It is RNG, however even if you don’t get lucky and get the chestpiece the first time, it is definitely wort it to come back for it and try to roll for the recipe again.

Looting as a group is optimal. PvE chests allow every player to open them individually, giving each teammate a chance to get the blueprint. PvP chests do not—only the first opener gets the contents. Once you acquire the blueprint, head straight to your base and learn it. Dying before learning it—especially to sandworms—means losing both the item and recipe permanently.
