapter VII Acts III and IV become permanently available. Maintenance begins 2026/09/23 06:00 (UTC+8), which is 22:00 UTC on 22 September, and is estimated at five hours, so the servers should be back around 03:00 UTC on 23 September.
How much Resin does Ronova cost? Expect the standard Trounce Domain price of 60 Original Resin, halved to 30 for your first three Trounce Domain claims of the week. Those three half-price claims are shared across every Trounce Domain, not granted per boss. You can claim her reward once per week, resetting on Monday at 4:00 AM server time — Weekly Bosses are a weekly cap, not a Resin grind.
What talent materials will Ronova drop? Unpublished. Structurally she should add three new Character Level-Up Materials — every one of the 14 current Weekly Bosses drops exactly three, for 42 in total — and they will be consumed only when levelling a Combat Talent beyond base Level 6. The Version Update Details notice due 2026/09/23 07:00 (UTC+8) is the first place a real list will appear. Do not trust a named list before then.
Should I save Resin for Ronova? HoYoverse has not published either 7.1 character's talent materials — the official showcases displayed them as unlabelled icons — so nobody can tell you yet whether Vesna or Vodyanitsa needs a Ronova drop. Bank the Resin rather than spending it on a guess, and check the in-game drop list the hour the update lands.
Will Ronova be in Snezhnaya? Probably, but it is not confirmed. There are 13 Trounce Domains today and none of them are in Snezhnaya, so if her arena lands there she becomes the region's first Weekly Boss. The press release says players fight "alongside Snezhnaya" without naming a location.
The Version Update Details notice lands at 2026/09/23 07:00 (UTC+8), an hour after the servers go down. This page gets re-checked against the real drop list, difficulty tiers and map pin as soon as it does. Until then, the rest of our coverage sits in the Genshin Impact guides hub.
