Applies to: Battlefield 6 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, on Game Update 1.4.3.0 (live 15 September 2026) during Season 4, with the Deep Six Collection Event running to 12 October 2026. The ballistics figures below come from Game Update 1.3.3.0, which is still the governing balance baseline for LMGs.
Quick Answer
- The KTS100 MK8 is the statistically best LMG in Battlefield 6 right now. It sits at 9.5 degrees of recoil variation after 1.3.3.0, against a nine-gun class average of roughly 29.5 degrees, and it shares the highest muzzle velocity in the class at 808 m/s.
- It is not unlocked by Career Rank. It comes from the BULLET STORM 1 Assignment, which is why most lobbies never see one.
- The L110 is the best default pick and the one LMG you already own at Career Rank 1. The M250 is the long-range option, the M123K the close-quarters one.
- EA has never published an official LMG tier list. The ranking below is built from EA's own published per-weapon numbers plus the unlock cost of getting there.
- Attachment priority for every LMG is the same: control recoil first, fix ADS speed second, magazine last. LMGs have the slowest weapon draw in the game and the biggest magazines already.
What Counts as an LMG in Battlefield 6?
EA's loadout and weapon classes page, refreshed for Season 4, describes the class in one paragraph that explains the whole archetype: "The Signature Support Weapon is built for laying down fully-automatic suppressing fire: sustained trigger pulls down range that cause hesitation at a minimum, and lethal damage at a maximum. Combining both the selection of the heavier Squad Automatic Weapons (SAWs) and more agile Light Support Weapons (LSWs), LMGs are the biggest in size compared to all other weapons, and the largest in terms of average magazine capacity."
Two things matter there. The LMG is the Support class Signature Weapon, so Support players get their class Signature Trait benefit applied to it. And the class is really two archetypes: SAWs are the heavy belt-fed guns that want a bipod and a lane, while LSWs are rifle-derived and play almost like a slow assault rifle.
Nine LMGs are listed on EA's Season 4 weapon classes page:
| LMG | Unlock route | EA's own description |
|---|---|---|
| L110 | Default unlocked | All-purpose SAW chambered in 5.56x45mm, well-matched for most engagements |
| DRS-IAR | Career Rank 9 | LSW that "blurs the boundary into a service rifle" |
| M/60 | Career Rank 20 | General purpose MG, slow and steady fire rate |
| M123K | Career Rank 38 | Mobile fire support, dominates in close quarters, high fire rate |
| M250 | Career Rank 46 | Companion to the M277 with "ranged overmatch effectiveness" |
| KTS100 MK8 | Assignment: BULLET STORM 1 | Low recoil, steady RPM, moderate damage offset by accuracy |
| M240L | Assignment: BULLET STORM 2 | Modernised GPMG, effective aggressive and defensive |
| M121 A2 | Season 2 Catch-Up Challenge | Excels at closer ranges, extends with recoil management |
| RPK-74M | Season 3 Catch-Up Challenge | Controllable recoil, variable capacity, serviceable damage |
One caveat, because it trips up comparison videos: the RPKM appears in EA's balance tables and in a 1.4.3.0 grip bug fix, but not on that Season 4 weapon classes list. Treat it as an entry EA has not re-confirmed as a current LMG pick.
Battlefield 6 Best LMG Ranked
EA publishes weapon adjustments as flat lists that mix every class together, so nobody re-cuts them by class. Doing that is where this ranking comes from. After Update 1.3.3.0, EA stated plainly: "We've reduced recoil variation across the arsenal to make weapon behavior more predictable and controllable. Weapons should feel less erratic during sustained fire while retaining their individual recoil characteristics."
Here is what those cuts left the LMG class with. Recoil variation is in degrees, lower is better. Muzzle velocity is in metres per second, higher is better.
| Rank | LMG | Recoil variation | Muzzle velocity | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | KTS100 MK8 | 9.5 | 808 | Class outlier on both axes |
| 2 | RPK-74M | 16.1 | 808 | Best rank-free LSW |
| 3 | DRS-IAR | 29.3 | 680 | Assault-rifle handling, early unlock |
| 4 | M/60 | 29.9 | 680 | Steady, slow, forgiving |
| 5 | L110 | 31.0 | 740 | Best all-rounder you already own |
| 6 | M121 A2 | 31.8 | 560 | Close-range specialist |
| 7 | M240L | 34.5 | 590 | Heavy, high capacity |
| 8 | M250 | 35.9 | 724 | Long-range damage, punishing recoil |
| 9 | M123K | 47.7 | 630 | Highest fire rate, worst control |
The KTS100 MK8 is not close. At 9.5 degrees it is roughly 68 percent below the class average of 29.5 degrees, and it took the smallest velocity cut in the class at 3.81 percent when EA slowed projectiles game-wide. EA's own line on it is that "moderate damage is offset by accurate suppressive fire," which is the honest trade: you lose some point-blank duels and win nearly every sustained one.
Second is the RPK-74M, which shares that 808 m/s velocity and took a 14.8 percent recoil cut. It also got a specific 1.3.3.0 fix: "Angled Grips on the M16A4 and RPK-74M now apply the intended recoil reduction values." If you built one before that patch and shelved it, rebuild it.
The M123K sits last on paper, which surprises people because it feels strong. Its 47.7 degrees is the worst in the class by a wide margin even after a 14.7 percent improvement. The high fire rate EA credits it with is real and it wins inside roughly fifteen metres. Past that, the spread does the enemy's work for them.
Which LMG Should You Actually Use?
- New or under Career Rank 9. The L110. Community consensus is consistent: it "works pretty well because it's more accurate, fires faster, and has a bigger mag." At 740 m/s it has the fastest projectile of the rank-free options.
- Long lanes. The M250. Players report four-hit kills at range, and EA frames it as the M277's ranged companion. The cost is 35.9 degrees of recoil variation, so it wants a mounted position rather than run-and-gun.
- Objectives and buildings. The M123K or M121 A2. A widely shared close-range build pairs the M123K with a canted grip, short barrel and green laser.
- The best gun in the class. The KTS100 MK8, once you clear BULLET STORM 1. Twelve launch weapons sit behind Assignments rather than Career Rank, and the LMG entries are the KTS100 MK8 and M240L.
The Best LMG Attachment Priority
Attachments in Battlefield 6 are not free. Every loadout runs against an Attachment Point budget, so an LMG build is a spending decision, not a checklist. EA has never published a baseline cost table, so ignore any guide that gives you one.
What EA has confirmed is that attachments arrive faster than they used to. From the community update published 28 May 2026: "We've also improved Hardware Mastery progression, with players now unlocking primary weapon attachments roughly 50% faster than before. These updates apply across all primary weapon categories and Sidearms, helping loadouts come together much earlier during progression."
Spend your points in this order.
- Recoil control. Angled grip and handstop. This is the one non-negotiable on every LMG. Community testing is blunt about it: "You pretty much have to run the full angled/handstop for the abysmal draw speed on all LMG's. Canted is just trolling." Note the subtlety there, because that player is describing draw speed, not steadiness.
- Barrel. A light barrel on the L110 is the most recommended single change in the class, described by players as competing "at pretty much any range" once paired with the thermal suppressor.
- Optic. Season 4 added the 1P86 LPVO sight, and 1.4.3.0 reworked reticles. Do not assume glass is free performance: community testing puts the M123K at roughly 0.367 seconds ADS on iron sights and about 0.47 seconds with a 1x. That is player-measured, not an EA figure, but it is a big enough gap to test yourself in the Firing Range, which gives direct damage and handling readouts.
- Ammo. Only with points to spare. 1.3.3.0 increased bullet drag by 40 percent across all weapons and by 100 percent with Match Grade ammo, which hurts at LMG ranges.
- Magazine. Last. EA already describes LMGs as "the largest in terms of average magazine capacity" of any weapon type.
Bipods deserve a warning. Players describe them as needing to be "at least twice as stable as they are now" and as struggling on any surface that is not perfectly flat. Build for standing recoil control and treat a deployed bipod as a bonus.
If attachments are showing as earned but not appearing in the customisation screen, that is a known issue rather than a build mistake, and we covered the workaround in our guide to attachments not unlocking on Update 1.4.3.0.
How to Unlock LMGs Faster
Three separate XP tracks run in Battlefield 6 and mixing them up is the single most common progression mistake.
- Career XP unlocks functional hardware through Career Rank 50. This is what gates the DRS-IAR at 9, the M/60 at 20, the M123K at 38 and the M250 at 46.
- Hardware XP is earned per weapon and unlocks that weapon's attachments, Weapon Packages and camos. It is why a Career Rank 50 player can still have a bare L110.
- Battle Pass XP is earned alongside Career XP at a one to one rate.
Simply holding a weapon earns a small trickle of Hardware XP, and kills and assists earn considerably more. So an LMG levels fastest in high-density objective modes where you are firing constantly.
Season 4's Battle Pass adds a shortcut: the "Bluecrest" LMG Weapon Package is one of the instant unlocks on Battle Pass 5. As EA explains, "typically, a base weapon will have two Weapon Packages for reaching a certain Hardware Level with that weapon, including a gilded Weapon Package at Hardware Level 50 (Mastery)." Getting one instantly skips a long grind on a single gun.
The Deep Six Collection Event, live until 12 October 2026, also hands out premium Weapon Packages alongside the Diver's Knife, so it is the most efficient window of the season to be levelling hardware at all. Stack that with the multiplier rules in our XP boost stacking guide and a single event weekend is worth several ordinary ones. The mechanics of the Hardware track itself are broken down in our weapon unlocks and fastest levelling guide.
Are LMGs Good in Battlefield 6 Right Now?
Honestly, they are the most situational class in the game, and the community says so directly: "Every LMG in this game is decent, but not great. It takes a unique play style to be 'good' with any of them."
The case for them is structural. Meta trackers currently surface the KTS100 MK8, DRS-IAR and RPK-74M alongside the M16A4 and B36A4 as common picks. That is community sentiment, not an official tier list, but it means the top of this ranking holds up in real lobbies. Support also brings the Supply Bag as its Signature Gadget, so an LMG player is a resupply node as well as a suppression node.
The case against is mobility. LMGs have the worst draw speed and ADS times in the game, and Battlefield 6's maps reward repositioning. If you rotate constantly, a DMR build or an assault rifle from our full weapons tier list will out-perform anything on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best LMG in Battlefield 6? The KTS100 MK8, on EA's own published numbers. After Update 1.3.3.0 it sits at 9.5 degrees of recoil variation against a nine-gun class average of about 29.5 degrees, and it shares the class-best 808 m/s muzzle velocity with the RPK-74M. It is unlocked through the BULLET STORM 1 Assignment rather than Career Rank.
How many LMGs are in Battlefield 6? Nine are listed on EA's Season 4 weapon classes page: the L110, DRS-IAR, M/60, M123K, M250, KTS100 MK8, M240L, M121 A2 and RPK-74M. The RPKM appears in EA balance tables but is not on that list.
What is the best LMG for beginners? The L110. It is unlocked by default, it has the fastest projectile of the no-rank-required options at 740 m/s, and its 31.0 degrees of recoil variation is mid-table rather than punishing.
Do LMGs have the best magazine size in Battlefield 6? Yes. EA describes the class as "the largest in terms of average magazine capacity" of all weapon types, which is why extended magazines are the lowest attachment-point priority on an LMG build.
Are bipods worth using on LMGs? Rarely. They only deploy reliably on flat surfaces and players widely report them as under-tuned. Build for standing and prone recoil control instead and treat a successful deployment as a bonus.
Which class uses LMGs in Battlefield 6? Support. The LMG is the Support Signature Weapon, so Support players get their class Signature Trait benefit applied to it. Support also carries the Supply Bag as its Signature Gadget.
Did Update 1.4.3.0 change LMG balance? No. 1.4.3.0, live 15 September 2026, reworked Interdictor balance and fixed a vertical grip hand-position issue on the RPKM and RPK-74M, but the governing LMG ballistics are still the 1.3.3.0 values listed above.
