Applies to: Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, as of EA's "Looking Ahead To Season 5 And Beyond" (October 1, 2026) and Community Update (September 30, 2026). Season 4: Tidal Strike is still the live season on Game Update 1.4.3.5. Everything below arrives with Season 5: Siege of Vegas, which has no announced release date.
Quick Answer
- EA has named exactly five weapons getting balance changes: the KTS100 MK8, SCW-10, SVDM, SG 553R and KV9. EA calls it "addressing the meta in REDSEC" and has published no number for any of them.
- Eleven caliber-and-class buckets take one extra bullet to kill an armored target: past 9m for PDWs, within 31m for the 7.62 and .300 BLK group, past 46m for the 5.56 and 5.45 rifles and LMGs, past 21m for 7.62mm DMRs — which separately lose improved headshot damage against downed enemies.
- All of it is filed under "Battle Royale Specific Changes." The only gunplay items EA lists for both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC are an attachment tuning pass and an animation polish pass.
- Armor is getting faster, not weaker: plating is 20% quicker across all classes, plus another 33% from the Engineer Training Path.
- Nothing has changed on the live build. Update 1.3.3.0 is still the ballistics baseline and 1.4.3.5 shipped zero weapon balance entries.
- Patch notes have a shape, not a date: "once our Update Notes go live the day before the season goes live," under EA's disclaimer that "everything discussed here is subject to change."
Most coverage stopped at the headline of EA's October 1, 2026 article "Looking Ahead To Season 5 And Beyond." It is not a teaser: it carries a caliber-by-caliber bullets-to-kill table, five named weapons, a full rewrite of every class Training Path, and vehicle detail down to the Little Bird's splash damage.
What has EA actually confirmed about Season 5 weapon balance?
Two documents, one day apart, at very different depths. The September 30 Community Update gave the summary: "PDWs, Carbines, Assault Rifles, and LMGs will require an additional bullet to eliminate armored targets at specific ranges, helping further distinguish where each weapon type is most effective." It added that "DMRs are also receiving additional tuning, including changes to the M39 EMR and SVDM, alongside updates to ammunition limits for DMRs and Sniper Rifles."
The October 1 article replaced "specific ranges" with actual meters and cartridges, and added the five-weapon list, the Training Path rebalance and the vehicle detail. Neither contains a number for any individual gun. EA defers all of it: "You can find a full breakdown of these changes in greater detail once our Update Notes go live the day before the season goes live."
Which weapons is EA nerfing in Season 5?
One sentence does the work: "Weapon Balance Changes to increase more satisfying weapon engagement; this includes addressing the meta in REDSEC with forthcoming changes for the KTS100 Mk8, SCW-10, SVDM, SG553R, and KV9."
Note "changes," not "nerfs" — EA has not stated a direction. But "addressing the meta" next to five guns the community already calls overtuned is not neutral language, and three of the five came out of the last balance overhaul better off than their peers. Game Update 1.3.3.0, live June 30, 2026, is still the governing ballistics baseline; it cut muzzle velocity on nearly every primary and reduced recoil variation across the arsenal.
| Weapon | Class and unlock | 1.3.3.0 muzzle velocity | 1.3.3.0 recoil variation |
|---|---|---|---|
| KTS100 MK8 | LMG, Assignment BULLET STORM 1 | 840 to 808 m/s (-3.81%) | 10.9° to 9.5° (-12.8%) |
| SCW-10 | SMG, Assignment CLOSE QUARTERS 1 | 428 to 398 m/s (-7.01%) | 35.0° to 33.5° (-4.3%) |
| SG 553R | Carbine, Assignment DANGER CLOSE 2 | 519 to 483 m/s (-6.94%) | 43.3° to 35.8° (-17.3%) |
| KV9 | SMG, Career Rank 45 | 348 to 362 m/s (+4.02%) | 57.6° to 50.0° (-13.2%) |
| SVDM | DMR, Assignment DEADEYE 1 | 800 to 760 m/s (-5.00%) | Not in the 39-row recoil table; last cut in 1.1.2.0 |
Three hard facts out of that table. The SCW-10's -4.3% is the smallest recoil-variation cut in the entire 1.3.3.0 table — next is the AK-205 at -5.1%, then the M250 at -9.6%. The KV9's +4.02% is the only muzzle-velocity increase among all 50 velocity entries. And the KTS100 MK8's 9.5° is the second-lowest recoil-variation value in the 39-row recoil table, on the joint-mildest velocity cut of any weapon that lost speed. The SVDM and SG 553R were treated normally; the other three were not. EA is walking back guns that gained most from its own last pass.
EA's own pages disagree on spelling: the Season 5 article writes "KTS100 Mk8" and "SG553R", the loadout roster "KTS100 MK8" and "SG 553R". Same guns. Full per-weapon numbers are in our SMG rankings, LMG rankings and carbine rankings.
How do the new bullets-to-kill changes against armor work?
EA published eleven buckets, each defined by cartridge plus weapon class, each with its own range condition, under this framing: "Select weapon categories have received a slight BTK (Bullets to Kill) increase against armor."
| Bucket | Change against armor |
|---|---|
| 10mm PDWs | One more bullet past 9 meters |
| 9mm PDWs | One more bullet past 9 meters |
| .300 BLK Carbines | One more bullet within 31 meters |
| 7.62x39mm PDWs | One more bullet within 31 meters |
| 7.62x39mm Carbines | One more bullet within 31 meters |
| 7.62x39mm Assault Rifles | One more bullet within 31 meters |
| 5.56x45mm Assault Rifles | One additional bullet past 46m |
| 5.56x45mm LMGs | One additional bullet past 46m |
| 5.45x39mm Assault Rifles | One additional bullet past 46m |
| 5.45x39mm LMGs | One additional bullet past 46m |
| 7.62mm DMRs | One additional bullet past 21m, and no longer deal improved headshot damage to downed enemies |
Read the direction of each condition, because it flips halfway down: PDWs lose power past 9 meters, the 7.62 and .300 BLK group inside 31 meters, the 5.56 and 5.45 rifles and LMGs past 46 meters. EA's intent is "helping further distinguish where each weapon type is most effective."
The DMR line is the harshest, stacking two changes at once. If you run the SVDM, you are in the one bucket that also has your gun named individually.
Which guns actually sit in each caliber bucket?
EA publishes a chambering for some weapons and not others, so this map is partial and the mapping is our read of EA's weapon-class descriptions.
- 10mm PDWs resolves to one gun: the SCW-10, EA's only weapon "Chambered in 10mm." It is in the five-weapon list too, so it is the only gun hit twice.
- 9mm PDWs covers the SGX — the Engineer Signature Weapon, unlocked by default — and the CZ3A1.
- .300 BLK Carbines resolves to the SOR-300SC, EA's "modular rifle in a subcompact .300 BLK configuration."
- 5.56x45mm covers the M433 Assault Rifle, the default Assault Signature Weapon, and the L110 LMG, the default Support LMG. Two starter guns, both weaker past 46 meters.
- 7.62x39mm is loose wording. The only weapon EA chambers in that family is the NVO-228E, which EA calls "chambered in 7.62 Soviet" — the same cartridge, older name. Treat that equivalence as ours.
- 7.62mm DMRs covers the M39 EMR at Career Rank 4, chambered by EA in 7.62x51mm. EA publishes no chambering for the SVDM but names it in both documents.
Then the gap. EA lists 5.45x39mm Assault Rifles and LMGs but no 5.45x39mm Carbines — and the only weapon EA explicitly chambers in 5.45x39mm is the AK-205, which EA classifies as a Carbine Rifle. On EA's own chamberings and class labels, the AK-205 falls between the listed buckets. Loose preview wording, or genuinely untouched: EA has not said.
Does this change Battlefield 6 multiplayer, or only REDSEC?
This is the most misreported part, and the answer is in the page structure. EA split the preview into two headed sections. Under "Battlefield 6 and REDSEC Changes" — the cross-mode bucket — the only gunplay entry reads: "Additional Gunplay Changes include an attachment tuning pass to improve gameplay diversity and a polish pass on animations for certain weapons, gadgets, and poses." That is it. No BTK table, no named weapons.
Everything else here — the eleven buckets, the five guns, the armor speed increase, the Training Path rewrite — sits under "Battle Royale Specific Changes," and EA frames the weapon list as "addressing the meta in REDSEC."
So if you only play Conquest and Breakthrough, your confirmed gunplay change is an attachment tuning pass. The BTK increases are armor-specific, and armor plates are a REDSEC mechanic. Balance passes usually travel across modes eventually, so the five may follow — but anyone telling you your multiplayer loadout is confirmed nerfed is reading something EA did not write.
Why does armor feel inconsistent in REDSEC right now?
Because nobody agrees on the numbers. On r/Battlefield6 this week, one explanation ran "Each plate is 40 health. If you died like that then they did 180 damage as fast as you did 140," another insisted armor "effectively gives you 100 extra hp on top of regular health to a total of 200 damage for a down," and a third corrected back to "Incorrect, each plate is 40hp."
The honest answer: EA has never published a base health value or a per-plate value for Battlefield 6 or REDSEC. Every figure above is player-derived, and we are not picking a winner because there is no official source to check them against.
What EA has confirmed is speed, not amount. "Armor plating will also be 20% faster across all classes," and separately "Armor Mechanics and Application Speeds have been significantly accelerated," with the Engineer Training Path adding "Armor replating is 33% faster" at Level 2. Season 5 is not making armor tankier. It is making armor faster to apply while making bullets slightly less efficient against it.
What is changing for classes and Training Paths?
EA rewrote all four Training Paths and removed the Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher alternates. The headline entries:
- Assault — less movement penalty when firing on the move; passive regen triggers 50% faster with 50% better healing; revive sickness recovery cut 50%; High Explosive Launcher explosions generate 5 fused submunitions.
- Engineer — explosive damage resistance up 33%; armor replating 33% faster; Aim-Guided Launcher hits immobilize vehicles for 5 seconds, and the guided function starts unlocked.
- Support — drag downed soldiers 20% faster, revive 2.5 seconds quicker, sprint 10% faster under heavy fire; reviving applies an armor plate.
- Recon — damaging an enemy spots them; a down spots others within 25 meters for 5 seconds; the Handheld Jammer disrupts Redeploy Points.
Every class shares the same Level 4: "Class gadget resupply rate increases by 10% with each improvement. Effect resets upon death." Support's Supply Bag and Smoke Launcher move to the loot pool, replaced by Supply Pouches and Deployable Cover, and Recon's Drone moves there too — though EA named its replacement twice in two days under two names, "Mobile Jammer" on September 30 and "Handheld Jammer" on October 1. Our classes and Training Paths guide covers the live versions these replace.
What is happening to vehicles and anti-air?
This list is cross-mode. Armored vehicles get "adjustments to health regeneration, directional damage, and weak spots." Mobile Anti-Air cannons become more effective, while laser designators now require users "to more consistently track targets in order to maintain lock." The Little Bird's splash damage against infantry drops, secondary turrets gain rate of fire but overheat faster, and missiles get "a balance pass across the board." The practical one: "Air Vehicle Resupply Pad Cooldowns are now vehicle-class specific," so a jet no longer waits on a helicopter's timer.
What is not changing before Season 5 arrives?
Your current loadouts. Game Update 1.4.3.5 went live September 30, 2026 with zero weapon balance entries, so 1.3.3.0 from June 30 still governs every gun. A tier list built on those numbers is accurate today, and anything you unlock now you keep.
When do the real Season 5 patch notes land?
EA gave a relative answer: the Update Notes go live "the day before the season goes live." So the patch notes question is really the release date question, and EA has not published that either.
What is on the record is cadence. Season 2 started February 17, Season 3 on May 12, Season 4 on July 21 — all Tuesdays. Season 4's phase 3 content dropped September 15, and across the last two seasons the gap from a phase 3 drop to the next season start was 28 days and then 21 days. Both bands intersect Tuesday October 6 and Tuesday October 13, 2026. That is an inference from EA's pattern, not an EA statement; our Season 5 release date analysis shows the full working. Players tracking it arrived in the same place, one thread summing it up as "They always release the info exactly 1 week ahead," with others settling on "Wait till Tuesday."
The caveat EA put at the top of the article applies to every change above: "everything discussed here is subject to change. Certain features and fixes that don't meet our goals during Battlefield Labs testing may be adjusted, delayed, or removed based on player feedback."
What should you level before Season 5?
Four of the five named weapons are Assignment unlocks, not Career Rank unlocks — KTS100 MK8 through BULLET STORM 1, SCW-10 through CLOSE QUARTERS 1, SG 553R through DANGER CLOSE 2, SVDM through DEADEYE 1. Only the KV9 is a rank unlock, at Career Rank 45. Assignment weapons do not arrive by playing more; they arrive by completing a specific challenge chain, and the attachments that make them work are ground out per gun.
Season 5 changes the numbers, not your unlocks. Everything you level now carries over.
- Battlefield 6 Weapon Leveling — open a specific gun's attachment tree before the balance pass lands
- Battlefield 6 Career Rank Boost — reach the ranks that gate weapons like the KV9 at 45
- Battlefield 6 Account Leveling — broad XP if you are starting the season behind
- All Battlefield 6 services — the full catalogue
FAQ
Is the Battlefield 6 Season 5 weapon balance official? Announced, not finalized. EA published it on October 1, 2026 under an explicit disclaimer that "everything discussed here is subject to change," and no individual weapon numbers exist yet.
Which weapons are being nerfed in Battlefield 6 Season 5? EA named five: KTS100 MK8, SCW-10, SVDM, SG 553R and KV9. EA used "changes" rather than "nerfs" and has not stated direction or magnitude.
Does the Season 5 BTK change affect multiplayer or only REDSEC? The bullets-to-kill increases sit under "Battle Royale Specific Changes," and armor plates are a REDSEC mechanic. The only gunplay change listed for both modes is an attachment tuning pass plus an animation polish pass.
How much more health does armor give in REDSEC? There is no official answer — EA has never published a base health or per-plate value. Player estimates range from 40 health per plate to 100 extra health total and contradict each other. EA has confirmed only that plating becomes 20% faster.
Is the AK-205 getting nerfed in Season 5? Unclear. EA chambers it in 5.45x39mm and classifies it a Carbine Rifle, but EA's bucket list has 5.45x39mm Assault Rifles and LMGs with no Carbine entry, so on EA's own data the gun falls between buckets.
When do the Battlefield 6 Season 5 patch notes come out? EA says the Update Notes go live "the day before the season goes live." No release date has been published, so there is no confirmed notes date. EA's cadence points at a Tuesday in the first half of October 2026.
Should I still level weapons before Season 5? Yes. Update 1.4.3.5 contains no weapon balance changes, so 1.3.3.0 still governs the live meta, and unlocks and attachment progress carry across the season boundary.
