FC 27 Evolution Slots: How Many Evos Can You Run at Once? (October 2026)

FC 27 Evolution slots per edition — Standard base allocation, Ultimate, Ultimate Plus and EA Play Pro each plus one slot, none purchasable

Three weeks into FC 27 Season 1, the single most-asked Evolutions question on r/EASportsFC and r/fut is not "which Evo is best" — it's "why can I only evolve one player?" One thread posted on 9 October 2026 asked it in six words: can I do more than one evo at a time? The top reply blamed the edition the asker bought. That reply is half right, and the half that's wrong is costing people coins.

Quick answer (TLDR): FC 27 gives every account a small number of standard Evolution slots — one player can occupy one slot at a time — and EA has never published the base number in any official document. What EA has published, verbatim on the FC 27 editions page, is that the Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Editions include an "Additional Football Ultimate Team™ Player Evolution Slot", as does the EA Play Pro Edition. So Ultimate owners run exactly one more player at a time than Standard owners, and nobody can buy a third. Separately, 40 Evolutions are live right now (9 October 2026): 12 of them are the paid Roles++ Evos at 7,500 coins or 150 FC Points each, and EA's rule on repeats is brutal — "Paying for the slot gives you one entry, not every available repeat." Four Evos currently carry finite repeat counts (2–4 runs), and two Evolution windows close on 10 and 11 October at 17:00 UTC — one of them the 3-repeat Backline Conductor.

How Many Evolution Slots Does FC 27 Actually Give You?

Start with what is documented, because this is an area where third-party guides guess and then get copied.

EA's own FC 27 editions and release dates page lists, under the Ultimate Plus Edition's Football Ultimate Team benefits, a line that reads word for word: "Additional Football Ultimate Team™ Player Evolution Slot — Available in EA SPORTS FC™ 27." The Ultimate Edition column repeats it as "Additional Player Evolution Slot (included in Ultimate Edition)". EA's FC 27 game-disclaimers page carries the same perk for the EA Play Pro Edition, phrased as "one (1) additional Player Evolution slot".

What you will not find anywhere on ea.com or help.ea.com is the base number of standard Evolution slots a Standard Edition account starts with. EA documents the bonus and never the baseline. That is why guide sites disagree with each other: one authority site states flatly that FC 27's exact limit "isn't confirmed", and it's right.

Here is the practical shape of it, and it is enough to plan around:

What you ownStandard Evolution slotsCan you buy more?
Standard EditionBase allocation (EA has not published the number)No
Ultimate EditionBase +1 (EA-confirmed perk)No
Ultimate Plus EditionBase +1 — identical to UltimateNo
EA Play Pro Edition (PC, EA app only)Base +1 — identical to UltimateNo

Two things follow immediately. First, the extra slot is a one-time, edition-only benefit: there is no coin price, FC Points price, or Season Pass level that sells you another standard slot, so no amount of spending widens the bottleneck. Second, Ultimate Plus is not better than Ultimate here — both grant exactly one extra slot, a detail worth knowing before anyone upgrades hoping for more Evo throughput.

If your card is being refused by an Evolution rather than blocked by slot capacity, that's a completely different gate — our guide to every FC 27 Evolution requirement that blocks your card covers the eight eligibility checks that fire before a slot is ever consumed.

Why Does "Evolution Slot" Mean Two Different Things in EA's Own Wording?

This is the root of most of the confusion, and almost nobody explains it.

EA uses the phrase "Evolution slot" in two distinct senses across its own documentation:

  • A slot as your capacity — the thing the Ultimate Edition adds one of. This is the limited resource that decides how many players you can have mid-Evolution simultaneously.
  • A slot as the Evolution itself — EA Help's Evolutions article writes "If an Evolution slot requires payment, each repeat requires a separate payment" and "Not all Evolution Slots have both time limits". In those sentences, "slot" means the individual Evolution entry on the Available Evolutions screen, not your account capacity.

Once you see the two meanings, the rules stop contradicting each other. "You can only submit one Player per Evolution" is about the entry. "An additional Player Evolution Slot" is about your capacity. A player who reads sense 2 and assumes sense 1 concludes there is no limit at all — and then wonders why the game refuses their second submission.

What Locks a Player Up the Moment You Submit Them?

A standard Evolution slot is not just a counter — it freezes the card. Every one of these rules is verbatim from EA's Ultimate Team Evolutions help article, which EA updated again on 9 October 2026:

  • Untradeable, immediately: "When you submit a Player Item to a standard Evolution slot, it becomes untradeable while the Evolution is applied." Submitting a tradeable card removes it from the market until you strip every Evolution off it.
  • No SBCs while in progress: "You can't submit Evolution Players in Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) while they're still in progress." Once the Evolution is complete, the player is SBC-eligible again.
  • No discarding: while the Evolution is in progress you can't quick-sell the item either.
  • Chemistry can vanish: "Some Evolutions may remove the Chemistry bonuses from Special Items."
  • Removal is one-way: "Removing an Evolution is final and can't be undone." You can strip the last Evolution or all of them, and tradeability only comes back after all of them are removed — our FC 27 Evolution removal guide walks the full downgrade path.
  • Only the active Evolution progresses: EA's instructions for managing Evos are explicit — go to My Evolutions and "set the Evolution to Active" to make progress toward its Objectives. Matches feed the Evolution you've flagged, not every Evo you've started.

That last point is the one that quietly wastes a Season. If you hold two slots but only one is set Active, the second is burning its Expires In clock while earning nothing.

Which FC 27 Evolutions Can Be Repeated Right Now?

Repeatable Evolutions are new-ish ground this year — FC 27 even ships a tutorial Evo literally named Intro to Repeatable Evolutions. EA's rule: "Some Evolutions can be completed more than once. You can submit the same Player Item to the same Repeatable Evolution again if the Player Item still meets its entry requirements."

A live read of the FC 27 Evolutions index on 9 October 2026 shows 40 Evolutions active, of which these carry a finite repeat count above one:

Three more free Evos that are not repeatable still expire inside the next four days — Trust the Keeper on 10 October, Wing Specialization on 12 October and Regista Realm on 13 October, each at 17:00 UTC (18:00 UK time while BST applies). If a slot is sitting idle, those are the ones with a deadline rather than a month of runway. For which of them is actually worth a slot this week, see our best FC 27 Evolutions for week 3.

There is one conditional trap built into repeatability that EA words carefully: the repeat is only available "if the Player Item still meets its entry requirements". When an Evolution raises OVR and also caps entry at a maximum OVR, the first completion can push your card out of the Evo's own gate — the repeat exists, but your upgraded player is no longer eligible for it. Plan repeats around cards with headroom, not around your best card.

EA also confirms cooldowns: "Some Repeatable Evolutions can also have a cooldown. After completing the Evolution, you'll need to wait for the cooldown to end before starting it again." EA has not published cooldown lengths — they're set per Evolution and shown in-game.

Do You Pay Again Every Time You Repeat a Paid Evolution?

Yes, and this is the single most expensive misunderstanding in FC 27 Evolutions right now. EA Help, verbatim:

"If an Evolution slot requires payment, each repeat requires a separate payment. Paying for the slot gives you one entry, not every available repeat."

Run the numbers on the only paid Evolutions currently live — the 12 Roles++ variants, one per position, at 7,500 coins or 150 FC Points each:

Entries into one Roles++ EvoCoin costFC Points cost
1 player7,500150
3 players22,500450
5 players37,500750
10 players75,0001,500

That works out to a flat 50 coins per FC Point on Roles++, which is the cheapest conversion rate in the FC 27 Evolution Store — cosmetic Evos have run as high as 125 coins per FC Point this season. The standing advice from the full FC 27 Evolution Store cost breakdown holds: pay coins for Roles++, save FC Points for the cosmetic tracks where the rate is worse.

And one hard rule before you spend a single coin on Roles++: EA's Launch Update states that "all Campaign Player Items will launch with all of their position's Roles++ unlocked, making squad-building more flexible across different formations and playstyles." Every Ones to Watch, Destined for Glory and other campaign item already has every Role++ in position. Buying a 7,500-coin Roles++ entry for one of those cards buys you literally nothing.

How Do You Get More Out of the Slots You Have?

Since you cannot buy capacity, the only lever is throughput. Four rules, in order of how much they're worth:

  • Never bank a slot. EA's stated Evolutions direction for FC 27 is that "you can still expect to see impactful Evolutions throughout the year, just at a lower frequency and released at more intentional moments", with the expanded Training Camp Evolutions providing "accessible entry points to boost lower-rated players." A slot held empty waiting for a monster Evo later in the season is pure waste — Season 1 ends 22 October and most current Evos die with it. Our breakdown of what expires when Season 1 ends lists the full cutoff.
  • Fill a slot with the shortest deadline first. Two time limits exist — "Look for Get Within X Days and Expires In X Days in-game" — and not every Evo has both. Start the Evo expiring on 10–13 October before the one running to 29 October.
  • Use Chain Preview before committing, not after. FC 27's Evolution Chain Preview lets you "assess a player, preview them through one Evolution, and see which additional Evolutions may become available afterwards." Previewing a chain costs nothing; discovering mid-season that your upgraded card no longer fits the next Evo costs you the slot.
  • Treat Training Camp Evos as a separate decision. EA is clear they "work differently from standard Evolutions": you submit a player, they're unavailable for a set period that can run "from a few hours to more than 30 days", and you claim at the end. The mechanics, lock times and cancellation penalties are in our FC 27 Training Camp Evolutions guide.

Also worth knowing before you spend a slot chasing Gallery score: Evolution upgrades do nothing for the Gallery. EA, twice over: "If you apply an Evolution, the Evolution upgrades don't increase its Gallery Item Score or add another version of the Player Item to the Gallery", and from the FUT Deep Dive, "Evolution Items are represented by the original base Item before it entered an Evo."

Short on slots, coins or Weekend League time? We do the grinding part so your limited Evolution capacity goes on cards you actually want.

Is the Extra Slot a Reason to Buy Ultimate Edition?

On its own, no — and the honest math matters here. One extra standard slot roughly doubles Evo throughput for a Standard-Edition account, which is a real quality-of-life gain, but the slot is bundled with up to 6,000 FC Points, the Season 1 Premium Pass, up to seven days of early access and an 85+ OVR International ICON. If you're weighing editions, weigh the whole bundle; the slot is a sweetener, not the headline.

What the extra slot is genuinely worth is highest in the first weeks of a season, when short-window Evos stack up faster than one slot can clear them — exactly the situation on 9 October, with four free Evos expiring between 10 and 13 October. Later in the year, when EA releases impactful Evos "at a lower frequency", the second slot idles more often.

FAQ

How many Evolutions can you run at once in FC 27? One player per standard Evolution slot, and EA has never published the base slot count for any edition. The only documented variable is the "Additional Football Ultimate Team™ Player Evolution Slot" included with Ultimate, Ultimate Plus and EA Play Pro Editions — exactly one extra, no more. Only the Evolution you set to Active earns progress from your matches.

Can you buy extra Evolution slots with coins or FC Points? No. Nothing in the Evolution Store, Season Pass or FC Points catalogue sells account-level Evolution capacity. Coins and FC Points only unlock entries into individual paid Evolutions — currently the 12 Roles++ variants at 7,500 coins or 150 FC Points each.

Does a repeatable Evolution cost coins every time? Yes, if the Evolution is paid. EA states: "If an Evolution slot requires payment, each repeat requires a separate payment. Paying for the slot gives you one entry, not every available repeat." Ten entries into a Roles++ Evo is 75,000 coins.

Can you take a player out of an Evolution early? Yes — you can remove an Evolution that is still in progress, but removal "is final and can't be undone", and you only keep the levels you'd already completed. Tradeability returns only once all Evolutions are removed from the item.

Do Training Camp Evolutions use up a standard Evolution slot? EA states only that they "work differently from standard Evolutions" and lock your player out of use for a set time, from a few hours to more than 30 days. It has not published whether they draw on the same slot pool, so check your own My Evolutions screen before committing a card.

Which FC 27 Evolutions expire first? As of 9 October 2026: Trust the Keeper (10 Oct, 17:00 UTC), Backline Conductor (11 Oct, 17:00 UTC), Wing Specialization (12 Oct), Regista Realm (13 Oct), Goal Guardian (15 Oct), Batigol Precision (17 Oct), then a cluster on 22 October when Season 1 ends.

The Bottom Line

FC 27 does not publish a slot number, so stop hunting for one. Plan around the three rules that are documented: one player per Evolution entry, one extra capacity slot if you own Ultimate/Ultimate Plus/EA Play Pro, and only the Active Evolution earns progress. Then treat capacity as the scarce resource it is — fill the shortest deadline first, preview chains before committing, and never pay 7,500 coins for Roles++ on a campaign card that already has them. With four free Evolutions expiring between 10 and 13 October and Season 1 closing on 22 October, an idle slot this week is a reward you simply don't collect.
