Ancient Civilization Cores are the single material standing between you and Palworld's best endgame gear — and almost every guide you'll read gets them wrong, because the community uses "Cores" to mean two completely different items. On the current v1.0.5 (1.102.999) build, the purple Legendary Ancient Civilization Core does not drop from Alpha Pals or ordinary dungeon chests the way the blue common Ancient Civilization Part does. Farm the wrong source and you'll grind for hours and never see one. Here is exactly what Cores are, the real sources, and the fastest repeatable loop to stockpile them.
Quick answer: Ancient Civilization Cores are a purple Legendary crafting material. They drop only from end-game Raid Bosses (Bellanoir, Bellanoir Libero, Blazamut Ryu, Xenolord, Hartalis), from the main chest on the Oil Rig (random 1–5 per run), and from high-difficulty Pal Expeditions. No merchant sells them and no workbench crafts them. The fastest hands-off farm is running multiple high-tier Pal Expeditions in parallel across several bases while you do everything else — and finishing the Lumbering and Mining research nodes that cut expedition time and boost rewards. Save Cores for the recipes that genuinely need them, like Ability Glasses (5 Cores).
If the real reason you want Cores is a fully-geared, capped combat team, that's the grind our Palworld leveling service exists to skip — we take your Pals to cap and through the endgame content that drops Cores while you keep playing.

Ancient Civilization Cores vs Parts: the mistake that wastes hours
This is the most important paragraph in the guide, so read it before you farm anything. Palworld has two blue-and-purple "Ancient Civilization" crafting materials, and they are not the same item:
- Ancient Civilization Parts — the blue, common material. Drops from Alpha Pals (100%), dungeon bosses, Lucky Pals, rare chests, and ordinary expeditions. Weight 1, sells for 100 Gold. These are everywhere once you're clearing Alphas, and they gate mid-tier recipes like the Egg Incubator, the Pal Essence Condenser and the base Grappling Gun.
- Ancient Civilization Cores — the purple, Legendary material. The subject of this guide. Rare, raid-and-expedition-gated, and required for the top tier of gear.
The confusion is understandable — even large community guides title their Parts pages "Ancient Civilization Cores" and treat the two as interchangeable. They are not. If a guide tells you to "farm Cores off Alpha Pals," it's describing Parts and will send you in circles. When you read a recipe, check the exact item name: a recipe that wants Parts and one that wants Cores are asking for different materials.
A quick tell in-game: Parts come off your regular world loop constantly; Cores you have to go earn from a raid, the Oil Rig, or an expedition. If it fell out of an Alpha, it's a Part.
Where do Ancient Civilization Cores come from in Palworld?
There are three legitimate sources, in rough order of reliability:
1. High-difficulty Pal Expeditions — the repeatable farm
This is the method experienced players point new ones to, and for good reason: it's almost entirely passive. Pal Expeditions send your base Pals out on a timer and pay out materials when they return — and the higher-tier expeditions include Ancient Civilization Cores in their reward pool. You don't have to be at the keyboard, and you can scale it.
The scaling trick is one expedition station per base, across multiple bases. You can run a different (or the same) expedition from each base you own, so players with several bases keep four or more expeditions cycling at once. One Palworld player summed up the endgame loop plainly: "You can have one expedition per base and run a different or the same expedition from each one. I currently have four and I am constantly running expeditions of different tiers."
Two research upgrades make this dramatically better and most players miss them:
- The Lumbering and Mining research trees each contain both an "increased expedition rewards" node and a "reduced expedition time" node — together they cut expedition duration by roughly a third. As one player put it: "both mining and lumbering have techs that reduce expedition time down 35% in total."
- Loading an expedition with highly condensed Pals pushes the reward percentage far above 100%, multiplying everything it returns — including Cores.
If you're short on strong Pals, send them anyway: even a low reward percentage still returns at least one Core-eligible payout per station, so an imperfect expedition beats an empty one.
2. End-game Raid Bosses — the biggest single payouts
Summoned raid bosses are the highest-yield Cores source per kill. On the current build, the raid bosses that drop Ancient Civilization Cores are Bellanoir, Bellanoir Libero, Blazamut Ryu, Xenolord, and Hartalis. You summon them by placing a boss-specific Slab into a Summoning Altar at a base — and because these fights can level your base, use a dedicated, near-empty base for them.
Bellanoir is the natural first target: she's the entry-level raid boss at the Summoning Altar, and her summon tablets come from expeditions too. A player describing the fragment loop noted that running the right mid-tier expedition at 1000% loot "should get you 10–20 Bellanoir tab fragments, allowing you to summon her 2–5 times" — which folds the raid source neatly back into the expedition farm. For the apex raids, see our dedicated Palworld Xenolord raid guide for the counter team and summon chain.
3. The Oil Rig — a one-and-done chest
The main chest on the Oil Rig contains Ancient Civilization Cores, in a random amount between 1 and 5 per clear. The Oil Rig is a fixed PvE assault location rather than a summoned fight, so it's a useful early pickup when you first reach the endgame, but it isn't a loop you can farm back-to-back the way expeditions are. Treat it as a bonus, not your main supply.
What are Ancient Civilization Cores used for?
Cores are a crafting ingredient — you never use one directly, you spend them at a workbench to unlock or build top-tier gear. The most-referenced single recipe is the Ability Glasses, which unlock at Technology Level 34 for 4 Ancient Technology Points and then cost 30 Refined Ingot, 20 Paldium Fragment, 10 Ancient Civilization Parts, and 5 Ancient Civilization Cores to craft. Notice that recipe eats both Parts and Cores — a clean example of why the two materials aren't interchangeable, and why you keep a stock of each. The Glasses let you read any Pal's HP/Attack/Defense potential (IV) 0–100, with 70+ shown in green, so they're worth building early in your Cores budget because they make every later Pal you breed or condense a more informed decision.
Beyond that, Cores feed the endgame loadout tier — the strongest shields, weapon lines and unique craftables sit behind them. Because supply is slow, prioritize: build the Ability Glasses first (they pay for themselves in better breeding and condensing decisions), then spend remaining Cores on the specific weapon or armor you'll actually use, not everything at once.
A note players get burned by: lagging behind the tech tree on Cores is completely normal and not a sign you're doing it wrong. The intended pace is to unlock Core recipes as you naturally accumulate the material, not to front-load a grind. As one veteran reassured a newer player: "Lagging behind the tech tree is totally normal… don't worry about it and just progress however you can, grabbing stuff from the tech tree as needed."

The optimal Ancient Civilization Cores farm route
Putting it together, the efficient loop looks like this:
- Finish the four expedition-boosting research nodes in the Lumbering and Mining trees first (reduced time + increased rewards). This multiplies everything below.
- Build an expedition station in every base you own and keep all of them cycling high-tier expeditions, loaded with your most condensed Pals for the highest reward percentage.
- Bank Bellanoir summon fragments from the mid-tier expedition and cash them in at a Summoning Altar on a dedicated raid base for burst Cores.
- Clear the Oil Rig once when you reach the endgame for an easy 1–5, then forget it.
- Spend deliberately — Ability Glasses first, then your main weapon/armor, rather than draining your stock on every recipe.
Everything here assumes the v1.0.5 build. Pocketpair reveals patches through a Producer Letter shortly before shipping, so if a newer version drops, re-check expedition reward tables before you commit a long farm.
FAQ
Are Ancient Civilization Cores and Ancient Civilization Parts the same thing? No — and this is the #1 mistake. Parts are the blue, common material from Alpha Pals, dungeon bosses and Lucky Pals; Cores are the purple, Legendary material from raid bosses, the Oil Rig and high-tier expeditions. The community uses "Cores" loosely for both, but they are separate items with separate recipes. Check the exact item name on any recipe.
Can you buy Ancient Civilization Cores from a merchant? No. No standard, Legendary, or Medal Merchant sells them, and no workbench crafts them. You can only earn Cores through raid bosses, the Oil Rig main chest, or Pal Expeditions.
What is the fastest way to farm Ancient Civilization Cores? Multiple high-difficulty Pal Expeditions running in parallel across several bases, after you've finished the Lumbering and Mining research nodes that reduce expedition time and increase rewards. It's slower per-unit than a raid kill but it runs passively while you do everything else, so the hourly rate is higher.
Which raid bosses drop Ancient Civilization Cores? Bellanoir, Bellanoir Libero, Blazamut Ryu, Xenolord and Hartalis. Bellanoir is the easiest entry point and her summon fragments drop from expeditions, so she slots into the same farm loop.
How many Ancient Civilization Cores do I need for Ability Glasses? Five. The Ability Glasses recipe costs 5 Ancient Civilization Cores, unlocks at Technology Level 34, and requires 4 Ancient Technology Points to purchase.
Why do I have tons of Ancient Civilization Parts but no Cores? Because you've been killing Alpha Pals and running dungeons — those drop Parts, not Cores. To get Cores you need to run high-tier expeditions, clear the Oil Rig, or summon and beat a raid boss. It's not bad luck; they come from different content.
