Genshin Neuvillette Team in Version 7.1: Best Comps, the A1 Stack Rule and the Vodyanitsa Swap

Most Neuvillette team lists predate Nod-Krai, Lunar reactions, and the brand-new Hydro support Version 7.1 handed him. They still open with Furina, Kazuha and Zhongli and still call a hypercarry shell his best team. In Version 7.1, "A Rekviem for the Underworld" — live since 23 September 2026, after the 06:00 server-time maintenance the official notice budgets at five hours — none of that tops his list any more.

There is a dated reason to care this week. The in-game 7.1 announcement states plainly: "Opening Characters: Neuvillette, Barbara, Citlali, Kaeya, Wanderer, and Prune" for the Imaginarium Theater season that opened 1 October, with "Required Elemental Types: Hydro, Cryo, and Anemo." He carries a Fantastical Blessing there right now, and the element lock decides which of his teams you may even field.

Current for Version 7.1 as of 5 October 2026; every talent number is read off live in-game values.

The quick answer

  • Neuvillette's whole team-building problem is one passive. His 1st Ascension Passive grants one stack per reaction type, max 3, and three stacks make his Charged Attack deal 160% of its base damage instead of 110%.
  • So a team is good for him when it produces three different qualifying reactions, not a lot of one.
  • Best overall in 7.1: Neuvillette / Ineffa / Lauma / Columbina. Two Lunar reactions, a 25% Hydro RES shred that is not gated behind an all-Hydro party, and no-cooldown off-field Hydro.
  • Best without Furina: Neuvillette / Vodyanitsa / Xilonen / Kazuha. The new 7.1 Hydro 5-star replaces Furina's off-field Hydro, healing and Resonance slot, and adds 30% Hydro RES shred Furina never had.
  • Best free-to-play shell: Neuvillette / Lan Yan / Fischl / Yaoyao — the only all-4-star line-up that reaches the full three stacks, and Lan Yan on Viridescent Venerer adds a 40% Hydro RES shred.
  • Stellar Glimmer supports do nothing for him. Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl are absent from his passive's reaction list, so Odette, Sandrone and Vesna are non-upgrades.
  • Build him HP% / Hydro DMG% / CRIT on 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter. He triggers that set himself.

Why one passive decides every Neuvillette team

His 1st Ascension Passive, Heir to the Ancient Sea's Authority, reads verbatim:

"When a party member triggers a Vaporize, Frozen, Electro-Charged, Lunar-Charged, Bloom, Lunar-Bloom, Hydro Swirl, Hydro Crystallize or a Lunar-Crystallize reaction on opponents, 1 stack of Past Draconic Glories will be granted to Neuvillette for 30s. Max 3 stacks. Past Draconic Glories causes Charged Attack: Equitable Judgment to deal 110%/125%/160% of its original DMG. The stacks of Past Draconic Glories created by each kind of Elemental Reaction exist independently."

Read the last sentence twice. Stacks are per reaction type. Trigger Frozen forty times and he still has one stack; trigger Frozen, Hydro Swirl and Hydro Crystallize once each and he has all three. The jump from one to three is a base damage multiplier, not a damage bonus, so it multiplies on top of every Hydro DMG% and Charged Attack DMG% you stacked.

That is the entire ranking logic. Everything else is shred and buffs.

Two kit facts set the floor. Equitable Judgment deals 14.47% of his Max HP per tick at talent level 10, costs no stamina, and hits one target at most 8 times per use. His 4th Ascension Passive gives 0.6% Hydro DMG Bonus per 1% of current HP above 30% of Max HP, capped at 30% — he needs 80% HP or higher to hold it all, yet his own channel drains 8% Max HP every 0.5 seconds above 50% HP and walks the bonus down as it runs. A healer is not optional for his ceiling; it is part of it.

What is the best Neuvillette team in Version 7.1?

Neuvillette / Ineffa / Lauma / Columbina. The community calls it Lunar Hyperbloom. KQM's current Neuvillette guide is blunt about it: with Lauma, Ineffa and Columbina released, his Lunar Hyperbloom teams "outperform even his hypercarry teams."

It wins on three things at once. Lauma's Skill cuts Dendro and Hydro RES by 25% at talent level 10 — the only large Hydro shred not locked behind an all-Hydro-and-Cryo party. Columbina's off-field Hydro carries no internal cooldown on its continuous damage, and only her Moonsign Benediction converts all three base reactions into Lunar variants. Ineffa adds a shield and Lunar-Charged conversion. Net: Lunar-Charged plus Lunar-Bloom is two independent stacks, a big shred, and a second Hydro body for Resonance.

Own Furina and Xilonen instead? The Lunar-Charged version — Neuvillette / Furina / Xilonen / Ineffa — is the shell GameWith ranks first, updated 4 October 2026. Xilonen's 36% element-matched RES shred and healing cover Furina's drain, protecting that 4th Ascension Passive bonus.

One trap, the most common mistake in Lunar teams: Lunar reaction damage ignores regular Elemental DMG Bonus and common DMG Bonus — not Hydro goblets, not Furina's Fanfare, not Kazuha's Elemental Mastery conversion. Those buff Neuvillette's own Charged Attacks; Lunar damage is a separate stream they cannot touch. Resistance shred is the exception — the Lunar formula does carry a resistance term, so Viridescent Venerer and Lauma still count. We unpack the split in our guide to Lunar reactions.

Is there a good Neuvillette team without Furina?

Yes, and the answer changed on 23 September 2026.

Neuvillette / Vodyanitsa / Xilonen / Kazuha is now the shell to build. Vodyanitsa, the 5-star Hydro on the live "Surging Ballad" Event Wish, has a kit unusually well-aimed at him:

What she doesThe number
Elemental Skill cooldown and duration16s cooldown, 16s duration — effectively permanent uptime
Hydro and Cryo RES reduction30% at talent level 10, for 6s per hit
Healing to the active character593 plus 5.04% of her Max HP every 1.5s at talent level 10
Interruption resistanceGranted to the active character — it protects his channel
4th Ascension PassiveFlat Hydro DMG, rising by 140 per 1,000 Max HP above 40,000, capped at +3,500 — so the cap lands around 65,000 HP

KQM's current Vodyanitsa guide states she is "a good replacement (or even a slight upgrade) to C0 Furina in most of Neuvillette's teams, including his Hypercarry ones."

Be honest about the trade, and fix the number most lists get wrong. Furina's party buff comes from her Elemental Burst, not her 4th Ascension Passive: 300 maximum Fanfare at 0.25% per point at talent level 10, so up to +75% party damage. The widely quoted 28% is the 4th Ascension Passive, which only buffs her own Salon Solitaire summons.

On paper that beats Vodyanitsa outright. What closes the gap at Constellation 0 is how Furina charges Fanfare — by moving party HP up and down, the same flux that drags Neuvillette off the 80% threshold his own passive needs. Vodyanitsa trades the raw number for shred, healing and interruption resistance. Hence KQM's "replacement or slight upgrade": take her when he was getting interrupted or dipping under 80% HP, or when you do not own Furina.

The live Phase 1 banners — Vesna, Vodyanitsa and "Epitome Invocation" — all end 13 October 2026, 17:59 server time, per the in-game notices. That is your deadline for her. What replaces them is not published: as of 5 October 2026 the live in-game feed holds no Phase 2 Event Wish notice and no maintenance preview. Our October banner schedule tracks it as it lands.

Which teams work in the Imaginarium Theater season that opened 1 October?

This is the part that matters this month, because the mode locks your elements.

The 7.1 notice gives the season's rules exactly: "Required Elemental Types: Hydro, Cryo, and Anemo", Opening Characters Neuvillette, Barbara, Citlali, Kaeya, Wanderer and Prune, and Special Guest Stars Ineffa, Yae Miko, Thoma, and Chiori.

Three consequences:

  • Every Lunar Hyperbloom shell is illegal here — Lauma is Dendro.
  • The season's legal premium shell is Neuvillette / Vodyanitsa / Escoffier / Citlali — two healers, two Hydro bodies, and Citlali's 20% Hydro RES cut on a Frozen target.
  • Because Ineffa is an importable Guest Star, a Lunar-Charged line is still available even though Electro is not a required element.

The catch: an all-Hydro-and-Cryo team can only make Frozen — one stack, so 110% Charged Attack damage instead of 160%. KQM concedes it about this exact comp in its Vodyanitsa guide: one of his best teams "despite only allowing one stack of his A1 Passive at C0."

The notice gives no closing time for the season — only that "the second season of 'Imaginarium Theater' will be available on November 1", flipping the requirement to Hydro, Electro and Geo. Full detail in our Imaginarium Theater October breakdown.

Does Escoffier make Neuvillette better?

Conditionally, and the condition is expensive.

Escoffier leaping with her polearm in chef hat and white uniform surrounded by pale blue Cryo blades

Her 4th Ascension Passive is a ladder: with 1, 2, 3 or 4 Hydro or Cryo characters in the party, her Skill or Burst hits cut Hydro and Cryo RES by 5%, 10%, 15% or 55% for 12 seconds. The cliff between the third and fourth member is the whole story — and the talent counts Hydro or Cryo party members, so Escoffier is one of them.

Reaching 55% forces Neuvillette plus Escoffier plus two more Hydro or Cryo units. That bars every Anemo, Geo, Dendro, Electro and Pyro support — Kazuha, Xilonen, Lauma, Columbina, Ineffa — and with them Hydro Swirl, Hydro Crystallize, all three Lunar reactions, Bloom, Electro-Charged and Vaporize. Only Frozen survives.

Run the arithmetic — ours, not a published figure — and the shred does not obviously pay for itself. Three stacks down to one is a 31% cut to his Charged Attack base; 15% to 55% shred against a 10%-resistance target improves the resistance multiplier by roughly 19.5%. The rest must come from Escoffier's own damage and her healing feeding his HP-gated passive. KQM's two guides openly disagree: the older full guide calls mono Freeze worse than hypercarry, while the current quick guide puts Freeze with Escoffier, Furina or Citlali on par with hypercarry, or ahead in single-target at Constellation 0. Trust the quick guide — it is the one that knows Vodyanitsa exists. Both agree that at Constellation 1, dropping her full shred to maximise the A1 passive wins. Her artifact and weapon details are in our Escoffier build guide.

Vodyanitsa is what made that cage liveable: Hydro, heals, 30% shred, interruption resistance — exactly what the four-member requirement was starving for.

Which supports should you not bother with?

  • Odette, Sandrone and Vesna. Stellar Glimmer specialists, and Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl are not on his passive's list. Odette's Constellation 2 shred covers Cryo and Electro, or Cryo and Anemo — never Hydro. See our Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl comparison for what those reactions actually buff.
  • Zibai and Linnea. They enable Lunar-Crystallize, but Hydro Crystallize is already on his list — any Geo body gives the identical stack. KQM spells out the rule the wording hides: base and Lunar reactions are listed separately, yet you cannot bank a stack from both, because the conversion replaces the base reaction.
  • Aino and Jahoda. Their Moonsign passives grant "party Moonsign +1" with no conversion clause, and not every Moonsign unit enables a Lunar reaction: Lunar-Charged needs Ineffa, Flins or Columbina; Lunar-Bloom needs Lauma, Nefer or Columbina; Lunar-Crystallize needs Zibai, Columbina or Linnea.
  • Yelan — half-credit, not a skip. Her Burst's coordinated attack only fires on a Normal Attack, which his rotation never uses. But her 4th Ascension Passive ramps the active character to +50% damage on any attack type, so KQM still lists her: she sits behind Furina and Vodyanitsa, not below them.
  • Sigewinne and Hydro Traveler. He already makes more Sourcewater Droplets than his rotation consumes.
  • Zhongli in a Freeze team. His pillar can Shatter frozen enemies and break the only reaction supplying his stack.

The build-side version of the same error: do not give him Elemental Mastery. His Charged Attack, Skill and Burst all scale on Max HP, and nothing in his kit reads Elemental Mastery or ATK — which is why a Lunar team changes his teammates, not his artifacts.

The build these teams assume

  • 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter. +12% CRIT Rate per stack, max 3, whenever current HP rises or falls — his own drain plus the 16% Max HP heal per absorbed Droplet trigger it with no healer present. That is +36% CRIT Rate he supplies himself.
  • Main stats: HP% Sands, Hydro DMG% Goblet, CRIT Circlet.
  • Best weapon: Tome of the Eternal Flow, Sacrificial Jade second, Prototype Amber as the free pick. KQM rates Ash-Graven Drinking Horn higher below roughly 120% Energy Recharge, but that catalyst was a 2024 event reward and is no longer obtainable — Prototype Amber is the only free answer you can still craft.
  • Energy Recharge: 100% to 135%, falling to 100% on a refined Prototype Amber and 100% to 105% on an unrefined Tome. If a guide says 160%, check what else it is behind: KQM's full English guide still prints the pre-Lunar A1 text and never mentions Lauma, Columbina or Vodyanitsa.
  • Talent priority: Normal Attack first — crown it before pushing Skill or Burst past level 6, because his Charged Attack sits on that talent.

One downside to flag this patch: the Spiral Abyss season starting 16 October 2026 buffs Stellar Glimmer damage by 75% on Floor 12's first half and Cryo by 75% on the second, with Floor 11 giving 60% Anemo and 60% Cryo. None favour a Hydro Charged Attack carry. His month is Theater, not Abyss.

FAQ

What is the single best Neuvillette team right now? Neuvillette / Ineffa / Lauma / Columbina, the Lunar Hyperbloom shell. It is the only line-up stacking two independent Lunar reactions, a 25% Hydro resistance shred that is not gated behind an all-Hydro-and-Cryo party, and no-cooldown off-field Hydro. KQM's current guide says these teams outperform even his hypercarry teams.

Is Furina still required for Neuvillette? No. Version 7.1's Vodyanitsa covers Furina's off-field Hydro, healing and Hydro Resonance slot while adding 30% Hydro resistance shred and interruption resistance, and KQM calls her a replacement or slight upgrade to Constellation 0 Furina. Furina remains the bigger buff where she fits: her Burst converts 300 Fanfare at 0.25% per point at talent level 10, up to +75% party damage. The widely quoted 28% is her 4th Ascension Passive, which only buffs her own summons.

Can I run Neuvillette without 5-star supports? Yes. Neuvillette / Lan Yan / Fischl / Yaoyao hits all three stacks on 4-stars alone — Hydro Swirl, Electro-Charged and Bloom — plus a shield and, with Lan Yan on 4-piece Viridescent Venerer, a 40% Hydro resistance shred.

Do the new Stellar Glimmer characters help him? No. Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl are not in his Ascension 1 reaction list, so Odette, Sandrone and Vesna contribute zero stacks through their signature mechanic, and their resistance shreds never cover Hydro.

Which Neuvillette teams are legal in the Imaginarium Theater season that opened 1 October 2026? It requires Hydro, Cryo and Anemo, so Neuvillette / Vodyanitsa / Escoffier / Citlali is the strongest legal premium shell, and Ineffa as an importable Special Guest Star keeps a Lunar-Charged variant open. Lunar Hyperbloom is illegal — Lauma is Dendro.

Does he need a shielder? Not at Constellation 0 — his channel innately cuts incoming Poise damage by 50%. A healer matters more: his 4th Ascension Passive pays 0.6% Hydro damage per 1% of current HP above 30%, and he needs 80% HP or higher to hold the full 30%.
