Palworld: Fastest Way to Level Up Pals (Training Manuals, Crystals & Catch-Up XP)

Party Pals are the only Pals in Palworld that gain experience at a real rate — so the fastest way to level a Pal is to keep it in your active five slots, feed it Training Manuals and Training Crystals, and lean on the game's 1.0 catch-up EXP so an under-levelled catch reaches your level without its own grind. This guide covers every legitimate Pal-XP source in Palworld 1.0 (current build v1.0.5), ranked, plus the one place your Pals gain zero XP that traps most players.

Quick answer: Party Pals level fastest. Stack a Training Crystal (+1 level, instant) and Training Manual XL (100,000 EXP) for a burst, run an Omascul in your party for a permanent team-wide +10–20% EXP, equip a Growth Acceleration Bell on the Pal, and let 1.0's catch-up EXP carry any Pal caught below your player level. Pals in the Palbox gain no EXP at all — that is the #1 mistake.

If the climb to 80 is the part you want to skip, our Palworld leveling service handles it on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, on your own world or a dedicated server.

Key takeaways

  • Only party Pals level at full speed. Palbox Pals gain zero EXP; base-assigned Pals gain a slow trickle from work.
  • Training Manuals give fixed EXP: S = 200 · M = 1,000 · L = 10,000 · XL = 100,000. A Training Crystal simply adds +1 level outright.
  • Omascul's Partner Skill "Masquerade Dance" grants the whole party +10% EXP, scaling to +20% when Omascul is fully condensed — the best free Pal-EXP multiplier in the game.
  • 1.0 added catch-up EXP: a Pal caught below your player level now levels quickly until it catches up, so a Level 70 catch is usable immediately.
  • Once a Pal is at level, its real power comes from the five stacking upgrade tracks — Condensing, Pal Souls, Stat Fruits, Trust and Awakening — not from more levels.

How Pal EXP actually works in Palworld 1.0

Before you optimise, get the routing right, because most "my Pals won't level" complaints come from feeding EXP into the wrong bucket.

  • Party Pals (your 5 active slots): gain EXP from combat, capturing, and completing objectives at the full rate. This is where levelling happens.
  • Base-assigned Pals: gain a slow trickle from doing base work. It is not zero — but it is far too slow to level a combat Pal on purpose.
  • Palbox Pals: gain absolutely no EXP. Parking a Pal in the box freezes it at its current level forever.

So rule one is simple: the Pal you want strong goes in your party and stays there while you play. Everything below assumes that.

Palworld base with assigned Pals working — base-assigned Pals gain only a slow trickle of EXP, unlike party Pals

A huge quality-of-life change arrived with 1.0: accelerated catch-up EXP. An under-levelled Pal in your party now gains bonus EXP until it reaches your player level, then settles to the normal rate. In the early-access game a low-level catch was dead weight; in 1.0 you can catch a Level 70 Pal, drop it in your party, and it will close the gap in a fraction of the time. This single change makes "just catch a stronger one" a valid levelling strategy on its own.

Practically, that reshapes how you should think about your roster. If you find a wild Pal of the species you want at a higher level than the one you've been babysitting, the higher catch is almost always the better starting point — the catch-up curve erases the level difference quickly, and you skip the slow low-level band entirely. Reserve your Training Crystals and XL manuals for a Pal you've already decided is a keeper (correct passives, a species you'll condense and Awaken), rather than dumping them into the first thing you catch.

The fastest Pal-XP sources, ranked

1. Training Crystals (+1 level, instant)

A Training Crystal is described in-game as a "Strange crystal that when given to a Pal raises its level by one." No EXP math — it is a flat +1 level applied immediately. You buy them from the Arena Shop for 50 Battle Tickets each, and certain endgame raid bosses (Blazamut Ryu, Hartalis, Xenolord) drop them at a 100% rate, with Ultra versions dropping 2–3. If you are clearing endgame raids anyway, you are already farming the single most efficient level-up item in the game.

2. Training Manuals (fixed EXP)

Training Manuals are consumables that grant a fixed chunk of EXP to one Pal:

Palworld Training Manual (Medium) item tooltip showing the fixed EXP it grants to a Pal

Training ManualEXP granted
Small (S)200
Medium (M)1,000
Large (L)10,000
Extra Large (XL)100,000

Save the XL manuals for a Pal that is already high level, where 100,000 EXP is still a meaningful chunk, and burn the smaller ones on early Pals where a few thousand EXP is several levels. Manuals stack with everything else on this list — they are a top-up, not a strategy on their own.

3. Omascul — the best free EXP multiplier

Palworld Pal Omascul, whose Partner Skill "Masquerade Dance" grants the whole party bonus EXP

Omascul's Partner Skill, "Masquerade Dance," reads: "While in team, the Pals in the team gain more experience points." It grants +10% EXP to the whole party at base, rising to +11% / +13% / +16% / +20% as you condense Omascul to ranks 1–4. Keep Omascul in one of your five slots and every other Pal — plus your own character — levels faster, permanently, for free. Very few competitor guides even mention it, which is exactly why it belongs at the top of your setup.

4. Growth Acceleration Bell (equipped on the Pal)

The Growth Acceleration Bell is an accessory you equip on the Pal itself (not your character) to raise that specific Pal's EXP gain; it comes in +1 and +2 variants. You get it from fishing, fish ponds, magnet salvage spots, or by crafting it from a found schematic. Put the +2 bell on your project Pal and it compounds with Omascul's team buff.

5. Play with the Pal in your party

The unglamorous truth: the biggest EXP source is simply using the Pal. Capture-chaining (five catches of a species now completes the Capture Bonus, down from twelve in early access), clearing dungeons and syndicate camps, and beating tower bosses all funnel combat EXP into whatever is in your active slots. Combine that with catch-up EXP and a fresh party Pal levels startlingly fast.

Levels are only half the job — make the Pal actually strong

A common mistake is grinding a Pal to a high level and wondering why it still hits like wet cardboard. In Palworld 1.0, a Pal's real ceiling comes from five permanent upgrade tracks that all stack on top of its level. Levelling gets a Pal usable; these tracks make it strong.

Upgrade trackWhat it doesCost
Condensing+5% HP/Atk/Def per star, +20% at 4 stars; boosts Partner Skill; raises Work Suitability4 / 8 / 12 / 24 = 48 duplicate Pals
Pal Souls (Statue of Power)+3% per rank × 20 ranks = +60% to HP, Attack, Defense or Work Speed~52 souls per stat
Stat Fruits (Life / Power / Stout)+10 to a stat's potential each, cap 100 — IV 100 ≈ +30%~200 Dog Coins each
TrustAdds flat HP/Atk/Def to base stats before all multipliers; rank 10 maxearned over time / Kinship Peaches
Awakening×1.1 to HP/Atk/Def, one-time and irreversible50 Radiant Gems + 10 World Tree Holy Water

Two facts here overturn old guides. Condensing costs 48 Pals for max rank, not 116 — that 116 figure is the early-access table and is still all over the internet. And IVs are no longer locked at capture: Stat Fruits let you fix a bad roll after the fact (+10 per fruit to a cap of 100), so you never again need to release a Pal for rolling low. Any guide that tells you IVs are permanent is describing the 2024 game.

If you would rather skip the duplicate-breeding and soul-farming entirely and jump straight to a maxed, cap-ready roster, that is exactly what our leveling service is for.

Want to skip the Palworld grind? Get to the Level 80 cap and a battle-ready team without the farm:

A clean level-a-Pal routine

Put it together and the fastest realistic loop looks like this:

  • Set your party: the project Pal + Omascul (team EXP) + three Pals you're also levelling. Equip a Growth Acceleration Bell +2 on the project Pal.
  • Feed a burst: use any Training Crystals you have (+1 level each) and an appropriate Training Manual to skip the slow early band.
  • Play with intent: capture-chain dense low-level spawns (five catches per species), clear a dungeon or camp, then fight a tower boss in level order. Catch-up EXP does the heavy lifting on any under-levelled Pal.
  • At level, pivot to power: condense to 4 stars, run Pal Souls at the Statue of Power, fix IVs with Stat Fruits, build Trust, and Awaken it in the World Tree.

Levelling is fast in 1.0. The long game is the five upgrade tracks — plan the Pal you actually want before you sink souls and fruits into it.

A worked example

Say you want a battle-ready Jetragon for the endgame. Catching it at its Level 70 Sunreach spawn already puts it close to the cap, and catch-up EXP will finish the climb to 80 in a single session of active play with an Omascul in the party. From there the level is a footnote: you condense it to 4 stars (+20% across HP, Attack and Defense), run Pal Souls for up to another +60% on your chosen stat, top off its potential with Stat Fruits, grind Trust to rank 10 for a flat base-stat boost, and finally Awaken it for the ×1.1 multiplier. The difference between a level-80 Jetragon straight out of the wild and a fully-invested one is enormous — and none of it comes from EXP. That is the mental model to carry into every "how do I level this Pal" question: get it to level cheaply, then build it deliberately.

FAQ

Do Pals level up in the Palbox in Palworld? No. Pals in the Palbox gain zero EXP — they are frozen at their current level. Only Pals in your active party level at full speed; base-assigned Pals gain a slow trickle from work. This is the single most common levelling mistake.

What is the fastest way to level a Pal in Palworld? Keep it in your party, run an Omascul for the team +10–20% EXP buff, equip a Growth Acceleration Bell, and burst with Training Crystals (+1 level each) and Training Manuals (up to 100,000 EXP). Then let 1.0's catch-up EXP carry any Pal caught below your level.

How much EXP do Training Manuals give? Fixed amounts: Small 200, Medium 1,000, Large 10,000, Extra Large 100,000. Save XL manuals for high-level Pals and spend the smaller ones on low-level ones for the biggest relative gain.

Is a Pal's level capped at my player level? The community is split and there is no official ruling — some report captured Alphas keep their above-player level, others report over-levelled catches sync down and progress at your pace. Either way, catch-up EXP means a Pal caught below your level closes the gap fast.

Should I level a Pal or just catch a stronger one? In 1.0, often catch a stronger one. Accelerated catch-up EXP makes a high-level catch (even Level 70) usable almost immediately, which is frequently faster than grinding a low-level Pal up from scratch.

Do IVs (potential) still lock at capture? No — not since 1.0. Stat Fruits raise a stat's potential +10 each up to a cap of 100, so you can repair a bad roll after capture. Older guides claiming IVs are permanent are describing early access.
