Quick Answer
The strongest anti-vehicle loadout in Battlefield 6 right now is Engineer on the Anti Armor Training Path, carrying one launcher matched to the threat, the Repair Tool as the Signature Gadget, an Anti-Vehicle Mine or Acoustic Sensor AV Mine, and the Anti Tank Grenade throwable. You cannot stack two launchers, so the loadout choice is the launcher choice:
- Main Battle Tanks and IFVs: Aim-Guided Launcher, aimed at the side, top or rear where armor is thinner.
- Jets and attack helicopters: Air-Defense Launcher, or the Active Locking Air-Defense Launcher if you can keep the aircraft in your sights through its flares.
- Infantry and cover demolition: Unguided Launcher.
- New players: Auto-Guided Launcher. Lock, fire, duck into cover.
Season 5 changes that picture. EA is adjusting armored vehicle health regeneration, directional damage and weak spots, buffing Mobile and Stationary AA cannons, tuning the M15 AV Mine and PTKM-1R, and raising the skill floor on laser designators. But the Engineer Training Path rebalance everyone is quoting is Battle Royale only. That split is the part most guides are getting wrong, and it is covered in detail below.
What is the best anti-vehicle loadout in Battlefield 6?
Engineer, and it is not close. EA's own Engineer class guide calls it "a close-range combat and explosives specialist" whose "arsenal of launchers can decimate large structures or cause chaos on objectives." Other classes do touch vehicles - EA's class page has Recon "planting C4 to cripple tanks" - but Assault launchers and Recon Demolition Charges chip at armor where Engineer is built to destroy it.
The hard constraint that shapes every Engineer loadout is one sentence on EA's class page: "you are unable to equip two Launcher Gadgets in the same Loadout." You are not building a universal anti-vehicle kit, you are building two or three and swapping at the respawn screen.
| Launcher | Lock-on | Best against | EA's stated trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto-Guided Launcher | Yes, easiest | Any vehicle, new players | "the easiest lock-on launcher to use"; weaker damage profile, but its rockets "evade on-vehicle trackers longer than others" |
| Air-Defense Launcher | Yes | Jets, helicopters | Tracking missile, but "highly-skilled jet pilots can dodge these at the last second" |
| Active Locking Air-Defense Launcher | Yes, re-acquires | Flare-popping aircraft, designated targets | Added in Season 2; keep aiming down sight and the missile locks back on even after flares or a range break |
| Long-Range Launcher | Yes, slowest | Distant armor, parked objectives | "provides a powerful payload that hits fast even at long ranges" |
| Aim-Guided Launcher | No, manual guidance | Tanks you can flank | You steer the rocket; it "can also deal greater damage on the sides, top and rear of vehicles where armor is thinner" |
| Unguided Launcher | No | Infantry, cover, flanking tanks | "the most effective launcher against infantry"; slower rocket velocity, "quick reloading process" |
The Active Locking variant is not simply the better Air-Defense launcher. EA calls it "a harmonious balance between the Aim-Guided and Lock-On Launchers" that "requires slightly more attention," and it has a second use most players never touch: outside air combat it "is able to lock-on to other targets marked by Recon Gadgets such as the Laser Designator." Pair with a Recon running a designator and you have a lock-on ground launcher.
On the second gadget slot, the three AV mines are not interchangeable:
- Anti-Vehicle Mine is the only one that, per EA, "avoids the Support Class' Intercept Systems." It also cannot be placed too close to another team-owned AV mine.
- Acoustic Sensor AV Mine detects by audio and fires a projectile down onto the vehicle roof, which EA notes has "less protection than their undercarriages" - but Intercept Systems can shoot it down.
- Tripwire Sensor AV Mine can be floor-placed like a standard mine or thrown onto a wall to hit vehicles from the side. Also interceptable.
Against a coordinated enemy running Intercept Systems, the plain Anti-Vehicle Mine is the only one guaranteed to connect; against an uncoordinated one, the top-attack mines hit harder. The full gadget map for every class is in our Battlefield 6 classes guide.
Your Training Path matters as much as the launcher. Anti Armor gives a passive "Extra Rockets" ammo increase, Launcher Proficiency at Level 1, then Devastating Impact at Level 2 - verbatim, "Vehicles you damage take longer to repair." That is the single best anti-armor perk in the game, because repair is what actually saves tanks. Combat Engineer, unlocked via the Engineer Class Assignment, is the opposite kit, built for staying inside a vehicle. EA's own advice: keep "at least one loadout with Anti Armor."
How do you kill a tank in Battlefield 6?
Not alone, and not by shooting the turret.
EA has not published a shots-to-kill figure for any vehicle, so every number circulating online is player-derived. The clearest breakdown came from an r/Battlefield thread posted on October 5, 2026, analysing a frustrated tank-death clip: "You hit 2 of those 3 RPGs at 188 damage, meaning you hit the turret rather than the body of the tank for a standard 250 damage hit. You left 136 damage on the table. If you can hit the treads, you can get it for 375 damage and with the crit on the back end, it's worth 500 damage."
Treat those as community telemetry rather than EA figures, but the shape is consistent across threads: turret hits are the worst hits, treads are better, rear hits are best. A second commenter in the same thread put the floor at "4 shots to kill a tank (25%) and that's without a repair."
That parenthetical is the real answer. A tank with an Engineer behind it is not a 4-shot target, because the Repair Tool out-heals a solo launcher. The counterplay is sequencing, not damage:
- Open with the Anti Tank Grenade. EA describes it as parachuting down for "a top-down attack" and explicitly recommends it "as the engagement starter against a ground vehicle before hitting with a follow-up, such as a launcher missile."
- Land the launcher hit on a flank, the rear or the treads while the grenade damage is still applied.
- If you have Devastating Impact, the repair window you just created is longer than the driver expects.
- Kill the repairing Engineer first if you can see one. They are the reason your three rockets did nothing.
Also worth knowing: the Engineer's Signature Trait, Mechanized Infantry, means enemy Engineers "prevent them from being occupied by hostiles in the event of all passengers exiting," and repairing a vehicle's health blocks you from stealing it. An abandoned tank you cannot enter has an Engineer nearby.
How do you counter a Little Bird or Scout Helicopter?
With an Air-Defense launcher plus a second source of pressure, because one launcher on its own is a deterrent rather than a kill.
EA was unusually candid about air balance in the Tidal Strike Community Update of September 2, 2026. On pilot skill: "We're seeing the most experienced pilots continue to improve, with the top 5% of pilots averaging around three more kills per match than they did six months ago." On what is actually killing you: "our data does not currently show the Scout Helicopter as the biggest vehicle threat to players on any map, with IFVs and MBTs accounting for more player kills."
That second line is the practical one. If your team is losing to vehicles, the answer is usually ground armor, not the helicopter everyone is yelling about in chat.
The air counter-kit has already moved in the player's favour on the live build. Game Update 1.4.3.0, published September 14, 2026, raised the AH-6 Little Bird's minigun overheat per bullet by roughly a third, halved its minigun damage against RCB90 Patrol Boats and ATPs, lifted RCB90 health from 800 to 1000, and removed the lock-on directional indicator shown to pilots for the SLM-93A and 9K38 Igla MANPADs. EA's stated intent: "This means pilots will have to break off attacks earlier or wait for the missile trail to find its source, making the MANPAD a more effective deterrent and its user less vulnerable to immediate retaliation."
That change also shows how EA names the same gadget two different ways. Tidal Strike pre-announced it on September 2 as "the directional lock-on indicator for the Lock-Guided AA Missile and IGLA will no longer be shown to pilots"; the 1.4.3.0 changelog shipped it twelve days later under the designations SLM-93A and 9K38 Igla. One change, two naming conventions.
Practical stack against air, in order of reliability:
- Stationary or Mobile AA first. These get better in Season 5.
- Air-Defense Launcher from a position with sky coverage and an escape route.
- A Recon with a Laser Designator or Tracer Dart. EA states a designated or darted target makes the Long-Range Launcher "lock on even faster," and lets the Active Locking Air-Defense Launcher lock onto ground targets at all.
- Volume. EA's own guidance is to "coordinate lock-on efforts with other air defense means."
One caveat: the September 30 Community Update lists "changes to Scout Helicopter rockets and their resupply timing" as a cross-mode change with no numbers attached - the item in this section most likely to move before the season goes live.

Which Season 5 anti-vehicle changes apply to multiplayer, and which are REDSEC only?
This is the question almost every Season 5 roundup is answering incorrectly, and EA's own page structure is the reason. The October 1 article, "Battlefield 6/REDSEC: Looking Ahead To Season 5 And Beyond", has two separate headings: "Battlefield 6 and REDSEC Changes" and "Battle Royale Specific Changes." Items under the second heading do not reach standard multiplayer.
| Change | Scope | EA source |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle health regeneration and damage changes to reward flanking | Both modes | October 1 |
| Anti-Air System changes, including more effective Mobile and Stationary AA cannons | Both modes | September 30 and October 1 |
| Laser designators now require consistent target tracking to hold lock | Both modes | October 1 |
| Little Bird splash damage against infantry decreased | Both modes | October 1 |
| Secondary turret rate of fire up, overheats faster | Both modes | October 1 |
| Main Battle Tank munitions retuned | Both modes | October 1 |
| Missiles rebalanced across the board | Both modes | October 1 |
| Air vehicle resupply pad cooldowns become vehicle-class specific | Both modes | October 1 |
| Armored vehicle directional damage and weak spot changes | Both modes | September 30 |
| M15 AV Mine and PTKM-1R adjustments | Both modes | September 30 |
| Aim-guided missiles updated | Both modes | September 30 |
| Scout Helicopter rockets and their resupply timing changed | Both modes | September 30 |
| High-Velocity Shells visibility quality-of-life pass | Both modes | September 30 |
| Engineer Training Path L1 to L4 rebalance | REDSEC only | October 1 |
| Engineers start with guided function on the Aim-Guided Launcher unlocked | REDSEC only | October 1 |
| Engineer starting gadgets become Repair Tool and M136 AT | REDSEC only | September 30 |
| Bullets-to-kill increases against armor | REDSEC only | October 1 |
| Armor plating speed changes | REDSEC only | September 30 and October 1 |
The Engineer Training Path numbers are the ones being mis-attributed hardest, so for the record, these are REDSEC values: Level 1 increases explosive damage resistance by 33%, Level 2 makes armor replating 33% faster, Level 3 makes Aim-Guided Launcher hits "immobilize vehicles for 5s," and Level 4 - identical across all four classes - increases class gadget resupply rate by 10% per improvement, resetting on death.
Two cross-mode rows cut against our own recommendation above. EA lists "updates to aim-guided missiles" and the across-the-board missile rebalance as applying to both modes, which likely covers the Aim-Guided Launcher we are recommending for tanks - that mapping is our read rather than EA's wording, but the launcher is plainly inside the blast radius of Season 5. No numbers are published for either, so the pick stands on the live build; do not assume it survives the season unchanged.
The Level 3 immobilize is a genuinely new capability attached to the one launcher with no lock-on. If it survives Battlefield Labs testing, the Aim-Guided Launcher becomes the skill-gated king of the BR anti-vehicle meta. EA's standing disclaimer applies: features that "don't meet our goals during Battlefield Labs testing may be adjusted, delayed, or removed."
Our full breakdown of the gunplay side of this patch is in the Season 5 weapon balance guide, and the live build these changes land on top of is documented in our Update 1.4.3.5 patch notes summary.
Did EA deliver the jet changes it promised for Season 5?
Not yet, and nobody seems to have noticed.
In the Tidal Strike Community Update, EA wrote: "We have some targeted changes planned for jets in the next season, and will share more once those changes are finalized." The next season is Season 5. Across both Season 5 previews - the September 30 Community Update and the October 1 "Looking Ahead" article - the word "jet" appears exactly once, as an example inside the resupply-pad bullet: "a jet can resupply immediately after a helicopter without waiting for a shared pad timer."
No jet handling, weapon or countermeasure change is named anywhere in Season 5's announced content. EA defers the weapon-by-weapon detail to the Season 5 update notes, which publish the day before the season goes live, so the changes may still arrive - but as of today the promise is outstanding, and any guide telling you Season 5 reworks jets is inventing it.
Two things EA has published twice, differently
Two anti-vehicle details are stated two different ways across EA's two Season 5 articles, both live on October 5, 2026. One is a conflict in a number; the other is a gap EA has never closed.
Armor plating speed: 20% or 33%? The September 30 Community Update says "Armor plating will also be 20% faster across all classes." The October 1 article gives no class-wide figure at all - only the Engineer Level 2 perk quoted above. These are plausibly two layers rather than two values, a BR-wide baseline plus a class perk on top, and stacking is the likelier reading. But EA has not said so, so neither figure is the final Engineer number yet.
Engineer's starting kit. Both quotes are REDSEC-only, sitting under Battle Royale headings. September 30: "Engineer will deploy with the Repair Tool and M136 AT." October 1: "Engineers now begin matches with guided function on Aim-Guided Launcher already unlocked." Not strictly contradictory - one is which gadgets you spawn with, the other which function is pre-unlocked - but it is the same two-naming-layers problem from the helicopter section above, now applied to a launcher you spawn with. No EA page maps the hardware designations onto the descriptive names, so whether the M136 AT is the Aim-Guided Launcher is unknown. Any guide asserting that mapping is guessing.
Pick no winner on either until the Season 5 update notes land.
FAQ
What is the best launcher in Battlefield 6? There is no single best launcher, because you can only equip one and each has a stated weakness. The Aim-Guided Launcher has the highest ceiling against tanks because it can hit thin side, top and rear armor. The Auto-Guided Launcher is the most reliable. The Air-Defense Launcher is mandatory on any map with aircraft.
Can you carry two launchers as Engineer? No. EA's class page states plainly that "you are unable to equip two Launcher Gadgets in the same Loadout." Build separate loadouts for air and ground and swap at respawn. Player testing consistently reports that you can change class at every respawn with no loss of class progress, though EA does not state this on its class pages.
How many rockets does it take to destroy a tank in Battlefield 6? EA has not published a figure. Player testing shared in an r/Battlefield thread on October 5, 2026 points to roughly four hits with no repairs, with individual hits reported between 188 and 500 damage depending on where they land. Hitting the turret is the weakest outcome; rear and tread hits are the strongest. Any tank with an Engineer repairing it needs far more than four.
Does the Repair Tool damage enemy vehicles? Yes. EA describes it as able to "gnaw away at enemy technology (or infantry)," used "in spurts to prevent overheating." It is a last-resort finisher, not a primary counter.
Will Season 5 nerf tanks or buff them? Both, in different directions. MBT munitions are being retuned "to be more effective against the kinds of targets they're intended to be used against," while armored vehicle health regeneration, directional damage and weak spots change to "better reward infantry for good positioning and flanking maneuvers." Magnitudes land with the patch notes.
Is the Little Bird getting nerfed in Season 5? Its splash damage against infantry is decreasing, per EA's October 1 list. That follows the 1.4.3.0 minigun overheat and anti-boat damage nerfs already on the live build. In the September 2, 2026 Tidal Strike Community Update EA said: "While we aren't seeing data that suggests the Little Bird has become significantly more impactful overall, we know there's still room for improvement."
Does anti-vehicle play give weapon XP? Repairs earn Career and Battle Pass XP, but EA does not list Hardware XP alongside them, and many third-party guides get this wrong. Launcher kills do not level your primary weapon - that still comes from using the gun itself, which is why your gun grind and your anti-vehicle play are separate tracks. The Engineer's Signature Weapon is the SMG, so our best SMG rankings are the right place to pick the gun that rides alongside your launcher.
Bottom line
Until Season 5 goes live the anti-vehicle meta is settled: Engineer, Anti Armor Training Path, one launcher chosen for the threat, Anti Tank Grenade to open, mines on the roads the enemy actually drives, and a friend. The incoming changes all push one way - positioning and hit location matter more, AA gets stronger, missiles get normalised - so players who already aim for treads and rear armor lose nothing when the patch lands.
